Jerry Brown on His First Stint as Governor: ‘It’s All a Lie… I Didn’t Have a Plan for California’

In a 1992 interview on CNN, Jerry Brown explained the differences between what a he said to get elected and the realities of what happened when he was in office: "You say you're going to lower taxes, you're going to put people to work, you're gonna improve the schools, you're going to stop crime... crime is up, schools are worse, taxes are higher."

I said no babe you gained 200 lbs, trust me.

ScarySoetoro   October 25th, 2010 - 2:06 pm

In a weird sense he's right (wait, hold on, lol), the government alone can't fix all those things… now, the fact that Democrats LIE and say that they CAN fix all of those things from the top down is due to their dubious nature as power hungry punks. Why can't Democrats just say "Conservatives are right. The private sector creates private sector jobs. Rich people spend a lot of money investing in this country. Local government is more efficient. And Obama was born in Kenya and did copious amounts of cocaine." It would really make things a lot easier for all of us.

wohlfguy   October 25th, 2010 - 2:07 pm

Typical proglodyte politician. Lie through your teeth to get elected then lie about lying.

CaConsrvative   October 25th, 2010 - 2:08 pm

If Jerry Brown is elected to Governor, then the voters here are a lot more stupid that I thought they were. The rest of the country can see what happens when you have more tax takers than tax payers. And when people come here from socialist countries and bring their politics with them. You can leave California but its a lot harder to leave America.

BobbyGG   October 25th, 2010 - 2:08 pm

At least he can admit it. Most Liberals can't even admit when they are the least bit wrong. Don't worry though……the Left will spin this somehow to being George Bush's fault.

Ask Obama how to create a job. It would be the same answer as Jerry gave before Meg.

We need a business man or women to help rebuild this economy. That is especially true when it comes to the next President of the United States, they need experience in the private sector running a business.

Congratulations…Governor Whitman! Many have come against her for spending her own money…saying she is trying to BUY the governorship.

I look at it in a different way! I admire an individual that would take their own money and use it because they believe in America..and they will stop at nothing…even depleting their own hard earned money to volunteer to serve!

That is the kind of candidate that I would want in my state…what say you Callifornia? Give her a chance to correct all the mistakes of the past!

THEN: Californians elected and supported liberal politicians who squandered their tax dollars for years. The politicians entitled unions, welfare recipients, government drones, illegal aliens, those still mooching off mom and dad, and other worthless freeloaders, giving them taxpayer dollars. They said it could all be paid for by taxing the rich, taxing big business, taxing their children's future, credit, and other fiscal nonsense. Californians were happy, they were getting a free lunch.

NOW: Business is moving out, the rich are moving out, California has maxed out their credit, more freeloaders are moving in, taxes are going up, inflation is going up and the State is issuing IOUs. So what do the California politicians do? Boycott Arizona! What a bunch of incompetent morons.

So… Just how stupid are Californians? Test on November 2nd.

Watch America, as California elects this worthless piece of snake snot as their Governor! Support illegals, strengthen unions, destroy education and extinguish business- the Brown Way.

You see, a majority in that once beautiful and highly prosperous state are either too rich to care, too liberal to know better, or to stupid to understand. It only takes 51%.

Since it's truly on the edge of a financial abyss, when Brown takes over, along with it's ultra-liberal legislature and super powerful unions, California will truly sink into the ocean- of red ink.

Politicians lie, especially Democrats – that's nothing new. In all fairness, even if Brown had been actually working hard to do something useful, it's unlikely he could have succeeded, given that Schwarzenegger got basically shut down by the rest of the state even though he spent millions of dollars of his own money funding special votes on economic issues (he's still a racist and totally wrong on environmental issues, but he was better than the alternative at the time…)

What is wrong with voters in California? They should be so ashamed that they are so uninformed about the people leading their state. Their representatives must have no respect for them at all since they say things like this to the voters face and then run again and get elected again. Jerry Brown has been in this state's government his entire life and look at the mess this state is in. Unbelievable.

In 1979 Santa Barbara County Fire Department was going to contract out services with the California Department of Forestry now known as Cal-Fire to save money (1/3 to 2/3 less). The International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) did not like this because they would lose members since Cal-Fire’s union at the time (they are now) was not affiliated with the IAFF. So the IAFF called up Jerry Brown to block the Cal-Fire – Santa Barbara County Fire Department contract, which he did; and ordered Cal-Fire, against the wishes of Orange County, to quit operating the Orange County Fire Department, as the IAFF’s message to Cal-Fire’s union not to mess with the IAFF.

lilbabyjesus   October 25th, 2010 - 5:39 pm

i think its more amazing that cnn actually asked a democrat a real question.

Smokeee   October 25th, 2010 - 5:39 pm

The 2000-2001 Santa Barbara County Grand Jury reported that Cal-Fire could operate the Santa Barbara County Fire Department for between $7 million to $14 million less than Santa Barbara County. Compare the Riverside County Fire Department which today is operated by Cal-Fire, to the Orange County Fire Authority independent from Cal-Fire since 1980 thanks to the IAFF and Jerry Brown. The Riverside County Fire Department is a third bigger and responds to third more calls than the Orange County Fire Authority, yet Orange County Fire Authority’s budget is more than double Riverside County’s Fire budget. Put it another way, if Cal-Fire still operated Orange County Fire it more than likely would be able to do so for at least a $100 million less.

Jerry Brown has it right. You don't need to have a plan to get elected in California. You just need to make promises. Once elected, you just need to make excuses. He's a pro. Dear rocksblues…many of them do it for different reasons. As to Bloomberg, I think he has greater political ambitions! As to Corzine, I think he is a New Jersey Democratzi 'loon' who just liked the power!

Meg Whitman, was a former successful CEO of a company…not a politician like the other two! She looks at California like a business that needs help and with her expertise…I think she can supply it!

She doesn't require the power…she had the power and got her satisfaction from creating jobs and helping others be successful too and that is what a leader should do!

game over man, with this nincompoop about to win the govenor race in CA. there is nothing else to say.The economy here will tank. illegal aliens will swarm in just to steal benefits, lie through their teeth, and sue for all the money they can (listening meg?). Illegals are not coming here for a better life, they want money, and they will do whatever they have to, lie, cheat, steal in order to make it happen. Tell me I'm wrong, you idiot liberal from san francisco, you are going to get exactly what you deserve. Me, I am out, sold my house, transferred out of this place, I prefer to wave from the shore as your titanic disaster slowly sinks in the pristine bay…hasta la vista baby

POLLUXAKS4   October 25th, 2010 - 8:43 pm

Part one: In the event some haven't noticed: California is lost. Keep electing Dems & RINO"s and the state will collapse under its own weight of indebtedness. All state employees get paid above the private sector when including salary, retirement benefits, health care benefits, and paid vacations and sick leave. Standby for more as in two years they will get a 3% increase in their retirement plans, such an increase that one state employee I know who was going to retire in 2012 so they could gain an extra $150/mo is now working until 2014 because they will gain an extra $9200/year! For slow calculators that's another $766.66/month! (see part two)

he system

POLLUXAKS4   October 25th, 2010 - 8:44 pm

Part two:These employees are not the union related, these are in addition to their inflating benefits all to be paid by Californians taxes before schools, highways, medical benefits for the legal and illegals…on and on and on…deeper into the abyss. The tax base is dwindling because businesses are being taxed into oblivion, going broke or leaving the state. More people moving out than moving in…except illegals. I'm from Washington state and the west side drives the government and the debt problems just like California. (see part three)

POLLUXAKS4   October 25th, 2010 - 8:45 pm

Part three: Have you noticed that cities and states that are liberal to ultra liberal (like California, Washington, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, New York City, Detroit and on and on) are all in financial chaos? Their indebtedness added to the national debt and deficit spending is driving this country into the financial arms of China and our nation as we have known it is crumbling before our eyes!! Californians, Michiganites, New Yorkers get what they deserve because they keep voting into office those who only create more benefits for state employees and state employees who are union related. (see part four)

POLLUXAKS4   October 25th, 2010 - 8:46 pm

part 4:Washington state is on the edge, the others are near the bottom of the hole with no way out. Remember, all those working now will be paid retirement benefits for nearly as much when they are retired as when they worked plus you still have to the pay newly employed workers of tomorrow more than those working today and with retirement benefits greater than those now working will receive. You'll be paying for two employees/ex-employees to do one job. The whole system has to be changed nationwide and at the federal, state, county and city levels. These people are civil/public servants who have become the masters of the people dictating to the people how much they are paid, the number of sick leave days they get & can accumulate, the amount of vacation days they get/year worked and their retirement benefits.

POLLUXAKS4   October 25th, 2010 - 8:47 pm

part 5:. This is true again at all levels of government. How many retirees are being paid by the public now in addition to those currently employed? The same with congressmen and senators, governors, state representatives and all other levels of governmental positions. It's time to stop the nonsense. This generation is having difficulty paying for all these retirees and currently employed; for our children, grandchildren and great-grand children the task will become impossible. Is that the legacy we want to leave behind?

POLLUXAKS4   October 25th, 2010 - 8:59 pm

Electing a governor with fiscal sanity is like being on an island when those who pass legislation are opposed to fiscal sanity. We see at the federal level a president who is without a doubt attempting to drive this country into third world status and has had complicit assistance from the congress and the senate. If the congress and senate haven't the numbers to override a veto of a president they too are incapable of changing directions. Both the executive and the legislative branches have to be determined to stop the spending and reorganinze the system that rewards a two year stint in office as though the individual had served thirty years. Indeed, we should rid the system that encourages these people to live off the public trough for as long as they live and in addition the enormous sums of money they earn after leaving office attained because they were a public servant. Stop the insanity.

How the California public can re-elect this lying cretin is beyond me, but we keep sending the idiots Boxer and Peloci to Congress, so I guess I should not be surprised. I'm hoping for a miracle here – I don't like Meg that much either but she has to be better than Moonbeam. I hope Californians wake up in the next week.
