You're right, it does take a change in mentality, lets start with pointing out the differences between the prices inner city grocery stores charge versus what that same chain would charge in an affluent suburb, then point out that most of these folks cannot afford a car, (lack of education and no job tends to cause that affliction) and depend on public transportation (which isn't cheap) to transport groceries and most of those systems pack you in shoulder to shoulder making carrying grocery bags next to impossible and then, after all of that you still won't be able to change the mentality of simple minded folks to the extent liberals went to to keep people on their plantations.

In order for me to save my tax dollars and stop this insane madness we need to fix the public school systems, vouchers would be a great start. Education = jobs = less if any dependence on government programs = nutrition = less democratic voters.

Yes, Yes, and what about a garden? A package of seeds can give you enough fresh tomatos for 3 months plus some for canning. Making chilli and pasta sauce from these all winter is fun. My daughter even brought home a popcorn plant from school one day and we popped it latter. Educational and good tasting. I remember one summer I had so many cabbages I took them to work. The next day I got sweet corn and peppers from co-workers. Of course this food is not packed up in microwaveable dishes that you just toss in the trash.

These are accurate prices in and around Phoenix where I live and shop.

Why not ask the Mayor why people don't have jobs that would provide them with much more than $4.06 per day, instead of demanding that the 12,000,000 extra people on food stamps take more money out of my pocket because $4.06 per day is "not enough."

The entitlements in our society are out of control. I was in a super market in Seattle, well Federal Way and happened to be in line behind 2 young twenty somethings (probably 21, not sure). What is wrong with our society? They could easily join the military and provide for themselves. Not to mention that they are wasting X dollars a day on buying cigarettes. We live in the same town. Both of us with lunches and dinners avg. less than $10 a day. Lunch is brown bag. No chips and other crapola. We have 99c stores and regular supermarkets. Last week I bought two hams @ Vons for 67c a lb. You have to know how to shop and not buy junk which I see in every store I go into, being bought on food cards.
My Buddy has a niece that is 18 and has been getting a food card for 2 years. After her mother kicked her out. It's much more than any $200 and he buys it from her. She is single with no kids and just sleeps around and comes back to his house on occasions. Cards are being sold all over town here. You only need the card and a pin #. No one is asked for any kind of I.D.. Take a family with 4 or 5 kids it goes way up and they still have credit on the card to sell for crack, a few joints, booze, junk pills or anything else that gets their cookies off. They also do one other thing we can't—–Most of them go out for junk food or restaurants with the cash they hold back. We haven't been to a Restaurant in over a year and save our money for groceries and gas. My heart does not bleed for these stunts by our Mayor or any other of these fly by nights trying to get publicity. They are millionaires and like the rest of the multi millionaire and billionaire celebs in this town they offer mouth when they themselves could be stocking food banks weekly for the poor and homeless who would have to come and get the allotment of food or meals. Don't believe this crap, people. Vegas is only hurting when Democrats want publicity for the "poor, homeless and illegal immigrants along with the rest of the Hispanic low income votes" .

Except for holidays and parties for my son and I we run at $250 to $300 a month. I am retired and shop around for value. We eat red meat including nice steaks, boneless pork chops, boneless skinless chicken breasts as well as home made soups and stews. I bake some of the bread and buy tons of produce. I pay for it so I watch my pennies so I can have money for some fun things in life as well.'

I no longer make 6 figures and am living off of savings and IRA withdrawals. My income gets no raise for 2 more years at least. But, I choose to retire at age 50 and have never taken welfare, food stamps or unemployment and see no reason to.

It isn't just Vegas. I see drunks/druggies/runaways with food cards here all the time. They sell the food cards..many go into the grocery store and buy food for someone who offers to give them 50 cents on the dollar…in other words, a food card holder buys a hundred dollars of food for someone who gives them 50 dollars cash when they take possession of the groceries. The same was done with food stamps for years. Store owners became rich on food stamp abuse offering 35-50 cents on the dollar for a food stamp.

The Mayor of Vegas is not homeless. She is not sleeping in a shelter or on the street. She is not a senior who found herself homeless b/c of a foreclosure or an illness without any children or family to take her in. She is not sleeping in her car.

I volunteer at a food pantry set up in my church. It breaks my heart to see a young boy come in an get whatever groceries he can carry b/c his siblings are hungry and there is no food. It breaks my heart to see seniors come in and get a few perishables b/c they have nowhere to live and can't keep food for any longer than a few days.

This whole notion of parsing out stamps for folks to exchange for food or trade is nonsense. States control this. Issuance of a "food stuffs" credit card to individuals, acceptable ONLY at grocery stores, would go a long way to eliminate fraud.

Find me anyone who thinks they've got enough money. But who on average is easier to bribe? Someone who is comfortable already or someone on food stamps? Hell food stamps and government assistance often act as a bribe already. Look at unemployment benefits. We can't hire for introductory jobs because the applicants weigh making that money for doing work against getting a little less to do nothing. The relative incentive is the issue. And I know the perks of the job with being president. But there are perks with any high level job plus the added benefit of relative anonymity. To bring those people out and into the masochistic job of running for high office, they need more than a $300,000 job and Air Force 1.

The federal government spends more of my money than I do. I challenge them to live on less of my dollars than I do.

I had two part time jobs and was a full time college student. Granted, it was a while back, but when I went shopping for the week, I bought two boxes of store brand instant oatmeal, a couple of blocks of cheese, a box of Triscuts, a gallon of milk, and some apples. Without food stamps. A lot of my friends lived (basically) the same way. If you are a healthy adult, you can get by very cheaply until you can afford better.

A vegetable garden and a chicken coop are awesome projects. I do live on some property and don't have to worry about no chicken zones. I canned quite a bit this summer. Last night I made my best chili ever and the only difference was that I used tomatoes that I canned out of our summer garden. You make alot of friends and family happy when you share your bounty of vegetables and eggs. The savings are tremendous when done right.

Someone needs to tell the mayor to get a real job. Oh, that's right she is a politician and politicians avoid REAL work almost as much as the Occupiers.
