‘Keep F****** That Chicken’: NYC News Anchor Makes Shock Comment on Live Broadcast

"Okay, I'll do that."

Editor's note: There is one word in this clip that is not quite safe for work.

Additional comment on the "P" vs. "F" debate from Scott Baker: Some believe that he said plucking. After repeated listens I can't hear the implosive. My feeling is the sudden wide-eyed reaction of his co-anchor is telling. As a recovering local news anchor myself, my sense is that he certainly meant to say "plucking," and I think he likely thought he did. If I were to guess -- his use of the phrase "tender forecast" a beat before put the "f" sound in play. Major news publications are reporting this as an "f-bomb."

I've put a related link in the section below to the UK Telegraph reporting on the gaffe. That story also has details on a similar gaffe made by Anastos.

Update: I've now made this a playlist. The second video clip is the similar gaffe referred to in the Telegraph article. Language warnings apply.

What a fine example of a Faux reporter, I bet he’s an Xian too.

Brent   September 17th, 2009 - 3:14 am

He is clearly saying, “Keep PLUCKING that chicken.”

John   September 17th, 2009 - 3:27 am

He said Plucking.

MAKES NO SENSE   September 17th, 2009 - 4:22 am

WHAT THE HECK DOES THAT MEAN, WHETHER HE SAID “F***ING” OR PLUCKING???
MAKES ZERO SENSE.

PEOPLE IN N.Y.C. MUST BE WEIRDER THAN WE REALIZED!

john   September 17th, 2009 - 4:30 am

this ia a tough week for TV people..

Steve Eide   September 17th, 2009 - 5:03 am

Pretty obvious that he said “pluckin” here.

di butler   September 17th, 2009 - 5:13 am

Must have grown up in the South or MidWest. I assumed he said Pluck right away. Just in a colloquial kind of way. He could have said “Keep beating that dog,” or “Keep grinding that axe,” for example. Every area has silly little things like that people say. No biggie. And to the person above, since when can someone not be a Christian if they say F#ck? Must have missed that rule.

A.E.L.   September 17th, 2009 - 5:26 am

YOU LIBS NEED TO CLEAN OUT YOUR EARS – HE SAID “KEEP PLUCKING THAT CHICKEN” REFERRING TO THE FRANK PERDUE QUOTE – GET YOUR MINDS OUT OF THE GUTTER – OH, THAT’S RIGHT’ YOU CAN’T – YOU’RE LIBS – YOU’RE PROGRAMMED THAT WAY.

racefanaz   September 17th, 2009 - 5:27 am

i think he said pluckin but he had that faggy lisp like barneyfag and it sounded like that bad word

MIKE   September 17th, 2009 - 5:28 am

Sure sounded like Fing to me

Dave   September 17th, 2009 - 5:28 am

Oh, come on. He said “plucking”…this isn’t an F-bomb.

Dave   September 17th, 2009 - 5:29 am

And A.E.L., do your homework. Breitbart is NOT a liberal site…duh!

tadchem   September 17th, 2009 - 5:30 am

If you *expect* to hear the F-bomb, that is what you will hear. Your mind is preset to expect that. If, like us well-mannered country boys, you have ever plucked a chicken, and have memories of having your mouth washed out with soap for using dirty words, you will hear what he really said.

A'E'L'   September 17th, 2009 - 5:32 am

QUOTE – Don September 17th, 2009 – 2:58 am
What a fine example of a Faux reporter
HEY DON – THIS IS FOX NETWORK NEWS, NOT FOXNEWS NETWOEK – THEY ARE AS DIFFERENT AS NIGHT & DAY. BUT I GUESS LIBERALS AREN’T EDUCATED ENOUGH TO KNOW THAT.

A.E.L.   September 17th, 2009 - 5:34 am

ObamaRidesTheDonkey.com   September 17th, 2009 - 5:35 am

I thought he said “plucking”.

Larry V   September 17th, 2009 - 5:36 am

I really don’t know why this is on Breitbart. He obviously said “plucking”. Maybe he’s trying to cozy up to the libtards after publishing all the videos on ACORN.

ed   September 17th, 2009 - 5:37 am

doesnt matter what he said will be a excuse if nailed for it or del.. like the oops on B.O.’s comment about what happened on MTV… besides.. if congress pulls another what you cant say.. then it will be a fact it wasnt said.. but fact is most cant give the news to start with .. they dont know what it s about so why listen to start with..

Jimmy Z   September 17th, 2009 - 5:38 am

Don – seriously, what is your problem? Why would you refer to a Fox News reporter that way? What do you have against Fox News, or Christians for that matter? I can’t stand that kind of nasty attitude.

poetopoet   September 17th, 2009 - 5:39 am

What the frell are you idiots? Pluck this!

Lance Boyle   September 17th, 2009 - 5:40 am

You’re trying too hard to invent scandal and it shows.
He clearly said “PLUCKING”.

gobnait   September 17th, 2009 - 5:42 am

‘PLUCKING’, not ‘F***ing’, you pickleheads!

Rob   September 17th, 2009 - 5:43 am

Plucking…yeah, right. But what about the next part where he sees his co-anchor exercising and then says, “Haaaaaaaaaaay look at you! Looking good out there. Go, go, go!” That dude was obviously either a) attempting to cause trouble or b) under the influence of some substance. Also, look at the co-anchor’s face when he says “plucking”…that reaction clearly reflects she did NOT think he said plucking.

mick   September 17th, 2009 - 5:45 am

To be honest, it sounds like “phlucking”. You can definitely hear the “L” in there. But I think he definitely got a “ph” sound in there. I think that is hilarious. And the weather guy obviously thought it was a dork comment.

Hearing the rest of the comments from this anchor though, I thought he might be on something. Very over-animated.

Jim   September 17th, 2009 - 5:50 am

Non-story…”plucking” is what he said…nothing disagreeable.

Shadow   September 17th, 2009 - 5:52 am

he said plucking, non-story

check your facts next time

Spencer   September 17th, 2009 - 5:56 am

“plucking” and chicken makes perfect sense. How somebody got “f******” out of that is beyond me. Also notice that nobody batted an eyelash when he said it. If he said something he shouldn’t have they would have jumped on the 7 sec delay button.

Spencer   September 17th, 2009 - 5:56 am

Rob   September 17th, 2009 - 6:11 am

He made a reference to an old chicken commercial just then so I don’t think it’s a big deal. It does sound like the F bomb though.

Goth VanHellsing   September 17th, 2009 - 6:11 am

He said Plucking I want the person who posted this story to give me the 2 mins I wasted watching it back.

Daniel   September 17th, 2009 - 6:22 am

An alveolar lateral approximant (‘l’) is clearly audible between the initial consonant and the vowel. Out of context, I wouldn’t be able to tell whether he’d said “flucking” or “plucking”, but he plainly did not use a vulgarity. In context, “plucking” (rather than the nonsense “flucking”) is most plausible.

Just give it a rest, folks.

Don   September 17th, 2009 - 6:44 am

@Jimmy

FOX isn’t an actual news source, hence Faux News. Xians simply disgust me.

@Mike

My ancestors were not Jews, nor do I practice their (or any) mythology. I’d give 50:1 odds that you are a racist though.

little fish   September 17th, 2009 - 8:16 am

Obviously another spew of racism against chickens.

Richard Nations   September 17th, 2009 - 8:46 am

Yes, he said “pluck” as in “pluck dat chicken.” Can you bozos please clean out your ears or else get a true grit dictionary of American English?

Jon in DC   September 17th, 2009 - 9:00 am

you guys are so desperate for news, or your mind is so in the gutter, that you hear profanity where there isn’t any? grow up

JRHowosso   September 17th, 2009 - 9:04 am

Put me in the “Plucking” column

Brad451   September 17th, 2009 - 9:19 am

You idiots. It’s the Perdue chicken slogon: “Takes a tough man to make a tender chicken”

James   September 17th, 2009 - 9:22 am

He said “Plucking”…..What moron tried to make this a story?

Barry   September 17th, 2009 - 9:38 am

I still don’t hear “plucking”. I tried several times of replay. Interesting to note that the weatherman held up his hands like “what is he talking about” or “I don’t get it”. So, even he was befuddled. Oh well, there’s much bigger news to pursue today anyway.

TC   September 17th, 2009 - 9:47 am

STOP the crap racist talk .. jeez. Pull a new phrase out of your backends. And yes, it was PLUCKIN not the other.

In regards to the other trash ‘DON’ is spewing: FOX is the ONLY one that will report whats happening, the only ones that DONT like it are those that are afraid more ppl will see the truth. BTW.. what are FOX cable ratings compared to the other MSM? hmm.. wonder where ABC,NBC and the others viewers are going to for the REAL stories? yeah.. keep your cheeks clenched tight hence more bs escape from your bowels.

Anne   September 17th, 2009 - 9:54 am

Funny! He sounds a bit loopy, especially when he interupts his co-anchor. Her response? “Um?”

cgray   September 17th, 2009 - 10:29 am

Slow news day.

kmichaels   September 17th, 2009 - 10:42 am

I listened to it the first time easily heard PLUCKING that chicken. Which makes sense since that is the most common saying involving chickens because you must pluck a chicken before eating it. I then re-listened to the audio quite a few times and it was apparent that he said PLUCKING. In addition there were no visual cues given by the other two news people to indicate that he would have used the f bomb.

yo   September 17th, 2009 - 10:42 am

He said Brack Obama is just a stupid boy and that he hates black people. I can’t believe you white people can’t see what is in front of your cracker faces.

Don   September 17th, 2009 - 10:48 am

Now, let me tell you a little about myself.

1) I speak before I understand the situation fully. As the scriptures say “A fool answers a question before he hears it” and I am just that fool.
2) I hate Christians so every chance I get I will talk badly about Christians. I do this to prove that I am a better human being than others and obviously have found a better way
to evolve into a more decent human being than being a Christian. That is why you can obviously tell that I am superior to others and more intelligent than others.
3) I am so intelligent that I don’t even have to use evidence and examples of why Faux news is bed (notice my clever word substitution of Faux for Faux, another sign of my
great and superior intellect) not only don’t I need to use examples and logic I just need to make the claim and everyone will agree with my greatness.
4) I don’t need to actually add anything intelligent to any discussion. My mere name “Don” sets everyone in a state of admiration.
5) I plan on moving out of my mommies basement as soon as I get a raise from Huffington post. 5 dollars an hour is more than I expected by my damn xstian mom keeps
saying I should pay something at least for the food that I eat.

TC   September 17th, 2009 - 10:57 am

sounds like an AWESOME plan for you ‘Don’

kmichaels   September 17th, 2009 - 11:11 am

In lines with the ‘I hear what I want to hear’ theory I have to think about the leftists hearing racism in every comment against Obama. It is always either in a coded word or an assumption or an implication or an obvious underlying dark tone. Certain people are set to go off regardless of what words are actually said. In this case the news anchor was referring to the Frank Perdue statement “it takes a strong man to make a tender chicken” followed up with the logical idea that you need to pluck the chicken first. Implying that the other guy was in the process of making that chicken tender, by first plucking it. Just a lighthearted banter is all.

In my research I found that in spanish Perdue’s statement means “it takes an aroused man to make a chicken affectionate.” Of course the idiot subhuman troll Don would of course fly off the handle and accuse xstians of wanting to have s-e-x with chickens, which he would say would be so like them.

But, bottom line, we hear what we want to hear and we translate it in our own minds to confirm our own prejudices and our own fears and our own natural way of thinking.

My natural way of thinking is to make sure I understand the issue first and listen to the evidence. In this case, he most definitely said “plucking”.
And the other evidence gathered from the other posters is that liberals tend to be negative and hear negative and use negative feedback about most issues and the conservatives tend to be fair minded, thoughtful and logical. And Don of course tends to be a hateful racist bigot because that is his primary first reaction to anything.

Commieobamie   September 17th, 2009 - 11:17 am

poor Don here, when he is making comments he has a fixation on anal faux wording for Fox news..

Krys   September 17th, 2009 - 12:41 pm

It sounded clearly like “plucking”…and the so-called wide eyed reaction mentioned
above by another poster, by his co-anchor, she always looks that way.

Gandhi's Fist   September 17th, 2009 - 1:24 pm

“Plucking”. It was “plucking”. The only reason this is even being reported is that it is FOX news. Can you imagine, this is the best the libs can come up with? Desperation.

Lina Lamont   September 17th, 2009 - 6:44 pm

Plucking.

Jay   September 17th, 2009 - 11:27 pm

It is evident that he said the F word, here is the proof. He will apologize tonight.
http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D9APF31O0&show_article=1

BobbyO   September 18th, 2009 - 4:14 am

He said “f–king,” and that DOES make perfect sense to us older folks who remember that, while “keep plucking your chicken” was never a part of the old Purdue chicken commercials (“it takes a tough man to make a tender chicken”), “Keep F-cking that Chicken” is time honored slang for “KFC,” refering to the way the Colonel used to cut his chickens into the most unidentifiable pieces imaginable, leaving pieces of the guts clinging to the ribs and ubiquitous spine pieces (all pieces, it seemed, had spine connected). I’m in my 50s, and old high school friends and I have been laughing all night because the anchor was clearly making a tongue in cheek play on words for those of us who remember, but took a big risk in doing so and blew it. Without question, he said “f-cking.”

jay   September 18th, 2009 - 10:04 am

Right on Bobby-O, his apoligy for doing so is final proof he said the F-word..sorry to all of you defenders of Fox news, you loose!

Larse   September 18th, 2009 - 4:44 pm

Perhaps it could have been pronounced more succinctly. But the look on the lady’s face next to him was great!! :D Sounded like a “F” to me but you would have to hear it with something better than compressed YouTube audio. You can see in in high def here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdnXYWSa56w

Danny   September 18th, 2009 - 7:14 pm

That is hilarious… he said it…. no way around it. He just blew it.

Don, good luck with all that. Hope it works out for you.

migraine solution   September 18th, 2009 - 7:47 pm

Nice content indeed! i will visit as often as i can.

cheers

Ryder   September 18th, 2009 - 11:30 pm

I heard plucking and F*cking on a few playbacks… if either made sense, I would know what to believe… but since neither co-anchor fliched, he probably said something less offensive.

kmichaels   September 19th, 2009 - 8:38 pm

The fact that he apologized later does not prove anything. If I said a word and was not quite
sure how I pronounced it but a large number of people thought they heard a bad word
I can still see myself apologizing for the mistake. For not pronouncing it better.

It is obvious that his intent was certainly plucking and it made the most sense.
I had a job reviewing tapes for content in the military and I heard a distinct P sound
and a distinct L sound. But it is easy to run a word ending in p to one beginning in p and
having a slight F sound to it.
