As that unfair small business owner (since retired), The reason your employer is only giving you 20 hours may just be that he/she went into business to provide for his/her family. The fact is small business owners start as solepropritors, as the business grows by their efforts and hard work and personal investment, they hire other people to join in the enterprise (small business provides most jobs). When in economy goes south, most of us tighten our belts, as a former small businessman I would cut everything possible befor reducing the hours of my employees. The reason was two-fold, I invested much in training that employee, I invested personally, as most of these employees were people from my community, I got to know them and their families. As to minimum wage….each time it goes up, there will be less entry level jobs. Teenagers on summerbreak used to come to work for me, I could afford to hire them, in many cases, until they learned function in the business culture, I was providing baby sitting serve.
Currently minimum wage is $7.35 per hour, add to that the matching funds I had to pay for social security, unemployment fund taxes, and workman compensation fees, that grew to $15.00 per hour. My sweat equity in the business, not to mention the un-godly hours spent to make my business run, support local community events, ie: little league baseball, the local highschool band, every charity event in the community….my original purpose for starting a business became clouded, I did it to provide for my family. So you see Anexio, my dear uninformed, brainwashed child of public education…you now have the other side of the story. My suggestion to you, get off your lazy posterior, start your own business, see how that works out for you.

1) a wage you can live on
2) health insurance

6)…..what you think is fair
Make yourself indispensable to your employer. If you did, you’d probably earn more money and more hours per week. If your employer could replace you with someone else, then there is no incentive for your employer to pay you more, give you a bonus, 401K, etc, etc.
Make yourself so that your employer enjoys working with you. Don’t run out the door everyday 5 minutes till quitting time. Put in an hour or two extra every once in a while.
When you KNOW that you have become indispensable to your employer, one of three things could happen:
1) your employer will give you a raise, bonus, etc
2) you have the leverage to ask for more money and benefits
3) you will have the confidence to leave and go elsewhere.
You can’t assume that your employer is rich. Perhaps he/she is and the more profitable you make him/her, the more they will (hopefully) share.
You may have to work “outside of your angry box”…play the game, learn the business and perhaps you could be a competitor one day. If your employer is getting rich from this business, then they are open to competition….and you could be their worst nightmare! Or, someone else in this business could be a competitor and hire you at an increase.
If you become a competitor and own your own business, I guarantee you will have a completely different attitude.
A free market gives you the tools you need to go after what you think you deserve.
I personally hope you get rich one day.

While it is unfortunate you have health concerns and issues it must be said that it is not a right to have any single business owner small or large pay for the things to which you believe you are entitled. You may “believe” these are entitlements and rights but they are not. You don’t know how much equity, time and hard work your employer put in to making the business a place where he/she could hire employees. To say they are greedy is probably not the case. To imply all small business owners are greedy is crazy. I know many people who have made a decision in spite of physical conditions to make their lives better. They did not do it on the coat tails of another. They may have had some encouragement from others but they worked hard even with extreme physical conditions. Perhaps you need to seek a relationship with an encouraging business man or woman who will teach you and mentor you. On the other hand something tells me you have an “unteachable spirit”. I hope I am mistaken.

Despite the hype of the previous few elections, this November is, in my opinion, the most pivotal election of my lifetime. It is simply a “make” or “break” election for our Republic. If Constitutionalists fail to take back the reigns of our government at the ballot box and make serious and swift course corrections this fall, our Republic will fail. Socialism is utterly incompatible with our Constitution and our founding principles. Indeed, the two are designed to eliminate one another. We are seeing that inherent conflict now, as clutches of the collectivists squeeze ever tighter around the throat of the Constitution; and as freedom-loving Americans – now awakened and alerted – struggle for the survival of their most basic liberties.
Our economic course is simply unsustainable. We stand at the edge of an economic abyss. And, our house is too deeply divided along ethnic, regional, religious and ideological lines to withstand the storm that is looming. If the seditionist left is not stopped this fall using the ballot box, then our alternatives for maintaining a Constitutional Republic within at least some portion of what is today the United States of America are few and grim, and may involve the cartridge box.
The choices as I see them:
1. THE NUCLEAR OPTION: Go our separate ways. Dissolve this three-way “marriage” of the socialist left, the Constitutionalists, and the neoconservatives. End this unhappy union of hopelessly bigoted whites, angry hate-filled negroes, and nationalist latin americans. Dissolve the union, and fragment the country
Unfortunately, the opportunity for peaceful secession and reorganization has passed, if it ever existed at all, I’m afraid. Most Americans have been poorly educated on the matter, purposefully, by the victors of our Civil War. Many, if not most Americans, simply cannot divorce the concept of secession from the concepts of slavery, and racism, entirely different and otherwise unrelated concepts. If we are to split now, and I suspect we might, it will come only after complete economic collapse, horrific violence, and utter chaos. Our breakup would not resemble “letting the erring sisters go in peace”. It would much more resemble the bloody Balkanization of the former Yugoslavia, but on a larger scale, and the sudden, largely unpredicted, and chaotic collapse of the USSR.
2. THE CONSTITUTIONAL OPTION: Exercise the Second Amendment for it’s intended purpose. Refresh the tree of liberty with the blood of patriots and tyrants. Restore Constitutional order by force, remove the seditionists from the system, and take measures to ensure that they cannot re-emerge.
Of many questions that arise with this option, one becomes, what is to be done with the tens of millions of seditionists? They do have a right to live, somewhere, under socialism if they so choose. This is their homeland, just as it is ours. Complicating matters is the fact that nearly all leftists are sickeningly arrogant, utterly uncompromising, and entirely globalist in their world view. They believe that their ideas of government and society are superior to all others, which in itself is not terribly dangerous. But, with this bigotry, they combine a blind, fanatical desire to spread their collectivist system to the entire planet, by force if necessary. Their passion to rule the entire world is not exceeded by the most devoted religious zealot. The modern “Progressive” movement is today’s equivalent of Manifest Destiny, on a global scale.
Unlike Constitutionalists, who have no other country to emigrate to, the socialists have many socialists nations from which to choose. But, given their fanatical desire to, “Think Globally and Act Locally”, does anyone expect the left to simply “live and let live”? I do not. Moreover, presuming for the sake of discussion that most of the tens of millions of socialists would be willing to emigrate elsewhere, what countries would wish to accept that many immigrants? And if they stay in our midst, the left will NEVER be content to exist in this country permanently as a dismissed, subdued political minority. Despite the fact that this is precisely what they expect conservatives and Constitutionalists to do, day in, and day out.
3. THE UNTHINKABLE OPTION: Capitulate. Accept that our Constitution is obsolete, and that our Constitutional Republic is no more. Resign ourselves, and our posterity, to an era of servitude under the present regime, knowing that their ignorance and arrogance will only lead to continued devolution into economic catastrophe, societal chaos, and total loss of liberty for generations. This is the option that I see as most likely to happen at present, given the current weak status of the only two entities that can challenge the status quo peacefully – the GOP and the TEA Party organization.
At once I feel privileged to live in such an historic time, and to partake in the debate, but also gravely concerned for our prospects of saving this Republic.

Ax-whatever. My wife went back to work for a small independent in the health care business a couple of years ago running the front office of a busy practice doing the scheduling and insurance billing for $8.35 an hour, and after 90 days got a halfway decent insurance coverage for a scant $245 pretax withdrawn from her paycheck. Did either of us bitch or complain? No. Was it unfair? no. It was the way things were, and we dealt with it. I read in a book somewhere that is what Americans do. We get up go to work and deal with our problems, period. In between that job she kept looking and found another job less hours more money per hour but again benefits after 90 days. Long story short the practice downsized because of the economy this year and had to let her go. What did she do, moped around for a day or 2, bowed her back and hit the bricks. 3 weeks later found a job in the medical industry again this time for 13 bucks an hour with benefits and a raise after 6 months. This is what a 57 year old woman can do in this country. The moral of the story is it is only hard times if you think some one owes you something, which clearly you do. I guess if the majority of this country insist that part of my families obligation is to take care of succubus like you,so be it. Just don’t expect us to like it, OK pal. You want equality how about every person that is receives welfare, pee into the cup, just like the rest of us have to do to get a job. Now there’s some change I could go for.
