Happens when folks start the pump, get back into the car, then go back to the pump too.
More common then you think.
Man does our healthcare suck, surely they checked to make sure he had a cadillac health care plan before giving him an airlift to the best medical care in the world. EMT’s probably had to kick aside dozens of bodies of dead and sick people living in the ditch just to find the burn victim.
Name one documented case of a cell phone igniting gasoline or a gasoline pump.

Static charge from (as keith said) getting in and out of the car, or pumping his gas while going into the station. If you do need to leave the nozzle while pumping gas, touch a bare piece of metal on the pump before grasping the nozzle.
Alex Bell–You pinhead, there has never been a recorded case of a cell phone sparking a fire at the pump. I believe the Mythbusters even busted that theory. Don’t come on here spewing your personal thoughts if they are not credible….this isn’t CNN or MSNBC here, it’s Breitbart TV.
SubjectoftheUSSA: Stupid is as stupid does… Nuff said.
I guess the warning notices in cell phone instruction manuals are simply CYA’s. I’ll tell my boss Mr. Bell to hang it up.
Number one mistake when static electricity sets off a fire at the gas pump…pulling the nozzle out of the gas tank. DO NOT PULL THE KNOZZLE OUT.
If you pull the hose knozzle out of the car tank and it’s still pumping gas…you have a HUGE problem…because gas may continue to spray all over the car, you, the area surrounding the pump before you realize you are on fire and finally drop the hose….too late.
Leave the knozzle in the tank, release the handle if possible to cut off the flow, and move away from the car. Look for the Emergency Cut-off button or run into store to get clerk to cut off pumps from inside. Even if you do not release the handle before you move away, it should click off automatically.

Happens occasionally when using a cell phone while pumping gas. Thus the warning on all pumps. Stupid cell phone talker.
