kucinich, take your merkin and go. Was it your ride on AirFarce One that got you into the mile bribe club. Are you so cheap a ride on a plane buys your vote?
You are a disgrace and a traitor to the Constitution. Target kucinich.

Wild Bill   March 17th, 2010 - 10:35 am

When I heard he was on the palace we call Air Force One, I knew he’d go all wobbly. Heh. Just another snake in D.C.

Wild Bill   March 17th, 2010 - 10:36 am

Now follow the bribe…

It will likely lead to a villa in France or a cushy ambassadorship.

The sliminess of this entire process has not only legitimized bribery as a legislative tool but it has delegitimized our republic as a whole.

Pass this at your peril…

strawman   March 17th, 2010 - 10:45 am

Maybe his constituents bombarded him with calls after Monday’s rally, telling him to support the bill. It’s a liberal district.

They don’t have a brain!!! WAKE UP AMERICA – THESE SOCIALISTS HAVE ONLY ONE THING IN MIND – TAKE THIS COUNTRY DOWN. America…Kucinich is the epitome of a liberal ’slug’!

Bilderberg Bush-Obama is a known hypocritical liar and he goes to these ’slugs’ and coerces them just like ACORN did to get him the votes in the innercity plantations!

He is not speaking for “real” Americans in Ohio…I am sure!

Ohio you know what you have to do…get rid of him! He is a traitor to “real” America!

Call/email him today and let him know how you feel!

BUT…DO NOT GO THROUGH THE GENERAL SWITCHBOARD IN WASHINGTON TO TELL THEM WHAT YOU THINK!

IT WILL BE OVERLOADED AND YOU WILL NOT GET THROUGH!

Go here instead to get the numbers/emails of your State reps:

2. At top…click on ’site index’
3. At left…click on ‘federal government’
4. In middle…click on ‘legislative’
5. Pick Senate and then put in your state
6. Pick House and then put in your state

This is the only way for you to make an impact…not the switchboard!

You piece of crap !!!! How about a discussion with the people who put you in office ??? Your a F’ing loser and another reason your azz needs to go…..My GOD Ohio, is this the best you can get? He wanted single payer and he sold us out for what ????

Mike   March 17th, 2010 - 10:53 am

Yeah, Kucinich took a ride on Air Force One and was probably “bribed” just like Mary Landreiu and Ben Nelson were and as a host of other Senators were too no doubt. Instead of him standing up for his own principles and ideals he “caves” which shows you he’s NOT a man of any ethics, honor, or resolve. He’s just another “shill” for the Obama machine and I predict Dennis Kucinich will be unemployed in the not too distant future.

workinmom   March 17th, 2010 - 10:57 am

He discussed with the president, Pelosi, his wife and friends????? Thank you Philip and pb……… I am just as outraged by that statement! What changed for this new epiphany Mr. Kucinich??? TELL US!

O'Really?   March 17th, 2010 - 10:59 am

Here is a man who weighed the pros and cons of the bill, considered them carefully, and decided to vote a certain way based on those facts. He is not happy with everything but thinks that it is better than nothing. More people, especially Republicans, should do the same thing instead of playing obstructionist politics.

He will definitely sleep better tonight, especially if he is next to that stunningly beautiful babe.

People you all know that this bill is NOT real healthcare reform, I’m for healthcare
reform myself, why haven’t any of these politicans from both parties (it’s not just the
democrats alone I’m blaming) mentioned “Tort-Reform”, by stopping lawyers/trial lawyers
from filing lawsuits against hospitals regarding junk-lawsuits, etc., and also cut down
on healthcare for illegal-aliens! Why haven’t neither the Republicans or the Democrats
have mentioned none of that? Because from the looks of it, both parties are being
lobbied for La Raza, and there are some former lawyers in both political parties, so
that’s why you haven’t heard no political offical mentioned Tort-Reform and no health
insurance for illegal-aliens (the only way illegal-aliens can get health insurance if
injuries are very serious or life-threatening, simple as that)!

Liberalism is a Mental Disorder!!!

LOL! Just think – if you had supported Ron Paul in the primaries instead of the “war for Israel” candidate McCain we wouldn’t even be HAVING this discussion. Now you are going to get the most expensive and still broken “socialism, American style” form of medicine. This is what happens when your priorities are mindless wars for foreign benefactors rather than domestic policy and foreign non-interventionism. This will be a HUGE boondoggle with Goldman Sachs getting tons of money, too! What, you didn’t know that? How about how Israel will be given the contract for the computer systems (more of the unofficial aid we give them) so they can snoop on your records and sell the info to the highest bidder like they do with the phone systems.

Well, the ball is very much in the GOP’s court, and in the TEA Party movement’s court. It’s still a bit early for the mid-terms, and extremely early to be talking about 2012. But, the next two elections are there for the taking if the GOP doesn’t repeat the mistakes of the recent past. However, thus far I am very unimpressed with the faces of the GOP, because they are the same faces we saw in 2008. If that doesn’t change, the TEA Party will be forced to form a third party in 2012,or accept another “lesser of evils” GOP POTUS / VP ticket and thereby become irrelevant.

Time will tell, but as of now, I foresee eight years of Obama. Until I see some new faces at the head of the GOP – people who are unwavering defenders of the Constitution and our founding principles – why should I expect anything different?

If it is an actual vote then he can do as he sees fit as long as he gets to suffer the consequences of his actions, limited as they might be since he’s exempted from the health care program he’ll vote for. BUT if it isn’t a clear cut vote and he supports the Slaughter Solution then I would urge his constituents to remind him that he took an oath to uphold and protect the Constitution of the United States which doesn’t have a maneuver for “deeming” a bill to have passed without a straight vote.

Oath taken by Congressional Members:

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. Isaiah 9:

16 For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.
17 Therefore the Lord shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their fatherless and widows: for every one is an hypocrite and an evildoer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
18 ¶ For wickedness burneth as the fire: it shall devour the briers and thorns, and shall kindle in the thickets of the forest, and they shall mount up like the lifting up of smoke.
19 Through the wrath of the Lord of hosts is the land darkened, and the people shall be as the fuel of the fire: no man shall spare his brother.

and then DEMAND that they VOTE NO on anything that the people responsible for this bill ever try to force on us!

THE CREATORS AND SUPPORTERS AND PROMOTERS OF THIS BILL ARE THE ENEMY OF THE AMERICAN PUBLIC, WITHIN OUR OWN GOVERNMENT!

ANYONE WHO HAS ALREADY VOTED YES FOR THIS HEALTH CARE TAKEOVER BILL SHOULD BE CHARGED WITH CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT TREASON AGAINST THE AMERICAN CITIZENS AND THE CONSTITUTION.

You people amaze me..Kucinich didn’t oppose this bill because he felt it was “unconstitutional,” he opposed it because it DIDN’T have a public option. Did you even watch this video? He was not bought out, he just decided that this bill is a small step in the right direction and to not act on it would be to let the possibility of a public option die.

I read a few of the comments on this video and let me bring some light to your comments. You say he flip-flopped. How about the republicans flip-flopping on supporting a bill that was VERY close to the one barack proposed and now saying it is a “Takeover” even tho healthcare will remain privatized except for the majority of the ppl already getting public healthcare. I can respect opposition to this bill because it is not perfect but to read the rationale for your arguments it really seems like they are uninformed and simple answers to a complex problem. Maybe listen to NPR or any though provoking establishment instead of Fox which says a lot without much substance or imperical data. Feel bad for all you with so much ignorant hate in you. For those with intellegent opposition, this is not towards you.

H2K   March 17th, 2010 - 1:13 pm

HAHAA you republitards and your ideals. Some of these comments mentioned rioting, snakes, clowns, bribes, homes in France, socialism etc etc… uh, the government has had it’s hands in socialist rule for a long time now. Most money that people get if they aren’t working didn’t come from your taxes, it came from big brother paying for it with money they get from the treasury. AND it was from your right-wing presidents.

This entire system is upside down. Everything is a big evil circle folks.

You guys are a bunch of tin foil hat wearing sheep following Glen Beck and the other racist psychopaths like him. Nobody seemed to mind us spending trillions to Dick Cheney’s companies and Bush’s cronies for a war that was not provoked or ever necessary. But when it comes to helping our own people, whoa! We can’t afford that!

Apparently none of these religio-fascist teabagger’s has a clue
what will happen to them. Hint: Your credibility is already seriously in question. What will happen to it when the world doesn’t come to an end?

Just because Barack won the election, and he’s doing what well over 60%
of the American People want, you guys are all boo hoo hoo.

The Republican’s answer to Health Care? A 50 page pamphlet, handed out by your congressional leader Eric Cantor.

Rather than getting mad at the competition, you guys should be placing the blame, where the blame belongs, at the feet of the leaders of the Republican Party.

Spend your energy helping the country, instead of trying to drag us down further in a childish fit of pique. I mean really. Talk about sore losers.

It should be a source of embarrassment that out of 191 countries ranked on things like the number of years people lived in good health and whether everyone had access to good health care. France came in first. The United States ranked 37th.

The individual mandate was originally a Republican idea.
Is the Bill now being debated perfect? No it’s not with the lack of a public option it still is to much of a give away to the private insurance companies, that’s why Kucinich and a lot of other progressives were against it.
But there are a lot of good things in the Bill.Read it instead of letting Faux Noise and others scare you and tell you a lot of stuff that’s not in it.
The real reason Republicans don’t want this bill to pass is Presidents since Theodore Roosevelt’s third-party run in 1912,Presidents have proposed or actually pushed for a comprehensive set of health care benefits for every citizen in the country. All of them fail to do so.
And the Republicans sure as hell don’t want this historic president to pass this historic bill.

@brockstar…you are an idiot. you should have some evidence before you throw things like “racist” around. but that is your ideological m.o. you and your lib butt-buddies will spend money that isn’t there, make claims that lack substantiation (that means proof, sorry if i confused you), and bring up bush’s spending…despite the fact that your messiah is spending >24X the amount in 1+ year that bush spent IN 8 YEARS.

Jim   March 17th, 2010 - 1:52 pm

If the vast majority of the comments I have just read represent the ‘American Public’, then heaven help us. Most of what’s on here represents a blind allegiance to the naysayers and the radical right talk shows featuring money grubbing fanatics. I have read NOTHING above which makes the least bit of sense or which represents a view point other than NO. Can you do nothing except complain? It is as I feared. A president elected to make changes proceeds to do just that and the fear-mongers among us (all of whom are self serving money grubbers) are the loudest voices to be heard. Get real. I hope when your parents and grandparents lose their social security and their medicare (government run socialistic programs) you have as much to say! The last president and congress tried to do just that by trying to make them dependant on the recently crashed stock market and by producing prescription coverage that costs immense amounts in payoffs to the drug companies. Maybe you’ll all get your wish and the people who produced our current economic situation will come back to power! At least then I’ll be able to say ‘I told you so’ once again! Lord knows I was able to say that enough times in the last 8 years preceeding the current administration!

If we do not have Universal Health Coverage by the end of this decade, we will likely have none at all. It’s all there, just do the research, use your brain power, and figure it out!!

Attention Neo-con Retards! Kucinich is a LIBERAL. He wasn’t on “YOUR SIDE” when he was voting against the bill. He was voting against it because it was too CONSERVATIVE. Now you’re lambasting him for voting Yes on the more conservative bill. Basically he’s more on your side NOW than he was. But you don’t really care about that. All you care about is getting your way. You neo-con puppets will lie and spread disinformation to fight for your corporate masters. None of you have any morals or ethics. You’d line up behind Satan himself if he said that he was going to end big spending and defend America. You won’t vote for Mitt Romney because he’s a mormon, but you’ll spout anything that Glen Beck (a mormon) says. You don’t really believe in anything, you’re just puppets.

Lindsay Graham, John McCain, Olympia Snowe, Arlen Specter, Dennis Kucinich and the list goes on and on. This is the same list you can use to vote against during their “license to lie” renewal! All incumbents need to free themselves up for other opportunities at Wal-Mart and Starbucks!

Yeah Right   March 17th, 2010 - 2:03 pm

And by major overhaul, we liberals intend to make everything worse
than it was before, since that is how we do things, since we are essentially
unwise and just plain evil.

H2K   March 17th, 2010 - 2:05 pm

Yeah Right>, perhaps you could spend a few minutes looking at those statistics you are quoting, rather than draw your conclusions from the liberal drones that feed you.
When the WHO ranked countries with respect to healthcare, one of the criteria was a public government option. Since we don’t have a public government option, we were ranked lower. Maybe these stats will help:
1) Almost all medical innovation comes from the US. Why? Because up to this point, we have been a relatively free economy where people are motivated by profit to provide a service. Profit drives innovation.
2) When you look at serious health issues – cancer, heart aliments, etc, the US survivability rates far surpass the countries with public programs.
3) The Canadian Premier came to the US for his heart treatment
4) The UK hospital system is in shambles with stories of filth, neglect, and mistreatment of patients.
5) The waiting lists are huge in countries with government run health. You may wait a year for treatment and suffer in the meantime. Why? Because government controls the costs which reduces supply and increases demand. Simple economics.

Have fun not understanding these simple economic concepts. While you’re at it, blast FoxNews, Beck, Hannity, Rush, and others from your “liberal drone” handbook.

kmichaels   March 17th, 2010 - 2:07 pm

Obama simply pointe out that he would add single payer later, which has always been his plan
then, for good measure, he gave Kucinich a reasonably large sized bribe, one which we will
find out about later.

Liberals are mentally diseased and if you try too hard to figure out their motivations you will
just end up with a huge headache.

The bottom line in all of this is that more and more real American voices will be heard and we
will simply vote out the leftists once and for all and reverse their idiotic damage as quickly
as possible.

kmichaels   March 17th, 2010 - 2:11 pm

On a side note, why are liberal posters always sounding to incoherently stupid and misinformed on every key issue?
Is it just part of the liberal mindset to not have brains enough to draw logical conclusions? Or are you so evil that
you lie even when you don’t need to?

Craig   March 17th, 2010 - 2:16 pm

Whats is wrong with you people?? The rest of the world stands in awe of how stupid people in the United States can be, resisting change to a healthcare system that by any measure is a joke. It’s true the US has some of best health care money can buy, if you can afford it. What logic exists for opposing change to such an inequitable and inefficient system, that puts the interests of powerful and obscenely wealthy private healthcare companies before the interests of the American people?? It is simply beyond comprehension how sections of the American people are so extreme in their opposition to making healthcare more accessible and affordable to ALL Americans. Amazing how, yet again, ideology trumps reason and logic. Well done. While you are at it, why dont you privatise the Police and Fire Departments. And Libraries. Private Enterprise Good. Government Bad!

UseBrainNotRage   March 17th, 2010 - 2:22 pm

Just an opinion, take it or ignore it.
Government has grown too big (Republican/Democrat/Independent), doing over means never doing, bureaucracy will delay everything to a crawl. Heath care is an issue that needs to be addressed, unless you want your sick son/grandson to deal with it when they grow old. Where there is difference in interests there is disagreements. I don’t like some of the pork that’s in the bill, but it beats not doing anything. What we are choosing here is something that can benefit both the people and greedy snobs. Passing the health care package will bring an entry point to change in how this area is regulated. All the anger and shouting going on now is mostly promoted by lobbyists or people in there best interest to gain from not passing the health care bill. Let me put this in simpler terms, Rich people want to make the poor much poorer, that is a know fact. Try thinking from two different views and you’ll understand.

“Maybe listen to NPR or any though provoking establishment instead of Fox which says a lot without much substance or imperical data.”

NPR, or as it is sometimes called, “National Politburo Radio” or National Partisan Radio”, is a notoriously left-leaning news source, just as Fox News is clearly biased toward neoconservatives. One needs to follow the money when discussing such things, and here’s just one link that does a fairly good job of doing that in relation to NPR.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2419777/posts

Is NPR thought-provoking? Yes. Will you hear stories there that you will likely not hear elsewhere in mainstream news media, presented in a civil manner? Yes. But will you get unbiased reporting, editing, and commentary? Absolutely, unequivocally, NO.

I know of no unbiased news source anywhere, with the possible exception of CSPAN.

Respectfully submitted.

“obama just might have ruined the possibilities for any future black person to become presidnet for a very long time. Many will unfairly link his behavior to other Blacks and will not vote for another black person.”

Plausible, since most Americans today, myself included, are racists, and many, unlike myself, are hate-filled bigots. However, many, if not a majority of the racial bigotry we see nowadays coms from the political left. So, I still believe that a center-right candidate, or in this political climate, a true traditional conservative, could possibly be electable regardless of his or her race. Someone in the mold of a Clarence Thomas or a Thomas Sowell might still be electable, in my opinion. However, another black, far left socialist like Obama may be out of the picture for the foreseeable future. We’ll know in 2012.

The problem, of course, is that black Americans tend to vote almost monolithically socialist. So, given Obama’s track record, a future black President might only be electable if he or she were selected from that tiny sliver of the black population who did NOT support Obama in 2008. In short, I still suspect that Obama’s positions on issues still matter far more to most voters than does his race.

Clearly you have no idea what you’re talking about.

Kucinich was holding out because this bill didn’t do *enough* for the American people. And he was right. If you’re so scared of a Socialist agenda, then be glad he’s voting for it now. You’ll sure be glad the was bill passed when your obesity and type-2 diabetes flare up, and your cancer and other health problems stemming from your shameful diet and lifestyle threaten you with an early grave. At least then your insurance won’t be able to kick you off the rolls. Unless of course you’d rather die, in which case, please do.

Of course obama told kuchi to vote for this cause it can Never be reversed, by their calculation(maybe right). “We can only make it bigger and bigger”….^(*%(*., public option to follow, a given. This tips the scale where from this point forward more dependent on Feds than not…so bigger gov’t and more spending will always be supported by the public. Game over, folks.

additionally, it is not a quarrel with insurance companies that is the problem.
it is the proposal obama wants passed that is the problem. we never said we do not want a reformed package but what obama has on the table is a blatent moneygrap to put into the pockets of a selective few while all america pays through the nose. sure it sounds like free but it is anything but free.

Every single day that I am alive I am “blown away” by the lack of integrity that I see in many (if not most) of our elected officials!!! Many people will speculate on what Obama “did” to or for Kucinich to get his vote.

Even though I do want to know what happened, what bothers me the most is this.

This IDIOT, just spent nine minutes telling us basically how he was unsuccessful in impacting this bill with his own ideas/beliefs. He then said: “This is not the bill I wanted to support”, then admitted to the American people that he was casting a Yes vote.

Does anyone wonder why the American people think that our Congressmen and Women are either just stupid or unethical. These can be the only two reasons for what Kucinich just did.

Blindfire March 17th, 2010 – 5:24 pm

“One day you so-called “revolutionaries” will understand that a democratic government is designed to take care of the things that we value THAT DON’T MAKE A PROFIT.”

Actually, no. I hate to break it to you this way, but you have been deceived, and we revolutionaries understand far more than you give us credit for. First, democracy is a system of government, not an economic system, and is therefore not concerned with profit. A democratic government is defined, most simply, as majority rule. It is the doctrine that the numerical majority of an organized group can make decisions binding on the whole group. It is NOT as you state, “designed to take care of things that don’t make a profit”. Democracy has nothing to do with profit, nor compassion. It is simply majority rule. Moreover, the United States is NOT a Democracy. We neverwere, and we were in fact designed with safeguards in place to never become a democracy. The founders of our country knew that democracies cannot last.

We are a Constitutional Republic, meaning that the Constitution is the supreme law of the land, not the whims of the majority. We the People, under Constitutional guidelines, elect representatives to preserve, protect and execute said Constitution.

Consider the Oath of Office:

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.”

There is no mention here of democracy, nor of “the will of the People”, nor of “taking care of things that don’t make a profit”.

“INSURING POOR, SICK, & ELDERLY AMERICANS IS NOT A PROFITABLE VENTURE AND WILL NEVER BE. Are you really comfortable watching the rich milk every last bit of profit from the poor? Do you really want your children and grandchildren living in a society where only the privileged have access to health care?”

You are under the false impression that those of us who are opposed to the current health care legislation, do so out of greed, ignorance, and hatred of those less fortunate. The exact opposite is true. I am not a Republican, but it should be noted here that the “Bible Belt” states are consistently the most generous when it comes to giving to charity. These are overwhelmingly the “Red”, Republican states.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2005-11-20-national-giving_x.htm
When you consider that this legislation is not supported by ONE SINGLE REPUBLICAN IN EITHER HOUSE OF CONGRESS, it makes me question just how generous this legislation truly is.
Conservatives and Constitutionalists are not evil, greedy hate-mongers as you imply. We simply know that, of what we know about the legislation, (we’re told we’ll learn what’s in it after it’s passed), it is clear that it will not deliver as promised. And we also know that it is wholly incompatible with our Constitution and our founding principles, and that it therefore must be stopped.

I hope you’ll reconsider your position, and stop the class warfare and wealth envy. It only serves to diminish you, and does nothing to help the ones you profess to support. Defend the Constitution, and you’ll be defending those who need help the most in the long run.

Respectfully submitted.

“So all of you who are against health care reform are totally ok with the health insurance companies making BILLIONS of dollars in profit every year while they continue to deny coverage and limit benefits? All so some ceo and his cronies can live high on the hog while people suffer?”

Your statement presumes that those of us who oppose this legislation specifically, oppose health care reform generally, which is, of course, false. If the Democrats would stop this juggernaut, and instead work to pass specific elements of health care reform that people can agree on, they would not find themselves holding the bag full of, corrupted, unconstitutional and 100 percent partisan crap they hold now.

“Seems to me the death panels are the insurance companies when they decide that necessary treatment is just not conducive to their huge profits. Oh yeah, that’s right, this is all about capitalism and making a profit, even though it means putting a price on a person’s life.”

You presume that the government will also work to preserve everyone’s life, regardless of cost. It is a mistaken assumption, because whether it’s publicly funded or privately, the sky is not the limit.

You, like many misguided socialists, believe that those who oppose this legislation do so due to their unmitigated greed. And you are simply wrong.

sounds like you listen to obamamedia exclusively.
obama is not interested in helping americans if he did he would have addressed TORT the main cause of the increases in healthcare.
additionally, it is not a quarrel with insurance companies that is the problem.
it is the proposal obama wants passed that is the problem. we never said we do not want a reformed package but what obama has on the table is a blatent moneygrap to put into the pockets of a selective few while all america pays through the nose. sure it sounds like free but it is anything but free.
this bill involves giving away money to obama’s friends.

What exactly is a “moneygrap?” If you wish to make a point maybe you should learn how to proofread. My friend, it is a FACT that the health insurance companies make BILLIONS, not an opinion. Seems to me that the way the system is now it puts money into the pockets of a select few: the insurance companies. Yes, TORT reform is a piece of the puzzle but it is surely not the cure-all here. No one, including the president, has said that this is free, but if we sit idly by and bicker back and forth no one but the insurance companies will win.

Most major U.S. Health Benefit Providers return a very high percentage of collected premiums to their members. And, at the end of each year make a very small profit margin. Wellpoint, one of the largest Health Benefit Providers, (that Congress decided to “make an example of”) in FY08 returned 75% of each dollar to cover health benefits. Wellpoints profit of $2.4B, while a target of anti-capitalists was only 4% of revenues. And OMG, they paid 42,000 employees paychecks every month and supported countless vendors and their employees. What a discraceful organization Wellpoint is!

And by the way for you anti-capitalist business illiterates. The profit that a business makes gets invested back in the business to ensure long term financial stength of the company. But then, I guess GSE’s don’t have to concern themselves with minor details

Their is NO POSSIBLE WAY that the U.S. governement can match this type of fiscally efficient health benefits delivery. And without a profit/loss scenario health care costs will continue to skyrocket.

God help the USA if we end up with a single-payer system run by GSE’s!

See Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac for more details.

I don’t know why trying to allow the government to limit the power of insurance companies is unpatriotic. I wish there was a public option, that seems to me like the best way to ensure that insurance companies can’t charge a fortune and then not deliver when someone needs coverage.

Medicare seems to work, and Hawaii and Vermont have state-run health care that they seem to like. The only reason people are angry about healthcare being affected by the current government is because they listen to Glen Beck and Rush Limbaugh and are too lazy to ever challenge themselves. Learn to read the newspaper, learn to watch news that is not saturated by FOX’s opinion.

FOX is the Republican party and you should only support it if you are wealthy and selfish.

It is troubling that the party associated more strongly with Christianity is the Republican party. To side against helping the sick and the poor is un-christian. Hello Fellow Americans: Here’s a question for Kuninich, “What did the President or anyone else promise you for your Yes vote?” I wish the MSM would pick up on this and will ask this simple, yet hard to ask question. America, stand up and help protect the Constitution. Call and or write to your Congressmen and Congresswomen to tell them America does not want a health care bill that has to be negotiated behind closed doors, and that has to be rammed down the throats of the Americans who work and pay taxes. America help our Constitution stay pure. Help keep America home of the free and the brave, not the sheep, and the meek. Congress needs to reform health care, but not at the costs they plan on voting on. We do not need to bankrupt America. We need reform, not the “do it or else” type mentality. We need reform that will cut or contain costs. We need reform that will limit unjust lawsuits, (Tort) reform, and we need the ability to seek insurance coverage across state, and maybe even country lines. If big companies can cut the costs because of volume, then individuals should be able to group up to get the same type of discounts. What is happening in Congress now is reckless and UN-American. We need reform not a deformed bill. Bring the debate back to the people. Bring the common sense to Congress, for it is evident they have forgotton who they represent. God Bless our Troops, God Bless America. Sincerely Joe American 1776.

The Kuke won’t be completely happy until everyone pays a 100% tax on their income in order to get free health care provided by medical school drop-outs making union wages. But he’s smart enough to know that while Obamacare isn’t his idea of perfection now, it eventually will be.

@ Alex March 17th, 2010 – 10:51 pm

“I have never seen such ignorance contained in comments as such on this website. Socialist? are you kidding me? Get back to earth and realize this isn’t socialism.”

You delude yourself by believing that this legislation does not contain elements of socialism. Obama himself states that the transition to single payer will be made in increments. This is only the first step.

Look at the legislation:
1. INDIVIDUAL MANDATORY HEALTH CARE INSURANCE
If this isn’t social interventionism, then nothing is. YOu have no right whatsoever to have your government thugs force me to purchase the services of others at the tip of a government bayonet. It is blatantly unconstitutional, draconian and immoral. Constitutionalists will never comply, and you had better BACK OFF.

2. EMPLOYER MANDATORY HEALTH CARE
This is state control of capital within the framework of a market economy, which is the very definition of Reformist Socialism.

3. INSURANCE EXCHANGES
These constitute an unfunded Federal mandate, which will increase taxes and debt at the state level. I question whether it is Constitutional for the Federal government to require states to create, operate and fund such exchanges. The courts will no doubt be busy determining the legality of this portion of Obama Care. Moreover, the exchanges will likely result in HIGHER COSTS, according to the CBO. For approximately 57% of the people, these higher costs will be subsidized by seizing wealth from their fellow citizens, and from their children and grandchildren, at gunpoint.
http://www.commonwealthfund.org/Content/Newsletters/Washington-Health-Policy-in-Review/2009/Dec/December-7-2009/CBO-Looks-at-Senates-Health-Insurance-Exchange.aspx

4. SUBSIDIES FOR THOSE UP TO 400% OF POVERTY LEVEL
“During the higher phase of communism, the standard shall be “from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.”
~ Karl Marx
One question I have, is what happens to the person making 375% of the poverty level, who has the opportunity to better himself to 410% of the poverty level, and perhaps consider starting a business or hiring an employee? Faced with the prospect of losing his subsidized health care, and progressive taxation, what choice do you think he’ll make? SOCIALISM STIFLES PRODUCTIVITY. SOCIALISM KILLS MOTIVATION!

5. MEDICAID EXPANSION
Socialism expansion. Oh, and Medicaid is BROKE.

6. NO LIFETIME LIMITS OR BENEFIT CAPS
Thereby forcing loss onto the private insurer, and guaranteeing higher premiums, fewer insurers, or both. Social interventionism.

7. MANDATORY COVERAGE FOR PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS
The equivalent of calling from the scene of the accident to purchase collision coverage for your car, and forcing the insurer to write the policy – and the big fat check. Guarantees higher premiums, fewer insurers, or both. This is social interventionism.

8. INCREASED TAXES
The Senate Bill funds it’s madness by taxing so-called “Cadillac” plans, while protecting those plans held by many union members. They also plan to fund it by adding a 10% tax on indoor tanning. Do you believe for an instant that this program will not be underfunded? This behemoth will only add to the already unsustainable deficit and national debt. It will be funded by forcibly seizing the wealth of citizens and redistributing it to those who did not earn it. That is socialism.

9. ABORTION FUNDING
Morally wrong, for obvious reasons.

This legislation is, without a doubt socialism. It most certainly is not free market capitalism when a regime requires it’s subjects to purchase insurance coverage or face penalties, or ultimately seizure of property and imprisonment. That portion of the legislation is blatantly unconstitutional.

You assert that “the people will fight for a public option and the people will win… Watch”. I hope you are wrong, because if you succeed, then Constitutionalists and conservatives will be forced to do what we must to preserve our Republic.

As many others have noticed. Rupert Mudrock and his partisan hack machine News Corporation have so mis-informed and marketed the Corporatist agenda that a portion of our society is living in a reality made just for them.

They’ve learned that feeding people what they want to hear works. It works in the Corporate Boardroom, it works in Congress, it works on the Mainstreet of America.

The fundamental problem is very simple. Conservatives are convinced Liberals believe everything they see in the “liberal media”, because they believe everything in the Conservative Media.

The fact of the matter is, most liberals don’t believe Corporate Media (CNN, ABC, FOX, etc), because it’s a proven fact they peddle nothing but simple Corporate Propaganda and have no interest in educating anyone on matters of importance to the American People.

Corporate Media serves Corporate Interests. They use the airwaves owned by the American Public to manipulate the american populace into believing whatever they want. They are no longer a public service, they are not doing things to benefit the country, only to benefit their Corporate sponsors.

Public television, that used to be an independent voice, is now largely under the control of the same corporations that own the Corporate Networks.

It has been this way for a long time, and the media consolidation rules changed under the Bush Administration, completed the process. In fact we PAY to have this propaganda delivered to our homes in HD!?!?!

When we start learning to think for ourselves, rather than listening to a particular viewpoint, not because it’s wrong or right, but because we’re “comfortable with it” we might get somewhere.

Givemeabreak   March 18th, 2010 - 12:14 pm

It is really interesting to read how people are so appalled by this so called “socialist” health care bill. Yet no one is up in arms about all of the other “socialist” programs that our government provides. In 2009, $944 billion was spent on “social” security, $408 billion on medicare, $224 billion on medicaid and state children’s health insurance program, and another $360 billion on welfare, unemployment, and other mandatory spending. Roughly half of government spending goes to these “socialist” programs which totals almost $2 trillion dollars. So anyone who says that the U.S. is not socialist in some way has their head way up their butt. And another thing, most states require drivers to carry car insurance. How is mandatory health care insurance any different? As to those who are crying about Obama wanting to redistribute wealth: what do you think taxing people does? Under Bush, the gap between the rich and the poor grew to the largest amount it has ever been. The system is inherently stacked in favor of the rich. If things were more fairly distributed there would be no need to worry about socialism at all, but the way our system is now the inevitable consequence is socialism.

Mr. Bill   March 18th, 2010 - 12:39 pm

In 2009, $944 billion was spent on “social” security, $408 billion on medicare, $224 billion on medicaid and state children’s health insurance program, and another $360 billion on welfare, unemployment…”

With respect, Your statement is inaccurate. I for one, am “up in arms” over all the programs you list. That is to say, I oppose them, probably on the state level, but most certainly on the Federal level. I support a gradual phase-out of all the Federal programs you mention. Oh, and those programs aren’t “mandatory”. Our country prospered greatly for decades without them. They are discretionary.

“Roughly half of government spending goes to these “socialist” programs which totals almost $2 trillion dollars. So anyone who says that the U.S. is not socialist in some way has their head way up their butt.”
I agree. And it’s beyond time to begin the healing process, restore COnstitutional order, and begin to phase these programs out.

“And another thing, most states require drivers to carry car insurance. How is mandatory health care insurance any different? ”

It’s different in several of important ways. First, Democrat Care is at the Federal level, not the state, so it is in direct violation of the Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. Moreover, it is an unfunded Federal mandate directed at the states.

Second, citizens can opt out of mandatory auto insurance. They can do so by moving to a state that does not require it; or by opting for a surety bond which would negate the requirement for insurance; or by choosing not to drive. Under DemocratCare, if you are an American citizen, you are forced to comply, at the tip of a government bayonet. That means if it passes Sunday, as predicted, a baby born in America on Monday is born into a form of bondage.

Thirdly, access to subsidized coverage under Democrat Care is income based, and funded by other citizens. As Karl Marx put it, “during the higher phase of communism, the standard shall be ‘from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.’ ”

There are other difference as well, but the ones listed are more than sufficient to compel defenders of our Constitution to oppose this intolerable act known as Democrat Care. If you support Democrat Care, you are an enemy of the Constitution and the founding principles of this country. You cannot be a supporter of both.

“As to those who are crying about Obama wanting to redistribute wealth: what do you think taxing people does? ”
Under the model intended by the Founders, spending at the Federal level was intended to be strictly limited to those debts directly provided for in our Constitution. Beginning with the New Deal, our country lost her way, and now the bills are piling up faster than we can pay. Our founders knew this, tried to construct our system to prevent it, and repeatedly warned us against letting it happen.

“Under Bush, the gap between the rich and the poor grew to the largest amount it has ever been. The system is inherently stacked in favor of the rich. If things were more fairly distributed there would be no need to worry about socialism at all, but the way our system is now the inevitable consequence is socialism.”
Bush was not a Constitutionalist, and he was not a fiscal conservative. He was part of the problem. Obama et al, was elected to reverse the course set by Bush & CO. However, he has instead made things far, far worse, and continues to do so today. The remedy for social interventionism is not more of the same.

Socialism may be inevitable, as you assert. Time will tell. But the complete dismantling of our Constitutional Republic must occur first, because the “fair distribution” you refer to, i.e., marxism, and our Constitution and founding principles are wholly incompatible. Each is designed to destroy the other. That is why we see such a bitter partisan divide in our country today. Two diametrically opposed ideologies are fighting for the American nation. But know this: There are tens of millions of us in this country who will see this country remain a Constitutional Republic, or die in an effort to preserve it against socialism, communism and fascism.

With respect, your statement is inaccurate. Those programs are listed under “mandatory” spending in government reports. Another thing, citizens cannot opt out of mandatory auto insurance. Move to another state? Wow that is practical. Give up driving? Even more practical. Our founders knew jack about the world we live in and to presume that you “know” what they thought is pretentious. Yes, we are trending ever more towards socialism. As classes disappear we will be left with the haves and the have nots, exactly what Marx warned would be the precursor towards socialism. So you would do away with all these social programs? When it is time for you to retire I assume that you will happily and readily send your social security check back? Your threats are rather idle, that you and tens of millions will “see this country remain a constitutional republic, or die in an effort to…” That will be the day. The masses are nothing more than pawns and sleepwalkers, rather incapable of thinking for themselves. They would rather watch reality television all day than actually lift a book and think for themselves. You seem like you have some intelligence, but you are just as radical as those you are against.

@ Givemeabreak March 18th, 2010 – 1:19 pm

“With respect, your statement is inaccurate. Those programs are listed under “mandatory” spending in government reports.”
OK. I see where you’re coming from. I was thinking literally, while you were coming at it from the political perspective. You’re right that those entitlements are considered “mandatory”, in the sense that we’ve made them so. We’ve made the promise, and many are now dependent upon that system, and so now we must try to keep that promise. I was looking at it from the broader historical perspective, and making the point that the programs are not mandatory from a Constitutional perspective, and hence, they are not mentioned anywhere therein, and didn’t exist until 150 or so years after the founding of the Republic. I’m sorry that wasn’t clear from my statement.

“Another thing, citizens cannot opt out of mandatory auto insurance.”
Yes, they can, and do, as I described in my post. My statement is demonstrably factual.

“Move to another state? Wow that is practical.”
Don’t attempt to bullshit me, or the other people on this forum by suggesting that I support moving to another state to avoid mandatory auto insurance. I never said that. Let’s cut the crap, and have a constructive conversation, or please don’t waste my time. I simply challenged, specifically, accurately and concisely, your false assertion that Democrat Care was no different than state-level mandatory auto insurance. I pointed out that there are differences, and gave specific examples. And that is one of the examples. I never stated or implied that it was practical. In most cases, it probably is not. Also, do not construe my argument to imply that I support or oppose mandatory auto insurance. I have made no statement one way or the other in that regard. My position on that issue is not relevant to your original post, so I have withheld my opinion on it.

“Give up driving? Even more practical.”
Again, it’s not a practical option for many people, but it is an option. And for some – people with poor driving records, costly high risk insurance and with access to more affordable means of transportation for instance – it may be an option. Under Democrat Care, THERE IS NO OPTION EXCEPT FINES, LOSS OF PROPERTY, AND ULTIMATELY IMPRISONMENT for non-payment of taxes. And that is a clear, definite difference between mandatory car insurance and Democrat Care.

“Our founders knew jack about the world we live in…”
That’s a matter of opinion. I believe they knew more about human nature, politics, and governments than most Americans today will ever know. Especially those “pawns” and “sleepwalkers” to whom you refer in the latter part of your post.

“…and to presume that you “know” what they thought is pretentious.”
I make no presumption that I “know” all the thoughts of all the founders on all issues. For you to call me pretentious is simply a diversionary tactic on your part to make my personality the subject of our debate, instead of our position on the topic of our discussion – socialized health care. If that’s the best you can do by way of debate, then you disappoint me, but frankly, you don’t surprise me. Nonetheless, we do know a great deal about what the Founders thought about to many issues relative to governments, the governed, and how democracies fail. We know what they thought about these things, not because we’re psychic, but because they were very prolific writers, and their writings still survive for all of us to read and study today. It’s all there in black and white for you and I to see. And to their credit, much of it is written, often purposefully, in plain language.

“Yes, we are trending ever more towards socialism. As classes disappear we will be left with the haves and the have nots, exactly what Marx warned would be the precursor towards socialism.”
I’m not sure how you can argue on one hand, that “classes are disappearing”, and on the other that the gulf between rich and poor continues to expand. Unless you refer to the shrinking middle class. I’m also not sure that Marx “warned” of the precursors of socialism, as much as he simply predicted it, thought it was a natural progression of things, and was hence neither opposed nor in favor of it. I will admit to not being a complete expert on Marx, however. I have read some of his works, but not all. What is certain to me, however, that generally speaking, the mass redistribution of wealth, and the socialist interventionism we have today at the Federal level is anti-Constitutional, and would be considered by our Founders to be abhorrent and tyrannical.

“So you would do away with all these social programs?”
Absolutely. One caveat, however, I would do it in a slow, responsible manner, to allow people who have become directly, or indirectly, dependent upon these institutions to adjust. And that would include most of us.

“When it is time for you to retire I assume that you will happily and readily send your social security check back?”
That’s a weak effort to paint me as a hypocrite, and it won’t work. If that’s the best argument you have, you really should try harder. No, I won’t send my check back. I, or rather, we, are forced to pay into the system. So, if the decision is made, in spite of my best efforts, to keep the socialist system intact, and to keep stealing our wealth at gunpoint to fund it, I will try to take back out whatever portion that I contributed when I am so entitled. Common sense dictates as much. The alternative is for my government to steal my money, but then when the opportunity arises to legally collect a portion of it back, I tell the thieves who took it to keep it, because I oppose the idea of them having taken it the first place. That’s absurd, and for you to call me less than intellectually honest for not taking such a position is absurd as well. If our government were to announce a gradual phase-out of social security at some specific future date, and that I would either no longer be eligible, (or would be eligible for less), but that taxpayers would be given tax relief once the promise had been kept and the national debt is repaid, I would wholeheartedly support the measure.

“Your threats are rather idle, that you and tens of millions will “see this country remain a constitutional republic, or die in an effort to…” That will be the day. The masses are nothing more than pawns and sleepwalkers, rather incapable of thinking for themselves. They would rather watch reality television all day than actually lift a book and think for themselves.

Time will tell if my “threats” are idle nor not. You’ll notice that my estimate of tens of millions accounts for only a percentage of the 307 million Americans, so please don’t presume that I consider the majority of our people to be determined Constitutionalists. I am under no such illusion.

“You seem like you have some intelligence,…”
I do have better than average intelligence. Thanks for noticing.

“…but you are just as radical as those you are against.”
Perhaps. I would certainly like to think that I am at least equally as passionate about freedom and liberty as my foes are about the false sense of “equality” and “fairness” that comes with global collectivism.

Another very important point that you need to understand is that we Patriots have nowhere else to go, while you socialists have much of the globe at your disposal. There are countries around the world where you can go and live under a socialist, communist, or fascist system. However, for us, there are no new frontiers for us to go our own way in peace and form a new Constitutional Republic. We must make our stand here, if we are to maker it at all. That fact, and the increasing brazenness of the political left force Patriots to make tough decisions. You’ve got us surrounded, but I pity you, not us.

If you consider me radical, that’s acceptable to me, as long as you consider me to be honest. I speak the truth, or at least my thoughtful opinion. Then I let people’s opinions of me fall where they may.

The only person on here who seems to have done much research on the anti-healthcare side is the “TR8TRS” guy. The rest seem like Fox’s zombies.

I support healthcare reform. I believe that you can still “earn your own” and just deal with the fact that the government is taking some of your money to help someone else stay healthy. Personally, I’d rather have that than an increase in the gap between the income classes in this country, and the associated crime and strife that comes with that.

Secondly, while healthcare may increase the government deficit, it may not be as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Take this scenario, for example: A person with a serious medical issue goes to a hospital and receives treatment, but they are uninsured. The uninsured are often charged more than the insured, because the insurance companies work to limit what their customers can be charged. The service they receive is expensive, and they go bankrupt. In a bankruptcy, whatever money a business doesn’t recover is usually written off in taxes, and so the government loses money, increasing the federal deficit. This seems to make sense to me.

Thirdly, I’m all for helping out my fellow man. I know that I am good enough at life that I will always be able to make it on my own. Because I’m not worried for myself, I have no problem giving an extra couple hundred dollars to the government, provided they use it to help poor people get healthcare, and not go to war because Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld want to further their pet project, “The Project for the New American Century”, which existed before they took office, and is basically the whole reason (aside from giving money to Halliburton and other Corporate contractors in the reconstruction) why they went to Iraq.

Right now, despite everything, our country is still pretty sweet. I don’t think we need to make the next century into an “American” one, I’m fine with just being the best country in the world and not trying to police other nations, especially when we have more than enough problems here at home. I think that in a country as wealthy as ours, we can all afford to pay a little more so that everyone can be healthy.

Also, FYI, I am currently insured, I have low premiums, and great coverage, making me a minority in America. However, I realize that I don’t need 500-1000 dollars a year as much as the sick and poor do. So I can’t get two PS3’s, or I have to plan a bit to invest the maximum into my retirement fund, big deal. Someone else gets to live.

HenryJ March 19th, 2010 – 1:49 am

“I would like to know what your ideal U.S.A. would look like?”

Sorry for the delay. I was away all day on business.

Your question is far, far too broad to adequately answer in this forum. I can only begin to summarize. Here’s my best attempt to do so. Let me begin by saying that I am a Constitutionalist, (as it is today amended) in the strictest sense. I also reject the popular notion in this country that global socialism is inevitable. It is not too much to ask that one piece of real estate on this planet be reserved for those of us who believe as I do, where we can be allowed to Live Free or Die, so long as we are not directly harming their fellow countrymen, nor anyone else’s countrymen. And the United State of America, or a portion of it, must be that piece of real estate.

It matters not to me if the theme song of the rest of the entire world becomes John Lennon’s “Imagine”; or if they choose theocracy; or if they wish to bow to a dictator or a king. These things are totally contrary to my philosophy, and my countrymen have no right to force me to adopt their global philosophy at the tip of a government bayonet. People who believe as I do have a right to create and preserve our non-interventionist Constitutional Republic, with free markets, strictly limited and minimalist central government, abundant personal liberties, and vigilantly protected private property rights, which are guaranteed by a well armed, well educated, and well informed general populace. We have a culture, and it is the American culture, not a global culture. We have a right to preserve that culture.

I believe, in “Live and Let Live”, in the sense that I support a non-interventionist foreign policy, along the lines of what George Washington described in his farewell address:

“The great rule of conduct for us in regard to foreign nations is in extending our commercial relations, to have with them as little political connection as possible. So far as we have already formed engagements, let them be fulfilled with perfect good faith. Here let us stop.”

My America would adhere to this philosophy, and those leaders who did not would be impeached and removed. Those who resisted would be led to the cell or to the gallows. We would surely make ourselves more prosperous, and more respected around the world.

My America would have a justice system that crushes seditionists and Anti-Constitutionalists infiltrators swiftly and without mercy. With plenty of other socialist, communist, fascist, or theocratic societies on the globe to choose from, there’s simply no excuse for the Constitution to be so weakened as to permit it’s own demise. The Constitution is, as the left is fond of saying, a “living document” that can change with the times. And the way that happens is by the process of amending the Constitution – and by that process ONLY. This chicken shi.t argument the left uses, that it’s a living document, so therefore we get to decide whatever it means on a given day, would cease instantly, and forever. Most especially would this be enforced in our courts, our classrooms, our college campuses, and our newsrooms.

Violent predators who prey on women and children, or who kill for the thrill of it, wouldn’t get three strikes, or twenty six strikes. They’d get only one strike, followed by life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. Repeat offenders, or those found guilty of multiple convictions after initial capture, would get one strike, followed by a fastball made of lead – right between the eyes, or a rope around their neck and a sudden stop.

My America would be a compassionate America, but not because of a government mandate. Government entitlements, like health care, welfare, etc. would be clearly, unequivocally and without exception, unconstitutional and illegal. Wise Americans know that to teach a man to fish feeds him for a lifetime. To pay him to stay at home and buy fish for him destroys the man. It weakens the mind and the body, steals life’s hard-earned accomplishments from him. The bread winning skills he loses cannot be passed to posterity, and the sense of entitlement is passed on in it’s place. Nanny statism, in this manner, progressively rots the whole society from within. Our compassion must comes from knowing firsthand, from the experiences of a bitter World War, that a country who takes Darwinism, or “survival of the fittest” to it’s extreme conclusion, rapidly loses it’s character, it’s respect around the world, it’s ability to govern, and ultimately invites it’s own demise. But more than this, the stewards of “my” America – the rational, hard-working commonsense men and women, know that it is their moral duty to help those less fortunate, as their own means allows. As they grow to positions of strength in their own lives, the wise will know that posterity, and their legacy, and the future of their country depends on their generosity. And it is they, and not the government, who should determine who is truly worthy of a hand up in the form of their wealth, and who is simply looking for a handout. Foreign aid would end – all of it.

My America would not foul it’s own nest. Common sense environmental protection and conservation laws, based on science and reason, not on science fiction and communist dogma, would be enforced.

My America would define “equality” or “social justice” as sameness in access to opportunity, regardless of race, gender or sexual orientation. It would NOT be defined as sameness of outcome, according to race gender or sexual orientation. Equal treatment under the law would prevail in every instance. That means that institutional bigotry, in all it’s evil forms, including Affirmative Racism, race and gender quotas, and “hate crime” laws would cease to exist, and would be declared illegal and unconstitutional.

Laws that attempt to dictate what consenting adults can eat, drink, smoke, snort, inject, swallow, grow, brew, distill, concoct, or stuff up their ass would be illegal. Only when an innocent person is victimized would a law be broken. Victimless crimes would cease.

So, any man or woman, who wanted to live a free society, and have equal opportunity, but with no, or a scant minimum in the way of a government-mandated “safety net”, would be welcome in my America.

I hope it gives you something in the way of an answer to your question.

Respectfully submitted.

Absolutely. I am sure this wasn’t easy decision for him. But letting insurers lobby and regressives (conservatives) to win this fight would make any future changes of health care impossible. This bill is not perfect but it is a great step forward. This is not the last step. It’s the first step in getting closer to what majority wants.
