AFP: German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday brushed aside calls from within her own party to pull off the gloves in her battle for re-election in four weeks after strong setbacks in state polls. Merkel hit back at critics who said her above-the-fray campaign style bore part of the blame for the conservatives' losses in three regional elections held Sunday, which saw them lose control of two state houses.
