The French are within their right to pass laws which they deem necessary for the protection of their society and their ideals. Whether or not the French choose to enforce their law is another question. If the lower house resolution becomes law, I think it would be better to enforce the law rather than not… Otherwise laws become meaningless.

According to everything I've read, FWIW, the ban is being blamed on conservative French President Nicolas Sarkozy's government, even though there were 336 votes for the bill and just one against it at the National Assembly.
