Being and official Kennedy hater, I loathe to say this; but I doubt he was ever in that car. Look, when Mary Jo was found, the diver said she was clinging to the roof of the car where an air bubble had formed. If Ted had been in the car and managed to open the door before the car submerged, no air bubble would’ve formed.
Had Ted escaped out an open window, No air bubble would’ve formed and why wouldn’t
Mary Jo escape through said window. Also, there is no physical way a closed door
could’ve been opened once the car was submerged. The water pressure on the outside
of the door would’ve made this impossible. Thus Ted would’ve been killed too.

I think a story told to me by an Edgartown native, who knows the area pretty well,
is the most likely story. They’re on the beach fooling around, about to be discovered.
He’s a married man and a senator. He hands her the keys and says go to your hotel.
He goes back to his. She doesn’t know the area, she’s from out of town. Misses the
angled bridge, which didn’t have a guard rail back then and in she goes.

Like I said, I can’t stand the Kennedy’s and Ted is the worst of the bunch but,

If anybody saw the CBS special on Chappaquiddick, they had a camera mounted on a car and drive dow nthe raod to the bridge. Now here are some facts, the car had to be doing in excess of 50 mph, to get the car as far into the water as it was. Two, the raod was so bumpy, the CBS car could only do 30 mph and it like to have shook the, to death. Now, if it was an accident, why was Teddy driving so fast, why wasn’t May Jo examined? Why did Teddy call his backers 3o minutes after the accident and the police over 9 hours later? In a move which must have been rather tortuous for her parents, Kennedy attended Mary Jo’s funeral, wearing a neck brace (which he reportedly never wore again) and looking rather pathetic.

Sure, Ted Kennedy had some major moral failings. However, I really appreciate him having the courage to take a stand against the Iraq War. This is especially so because it so was clear to many of early on that the Bush Administration was misleading the country about WMDs in Iraq.

If only enough people would have stood up against the war and listened to you, Ted, then perhaps our country wouldn’t have started it’s rapid decent into financial ruin under George W. Bush. And, of course, more than 5,000 Americans and countless Iraqi civilians would still be alive today. Blessed are the peacemakers.

If the accident were to happen today, there is NO way he could have gotten away with his story. The only reason he did, is his all powerful family and money and the lack of hard, investigative journalism/forensic science to get to the bottom of an obvious fish tale! Remember, this was 1969 (only 1 year after RFK was killed) when affairs would have crushed his political career, so he and his powerful family/friends concocted the story (after they got the facts from the insiders at the police/rescue divers) to cover up what really happened, which would have resulted in the discovery of his affair/womanizing. The saddest part is, for all of his Catholic faith, he never “confessed” publicly to the real story…possibly to a Priest long gone, but never could “man-up” to the truth. Mary Jo was an only child, so no sibs to hound him and both parents died years ago. That he asked for new Chappaquiddick jokes speaks volumes about the man. Disgusting is too nice of a word. He obviously never believed that the truth will set you free.

This interview by an obviously very educated “friend” gives tremendous insight into the character of Ted Kennedy. Kennedy’ legacy —Ted and his family have done more HARM to the term Catholic than any other family by their rotten example. How fake that in death they want all the rites of the Catholic Church but in life deny to stand by what the Church teaches! I listened to this audio and was saddened that this man could joke about the life of a woman that he personally killed. Years later, he was a witness for his nephew on trial for rape and no surprise, the kid got off. Wow, let’s celebrate the life of a man that could be so callous and heinous. So, he was a Kennedy so all is forgiven?? I don’t understand how people, including our President, can make this man out to be like a God. I once read an analysis of Ms. Kopechne’s death.

Investigators believed it took many hours (maybe 8 hours) for her to finally die.

She didn’t actually drown – in the dark water of the submerged car she floated into an air pocket and held herself there as a place to breathe, believing help was on the way!

An autopsy revealed that she suffocated.

Apparently, Ted Kennedy swam to shore and secretly hid, trying to figure out what to do, whom to call…

The authorities and medical personnel who came to the scene believed that if Kennedy had sought help immediately, there was a reasonable chance the car could have been located and Ms. Kopechne might have been rescued alive.

But because Kennedy waited around freaking out and thinking of ways to save his political career – Mary Jo Kopechne waited in vain.

How terrifying to be alone, submerged in dark water, praying that someone is going to help you – and then slowly suffocating to death.

I am not suggesting that this should be Senator Kennedy’s total legacy – but the depth of his negligence proved he would NEVER be fit for the Presidency.

He left her to die, and enjoyed the subsequent jokes? I’m sorry, but that’s positively twisted. Possibly even more twisted then the way the Dems are using his death to push their pet agenda.

So, if Kennedy were in the car and escaped from the driver side window that was rolled down, why couldn’t he (and later that night, cousin Joseph Gargan and Gargan school friend Paul Markham later to be named US Attorney for Mass in 1964 by LBJ…BOTH were attorneys!!!)) get Mary Jo out?
He said he made repeated dives. Most likely (by me anyway) is that Mary Jo was driving in the dark is a strange area (may have had a drink or two) and she goes off the bridge. It being summer, it’s likely the window was rolled down as she was driving. With the sudden rush of water, she may have panicked and went for the air pocket in which the diver found her. She likely got tossed in the back seat and found the air pocket (Look for the sketch of how she was found and how shallow the water in Poucha Pond was…about 8 feet!) Kennedy said he couldn’t remember how he got out…which gave him a fuzzy excuse for how the detectives determined he could have escaped. The Dr. signed the death certificate as “drowning”, but the undertaker said there was no water in her lungs and that it was suffocation/asphyxia. No autopsy…2 months later, the
District Atty wanted to exhume Mary Jo for an autopsy as they had valid concerns it might not be drowning as thought…some blood on her skirt and around her mouth & nose. Possibly from asphyxia. Parents said no to the autopsy. The diver said that he believed she could have survived in the air pocket for up to 2 hours. Even if Kennedy was driving, nothing else he says from that point on makes ANY sense and would NEVER hold up in a court of law (then or now). Which is exactly why a week later he pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident so he wouldn’t have to go to court. One of the most improbable declarations is that he swam 500 feet across the channel to Edgartown! Someone that was drinking like he probably was (OK, let’s say he had 6 drinks) could no more swim 50 feet, much less 500 feet! The story just doesn’t add up.

He was a compassionate man? Why did he die with 163 million dollars? Why did he not give that to the poor? He should have died a thin vagrant if he truly cared about the poor. Just like all libtards, they would rather give away your money than theirs and then take the credit for it. Hey, no government subsidized citizen ever thanked me?

If Chappaquiddick happened today, he would have lost his career unless he could have paid his way out of it. To joke about an accident that cost a human life is unthinkably bad taste on his part.

If I hear one more person misquote the bible and the passage about judging I’m going to scream. Ok, yes, the bible says do not judge lest you be judge, but Jesus’ words here are for believers of unbelievers (or even unbelievers of one another). Believers are to judge each other – by their fruit (see 1st John) – and if someone is acting in a sinful manner, you approach them (Matt. 18) and then if after the steps they do not repent, they are excommunicated from the church. The judging has a point to it, and it’s not to build you up!

See, the problem is that most churches don’t do this today, and most preachers are too afraid to preach the truth of the bible. Christians are allowed, in a loving manner, to judge other Christians by their fruit. So, if Mr. Kennedy was a christian, and if you have read the things I’ve been reading, there seems to be a case for it (we know his wife is, according to the stories), then his fruit and conduct is liable to be judged by other believers.

With that said, any notion of being happy that he is in hell, or trying to judge him to make yourself feel better or to put the other brother (namely, Ted) in an inferior position is unbiblical. The judging is done in love and FOR THEIR BENEFIT, not so you can feel better about your own christian walk/life. The point of judging the other brother (and you better know them well to do it or it will probably be rejected) is so that you can decipher the sheep from the goats (read John 10), and potentially help a wayward brother.

So, please, stop using the bible out of context. You can make any point you want with the bible if you don’t know the context in which it is being used. Mr. Kennedy was a noble, and not many of them are saved (1 Cor 2), but I hope he (along with all of his family) was one of them. Christ loved me enough to forgive me; I only pray that Mr. Kennedy found the same forgiveness and salvation.

The canonization of Teddy Kennedy
As soon as cancer was found, I noticed the immediate attempt at canonization of old Teddy by the main stream media. They are saying what a “great American” he is. I say, let’s get a couple things clear & not twist the facts to change the real history.
1. He was caught cheating at Harvard when he attended it. He was expelled twice, once for cheating on a test, and once for paying a classmate to cheat for him.
2. While expelled, Kennedy enlisted in the Army, but mistakenly signed up f or four years instead of two. Oops, the man can’t count to four.
His father, Joseph P. Kennedy, former U.S. Ambassador to England (a step up from bootlegging liquor into the US from Canada during prohibition), pulled the necessary strings to have his enlistment shortened to two years, and to ensure that he served in Europe, not Korea, where a war was raging. N o preferential treatment for him like “he” charged President Bush received.
3. Kennedy was assigned to Paris , never advanced beyond the rank of Private, and returned to Harvard upon being discharged. Imagine a person of his “education” NEVER advancing past the rank of Private.
4. While attending law school at the University of Virginia , he was cited for reckless driving four times, including once when he was clocked driving 90 miles per hour in a residential neighborhood with his headlights off after dark. Yet his Virginia driver’s license was never revoked. Coincidentally, he passed the bar exam in 1959, amazing!!!
5. In 1964, he was seriously injured in a plane crash, and hospitalized for several months. Test results done by the hospital at the time he was admitted had shown he was legally intoxicated. The results of those tests remained a “state secret” until in the 1980’s when the report was unsealed.
Didn’t hear about that from the unbiased media, did we.
6. On July 19, 1969 , Kennedy attended a party on Chappaquiddick Island in Massachusetts . At about 11:00 PM , he borrowed his chauffeur’s keys to his Oldsmobile limousine, and offered to give a ride home to Mary Jo Kopechne, a campaign worker. Leaving the island via an unlit bridge with no guard rail, Kennedy steered the car off the bridge, flipped, and into Poucha Pond.
7. He swam to shore and walked back to the party, after passing several houses and a fire station. Then two friends returned with him to the scene of the accident. According to their later testimony, they told him what he already knew, that he was required by law to immediately report the accident to the authorities. Instead Kennedy made his way to his hotel, called his lawyer, and went to sleep.
Kennedy called the police the next morning and by then the wreck had already been discovered. Before dying, Kopechne had scratched at the upholstered floor above her head in the upside-down car. The Kennedy family began “calling in favors,” ensuring that any inquiry would be contained. Her corpse was whisked out-of-state to her family, before an autopsy could be conducted.
Further details are uncertain, but after the accident Kennedy says he repeatedly dove under the water trying to rescue Kopechne, and he didn’t call police because he was in a state of shock. It is widely assumed Kennedy was drunk, and he held off calling police in hopes that his family could fix the problem overnight. Since the accident, Kennedy’s “political enemies” have referred to him as the distinguished Senator from Chappaquiddick. He pled guilty to leaving the scene of an accident, and was given a SUSPENDED SENTENCE OF TWO MONTHS. Kopechne’s family received a small payout from  the Kennedy’s insurance policy, and never sued. There was later an effort to have her body exhumed and autopsied, but her family successfully fought against this in court, and Kennedy’s family paid their attorney’s bills a “token of friendship”?
8. Kennedy has held his Senate seat for more than forty years, but considering his longevity, his accomplishments seem scant. He authored or argued for legislation that ensured a variety of civil rights, increased the minimum wage in 1981, made access to health care easier for the indigent, and funded Meals on Wheels for fixed-income seniors and is widely held as the “standard-bearer for liberalism.” In his very first Senate role, he was the floor manager for the bill that turned U.S. immigration policy upside down and opened the floodgate for immigrants from third world countries.
9. Since that time, he has been the prime instigator and author of every expansion of and increase in immigration, up to and including the latest attempt to grant amnesty to illegal aliens. Not to mention the Pious grilling he gave the last two Supreme Court Nominees, as if he were the standard bearer for the nation in matters of right. What a pompous ass.
10. He is known around Washington as a public drunk, loud, boisterous and very disrespectful to ladies. JERK is a better description than “great American”.
Let’s not allow the spin doctors make this jerk a hero  how quickly the American public forgets what his real legacy is.

Teddy did indeed have a self-deprecating sense of humor that included Chappaquiddick. He would often say, “What I really told the sheriff after I turned myself in 10 hours after driving off the bridge was: When I drove off the bridge into the water, Mary Jo told me, “Teddy, I’m having an awful bout catching my breath, could you be a dear and get me a cigarette?” I’d do anything for that girl who volunteered extra hours under me in the Kennedy boiler room, so I swam to shore and wandered all over the island looking for a pack. If those damn blue laws didn’t close down stores early, she’d be alive today.” With that wonderful sense of humor, and his playful nature making waitress sandwiches with his good buddy Chris Dodd, it’s no wonder he was beloved by his senate colleagues.

Let me try to offer a level-headed assessment of Senator Kennedy:

I’ll start off by defending the right-wingers. You’re absolutely right about his school records and military service; it was a complete joke. Obviously, Chappaquiddick, even if what Mr. Kennedy says was true, is a completely sick act, even borderline monsterous. His drug and alcohol abuse were far too frequent to document, and yes, he had several affairs.

But now that that’s out of the way, I hope you all can agree that he did have some positive service in the U.S. Senate. Considering how absolutely barbaric his personal life was, it didn’t seem to infiltrate his profession. Politically, while there is no denying he was an ultra-lefty, he was usually one of the FIRST to make concessions and reach across the aisle. And I believe that in light of what we are seeing now with health care, it would be great to have a Ted Kennedy on the stand. Right now, the Democrats are trying to get a super-majority and slamming their own moderates for waivering on the idea. Ted Kennedy was one of the first to meet with Republicans and say, “What’s it going to take?” He may not sell the concept to all the Republicans, but I truly believe with some of the additions and subtracts made on his behalf, he tried.

If we are to judge him by his personal conduct, he’s probably one of the sickest people in human history. But on the floor, it’s very faulty to say his impact was miminal for 40 years.

Let Ted Kennedy rest in peace. God will deal with him justly and accordingly. Remember that Christ told us the power of his forgiveness will extend as far as our own ability to forgive. (Matthew 18:22) You don’t have to like the guy, and heaven forbid your kids use him as a role model, but allow this funeral to be a time of reflection for us all. Are there splinters that should be removed from our own eyes? Could we be better stewards of our country? Would having both of our siblings killed have an adverse effect on our own personal spirits? Do I want someone to suffer eternal damnation, or would I hope that God would have mercy on all his children?

It’s a forum, and sometimes people speak from the top of their heads. I sincerely hope that the right-wing condemnation is overstated and simplified, while on the same token, I hope that the left-wing adoration is tempered and specific.

What amazes me about many of these politicians who pass away is the way the mainstream media portrays them…….. as inspiring heroes rather than portray them as traitors to the US Constitution. Liberal, Conservative, Republican or Democrat – today, I would say that 99% of the politicians elected to Congress are in there for two reasons – money and power. Most of them are pathetic people who are either pragmatic materialists or treasonous traitors to the cause.

The majority of people today who are elected into office walk in with their own personal baggage of scandal, but if they’re well-spoken, charismatic or even good-looking, the sheeple turn the other way and scream “Change”. Until the American people begin to “wake up and smell the corruption”, quit looking the other way and most importantly, stop living in a celebrity-driven fantasy world, we will continue to see people like Ted Kennedy elected into office.

We may have gained our independence from England’s royalty; however, Americans continue to elect their own brand of “royalty”, complete with lives of privilege, fat bank accounts and shady pasts. We elect politicians who have no clue about the plight of the common, 9 to 5 American worker. They don’t understand the “common folks” who get up every morning, cook breakfast and get the children off to school. They don’t understand people who need to clip coupons or “buy on sale”. Therefore, they will never understand that the genius of this country is not the rich, corrupt, over-paid politician who sits on his or her throne in DC, it’s the every day American who gets up every morning and goes to work……that’s what made this country great.

I wonder if Ted Kennedy would have lived as long as he did if he had be subjected to the same type of government-run healthcare that he advocated for so long… oh wait, that government-run system would have only been for us commoners, and certainly NOT the liberal elite. Why does the fact that he loved Chappaquiddick jokes not surprise me? I was no fan of any of the Kennedy brothers, but Teddy was the least-suited to be a politician than the other two, which is one of the reasons he kept getting elected… Well, that and the fact that he was named Ted Kennedy instead of Joe Blow.

Much has been said here about Ted Kennedy, and most of it was negative. That is, with the exception of a few Teddy fans. Those who see through his flaws to give him praise and to honor him feel that we must not “speak ill of the dead”. I suppose that back in 1969, when Ted got on TV with a neck brace to speak about the “accident” that occured at Chappaquiddick, some folks felt that he was sincere and even sorry for what had occured. Let’s give old Ted the benefit of the doubt for a moment. Let’s say that he didn’t “kill” Mary Jo. That it was truly an accident. And let’s put ourselves in Ted’s shoes. How many of us would have waited until the next day to tell someone about this so-called accident? Not one decent, upstanding, honest person would have walked away from such a scene. Anyone with a heart would have stopped at the fire station that was located just down the road from that bridge. Yes, that’s right! Ted had to walk right past a FIRE STATION that night. But he didn’t stop and get help there. He just ignored the young woman who was trapped inside his car in the water. Even if Ted didn’t “murder” her, he neglected to get help in time to save her. To paraphrase Ted Kennedy, he “hoped that somehow Mary Jo would still be alive”, that somehow “she would have gotten out”. You know what Ted Kennedy did? He sold the American public a load of steaming ‘bovine excrement’ and sadly, we bought it. I was a toddler when Mary Jo Kopechne died in that car, so I don’t remember the news reports or Ted’s “apology”. But facts are facts and Ted walked away and allowed Mary Jo to die. Should we have forgiven him? Well technically, everyone deserves forgiveness. But Ted never took responsibility for what he “didn’t” do. What he didn’t do was try to save Mary Jo and it’s hard to forgive someone who didn’t think he needed forgiveness. I am a Christian. However, this is not a “let’s rip Teddy to shreds” campaign. It’s more like a let’s never allow this kind of “accident” to go unpunished again. Especially when it involves a high-profile character like this one. I just bet Ted was a great poker player. Look how he BS’d his way out of this situation. But you know what? Ted’s behavior after the accident tells the truth. He didn’t care. Plain and simple. So go ahead a praise Ted for all of his accomplishments. But ask yourselves, do those accomplishments outweigh the ugly fact that a young woman had to mercilessly die at the bottom of that body of water because a very wealthy man with his sights on a career in politics didn’t want to own up to his “involvement” in her death? Nothing outweighs Mary Jo’s life or her death.

Someone earlier wrote, “And even his biographer (who supported him) said that Kennedy joked about Chappaquiddick the rest of his life.”

Been thinking about that WATER DOG he gave to the Prez, and wondering if that gesture also was somehow “loaded with (secret) meaning”?? i.e., You’d think somebody who narrowly escaped DROWNING IN WATER and was somehow implicated in a young woman’s DROWNING IN WATER would want to keep some distance away from WATER, even in the metaphorical sense. A Portuguese WATER dog would, for a normal person, conjure up images of WATER, n’est-ce pas? Which in turn, might, for a normal person, conjure up images of TRAUMAS experienced in and near WATER. Instead, this guy seemed to LOVE to be around WATER and to make frequent references to WATER.

Rather odd…

Let’s hope that Ted Kennedy’s terrible life will be a lesson to us in the future. Maybe we won’t be so blinded by others like him. Oh no, that’s right–it’s too late. Just look at the current administration.
