‘Miss Me Yet?’: Mystery Surrounds Who Paid for George Bush Billboard

NPR: Internet chatter had led to speculation that it might be an urban myth -- nothing more than clever digital trickery spreading via the Web. But our friend Bob Collins at Minnesota Public Radio assures us he's seen it with his own eyes: There is a billboard along I-35 near Wyoming, Minn., with a huge photo of former president George W. Bush and this question: "Miss Me Yet?"

Yes, we do miss you! Obama not only makes you look better and better — he’s making John Edwards look like an honest man with good character.

bo peep   February 9th, 2010 - 12:01 am

We give! We’re begging you to come back and please keep Gitmo open and close the White House!

Gandhi's Fist   February 9th, 2010 - 12:04 am

Bush–you were a pretty crappy, liberal excuse for a republican president–but you are heads and shoulders better than the skidmark presently holding the job.

ellie   February 9th, 2010 - 12:08 am

Hey George!

Heard you got a brother. That’s good because we got another brother in the White House now only this one’s not working out too well.

Campbell says as if she’s bored to death, “All right, very curious, that’s going to be an interesting one.” She might as well say “Blah, blah, blah.”

The MSM doesn’t know a story when it bites them right in the face. Besides, to them, this is located in fly over territory.

Jana   February 9th, 2010 - 12:20 am

Yes we do! Even given his faults, I never doubted that Bush loved his country, and did what he thought was best for it regardless of public opinion.

peter c   February 9th, 2010 - 12:21 am

They may not all admit it…but millions of Americans have been missing Bush…They claim he lied ONCE! When he actually never did..we know this now.

But Obama has lied about EVERYTHING! Our National Security is way down after just one year of the Marxist Obama…With Bush we were 10 times more safe…
Bush’s Illegal Alien policies sucked! And Tarp too….But everything else was great…When he was in we had a Leader and Man and American…Now we have a kid who is weak and h@tes the Constitution….something he even taught at a wacked out liberal University.

Bush knew NO terrorists and Radicals and Marxists and Maoists and Creept perv@rts…like Obama…Bush NEVER sat in a Racist= America h@ting church for 20 years either…Obama did.

And he would never appease our enemies like Obama has…He would never have gone on an appology tour around the world…Obama has.

Do we miss him? YES! But we have Palin now…

saintpeeter   February 9th, 2010 - 12:21 am

George Bush – best president of the 21st century, by far.

Terry   February 9th, 2010 - 12:23 am

No, you globalist scvmbag.

Only President thus far in the 21st century   February 9th, 2010 - 12:29 am

Well, there’s only been 1 President thus far in the 21st century, and that is George W. Bush! I haven’t figured out WHAT is in the White House right now.

Puck30   February 9th, 2010 - 12:44 am

Ah, no George I don’t miss you. But if putting up a billboard of you drives libs crazy. I’m in!

Thor   February 9th, 2010 - 1:00 am

Excellent. As we say: “Touche’”
This is a supremely clever billboard that speaks volumes to all the moronic juvenile-minded voters out there who vote with their ass rather than their brains.

Mom of 2   February 9th, 2010 - 1:07 am

I miss the better sense of economic security that this country had under Bush. Today, I know far too many people who are either seriously underemployed or afraid that they’ll never be able to retire. As a parent, I’m especially alarmed by the quadrupled debt that we’re leaving future generations.

Shawn   February 9th, 2010 - 1:11 am

would be perfect for a friend of mine who voted for Zero. last time I asked him how he liked Obama, he just shook his head, “Oh, man” hehe.

john   February 9th, 2010 - 1:16 am

You’re a good man George.

obama will retire, or starve to death like the rest of us before his four years are up…

I suppose next election we’ll have to elect a turd for president to keep our diversity card in check…
obama is not very bright, at least not up to this point. He has made some real silly errors that reveal little or no character. For an American anyway. For an African, Who knows. I can’t say what an African perceives as character. I wish these foreigners would stop trying to tell us about character…

Seems like the republicans are already bent on shoving palin down our throats…

Why

Meremortal   February 9th, 2010 - 1:19 am

Obama fails to connect with most Americans. Born here or not, he is foreign to us and we are foreign to him. His economic policies and pronouncements are in conflict with each other, creating paralysis in investment circles at every level. The actions required to create private sector jobs are anathema to him, so he creates govt jobs and talks a lot about nothing. The economy will not recover until govt gets out of the way, but Obama keeps digging that hole deeper. The coming adjustment is going to be much more painful than necessary.

briany   February 9th, 2010 - 1:31 am

Awesome!!! I LOVE IT!!! My oh my how a little contrast goes a long way…After Obamao, everyone will be forced to re-evaluate what they thought of Bush…

Webster   February 9th, 2010 - 1:41 am

I would vote for him in a heartbeat over the fool in the white house now, however, I truly will not miss the fiscal irresponsibility that occurred under his watch. His deficits do not reflect war costs so his budget deficits were pretty severe. There were some half hearted attempts to address the subprime loan debacle but that never materialized in to a real effort to educate the country on the dangers of fiscal irresponsibility. I really thought in term 2 he just voted for every spending project under the sun just to get his war funding. With that said the moron in charge now has doubled down on stupid and I hope the country will wake up enough en masse to realize the folly of their hopey/changey snake oil salesman. Or salesmen as the real case may be.

FastFacts   February 9th, 2010 - 2:50 am

I’ll tell you what, I miss Bush. Probably because we knew what he was doing and was more in tune with the people for the first 6 years of his Presidency than Obama has been in his first year. At the same time he has two ‘big government’ years and we don’t want that back.

Sarah   February 9th, 2010 - 6:10 am

Bush, We have obama now utilizing and renewing every policy that you conjured up during administration. Why should we miss you afterall, Obama is proceeding with your same agendas using the SAME policies. We are still stuck with you, and the only thing that has changed is there are different tenants living in the White House. GWB, do you remember the policy that you invoked that the U.S. Government may assassinate it’s own citizens without trial as has recently been confirmed by the National Security director Dennis Blair? Well, Obama likes that one too and has renewed the policy along with use of warrantless wiretaps and the unconstitutional UN-Patriot Act, etc… No, how can we miss you when Obama continues your business as usual against American citizens.

Drive by it often, it makes me smile. A few weeks ago a few berserkers knocked out the electricity to this board and a few others. This is why Minnesota Public Radio wants to know who put it up – so the berserkers can do like Acorn and harass them personally. That’s what I pay my taxes for, Garrison Kiellor to sneer at me and to organize harassment on private citizens.

Wow… some of these comments blow my mind. I absolutely HATE the president we have in office now… but Bush was the president that paved the way for him. Just because you didn’t “WISE UP” in the first six years of what Bush was doing…. does NOT make him a great president. You idiots think this stuff happened in 1 year?? This is not American Idol with a new season every 4 years. Are you people all insane? I am about as conservative as the next person but it does not make me feel good to be in an echo chamber. You guys do realize that the economy collapsed under Bush, Bush began the bailouts, Bush was for comprehensive immigration reform that included amnesty, Bush could not stop 9/11, could not win the war in Afgahnistan, finally conceded to setting a time table for withdrawl in Iraq, and even with the surge never found the weapons of mass destruction, fumbled on Katrina, and couldn’t even READ a teleprompter. He was cool and all, and I wouldn’t mind having a beer with him but seriously, he started this mess we are in. That is how BO got in there. If he wasn’t such a major screw up maybe we could have elected a President that actually had some sense. You guys need to know that acting as if he wasn’t a problem won’t help our party or our country.

RobbieK   February 9th, 2010 - 12:27 pm

Under President Bush, we had 4-1/2 straight years of record economic growth and the lowest unemployment numbers in history. He killed lots of terrorists, which cost alot of money, so being fiscally irresponsible isn’t really an argument when you have to keep the country safe. The only problem I had with President Bush was that he didn’t seal the southern border as demanded by the citizens.

Merlin8   February 9th, 2010 - 12:44 pm

Correct, RobbieK, as far as you go.

Let’s point out that the primer that lit the charge for the current economic meltdown was the egregiously fraudulent practices of FreddieMac/FannieMae, as driven by Congress, and mostly by Democrats in Congress. The FACTS show that Bush actually TRIED to do something about it, only to get bitch-slapped by Bawney Fwank.

Yeah, he didn’t seal the border, and yeah, he signed McCain/Feingold, and yeah, he never vetoed a single boondoggle bill that the Dems in Congress sent up, but given the nightmare that we are living now, I’d take him back in a heartbeat. Maybe he would be better now, knowing that the American public DOES NOT WANT the “liberal” alternative that McCain and other RINOs kept urging on him. That they’ll STAND UP AND VOTE ENTHUSIASTICALLY when given a decent Conservative alternative. God, if the Reps had only given us a clear Conservative instead of Weasel John McVain, none of this would be happening now.

Steve225   February 9th, 2010 - 12:52 pm

George W. Bush had a lot of faults, and did a lot to upset conservatives. Nevertheless, he was a gracious man who did everything he could to do what he thought best for the country. He took a lot of abuse from all sides. Compare that to Obama, who is simply anti-American. This billboard is more a slam at Obama than a tribute to Bush. Heck yes, it’s Funny! I hope we get more people putting billboards up. I’ll contribute!

NOQTR4TR8RS   February 9th, 2010 - 1:11 pm

@RobbieK:

Our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will be paying for the “prosperity” you describe. Also, it has been over thirteen years since OBL declared war on the US, specifically because of our military presence in their part of the world. Since then, we have spent our posterity’s inheritance and stolen their chance at the American Dream. We have destroyed thousands of our best and brightests’ lives; willingly surrendered our liberties in the name of “safety and security”; bloated our bumbling and ineffective bureaucracies to the point of absurdity; and brought our economy to the brink of destruction.

And to this very day, you can be blown out of the sky on Christmas Day, by a determined martyr with a bomb in his tightey whiteys. And there are now more determined martyrs in the world than when we began. The source of terrorism against the US is our policiy in the Middle East, and that policy has not changed under the new administration. In fact, we are upping the ante.

Lawley   February 9th, 2010 - 1:13 pm

RobbieK, Well put, nice & succinct.

I often wonder why people don’t simply exercise common sense before deciding to crucify Bush. If faced with two choices:

A) getting blown up to bits by terrorists, or
B) spending lots of $$$ to PREVENT getting blown up to bits

Is that something one really has to stop and think about? By picking choice A, spending, unemployment, worrying about how other countries view us (since we’re not bowing or sucking up to them), political correctness, etc. – ALL THAT STUFF becomes completely irrelevant.

But I suppose the previously mentioned requires too many brain cells to register or compute. Sometimes just drinking the kool-aid will suffice. Plus, it takes minimum effort.

Steve Sanders   February 9th, 2010 - 1:22 pm

Didn’t like what Bush was doing enough to want him back. I’m ready for real change, starting at the ballot box. Adious Progressive D’s and R’s. The tea party is focusing American patriots desire to turn towards this country’s founders dire warning of Big Government.
