I have been out of work and searching for the past month and a half. Been on about 10 interviews so far and with little luck. Yet I have been lucky as my former employer owes me a sizeable chunk of cash in commissions and has actually made good on about 90% so far. However, money is running out and not many people are hiring. Even the company I left (or was terminated from, depending on who you talk to) was having money issues. FYI, I only got paid because my former company got paid on my projects and legally they owed me first (along with the manufacturers).
Sorry for the selfish rant but my point is there are not many, if any, decent job opportunities out there. Is there any sort of support group for unemployed to get together and help each other with resumes/emotional support (man, I am getting depressed), etc.?
I whine like a baby but all I can think is if these buttheads in the government never got involved in the first place (bailouts, fannie and freddie debacle courtesy of CRA under Carter, etc.) that this mess would be much less of a mess to begin with. By the way, many of my former clients/prospects, either put on indefinite hold projects or purchases of my products due to budget cuts or simply cancelling the project – not much you can sell when your own clients cancel their own agendas except find other clients – and when those other clients do the same thing, you start to realize things may be as bad as some news agencies are claiming.
I will survive, the only question is, with what.
