The basic message of Avatar has been around since the revisionist Westerns of the late ’60s and early ’70s (e.g., Little Big Man). It may be one-sided, but there’s obviously some truth in it. Indigenous peoples have been treated very cruelly by their conquerors, and their way of life (albeit often harsh and difficult) does offer some values that modern industrial society has lost sight of.

I don’t know about the rest of you but I’m glad he told us this. Now I won’t have to spend my money on his dimwitted views.

I don’t watch fox news, by the way. All of the MSM outlets are sources of pure fiction, and fox is no exception (and dear god if Fox is one of the very few MSM outlets that doesn’t have a liberal bias). This is just another film. That’s it. And it’s a damn long one too. I hated Titanic. Aside from being a travesty with Marxist class war baloney that never actually happened, I also hated it for being too damn long. I was one of those people who said “when is the damn ship going to sink already?” The only good part was when that person hit the propeller. Aside from that, yaaaaaaaaaawn.

I don’t expect Avatar to be as boring, but I don’t think I’ll like the film that much. There are other films released this year (like Inglorious Basterds and District 9) that won’t be topped by this. (At least to me)

Hey everyone – See B Holland – it shows the arrogance of the left, in a nutshell.

Sorry, I happen to like my country and I don’t think former President Bush is a terrorist (Avatar quote: “we will fight terror with terror,” matched with images of daisy clusters, says as much). Nor do I think the U.S. is raping the Middle East for oil, as Cameron’s parallels suggest. And I don’t think humans are evil creatures bent on destroying the planet.

Liking the U.S. and disliking the propaganda of Avatar doesn’t make us an equivalent of the KKK. If you want someone who thinks in strictly racial terms and has a great deal of prejudice, why not listen to the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, Obama’s former “spiritual leader?” It’s the hate that the left doesn’t talk about because the guy happens to be black – and once connected to the POTUS.

As for Avatar, some of us don’t want to be preached to while seeing a film, just as I’m sure leftists and others don’t want to be preached to by evangelical fundamentalists. A good director works with subtlety, not rants.

I wish that people would recognize the snide, holier-than-thou loathing that the left has for conservatives and people who dare to like the country. Contrary to popular perception, the right is not nationalism on steroids – it just seems that the left has lost any appreciation for Western culture, the U.S., capitalism (the great equalizer), and human dignity (people will be restricted to no end by the government if they use “the environment” as a rationale). Avatar- A RightNation point of view

Ok this is going to have spoilers so if you haven’t seen the movie do not continue to read…

I’ve read a lot of articles about the left wing slant of this movie and how amazing and cutting edge it is. The 3D version is fun to watch. It is not cheesy where things are flying out at you, the 3D is only used to give texture and depth which is really cool at times. It is only cutting edge from a technology perspective. The plot itself is a rehash of every action movie ever made. In fact, it is amazingly predictable from the very start.

-The outsider nobody falling in love with the princess (Aladdin, etc. )
-The princess saving the foreigner (Pocahontas, etc)
-The “chosen one” dragon rider (Eragon, Lord of the Rings, etc.)
-Revenge boss fight at the end of the story (every martial arts movie I have ever seen)

In other words it is “Dances with Wolves” set on another planet.

Need I go on. I could probably type for an hour with other stolen movie cliches. The storyline of this movie is a tribute to cliches. In this movie we learn:

1. Humans have wiped out all vegetation on our planet. Are you freak’n kidding me? Farmers in California can’t even get fresh water for their crops because environmentalist are trying to save the wolly womp rat or the purple nurple earth worm. So we are to believe that we are going to go from this culture to one that wipes out all life on earth? REALLY!!!?

2. The other thing we learn is we are willing to launch a surprise attack on a village filled with women and children because we are too impatient with negotiations to get their metal “unobtainium.” Again, really?! We can’t go into a Mosque in Iraq when we KNOW there are terrorists and weapons inside. We can’t search homes when women are alone. We do everything including putting our own soldiers at risk in order to prevent even the smallest collateral damage. So we are to believe we are going from this to a massacre in 150 years?

3. There is a reason the Indians lost to the British and the “Indians” (feather not dot) lost to the cowboys. Superior firepower. The very thought that bows and arrows are going to beat a modern army today is so ridiculous I can’t wrap my mind around it. The thought that it could happen 150 years from now is dumb beyond reason. Guns beat arrows. Always. Attack helicopters beat smurfs ridding flying dragons. Always.

James Cameron did claim this is a left wing propaganda movie. The humans (Americans) talk about “shock and awe”, fighting “terror with terror”, and they even manage to get a “treehugger” statement in. However, my wife choose to look at it the other way. The “skypeople” were the Muslims, the Navin were the Americans. Foreigners come to our land, conduct a sneak attack of 9/11 proportions by destroying the mother tree (WTC), and the Navin have NO CHOICE but to fight back. So apparently to James Cameron WAR IS THE ANSWER. It was the answer in Aliens, it was the answer in Terminator, and it was the answer in Avatar.

In order to save our culture and people we must kill our enemy. I looked at it a little different than my wife. The people who want to preserve culture are called conservatives, the ones who want to change it and adopt “multiculturalism” are called liberals. So this movie has the conservatives (Navin) forced to use violence once they are attacked. Their only choice is to destroy the liberals (Skypeople) or change their lives. That is the lesson I taught my kids after seeing it.

Why must you inject politics into what has to be the most sensous movie ever made.

Whatever your political views – park them at the door – and simply wrap yourself in the visual beauty of a world without reps or dems.It is called entertainment, imagination, …..

Must you take all the joyfulness, creativity, color from the world. A movie is a movie – enjoy bathing your soul in the colors, textures, sensousness of a truly fabulous piece of entertainment.

You know, I usually drink the anti-liberal kool-aide with the rest of them, but I actually saw this film and what I took away form it was not liberal propaganda…

To me this film presented a story of a former Marine who takes a job of opportunity with a private mining company (not the U.S. gov’t or military as many haters are saying) on an alien planet, along side other former servicemen working as hired guns. The Marine gets to know the native population and feels that what the company is trying to do to the Na’vi is wrong and does everything in his power to fight against it. You could say the mining company was treading on the Na’vi’s liberty, and as an old WWII poster I’m fond of states; “Americans will always fight for liberty.”

There was also the whole save the environment aspect of the film, but at best that was a side theme to the main story in my opinion.

Good stewardship of the planet should not be a partisan issue, but unfortunately there only seem to be extremes on both ends of the spectrum, with no common sense between them both. Those who want extreme environmentalism to the point where it hurts people, and those who wish to exploit to the point where it becomes unsustainable. And a whole lot of junk science in between, global warming for one, but that is a whole other can of worms…

I kept hearing about how great these graphics were, how cutting edge this story was. What I just saw in this clip was no better than the crap on World of Warcraft. This cost half a billion dollars to make? Somebody got gypped big time!
