Man Fired From Home Depot Over ‘One Nation Under God’ Button

WPTV: Last month, when Trevor Keezer started bringing his Bible to work, Keezer says his manager confronted him about the ["One nation under God, indivisible."] button. "That's when I was told it had to come off, or I would be sent home. So they sent me home for six straight days without pay. And then today they terminated me."

I hope they sue the pants off of Home Depot.

BOYCOTT HOME DEPOT!   October 26th, 2009 - 10:40 am

HOME DEPOT, you SUK!

claspur   October 26th, 2009 - 10:40 am

Oh Cr@p !
Where the heck is my boycott list at, anyway?

Did those MAObummercorn kids get their H1N1 shots yet, btw….. ?

Paul W.   October 26th, 2009 - 10:40 am

Well, it looks like I’ll have to find another home improvement store to spend my home improvement money. You screwed up on that decision Home Depot. This one is going to cost you a lot of money and sales. I hope he finds a good lawyer.

claspur   October 26th, 2009 - 10:53 am

Go to True Value. It’s semi-over priced, but you get workers that will help you-out for what you’re looking for, Paul.

brigitte yee   October 26th, 2009 - 10:56 am

well, i won’t ever be shopping at that racist place again.

BullDawg   October 26th, 2009 - 11:02 am

People it’s time to stand up, BOYCOTT THE CRAP OUT OF HOME DEPOT, tell everyone you know. I won’t buy another thing from them. I hope this man sues the heck out of them. Time to take back our country. http://www.GOOOH.com

kolbee123   October 26th, 2009 - 11:03 am

don’t just post a comment here, contact Home Depot and let them know you are taking your business to local supply stores. Remember, Home Depot awarded their last CEO $32mm for losing money at Home Depot.

alongcameaspyder   October 26th, 2009 - 11:08 am

Take a look at Acts 18:10 please, since they brought it up.

Acts 18:10 For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city.

That is God speaking to Paul, it is TO Paul, period!

The fools in ‘God’s county, abreviated the verse this way,

Act 18:10 For I am with thee, …for I have much people in this city.

They do this WHY?

To make you think it is a Christian county! In a Christian country.

That is a lie!

THIS is the verse that applies to that county, and that country…

Matthew 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

FEW AMONG ANY POPULATION IS CHRISTIAN.

AND THOSE THAT ARE CHRISTIAN BEHAVE THIS WAY…

Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you

CHRISTIANS DO NOT KILL MEN WHEN PERSECUTED…

As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Romans 8:36

God says, “persecuted, we suffer it” 1 Corinthians 4:12

America says, “persecuted, we kill it” 1776 – 2009

AMERICA CONTRADICTS GOD ALMIGHTY AND HIS CHRIST!

AND IT ALWAYS HAS!

PEOPLE WHO CONTRADICT GOD ARE NOT CHRISTIAN PEOPLE!

If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. John 14:23

STUPID PEOPLE CONTRADICT GOD, AND THEY ARE SO STUPID THEY DON’T KNOW THEY ARE CONTRADICTING GOD!

There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Proverbs 14:12

GG   October 26th, 2009 - 11:09 am

It is understandable. It would set a precedence an all other religions or whatever could wear crackpot buttons. I wonder how they feel about just an American flag? After all we are in America.

B17Engr   October 26th, 2009 - 11:09 am

Fire that manager of Home Depot!

I don’t think it was the policy of the store, BUT if it was,
Then we should boycott Home Depot!

John   October 26th, 2009 - 11:09 am

I have requested a press release from Home Depot Corporate and will be taking photos of HD employees here in TX to disprove their “company approved” button lies. Multiple employees wear buttons of various nature at the stores I have shopped at, some celebrating their lifestle (very colorful, some rainbows, pink triangles) others the President. I urge everyone to find similar evidence and call these cowardly liars out.

shane2813   October 26th, 2009 - 11:10 am

Hey Home Depot you made a big mistake. Where do these stupid people come from??? I bet they sell holiday trees during Christmas too. Stupid is as stupid does!!! MARXIST=DEMOCRATS=TERRORIST All the same ask the Atheists at Home Depot.

steve1953   October 26th, 2009 - 11:11 am

Just cut my Home Dumbo card in half.
Now the button police will have to have all the employees remove their personel touch buttons. Maybe they could change to Brown Vests.
Why not just tell to idiot that must have complained to go scratch.
Better to lose one wacko than hundreds of paying customers.

Nick   October 26th, 2009 - 11:19 am

Home Depot has a right to determine how their employees dress. He can wear whatever he wants when he’s not at work.

Other   October 26th, 2009 - 11:20 am

Its Home Depots right to do so…but I don’t like the idea that they felt they had to do it.

I knew I liked Home Depot for a reason!   October 26th, 2009 - 11:23 am

Leave your religious crap at home, Bozo. This is a place of business. If you want to convert the masses or spread the word, then do it at church or on the street corner.

Greg   October 26th, 2009 - 11:25 am

Lowes is cheaper anyways.

Jon   October 26th, 2009 - 11:32 am

He is an idiot

they have a dress code that says no non company buttons regardless of message.

HATE RELIGION   October 26th, 2009 - 11:35 am

Let’s make something clear…if you want to make a choice to reject your brain and believe in fairy tales, you have EVERY Right in the world to do it. Your religion is YOUR religion. I have no interest in it. If there’s one thing that is a universal truth it’s that the more someone thumps the bible and hangs on to a god, the more untrustworthy they are.

Home Depot is a business. If they don’t want you wearing your religion and potentially offending customers they have EVERY RIGHT To do so! What if someone was a devil worshiper you Christ lovers? Would you be offended if you walked in and saw a guy wearing “Christ Loves C*ck…Long Live Satan?” I would be just as offended seeing that as I would what this guy wore. Your RELIGION is your own and people should respect another person’s right to believe whatever they want… Grow up!!!

Tim   October 26th, 2009 - 11:37 am

Call 770-433-8211 and ask for the CEO office and let them know how you feel.

Jeremy   October 26th, 2009 - 11:38 am

In that day, good will be called evil, and evil good.

Tim   October 26th, 2009 - 11:43 am

Just read your comment ‘hate religion’. You live in the USA, which is ‘one nation under God’. This kids wasn’t wearing a Jesus button, or a button with a specific religion or church mentioned. He had been wearing the button for a year. I suggest you leave the USA if you don’t like it. This kid wasn’t ‘thumping’ the bible. He brought it to read during his break. Maybe you think you should prepare a list of things the kid can and cannot read on his break? ‘Hate Religion’ this country is, and has been, one nation under God. Your hate speech won’t change that.

Kimberlyc   October 26th, 2009 - 11:44 am

Wait just a minute….You can’t fire a Muslim for wearing a burkah (it happened at The Gap stores), but it’s OK to fire an American for wearing a button that quotes a saying from our Pledge of Allegiance ??? What the heck is going on in this Country, this is America, isn’t it???

binghd   October 26th, 2009 - 11:45 am

home depot was not wrong although i agree with the button. if this button is allowed what would the next button say. islam or die. kill the whales. shop at lowes. think of other buttons you would not want to see.

Jeremy   October 26th, 2009 - 11:46 am

H R

Or until a muslim wants to wear his sand hat or a queer wants to wear his rainbow button and home depot takes that away, then that would be RACIST. AND the ACLU would be all over that.

Its only when God, Jesus, or the Bible is involved thats when everybody gets there underwear in a bind. Tell me why is that.

JASKRJ   October 26th, 2009 - 11:47 am

I wonder if ‘In God We Trust’ is a phrase Home Depot approves?

doogle   October 26th, 2009 - 11:54 am

Hmmm…I wonder how Home Depot would react if a female Muslim employee showed up in a burqa…?

Sue Tipping   October 26th, 2009 - 11:55 am

Dear Hate Religion: You are within your rights to hate religion. Hating it does not change the truth. All you see, hear, feel, think, eat, breathe, experience is God given.

Seems like a good move or else you will see the Koran and the Talmud in the store, too.

MiPain   October 26th, 2009 - 12:14 pm

WOW…How Lowe can you go…or should I say how fast can you go there… Isnt that line in that pledge thingy we learned in school?

I knew there was something I liked about Home Depot!   October 26th, 2009 - 12:21 pm

MiPain,
You’re right…that thingy is in the pledge we learned in school. It shouldn’t have been though. It was added in the ’50’s during the height of the Cold War when we tried to make a distinction between ourselves and those Godless Commies. It’s time to change it back.

fdsafsa   October 26th, 2009 - 12:21 pm

Home Depot has become like Target: overly Politcally Correct. For example, Lowes has had Christmas banners in their stores every year. Home Depot had to be pushed-and-kicked into it (they put Christmas banners up only because it was a competitive season last year.)

txmike   October 26th, 2009 - 12:22 pm

Why doesn’t home depot support our nation’s Pledge of Allegiance. Why did home depot fire an American for supporting our nation’s Pledge of Allegiance? WHAT is wrong with home depot?

Commieobamie   October 26th, 2009 - 12:23 pm

“In God We Trust” is on all your money. So Home Depot and all the GOD haters, please send ALL of your money to me so these awful words won’t make you feel bad.

checkit   October 26th, 2009 - 12:28 pm

I will NOT be shopping at Home Depot, period.

Thanks for the report I do NOT support anti-American / anti-God Businesses.

Doofus the Religious Defender   October 26th, 2009 - 12:33 pm

former HD employee here. I hate the company but you conservative religious nuts are over the top.

-Can you prove God exists? didn’t think so.

-is it possible he exists? no, because then you would be circumscribing them as (1) male, and (2) as a finite being that exists. if he is infinite then he cannot be circumscribed. you better think over that logic

-get over it. you want businesses to succeed with minimal government interference but you want to interfere with their right to control what employees wear. how would you like it if they let employees wear “All HD customers are morons”?

-One Nation Under God? the pledge of allegiance was modified during the 20th century to include two words “Under God”. it existed just fine without it before then.

HD has a right to control displays in their stores. It doesn’t matter how long he wore it before, if you don’t like it then don’t shop there. Just quit being a bunch of two-faced hypocritical bastiches.

(and a female muslim would not show up to work in a burqa. wearing a burqa defines them as belonging to a muslim sect which prohibits them from associating with non-related males)

Desiree   October 26th, 2009 - 12:34 pm

It sure would be something if all employees of the store wore that ONE NATION UNDER GOD button to work.

I can’t believe in the United States of America, you can be fired for something like this.

Checkit,
God mentioned in the fourth stanza (once) in the National Anthem and the phrase is “In God is our trust”, not One Nation Under God. No one sings this verse so this is hardly a ringing endorsement.

Not shopping at Home Depot   October 26th, 2009 - 12:56 pm

Good for him. I’m shopping at Lowe’s we have to stand up or they will take our identity of freedom of religion and speech away. Yes we are a Christian Nation and any other country is proud to claim their religion to other countries. Yet we are not?

TIME OUT, DOOFUS! TIME OUT!

From whom did you receive your BREATH OF LIFE, Doofus? It ain’t a right, you know. Millions of lives have been snuffed out – murdered – before they reached the door of their Mother’s womb!

As for a female muslim showing up to work in a burqa… I saw a female Muslim wear her religious clothing to work – a few years after “9/11″ in a retail store of a corporation I do business with. I asked her why she was dressed as she was. She said she was Muslim. I said, “You’re Muslim, and you dare to wear this to work after “9/11?” I didn’t know anyone who died in the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, but I told her if I had I would be even more offended, more furious, than I was right then.

How blatant! Her boss came over, put her arm around the woman, and said, “We have religious freedom in AMERICA.” I fired back, “Oh, no! We don’t! I was born here! My children were born here! I’m an AMERICAN and my children can’t take their Bibles to school, say a Morning Prayer at School, and the TEN COMMANDMENTS can’t be posted in a Court House or Court Room! No – we no longer have “freedom of religion” in AMERICA!”

“But your GOD, and mine, are the same,” the Muslim woman said. “Oh, no! They are not! You have NOT READ your Quo’ran. It says you are not to suffer a Jew nor a Christian to live! That is NOT the GOD – THE ONLY LIVING GOD – that I know! Now GO HOME – and CHANGE YOUR CLOTHES!”

I then turned, and walked out.

Doofus, I’m thinking you’re angry because you’ve been greatly disappointed by someone or a group of someone’s who professed to be Christian or because GOD – THE ONLY LIVING GOD, did not answer a prayer you prayed to HIM in a manner you thought HE SHOULD. Maybe something happened in your life that caused you to lose all hope in GOD?

I have a friend who lost his faith in GOD – THE ONLY LIVING GOD – when he saw the bodies of fifty (50) babies laid out in rows on a chapel floor in Viet Nam. I wouldn’t even attempt to explain these things.

I only know I’m so sorry, Doofus, as I know the anger, and pain, of being disappointed by Christian Pastors/Leaders, only too well. But they don’t answer for me now, and won’t when I stand before THE ONLY LIVING GOD as my spirit enters Eternity so I move on in my faith in HIM… with HIM.

Do know this, Doofus, if it were not for “the people of the Scripture” (Spirit-filled Christians,) AMERICA would have already been run over by “the people of Allah” and none of us – no, not one – would have the privilege of posting, and having these conversations. That day may come.

Meanwhile, GOD bless you, Doofus. Now – back to the battle!

For all you God haters…you morons are some dumba$$ pinheads. The word God isn’t strictly a religious term…it stand primarily for goodness, strength, and powerful one. So when we say, “One nation under God” or “In God we Trust” depending on your beliefs it all reflects goodness, strength, and powerful one. All you God haters are nothing more then that, HATERS. Believe in what you may but don’t trash the word “God” because it has multiple meanings.

revolverBoy   October 26th, 2009 - 1:37 pm

This dope was warned and given alternatives. You might like the message on his button this time, but what about when one of his fellow employees wants to wear a button that says “Satan is My Master and Will Bring Down America”? Who gets to decide which buttons are appropriate? Home Depot doesn’t care about God or Satan; they care about selling hardware, and that’s what they’re supposed to care about. And the better they are at selling hardware, the more blue collar people like Keezer will have a good job to go to every day – which is what we should all care about.

The Home Depot’s values guide the beliefs and actions of all associates on a daily basis. Our values are the fabric of the Company’s unique culture and are central to our success. In fact, they are our competitive advantage in the marketplace. Associate pride and our “orangeblooded” entrepreneurial spirit are distinctive hallmarks of our culture.

Taking care of our people:
The key to our success is treating people well. We do this by encouraging associates to speak up and take risks, by recognizing and rewarding good performance and by leading and developing people so they may grow.

Giving back to our communities:
An important part of the fabric of The Home Depot is giving our time, talents, energy and resources to worthwhile causes in our communities and society.

Doing the right thing:
We exercise good judgment by “doing the right thing” instead of just “doing things right.” We strive to understand the impact of our decisions, and we accept responsibility for our actions.

Excellent customer service:
Along with our quality products, service, price and selection, we must go the extra mile to give customers knowledgeable advice about merchandise and to help them use those products to their maximum benefit.

Creating shareholder value:
The investors who provide the capital necessary to allow our company to grow need and expect a return on their investment. We are committed to providing it.

Building strong relationships:
Strong relationships are built on trust, honesty and integrity. We listen and respond to the needs of customers, associates, communities and vendors, treating them as partners.

Entrepreneurial spirit:
The Home Depot associates are encouraged to initiate creative and innovative ways of serving our customers and improving the business and to spread best practices throughout the company.

Respect for all people:
In order to remain successful, our associates must work in an environment of mutual respect, free of discrimination and harassment where each associate is regarded as a part of The Home Depot team.

=========================================================

This is not preaching, Bozo, it is right out of the pledge of American allegiance. But then that is probably offends these leftist atheists who believe Everything “evolved” out of Nothing. That would be a nice trick if you could pull it off. Science says it is impossible.

If I remember Home Depot was one of those merchants who were selling “holiday” trees then switched back to selling “Christmas” trees when they found out people were not looking for “holiday” trees.

It wasnt the button, it was when he brought his Bible to read on his lunch break, thats when it became a problem.

What is wrong with reading your bible on break, they wanted him out there and the button was there ticket.

It is the pledge to this country, supporting his brother who is fighting for this country. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT.

YOU CALL US NUT JOBS, RADICALS, MORONS. WHY. Because we love our spouse take care of our kids, dont get drunk and beat them, commit adultry, help our neighbors.

hate abortion, we think homosexuality is a sin. We try to live right by the Bible, we are not perfect, we screw up like everybody else. We understand we are sinners in need of a savior, Jesus Christ. We will not deny him.

You do not believe the Bible is because you never read it, tell me do you feel good when you cheat on your wife, or lie to her. Does a woman feel good when she kills her unborn child, how about when your so drunk you puke all over your floor and pass out on the toilet, TELL ME DOES IT FEEL GOOD. NO it is sin and thats why they hate the bible, it tells you who you really are and it cuts like a knife.

#1. Private business, can make its own rules as to uniform as long as the rule DOES NOT contradict existing law (including discrimination);

#2. This man started work for a company who makes it oh-so-clear as to what you can and can’t wear…before it hires;

#3. This man AGREED to work under the uniform requirements; this man was reminded of the uniform policy; this man was given a chance to work within the uniform policy; this man REFUSED to work within the rules and regulations of a private company;

#4. Attempting to force a company to accept what HE wanted to wear has nothing to do with religion; it’s simply a type of extortion;

#5. A teacher can’t wear a political button nor a religious proclamation, so why should this individual be able to wear what he pleases in a PRIVATELY OWNED company?

#6. I’m sure Home Depot will truly miss the 100 or so that will boycott the company….until they need something for their job or home.

Let’s see. I need some tools. . . . Home Depot has ‘em. Lowes has ‘em. After seeing this, think I’ll go to Lowes.

AuntWie   October 26th, 2009 - 3:46 pm

Home Depot WAS wrong. “One nation under G-d” is not a religious statement. It is a quotation from the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States of America.

As far as I’m concerned, Home Depot just took out a big ad that said “Shop at Lowe’s”. It’s too bad. They recently opened a store not too far down the road and it’s a pretty good store. I don’t boycott stores for disagreeing with me, because I believe deeply that freedom of expression is out first, primary, and most critical freedom. That includes the freedom for individuals and corporations to hold and to express opinions that I think really stink. So I had to really think about this one. I think that Home Depot clearly has a right to limit the personal expressions of employees while on company time. If you’re not going to allow, as binghd said, “Islam or Die” or “Kill the Whales” then you probably can’t allow “I Heart Jesus”.

We are in a time of war, though. If an expression of loyalty to the country is prohibited, then why not? Customs aren’t forced to agree, but anyone who objects to the fact that (many) American citizens are actually loyal to America …. well, someone needs a new brain.

I’d love to see a competitor come out with ads that close with: “We believe the USA IS One Nation Under God! God bless the USA!”. And, BTW, although likely penned by Judeo-Christians, those phrases are NOT specific to any one monotheistic religion.

Home Depot is a business and its management has every right to set whatever rules it wants.

Fortunately I have just as much right to shop where I choose, as do polytheists, atheists and agnostics. Given a choice I prefer to support a business that supports the expression of my beliefs (including the words ‘Christmas’ and ‘Easter’).

The problem with this issue is that the employee was permitted to wear the button until he was ‘caught’ reading the Bible. Apparently that was his ’sin’, and that is what ultimately catalyzed his dismissal. If I confirm the voracity of this story, Home Depot will no longer my first, or even second, choice for home improvement products.

bigScrotum   October 26th, 2009 - 6:11 pm

It’s their store and private property. They can have him wear a goofy uniform, pay squat and tell him not to wear religious buttons on their dime.

But then again, this might be one of those cases where right-wing cranks think government control of free enterprise is OK.

Maybe everyone should teabag them.

TruthTeller   October 26th, 2009 - 6:25 pm

Home Depot does NOT approve of the following statement, “In God We Trust”.

Therefore: Since that saying is on EVERY piece of printed or minted money in the United States, PLEASE, do not send them ANY of the offending items, such as nickles, dimes, quarters or US Dollars.

My business has spent about $18,000.00 annually at Home Depot. Unless this manager is fired, the young man re-hired, and an apology issued, they can kiss my little pittance goodbye.

There are businesses like Loews, Tru-Value and locals that will welcome 18,000 items that all say, “In God We Trust”. They actually care about America and it’s brave soldiers.

TruthTeller   October 26th, 2009 - 6:29 pm

PS-> I hear ACORN has recently let some people go.

Home Depot can hire them, and they can teach their customers how to lie, cheat on their taxes, start child prostitution rings, launder illegal cash and steal from your stores!

Chris5209   October 26th, 2009 - 6:56 pm

I called Home Depot today to complain…..they said having the button WAS NOT the reason he was fired but she couldn’t give me details as to why he was fired.

I told her my family and I will NEVER shop at Home Depot again. She said she really didn’t care!!

BOYCOTT HOME DEPOT   October 26th, 2009 - 7:01 pm

Where did you get that? Science say all things are possible. The issue is one of probability. Given the right thermodynamic conditions, everything could evolve “out of Nothing”.

======================================

Sounds like you are arguing what the meaning of “is” is.

Nothing means nothing – absence of possibility, probability, thermodynamics, gravity, and everything thing else. Everything means everything. Zip, Nada, zero, void. I would bet that even Bill Clinton knows the definition of “nothing”.

“Nothing” is a condition that no longer exists in this universe and did not exist before this universe came into existence otherwise it would not be here because all there is in nothing is nothing. Nothing can’t even exist because there is no existence in nothing.

If you manage to get anything out of nothing then it wasn’t nothing to start with. You can’t even call nothing “it” because “it” refers to something and “nothing is just “nothing”. There is not even a “maybe” in “nothing”.

That’s easy to understand isn’t it?

publiconlineschoolingmom   October 26th, 2009 - 7:56 pm

Home Depot needs to stop taking American Cash “In God We Trust”. Throw the customers out that use American cash. Yeah, that’ll happen, today.

Libertea   October 26th, 2009 - 8:04 pm

I wonder if schools are even teaching the “Pledge of Allegiance”..anymore.
Its NOT taught in church. Its not about God……its about our country.
(which is being hi jacked as we speak)

“I pledge allegiance to the flag, and to the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands…….ONE NATION, UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE, with Justice and Liberty for all.”
Thats the one where u used to put your hand over your heart and face the flag and say it.

Im just sayin…

Mark   October 26th, 2009 - 10:16 pm

Hang in there Trevor. I went through something similar with Meijer Stores in Indiana regarding wearing an American Flag Pin. I ended up giving out over 50 poins to employees to wear. I didn’t get fired, but it created quite a stir, especially when customers (in support)and finally the American Legion and the VFW got involved. God Bless you.

NOT MY HOME DEPOT   October 26th, 2009 - 10:40 pm

I just sent this message to HOME DEPOT via their contact page on their web site:

I just saw a news story out of Okeechobee, FL. A young man who wore a button displaying part of the Pledge of Allegiance was fired from Home Depot. In this current political climate where avowed Communists serve in the administration and other administration Marxists pledge their allegiance to Mao, I will choose to spend my money at businesses that support the foundations of American freedom and liberty. I built my home two years ago and spent thousands of dollars at the Home Depot in Lindon, Utah. Until I see a clear affirmation from Home Depot that it supports America, all of my business and anyone who will listen to me will patronize LOWES in Orem and American Fork. I am an American and if Home Depot wants my business, it will act accordingly.

Fred Johnson   October 27th, 2009 - 12:30 am

THE MANAGER AND THE SUPERVISOR SHOULD BE TERMINATED IF THE ONLY REASON THIS MAN WAS LEFT GO WAS BECAUSE OF HIS WEARING THIS PIN. WHAT IS HAPPENING TO OUR COUNTRY WHEN THIS IS ALLOWED TO HAPPEN?…IF FOUND TO BE TRUE I WILL NEVER SHOP THERE AGAIN!!!!

FRED JOHNSON

James Wilson   October 27th, 2009 - 12:58 am

This is the last straw for me with Home Depot. Lowes will now get all my business.

WHAT IS NEXT?   October 27th, 2009 - 5:06 am

What is next? Are companies going to BAN PEOPLE FROM WEARING CHRISTIAN CROSSES? Becoming a FASCIST is no way to increase TOLERANCE.

Travis   October 27th, 2009 - 9:01 am

People should spend their “In God We Trust” greenbacks elsewhere.

Just wondering   October 27th, 2009 - 10:52 am

You people seems to worship your money more than your God. Maybe it’s time to remove “In God We Trust” from money. What has God got to do with money anyway?

Home Depot has every right to fire this dope. They obviously made the right choice since he clearly cannot focus on the job at hand and seems preoccupied with his religion. Maybe he should become a minister instead.

Sarah, Home Depot   October 27th, 2009 - 2:12 pm

To clarify, we have a long-standing policy that only company-provided pins/badges can be worn on our aprons to recognize great customer service, store achievements, etc.

In this case the issue isn’t whether or not we agree with the belief on the button. That’s not our place to say and is exactly why we have the blanket policy–to avoid having to make such a distinction. With 300k associates we have to have consistent rules rather than getting into store-by-store debates about what’s appropriate.

Time to shop at LOWE’s. Home Depot gave their former CEO a couple of hundred million in compensation, he ran it like a fiefdom not a company. Then the losers at Chrysler hired him to run that dog.
Home Depot, I and my family shop there no more.

Crzydude   October 27th, 2009 - 9:04 pm

Sara,

I understand the importance of a dress-code in a business. I also know that exceptions are made to these codes all the time by local management of national chains. Somehow, allowing the guy to wear his U.S.A. Pledge of Allegiance button for so long, and then yanking the carpet out from under him is just a little disingenuous. If this policy were so important to Home Depot, why so long before letting him go? If it wasn’t about the content and it was all about the policy, then why the delay in dealing with the issue? If HD had taken care of it immediately (i.e.-verbal warning, write-up, suspension, termination) the most it should have taken is for him to have worked 4 days). Maybe the guy’s manager/supervisor was just trying to be nice, but, remember how important this policy is…

I would have let him wear the button. I CERTAINLY would not have done THIS. I think HD made a tactical error here.

BTW…I’m not saying HD had “no right” to fire an employee. I certainly believe that any company should have the right to conduct it’s own affairs. I’m just saying that, given HD’s track record, I think this is simply going to be another example in a long list of other insults where HD is coming down on the wrong side of an issue. It’s almost as if HD is embarrassed by someone who is obviously an unashamed patriot.

Did no one at HD learn the lesson taught recently in Pennsylvania? Sure, there was a code that said the sticker shouldn’t be there, but, upon further reflection, they let it stay.

Now, some think “under God” should be removed, but it hasn’t been…yet. Therefore, it’s still OUR pledge. And HD, which owes a tremendous debt of gratitude to the people of this great nation, has chosen to make a mountain out of a mole-hill instead of simply making an exception for such a decent and encouraging message.

…but what do I know, I’m just a backward, right-wing, Christian, conservative, racist, sexist, bigot, homophobe, toothless, ignorant, mean-spirited, kooky American who happens to believe the United States Pledge of Allegiance stands for something…

One day, HD will miss us. Despite all the things for which we are constantly impugned and maligned, one thing we are is loyal. I see a lot of posts here about going somewhere else. Do you have a policy about that?

In Christ,
Crzydude

PS-God bless you.

The most repugnant part of this is that the guy has a family member fighting in Iraq providing freedom for Home Depot employees to do their business each day. Simply Sickening.

Christians have no rights in this country. Time to take it back.

Stand up and be counted!   October 28th, 2009 - 10:11 pm

Ask any former Muslim and they will tell you this :

‘Allah’ is NOT the Arabic word for “God.”It is the Arabic word for the Babylonian moon god ‘Bel’,so the lady who told the Muslim woman ‘Oh no,your god and mine are not the same” is right on ‘fruit’ terms(it’s obvious WHO the god of Islam is),but also etymology wise,as well.

Home Depot also doesn’t like the homeless,as they brought the police in and booted the homeless off of a vacant lot they owned in Toronto a few years back. Now,while one could perhaps understand it all from a sanitation point of view, just the same…with all the money, they have, you’d think they could’ve done something to help their fellow man.but they care about only one thing -their bank account!

Home Depot is a big supporter of homosexuality, same sex marriage, illegal aliens and a whole host of un-American things! In other words, they must be “globalists!”"Freemasons” too,I’ll bet!

Boycott them and any other “global” “anti-christian” anti-jewish businesses!

It’s time to fight back!

btw: Don’t fall for The Swine Flu Hoax, either!

What

DonL   October 29th, 2009 - 10:12 am

What is all the talk about a “religious button” All the button had on it was a portion of the PLEDGE OF ALLEGIENCE. Now . . . is it wrong to display my patriotism? I don’t think so. That supervisor should pull his head out of his you know where, and realize what the button said. Is he ANTI AMERICAN? Does is not utter the words “under God” when he recitges the Pledge? Or is he, and Home Depot just plain idiots who believe that making this stand will enhance sales. I would venture a guess it would be just the opposite. If Home Depot had any sort of “cutzpah” they would buy that button and give it to all employees in support of our country . . . to do otherwise is thumbing your nose at the very hand that feeds you. I in fact will not shop at Home Depot until they decide to resolve this issue in favor of the original button wearer. Where is your American Pride Home depot? If it is in the cash register, I think you may start to find it dwindling!

Kell Brigan   October 29th, 2009 - 7:34 pm

I’m Catholic and I agree with Home Depot. Do you really want to have to read insulting buttons about the Flying Spaghetti Monster or “U.S. out of my ovaries” etc. etc. etc. If he can wear a political button AT WORK WHILE INTERACTING WITH CUSTOMERS so can everyone else.

Kell Brigan   October 29th, 2009 - 7:40 pm

And, yes, this is a political statement because the version of the Pledge he’s quoting is not the original version. This issue is currently being debated in the courts and legislatures of various states. The phrase “…under God” was added to the pledge in the 1950s. The original verison contains only the phrase “indivisable.” NO POLITICS AT STORES. IF I GO TO HOME DEPOT, I DON’T WANT ANYONE TRYING TO SELL ME ANYTHING HAVING TO DO WITH POLITICS OR RELIGION, EVEN IF I MIGHT AGREE WITH THEM. EMPLOYEES DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF A JOB THAT MIGHT HAPPEN TO INCLUDE PUBLIC CONTACT TO SHOVE THEIR OPINIONS IN FRONT OF OTHER PEOPLE. (And, if the “witches” are wearing their symbols the same way any Christian would, i.e. as personal jewelry, it’s quite a different thing than wearing a POLITICAL campaign button. If this man wants to wear a cross as jewelry, fine, but the button has to go.

Jeremy   October 30th, 2009 - 1:41 am

Typical catholic. Your god is the evil looking bogey man in Rome. There is nothing christian about your religion.

And by the way, wants is so political about the pledge of allegience, are you not an american. OH I forgot your loyalty belongs to the pope. Remeber if you deny God he will deny you.

A   October 30th, 2009 - 1:05 pm

i agree with what one person wrote about how they saw various buttons with colorful rainbows and pink triangles on it.

its ridiculous to fire someone because of a button they wear! I just don’t understand it. Other religions seem to have rights but where are those of Christians? We’re not allowed to do anything, because we’re “imposing our beliefs on others” and this is supposed to be a nation of “tolerance”

where’s the tolerance?

not to mention the button didn’t have the Lord’s prayer on it. it had the pledge of allegiance on it!! We’re Americans come on Home Depot

and if someone is SOOO offended by a button, seriously get a life. or maybe get a button with your own beliefs on it.

Hey my fellow Christians, the only way we are going to take the country back is the same way they did in the Old Testament, by force.I don’t want to here about how God would not want us to do that because we are living in the New Testament times, He is the same God now as then, and we are His people in this country.

Jeanne Savana   November 1st, 2009 - 10:16 am

That whole “dress code violation” is a crock. I’ve seen other types of buttons that were ridiculous and that person was still checking. Our checker on our last visit to Home Depot (10-04-09 User ID:75339 75034 Password: 9504 75033)had designs carved into her hair, which was purple and black, and piercings that were disgusting. I didn’t see anyone firing her for her expression of self.

NO MEMBER OF MY FAMILY WILL SHOP AT HOME DEPOT AGAIN.

Liz   November 1st, 2009 - 8:56 pm

Home Depot should be gravely ashamed of themselves for firing a man wearing an AMERICAN FLAG button partially quoting the Pledge of Allegience. This is un-American, clearly bigotted, and has sent me to Lowe’s. This store should be chastised for such such prejudiced behavior. It is not a Christian statement on the button- it is an American statement. Home Depot – go to Afganistan if you don’t like America. Why should we give you any more American money. Shame, shame on you on so many levels.

As for reading his Bible on breaks..it is a book( a best seller no less), and his free time…why should HD care. It is they that are making a “religious” statement it would seem. No more of my money for you. HD is a disgrace to the American retail trade. That store should be punished, and the manager fired. The young man should be given a huge severance check. Good bye HD…you surely stink!

Kim   November 2nd, 2009 - 1:17 am

Home Depot needs to be held accountable for discrimination. This is not about the botton saying ‘One Nation Under God, Idivisible’. This is about a Christian who was seen reading his Bible and they used the botton as a means to give him the boot! Unacceptable! My husband is a General Contractor who will no longer be giving Home Depot a single “In God We Trust” dime! We will tell all of our customers and subs. Join us in getting this story out and supporting a great American! Thank you for standing strong Trevor.

Home Depot paid my son while he was away in Iraq.

For all of you who doubt that they support our country, you should take a look at a paycheck that he gets from them just for being in the military. He said that he told them that he was getting activated and they shook his hand and said “kick some ass for us.”

My son says that they can’t wear any outside buttons because unions can walk in and legally put pins on every person in the place.

Stop whining.

God country corp. enough said! I’m very ashamed of the CEO for not standing up for what is right. Americans are dieing every day to protect the place were you have your place of business. You need to check yourself and start to realize that if you don’t stop and reflect about what you have and who you should be thanking you never really deserve anything at all. That is whats wrong with America today. We all tend to lose sight of what is right and what we should be thankful for.It is up to are piers to make a stand to make a good example for Americans to follow. We’re a Christian Nation, under God and God will provide us with what we need in this world to survive. Simply stated, if buttons with other religious and/or social comments are allowed at Home Depot, it is wrong to prevent Mr. Keezer from wearing his. If they are not allowed, neither should his be.

Mr. Keezer has a right to his beliefs. But wearing that button makes every customer he comes in contact wih a captive audience for them. And not everyone wants to be confronted with a religious statement — even, I am sure, some who agree with Mr. Keezer.

As long as the store policy is conistent in this regard, Home Depot is acting properly.

You go to any place of employment to WORK, not to spread the friggin’ gospel. Religion is dead, the concept of a fantastic deity is dying, and thankfully the new generation of Americans rapidly coming in to power embrace the books of mathematics, biology, and science over a convoluted, tired, bull shit pile of rubbish so full of holes it makes swiss cheese seem solid. As “God’ is merely a concept devised by frightened cave dwellers, and “Jesus” was simply some sandal wearing, Middle Eastern, hippie douche bag who was pinned up to the cross by Romans who were tired of hearing his whining I say GOOD JOB HOME DEPOT!
