Labor Day Special: ‘On the Waterfront’

1954: Back in the days when Hollywood allowed a diversity of political views in the films they produced. The film's director, Elia Kazan, was vilified by the Hollywood community for testifying before the House Un-American Activities Committee.

Remember GOD is NOT Spelled GOP.

Jesus the ORIGINAL Liberal and the ORIGINAL Community Organizer.

Vote GOP and the next Coal Miner or Oil Rig Worker that dies is on your hands.

Hesed   September 6th, 2010 - 3:53 am

Not unless that coal miner or oil rig worker is an immediate threat to myself or someone else's life and I'm able to intervene.

Don't progressives/liberals have any legitimate, factual arguments, beyond 'shame on you?'

RetiredSailor1   September 6th, 2010 - 4:27 am

Why does the rightwing hate people who work for a living.

RetiredSailor1   September 6th, 2010 - 4:28 am

It is time to get ready for another fight and if we lose it could be the end of America.

When I think of the GOP and Wall Street it reminds me of a line from ‘Young Guns 2’.

Tom O'Folliard: What's scum?
William H. Bonney: Well Tom, that's bad types. Politicians, bankers, cattle-kings… Scum…

Really underrated director (see the profile by Stephen Schwartz). "Babydoll" is great. His son's films are less consistent (recently) but generally good. Has anyone ever done a Haymarket Riot movie?

Evan back then too many of the actors were commies and degenerates. I think many of them just arent able to keep themselves in the real world and they force themselves to forget that someday we are accountable for our actions either for punishment or reward as GOD does keep records and only CHRIST can save us.

RetiredSailor1   September 6th, 2010 - 6:09 am

It is not liberals fault that the rightwing think REAL Americans should work for slave wages and no benefits.

childofcorn   September 6th, 2010 - 6:51 am

Unions = Communism (Workers of the World Unite)

"A quart of wheat for a day's wages"

Hesed   September 6th, 2010 - 7:36 am

Why do you have to work for other people's livings?

Many times, two or three workers can be working for the same ridiculous pay and work standards of many union workers, reducing costs to the business and decreasing the unemployed numbers.

Frankly, too many union workers are lazy, costing the jobs of those willing to work.

Not to mention the politics/power/money of those in power in the unions, their use of funds being unquestionable to the members.

nomname   September 6th, 2010 - 7:40 am

That would require thinking, and it's so much easier to 'feel"

NEOFREEDOM   September 6th, 2010 - 8:04 am

I have been a UNION BROTHER for the past 30years and this November I will be casting my VOTE for the 1ST time to the CONSERVATIVE candidate. WHY ?

Because the President of these UNITED STATES Barack Hussein Obama is leading this ONCE PROUD NATION to HELL with his policies.

NEOFREEDOM   September 6th, 2010 - 8:09 am

I have been in the UNION for 30 years Teamsters & ATU, for the FIRST time I will be casting my VOTE for the CONSERVATIVE Candidate !

WHY ?

Because President Barack Hussein Obama with his POLICIES are sending this ONCE PROUD NATION to HELL in a hand basket.

AMERICA , STAND UP AND VOTE , REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER VOTE CONSERVATIVE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SonnyB   September 6th, 2010 - 8:47 am

A great movie. And it makes you realize that nothing has changed with unions in a long time.

Let's start by legislating away public sector unions. They're the last people who need job protection.

SonnyB   September 6th, 2010 - 8:52 am

Average salary and benefits of $70K in the public sector is slave wages? I though the tradeoff for job security in the public sector was lower salaries compared to the private sector.

I guess not. It seems the leeches on the left and the pencil-pushers in government unions want to have their cake and eat it too!

Start pinching your pennies because the party's over for you parasites.

ronfromflorida   September 6th, 2010 - 8:56 am

HAHaha Very Good a great little piece of film though I am not sure how that got out of Hollywood.
Unions– Mob– Democrat Party -Mob— Unions– Democrat Party— Union— Mob Thugs– Democrat Party— that's the Chicago way and the Chicago thugs we now have in office. Obamas New stimulus plan 50 billion for Union thugs and millions kicked back to the DNC.
All the Tea Partyers pecefully assembling and making their voices heard, better toughen up because it is going to get physical.

Baloshka   September 6th, 2010 - 9:00 am

The Original Community Organizer was Boto, The Pink Dolphin God of the Upper Peruvian Amazon. He predated Geeezuz by 10,000 years. Geeeezuz borrowed his philosophy from Boto.

ronfromflorida   September 6th, 2010 - 9:02 am

There are really only 2 kinds of Democrat voters you know, the freeloader welfare classes government workers and thier dependents and the Idle rich like the Kennedy's and Kerry's who already have their money well hidden form the tax man.
Real workers in this Country are Republicans….

SunnyJ52   September 6th, 2010 - 9:42 am

"RetiredSailor1": My friend, you may have taken loyalty to a cause to the fault line. Jesus never called on individuals to collectively do anything…he always reminded us that we were individuals, with an individual responsibility to behave in a loving way, individually responsible to our relationship with God, individually responsible to "render unto Ceasar what is his and to God what is his"…also a great emphasis on never coveting that which is our neighbors. You get to have your own opinions but, you do not get to have your own facts. The same in that you do not recognize that it was democrats (like dear old Sen Robert Byrd, may he rest in peace) that comprised the KKK and workded to defeat civil rights. Unions that resisted blacks, Irish, and many other ethnicities and gender diversity. My point only that you have become so myopic in support of your opinion and loyatly to your position that you are posting crap. That's not productive, unless you're farming. I am and you're not. And I RetiredSailor 1, have a pony in my pile of horseshit.

jim1127   September 6th, 2010 - 10:30 am

The lessons in that scene are many and they don't necessarily apply to just unions. The "goons" on Wall Street who played with our money so that we got into this mess (Yes I know the Washington crowd was part of the deal) are just much goons as those union thugs in the movie.

PilgrimforHim   September 6th, 2010 - 10:59 am

RetiredSailor and anyone like'em or anyone plowing straight for a blue vote or a red vote. Neither have the corner on truth but each one finds a bit of truth to patch up a tired old idea. This election should be one where each one of us hold our candidate's feet to the fire. Period. Let's not follow our leaders blindly or ignore the unrighteous self-serving attitudes and actions they embrace. Start by seeking God on your own first. Take the log out of your eye so you can help get the speck out of your brother's eye. Jesus was not the first liberal. He was not blue or red.
Since we have so many different opinions about the cause of the problem we certainly have many opinions about the solutions. Let's turn back to our roots. Jesus said, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me….For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?" (Mark 9:34 &36)
Rep's and Dem's are both to blame for the poor leadership of the government. Shame on them. Shame on us all.

Hey dips__t! these poor lazy union members are making twice what the private employee makes. It's untenable you moron.

TipsterBL   September 6th, 2010 - 11:23 am

AMEN, but it's been going on all 30 years. Thank God Obama and his minions are so blatant about their plans.

TipsterBL   September 6th, 2010 - 11:27 am

Well said! To blame GW is to ignore the decades that tis has been going on. Started with The New Deal, then The Great Society and most recently Republicans acting like Democrats. The left has pandered to the poor and black families and torn them apart and now it's beginning to happen to everyone. They're bums, throw them out!!!

Judgedavey   September 6th, 2010 - 12:12 pm

The rightwing ARE people that work for a living. And we don't hate what we are but what you stand for; someone reaping the benefits of our labor with no labor of their own. Need assisstance, I'll help but you better be prepared to carry your own load too. Ain't no handouts for free in this life. No matter what the socialist in charge and his dainty little minions say. Want to share the wealth, share the load.

Judgedavey   September 6th, 2010 - 12:22 pm

Hey Retired Salior: The rightwing ARE people that work for a living. We just don't hate what we are (Unlike the left) but what you liberals stand for; someone reaping the benefits of our labor with no concerted effort of their own (IE ALL GOVERNMENTS AGENCYs, lifetime welfare, extended jobless benefits, just to name a few). Need assisstance, I'll help but you better be prepared to carry your own load too. Ain't no free handouts in this life, no matter what the socialist in chief and his dainty little leftest minions have to say. Want to share the wealth, share the load.

RetiredSailor1   September 6th, 2010 - 12:33 pm

The Corporations have their lobbyists and their rightwing laws that make bribery legal and the Rightwing Astroturfers hate it when Labor also has a voice at the table also.

Why do you hate people who work for a living?

RetiredSailor1   September 6th, 2010 - 12:54 pm

Well maybe you should move down south to one of those redneck states and see what it would have been like to be a working class person if McWALL-STREET had won.

RetiredSailor1   September 6th, 2010 - 1:14 pm

Got anything to prove the private sector make less than government employees? Did not thank so.

Remember I was a government employee for 20 years and I know what my civilian counter parts made and it was 2 to 3 times as much.

Look at what the Black Water Rightwing Terrorists get paid compared to what OUR TROOPS get paid.

RetiredSailor1   September 6th, 2010 - 1:24 pm

Those GOP idiots keep voting for the anti-American GOP they will eventually find their job Outsourced or In-Sourced in the name of PROFIT.

Did notice when McSAME said his campaign slogan was ‘Country First” he NEVER ONCE said what country he was talking about.

Union workers do work in the private sector. Rednecks are just jealous because they are to dumb to demand a good wage and benefits.

RetiredSailor1   September 6th, 2010 - 2:09 pm

The anti-American GOP I guess are counting on that everyone one who is unemployed was already a Democrat. Keep attacking REAL America anti-American GOP and see were that gets you.

Mytzlplyx   September 6th, 2010 - 2:21 pm

Jesus would have never advocated healthcare for all at the tip of a roman spear.

RightUnite   September 6th, 2010 - 2:29 pm

Hehehehe!

RetiredSailor1   September 6th, 2010 - 2:53 pm

That is because we have way to many in the private sector still not being paid a living wage but there are more working people than Rich Old WHITE hate filled right-wingers so we are going to get this fixed despite no matter how much the anti-American GOP try to keep America from succeeding.

We need to educate the good working folks down in the redneck states that they are entitled to make a living and live the American dream.

RetiredSailor1   September 6th, 2010 - 3:01 pm

Jesus would have DEMANDED Healthcare for ALL and the rightwing hatemonger’s would have crucified him for doing that.

Evidently you are no more than a tit dweller gaining norishment at the goverment feed-bag that has taking his retirement and done little else in life. I really feel sorry for the likes of someone that has served his country and then is so bitter that they cannot see past the end of their own snooty noses. You need to move on and do something for yourself. How do you think that the socialist like Obama can gather such growds when the spead their vile about half the members of this country: Unions/retire's/and people on the dole that don't have to work for a living and have free time whenever ther are needed for a busride. Go back and wallow in your self-pity, for you are as much a cause to the current situation as any of the others.

Mytzlplyx   September 6th, 2010 - 4:15 pm

Stop clinging to a failed ideology. It's just pathetic.

RetiredSailor1   September 6th, 2010 - 4:27 pm

Speaking of people who have no jobs and get on the bus when is the KOCH Brothers Express boarding up the Old WHITE Rightwing Astroturfers for the ride to the next GOP KKK/NAZI Rally?

Mytzlplyx   September 6th, 2010 - 4:27 pm

Capitalism not only built Woody's guitar it funded the artist as well.

Woody was a moron.  Gifted musician but a moron nonetheless.

Jesus would never, ever, have advocated for healthcare for all at the tip of a Roman spear.  Sorry, you are wrong.

nomname   September 6th, 2010 - 5:34 pm

You aren"t alone. Many union members have been secret independents for years.

nomname   September 6th, 2010 - 5:43 pm

This is what I was referring to when I posted " Johnny Friendly lives" regarding union thugs a few weeks ago and was voted down by several people. The pressure to become a union member, often using violence, and organized crime has always been a partner….LIVES!

Hesed   September 6th, 2010 - 6:44 pm

Sorry, but unions have no need to be at the table, except to exact a premium for those elites in control of the union.

They are a waste, IMO.

There is nothing in the past generation, IMO, deserving of having unions.

mellowyellowfac   September 6th, 2010 - 6:53 pm

You must excuse me as I am such an ideal log . . unless you pay everybody off this will never happen again. i.e. men in strong armor showing a sense of duty, conscience & honor unless it's . It's up to the boys in the military and men and women who don't have any sense unless they're trying for ancor babies (my hood) don't want to birth anymore . . thank you pro-choice. twas my meaning. . . badly stated at first.

RetiredSailor1   September 6th, 2010 - 7:14 pm

Why are you afraid of an even playing field?

Hesed   September 6th, 2010 - 8:02 pm

Nice union phrase. Care to define 'even playing field' or does that just mean unions should have their way or waaaaah, the playing field is uneven, as if it's a game anyway?

RetiredSailor1   September 6th, 2010 - 9:10 pm

Why are scared if labor has voice in how laws are made just like the corporatist lobbyist do.

Why do you hate Americans that work for a living?

SFYMP   September 6th, 2010 - 10:42 pm

Hesed   September 7th, 2010 - 2:33 am

Why do you assume?

Why do you regurgitate the same talking points that the unions tell you to repeat?

RetiredSailor1   September 7th, 2010 - 4:13 am

Rightwing types are REALLY SLOW so I have to repeat myself several times for them.

PaBowHunter   September 7th, 2010 - 5:04 am

Ahhh, there it is. Racism from the lefty liberal. You knew it was there, but were unsure if he would reveal it's ugly head. You say "rich old white hate filled right wingers". That is typical of a lefty liberal to generalize and prejudice entire groups of people. I thought you lefties were the caring, thoughtful, accepting, tolerant side of politics? Keep talking brother. Everytime you do, another vote swings over to the conservatives in November.

RetiredSailor1   September 7th, 2010 - 11:34 am

The GOP Old WHITE People voting base gets smaller everyday as they die off. The GOP had better start figuring out how to get non-White Voters real fast.

PaBowHunter   September 7th, 2010 - 2:19 pm

My friend only someone as ignorant as you would think that the conservative movement is solely occupied by old rich white male republicans.
Conservatism is what drives the Tea Party, which if you haven't noticed is blowing away the GOP. Conservatism is mainstream my friend. Most Americans are conservative by nature. Not by social standing, race, religion, or sexual preference for that matter. All a conservative expects from his or her fellow American is to put forth an effort to sustain themselves. And if for whatever reason they cannot, then we help more than any other country helps it's people.
Sailor, we live in the greatest society in the history of mankind. Why don't you drop all of your prejudices and jump in the big game.
