Man Accidentally Shoots Woman During ‘Avatar’ Screening

KOB: According to an arrest warrant, [Dante] Aikins was upset about the blunder, telling his friends, "I can't believe it, I dropped my pistol." Albuquerque Public Safety Chief Darren White: "It appears Aikins tried [to] act as though it was a firecracker because he knew what he had done."

let me guess, illegal gun, no conceal carry permit, former felon, yet they’ll blame it on gun control

Why did that need to be censored?

Sage   January 12th, 2010 - 11:17 pm

New Mexico is a right to carry state, the guy is a criminal to begin with otherwise having a gun here or there is not an issue.

The police spokesperson says “why would any one carry a gun in a theater” yet the reporter said that he’s being charged with unlawful possession of a firearm so yes your assumption is correct. Instead blaming Dante for breaking the law(i.e. carry a concealed weapon without permit and possibly not allowed to own it due to criminal past if applicable) the spokesperson instantly blames anybody who lawfully carries a firearm.

You don’t need a concealed carry “permit.”

brad   January 12th, 2010 - 11:23 pm

The whole question at the end about how does someone just walk into a movie theatre with a gun and if the theatre is going to step up security because someone brought a gun in is stupid. What about all of the legal people who carry. If I am outside, I have my legally obtained pistol in a proper holster with my concealed carry permit in my wallet and I carry to the movies all the time because in san antonio people get robbed at the movies weekly.

Terry   January 12th, 2010 - 11:23 pm

Around Blacks, never relax.

They get robbed weekly because of Blacks and Mexicans. There are so many ridiculous caveats to that “LICENSE” but you all thought it was swell that the government threw you a crumb. No permit is needed for a RIGHT.

There must have been a moment when the woman thought Avatar is way too real. Dollars to donuts, this cretin is tied to other gun crimes in the city now that his picture is plastered all over.

oldbluesboy   January 13th, 2010 - 3:22 am

Idiot reporting. CCL owners can do this.

steve in Pa.   January 13th, 2010 - 7:26 am

If they won’t give up the guns at least teach them hood 101 gun safety.

Dave   January 13th, 2010 - 8:24 am

It’s inaccurate to say that we have a “gun problem” in America, what we have is a Blacks with guns problem in America.

propaganda   January 13th, 2010 - 9:11 am

the guy at the end says it was a “foolish thing” to walk into a movie with a loaded gun. um no, it was foolish to drop it moron. guess what folks, a lot of people have guns on them when they go to a movie etc. obviously this guy was not a responsible gun “owner” (probably “stealer”).

melli50   January 13th, 2010 - 11:34 am

Stupid police chief. Americans have the right to carry a loaded gun even into a theater. Gun safety and intelligence are what we are lacking-not more security. duh.

Drano   January 13th, 2010 - 6:28 pm

You nailed it, Dave 8:24am

It is obvious to everyone except the politically corrected.
