It really is a crime that this natural product is illegal. Alcohol is way worse individually and especially socially. Legalize it.

Rexter   November 20th, 2009 - 3:51 pm

OMG, there’s cocoa in those brownies! A substance that makes one feel good. It’s a drug!

Observer   November 20th, 2009 - 4:04 pm

Some crazy person’s idea of scientific research?

Sounds like a complete scientific study, one mom, one child.

What a crock. Marijuana creates a devastating addiction. Over time there is a diminishing return on the the amount it takes to feel the effects. How this one whacko gets news as credible is mind-boggling. There are a lot of “natural” compounds that we don’t ingest – arsenic for one. Try that “natural” ingredient.

jose   November 20th, 2009 - 6:44 pm

listen up smart-ass, there is no level of toxicity what-so-ever in marijuana. Its not good for you lungs, however. There are millions of toxic ‘natural’ compounds you could have said instead of arsenic and it wouldn’t have mattered.

a devastating addiction? first of all, how does one define a devastating addiction? Probably something along the lines of a heroin or meth abuser? Well then maybe you don’t realize just how many people smoke marijuana. Let me tell you, they are all around you. Normal, non-devastated people.

And as for the diminishing return on the amount it takes to feel the effects, the same can be said for any euphoric feeling associated with a substance or act. Humans get used to fleeting feelings, that’s inescapable.

Obsidian   November 20th, 2009 - 6:58 pm

@ kadams

I just love it when people who, have never tried nor have any clue about how a substance affects the human body first hand, can make such sensational claims. There is absolutely no addiction associated with marijuana use. Yes over time it can have diminishing returns, so you switch your buyer and smoke a different type of bud. Get a clue please and stop bashing something you obviously have no clue about nor any experience with.

Boogy Man   November 20th, 2009 - 7:16 pm

kadams That is your opinion
just like what you set on every one has one

a devastating addiction Jeezzzzzzzz

What abount black lung?   November 20th, 2009 - 8:14 pm

OK lets look at other natural products for healing – how about asbestos it a natural product as well, so is the Castor Bean (Ricin). So lets review the selective guilts of the Progressives.

An occasional joint may calm his demeanor, but he is going to develop black lung and emphysema.

The Progressives want to legalize the Hooch (so they can get high legally), but they want to ban smoking cigarettes and cigars!! Either ban or dont ban.

Dont be selective so it suits your needs.

Stop making it seem as though natural products and being green is always a good thing.

Why do feel good choices make the progressive minds feel intelligent?

You progressives are pathetic

Baking - yea ok   November 20th, 2009 - 8:21 pm

I think they are doing more than baking in that household.

Brian   November 20th, 2009 - 8:57 pm

This child and his mother should be speaking with MPP marijuana policy project where they can educate our politicians about the benefits of Medical Marijuana.

brent   November 20th, 2009 - 9:13 pm

I do not think it should be legal for everyone. I do think it should be used for medical problems alone. Marijuana helps all sorts of illnesses. Everything from Cancer to RLS are helped with marijuana. What medical problems are helped with alcohol use?

jason   November 20th, 2009 - 9:19 pm

Oh course Johnny is behaving he’s wacked out of it…

Jeremy   November 21st, 2009 - 12:09 am

What does “black lung” have to do with this? He is eating it, not smoking it… Thank you for illustrating your own ignorance. You do realize you eat rather than smoke brownies and cookies, right?

Jeremy   November 21st, 2009 - 12:12 am

@”black lung” commenter as well.

Why do you assume everyone supporting cannabis reform is a progressive? I would venture to guess most are libertarians like myself seeing as they frequent this site, if not simply open-minded conservatives. Why should victimless crimes be a crime? If that is progressive than you are simply regressive… Should cigarettes be made illegal as well and alcohol?

kadams   November 21st, 2009 - 1:32 am

Dear jose,
“listen up smart-ass, there is no level of toxicity what-so-ever in marijuana. Its not good for you lungs, however.”

Oh, look. You made an oxymoron. Or you just are one.

The only good reason for marijuan to be legal is so that it will carry the appropriate warning labels and enforceable laws regarding underage use. And it can be taxed to the max in order to pay for the government medical care it’s users will incur after several years of THC.

Legalize it. I don’t care. But don’t post some wacko mother’s stupid actions and claim it as validity.
Use of marijuana is stupid…makes you more stupid…and eventually you don’t feel better at all….just stupid.

kadams   November 21st, 2009 - 1:35 am

Dear Obsidian,

Luckily, it is not necessary to try every stupid thing before one discovers its adverse affects. It is possible to read about the substance or observe the brain damage others who have gone on before. See? Thank you for another demonstration about the brain cell killing effects of marijuan.

Ask me what I think about adult prescriptions in general…

Marijuana laws are laws against liberty. Stop trying to assert control over people who make different life choices, even if those choices are bad ones.

As for minors, and autism, I believe close monitoring with the doctor would be beneficial, but it should be a decision made between parents and their doctors. Like alcohol, considering brain development, marijuana should not be allowed to minors unless with a prescription.

@kmichaels
“Sounds like a complete scientific study, one mom, one child.”

Yes… Fill him with 100mg of totally legal Oxy and he will be swinging from the rafters just fine too…

Odd that doctors are so restricted from studying and prescribing marijuana when they have so many heroin based drugs instead :P

Of course, a lot depends on how much mommy smokes too…
