Minnesota Rules for Franken in Senate Fight Giving Dems Filibuster-Proof Majority

AP: The Minnesota Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered that Democrat Al Franken be certified as the winner of the state's long-running Senate race. The high court rejected a legal challenge from Republican Norm Coleman, whose options for regaining the Senate seat are dwindling. Justices said Franken is entitled to the election certificate he needs to assume office. With Franken and the usual backing of two independents, Democrats will have a big enough majority to overcome Republican filibusters.

Oh, oh!   June 30th, 2009 - 3:21 pm

Well, there goes the filibuster! The gate is open!

Redford   June 30th, 2009 - 3:30 pm

Ya know, Minnesota would probably merge with Illinois
if Wisconsin would only get out of the way.

Discusted   June 30th, 2009 - 3:35 pm

Big deal…Just another liberal clown.

G.L. Hugins   June 30th, 2009 - 3:43 pm

Hope does NOT spring eternal. When a poor “comedian” can become a congressman, the situation can only worsen for Americans.

Whatwhatwhat   June 30th, 2009 - 3:49 pm

You’re probably right Hugins. Next thing you know we’ll have some stupid B actor as President.

Look on the bright side Rethugs, you can always meet in a broom closet. It won’t change anything but at least you won’t be as humiliated publicly.

Larse   June 30th, 2009 - 3:56 pm

Don’t forget the last guy Norm Colman lost to:

http://sloblogs.thetribunenews.com/sidetracked/files/2009/05/jesse-ventura1.jpg

But maybe Norm should just waste even more money and further embarrass himself and the GOP and take it to the supreme court :D Or, this will free up Norm for that big 2010 presidential run with Barbie :D

Congratulations to Senator Franken!!!!!

Franken is a loon   June 30th, 2009 - 4:17 pm

Larse sounds like one of those geniuses who get all of their brilliant political insight from the Daily Show and Bill Maher.

Ken   June 30th, 2009 - 4:19 pm

Just like Iran, the more you count, the more the porno guy gets. Same with Almond-dida- job. Amazing.

grik   June 30th, 2009 - 4:28 pm

Coleman is a crook and an obstructionist. Finally we can get our Senator seated!

And if there was a choice it wouldn’t be Illinois Minnesota would merge with it would be Canada.

But Wait..   June 30th, 2009 - 4:29 pm

“Wait a second, I just found boxes of ballots in my trunk and they are all for Norm.”
Sounds pretty damn stupid to me too but that is what we’re told to accept by the democrats for a washed up… well, he never was really a comedian. How can we say anything about Iran when we let the same crap happen here.

MSK440   June 30th, 2009 - 4:30 pm

Rethug? Reagan set us on a course that gave us real economic growth for twenty years.
So far Obama and the Dems have created nothing more than
crushing debt loads and bloated government that will be a huge
drag on the economy for years to come. That’s hardly change we can believe in.

But Wait..   June 30th, 2009 - 4:37 pm

@MSK440 – very true. I was just trying to count the number of NEW government agencies that have been created in just the last couple of weeks. Govt control or heavy involvement in banking, auto, energy, housing, health, just to name a few is very worrying. These are all arguably key components out our livelihood; do we really want the government so deeply involved in all aspects of our life?

jy   June 30th, 2009 - 4:45 pm

I wonder if he will be appointed comedy czar?
Oh, that is right he isn’t even funny. He is a crude, disgusting pig!
The people in Minnesota have popsicle brains. Who would elect this nut to represent them?

mkcultra   June 30th, 2009 - 5:08 pm

love it or leave it, rtards.

your policies and party have failed, america has spoken and no one cares what you think any more.

where do you go from here?

Dr. Mary Pat Jordan   June 30th, 2009 - 5:17 pm

Politics is no place for a comedian, excluding the current administration that is.

Far Right Wing Wacko   June 30th, 2009 - 5:17 pm

What’s this??? Another conservative letdown in what seems to be a whole train of comedies, blunders, and disappointments lately??

Oh no! Say it ain’t so! There you go again, wink, wink!

It’s certainly is beginning to look like Armageddon for you losers, huh?

duncan   June 30th, 2009 - 5:29 pm

He will be as boring as his radio show was

But Wait..   June 30th, 2009 - 5:38 pm

@mkcultra – so…. by your reasoning then the govt should control MORE of our society and economy? You are a moron.

Sour Grapes   June 30th, 2009 - 5:38 pm

Whatwhatwhat LMAO

If you lose to a comedian and a wrestler it might be time to just quit politics.

Let’s see you Rethugs do some fancy pagent walkin.

But Wait..   June 30th, 2009 - 5:45 pm

@SG – so you’re cool with giving that much money and power to people who don’t listen and cant read?
You are a societal cow – ignorant enough to buy the horse hockey being fed to you and too dumb to care when someone tells you.

Lu King   June 30th, 2009 - 5:51 pm

The dead and the idiots have spoken. The Clown Franken was elected, supposedly.

Good riddance to HOMOBIGOT Coleman….6 months late to be a graceful loser, he’s just a LOSER.

Time for the Republicans to convert Webb and maybe another one from the communist party.

Uhh . . .   June 30th, 2009 - 6:42 pm

Was wondering when ole skid mark would rear is ugly head. . . . boy in boy. . . . Now that is some funny stuff right there.

Eileen for Freedom/Liberty   June 30th, 2009 - 6:47 pm

America…I think Minnesotans have gone mad!

They just voted like they have lost their minds with this matter!

They have put into office the biggest “joke” of a politician. A foul, filthy man in any circle, and now he will join the other socialist/communistic Democratzi in the biggest comedy act of his life…the Senate!

Matt   June 30th, 2009 - 7:02 pm

I like it. I hope the Dems pass every screwball idea they can hatch. I hope they tax us to the point every corporation leaves. I hope they tax and tax and tax until we sink into a 3rd world nation. We need a massive depression to eliminate this Democratic entitlement mentality that has skewed our nation into a big pile of weak, irresponsible, lazy, stupid wussies.

A few months in a bread line, coupled with 25% unemployment, starving children, ZERO medical or dental care, and complete financial collapse is what is heading for Amerika with the marxist administration. I can only hope. It is the only way to break the brain cramp known as liberalism.

LK   June 30th, 2009 - 7:15 pm

JUST WHAT WE NEED — ANOTHER RUBBER STAMP FOR THE MARXIST/COMMUNIST PRESIDENT!

IT’S NOW OFFICIAL – THE FREEDOMS WE’VE ENJOYED ARE NOW A THING OF THE PAST! GET READY FOR OBAMA AND GE TO CRAM EVERY SCAM KNOWN TO MAN DOWN YOUR THROAT!
JUST REMEMBER GE’S CFLs CONTAIN MERCURY SO HANDLE WITH CARE! THINK THEY’D GET AWAY WITH IT IF IT WAS ASBESTOS?

Craig Allen   June 30th, 2009 - 7:27 pm

vile filth is what they want, vile filth is what they get.

The inmates now run the asylum.

As God said they would. Your time is very short now, Satan.

2Timothy 3:13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

Far Right Wing Wacko   June 30th, 2009 - 7:33 pm

@Matt

What you fail to mention is the fact that all the doom you hope for was well on it’s way due to the ignorance and hypocrisy the far right has directed this country into over the past 40 yrs!

The people of the US have spoken loudly and will continue to plummet the grand obstructionist party into submission. Too many young people that are far smarter than the old rich white people party. Kind of like the uprising in Iran, huh? It’s the young folks that want to overturn the old conservative neo muslims over there.

Time to move on into the 21st century and bury the GOP for good. I say, “kick em hard while they’re down” No mercy what so ever!

Hickok   June 30th, 2009 - 7:37 pm

Is it just me… or are the flaccid attempts of the breitfart tr0lls to try & justify the unjustifiable becoming more & more entertaining?

Don’t you just LOVE watching all of their dreams go up in smoke?

I’m downright GIDDY, I tell ya…

They dreamed that they would have a “permanent republican majority”.

They dreamed that “Watergate” would go away…

They dreamed that “Iran / Contra” would go away….

They dreamed that “Barack Obama” would go away…

They dreamed that “Torturegate” would go away….

They dreamed that “Al Franken” would go away…

The ONLY thing that is “going away” are the people responsible for this ILLEGAL & IMMORAL policy…

The ONLY thing that is “going away” is the PUTRID worldview of the neoconservatives.. into the cesspool of history where they.. & EVERYTHING they believe in & hold dear will REMAIN for all eternity.

This is the BEST time I’ve had since Nixon’s resignation.

H2K   June 30th, 2009 - 7:57 pm

Well, Hikcock, it took illegals, dead people, students crossing over from neighboring states, multi-voters, and boxes and boxes of ballots uncounted to pull this one out of your a**. Congratulations.
And what do you think the infantile Franken is going to do for the young people who are more hip to fresh governing policies as compared to white people? Vote for programs that they’ll pay with their inflated taxes for the rest of their lives? Put barriers of regulation and high taxation so that they can’t fulfill their dreams of opening and running a business profitably?
Confiscating someone’s property – the only policy of the democrats – is the height of immorality.
But you and the other liberals need a big “daddy” – a big government to help you out.

It Seems the people in Washington and the Kool-Aid Drinkers that worship them want a One World Government. Obama is siding with Hugo Chavez, Ortega, and the Cuban Castro Brothers to Instill a Marxist Dictator into a Democratic Honduras. He Needs both North and South America to be Socialist Continents to insert Ameros as the new Currency to match Euros as the One World Bank Takes over running the world. George Soros (Obama’s Puppet Master), Financed Obama’s Campain. Remember, He owns the Media (ABC, NBC, CBS) and is on the board of the Federal Reserve. The Denver Mint has already printed the Ameros and they are on standby waiting for the $Dollar to finally die. I Suspect it will die horribly in 2010 before the election. Instilling The Honduras Prez as Dictator For Life will be a Dream come true for Obama. If it works, he can do the same here. Congress is Ramming Bills through without even Reading them. (Against the Will of the People, I Might Add). We may not even have Elections in 2010 or 2012. Pretty sure something will occur which will cause a Lockdown in the country so the Elections will not happen. The Cap and Trade Bill will be approved, next his Health Care Bill will be approved, Then his Immigration Bill (All Foreigners are now Citizens Instantly) will be approved. Then a Gun Bill will be passed to either Rid Americans of their guns or make Ammo Unvailable). The Economy and the Dollar will Collapse, then the World Bank will come in and save us. The US Military will be put under UN Control. We will be in Bread Lines, and we will all be living like Amish People. A Happy One World Government with Obama Controling the North American Sector. Joy Joy Joy. “Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual – uninvolved, uninformed…” Michelle Obama

Some of the leftist posters here seem to think there will never again be a Republican in office. That is probably because they are still in college being brainwashed by their marxist professors.
In 4 to 8 years people will be so disgusted with the current crop of liberal loons they will gladly vote them out and put the Republicans back in power. That is because there are no serious independents to replace them with.

That is the way it goes. People believe the pie-in-the-sky hype from one party and when they find out they were duped they put the other party in power for another dose of pie-in-the-sky hype. The only winners are the career scumbag politicos we call senators and reps.

So don’t hold your breath lefty, you will live under Republicans again. Maybe 4 years from now, definitely 8 years from now when people can no longer pay the utility bills or afford gasoline or get treated at the gov’t clinic in under 6 months.

confused no longer   June 30th, 2009 - 10:41 pm

This will be interesting. I think what our country really needs are senators that represent the people of their state not cabals driven by some off the wall agenda. Hey maybe some Democrats can be American first and Democrats second. 3-45 IS NOT A MANDATE Do the common sense thing, the right thing, all Americans will back you.

Tony   June 30th, 2009 - 10:45 pm

Mr. Franken is certified all right — maybe certifiable like looney tunes. I cannot believe that a man of his ilk could be a U.S.Senator– If it weren’t so frightening it might be funny. I am sure he will be making some major gaffes soon. He was unsuccessful at his last gig ” Air America” , so yeah, why not run for U.S Senate and low and behold the state that put in Humphrey and Walter Mondale has a brand new leftist– a crazy one. Really, I can hardly stand it -he’s already making excuses for his lack of knowledge — ” it’s going to be pretty tough to come in mid-season–” well suck it up buddy– you wanted to be Senator , so start cracking the books ( or should I say cooking the books) and find out what the office of Senate is about, your duties, your obligations , your perks etc. Just like Obama, this job is really tough– like what did you think the Office of the President was going to be like—- Community Organizing???? These people are either extremely arrogant and full of themselves — do you ever notice how many times they use the word I when they speak. That ought to be a tip off– they are public servants!!! They are supposed to representing you and me. Please God send us some real leaders– for 2010 & 2012!! People who love their country and the U.S. Constitution– not those who want to reshape our country into some third world leftist marxist state! Let’ s hope we can hang on long enough and not have to rename streets and towns for Ayers, Dorhn, Chavez, etc. Better stock up on your essentials — times are going to be rough, I am afraid. If you never have believed in God– maybe pay a visit to the church of your choice and find out how to pray– We are going to need it. By the way, has Obama found a church yet in D.C.?? Wow, that must be really a tough assignment– can’t beat that hate mongering Jerimiah Wright type — What has happened to our country??????

I went to high school with Stewart Smalley (Al Frankin) and let me tell you, this guy is a total assswipe. No, I’m serious, this man is an assswipe. He was not the class clown nor was he funny in the least degree. He was under the bleachers JackingOff when a bunch of football players caught him. They bent him over and Jim LaBell kicked him so hard you could hear his nutts pop. A couple of us went over to Smalley and tried to help him up but he just laid on the ground moaning like a little assswipe. We figured we really couldn’t help the dumbass so we all just stood there and pea’d on his stupid face. The whole school saw it and Smalley screamed out that he would be a senator one day, you just wait… he would be one no matter what it took even if he had to steal it. And there you go. He’s now the senator and he’s never even wiped the whiz off his face.

Michelle Obama   July 1st, 2009 - 12:41 am

I for one am very pleased that Smalley is in the senate, I mean can you think of a more deserving Kunt face than Stewart?

Larse   July 1st, 2009 - 1:05 am

You know GOPers… Its hard too swim in the sewers of reality…

You brought this mess right to yourselves… You did it to yourselves when we gave your the chance to lead.. You failed your, and my, country…

It seems God wishes you to suffer just a little bit more too while still on Earth…

Hahahahaahhahahaaha!!!

Don’t fail…
