Harvard Professor: Arrest ‘Made Me Realize How Vulnerable All Black Men Are’

"It was the fault of a policeman who couldn't stand a black man standing up for his rights right in his face. And that's what I did. And I would do the same thing exactly again."

If this guy was this calm when the police were trying to protect and verfy what was going on in his home nothing would have happened. Normally they would complain that the police never show up to protect black people. He was able to come into his house – he was investigating a possible crime. This reverse racism is out of control!
This guys is a liar! “This depends on what the definition of “IS” is” He’s 5′7″ – Napolean (Small Man) Complex
Here’s the link to his Police Report:

I like how he’s listed as “Divorced” – I guess his exwife was a racist.

We have a fraud in the White House and he refuses to show anyone his ID (Birth Certificate).

He is a down trodden black man in America. He has a driver at his beck and call. Just came back from China with his daughter.A Harvard professor teaching some made up ethnic course, making hundreds of thousands of dollars. He has been kept down by the man and how dare a police officer question a black man breaking into his own house. Don’t you know me and the pres. are buds.

dave   July 23rd, 2009 - 10:59 am

Who believes that “we live in a racist society” when this Black man making these ridiculous accusations is a Harvard professor?
By the way, those most vulnerable in our society are white females at the hands of black rapists.
In 2004 there were over 34,000 cases of white women being raped by blacks in the US alone, while there were less than 10 cases of black women being raped by white men(most were probably fake like Tawana Brawley or the Duke lacrosse players fiasco).
Blacks aren’t “vulnerable”,whites are to Black predation.

Talen   July 23rd, 2009 - 10:59 am

Ok, so let me get this right….He’s attempting to break the lock to his own house. The police are called and roll on the scene with only the knowledge of a potential forced entry situation. They confront the guy. Now, even if he was to politely explain the situation, wouldn’t anyone with a ounce of common sense expect the officers to request some form of ID so that he can prove he lives there? What are they suppose to do, just take his word for it?

If that’s the case, why do we have metal detectors at airports? I think it would save a lot of money if all we did was ask people if they are carrying any bombs or weapons and just take their word for it.

If I hear one more person say “This is not about me….” I’m going to puke. He says himself there was a black officer present. Why doesn’t someone ask HIM what happened if they are so quick to tar and feather the police department. This is about a black man (professor) becoming angry and irate and menacing toward a white cop who is doing his job. RULE NUMBER 1, smartypants professor, you don’t intimidate a cop who is doing his job, races aside, who is responding to a suspected breaking and entering. You just don’t. Secondly, I can tell when someone is embellishing the facts to make themselves look better. And this Harvard Prof is turning it up for the cameras.

Sue   July 23rd, 2009 - 11:23 am

This guy looks to be older and this is his first problem with cops? After trying to break-in to his (cops didn’t know that)and he says blacks are vulnerable? Who is he kidding? He would have screamed loudest and longest if cops hadn’t stopped someone else trying to break in. Can’t win for losing?

Talen   July 23rd, 2009 - 11:25 am

According to the police report, it didn’t exactly go down as Mr. Gates explained on camera

Harvard Professor: Arrest ‘Made Me Realize How Vulnerable All Black Men Are’

Wasn’t hired by Harvard because he, supposedly, already had that perspective?
Fraud.

mks   July 23rd, 2009 - 11:36 am

This is absurd. This homeowner should have appreciated the fact that these cops were johnny on the spot to protect his home. Instead Gates turns it into a race issue. Simple as that. I’m sure both Farrakahn and Wright are partying over the actions of Gates and the words of the prez last night.

RobinNJ63   July 23rd, 2009 - 11:38 am

Of course he acts calm here on this show. However the truth is, the Officer did what was expected of him. Arriving on scene with information that a possible break is occurring. He arrives, finds “someone” in the house, tells him why he is there and asks for verification.
Here is where the story falls apart. According to Gates, story he appears calm, but is agitated for some reason with the cop while he is reviewing his ID, blurts out a statement of “racism” which was uncalled for. The officer obviously wants to avoid this new confrontation, walks away to keep composure and avoid further remarks. With that, Gates follows more remarks with a calm demeanor and then gets arrested and asks WHY? and shouts more acts of RACISM – THIS according to GATES!
The Officer, doing his job trying to get answers does the above, but claims Gates, was in refusal of showing ID and apparently was protesting having too.. Gates admits starting the white comments as in the above video, but according to the Officer, he was angry, shouting and acting belligerent towards the officer for simply verifying the “person” who now stands inside a house where a call has been made of breaking and entering. Yes, Officers WILL arrest you for being stupid enough to act all kinds of foolish!

Now, ANYBODY in this situation, would gladly offer their ID to back up their story that they live in the house.
This is how this should have been handled:
Upon arrival of the officer, the officer confonts the person of interest with the “we just received a call of a possible breaking and entering” and we are inverstigating…
GATES: (or any sane person would reply) Oh no, officer, I live here and my door was jammed tight and I couldn’t open it. I am sure it must have looked like that. Here is my ID, I live here and own this house.

Officer would have look at the ID and confirmed as much and said, sorry to bother, we get these calls and we have to check them out. Have a nice day.

GATES or anyone sane would reply” Not a problem, I am just glad that someone cared enough to call when they see something that looks funny or out of place.

MY LAST OPINION: That the call was made strikes me funny, as we are being programmed on TV from the BRINKS/Broadview Home Secrutiy commercials that all break ins are being caused by relatively neat, but scruffy, white guys wearing hoodies and black knit caps, NOT black or hispanics or really scrungy looking, toothless, scraggly haired white guys….

Henry Louis Gates, Jr. Police Report
“I’ll speak with your mama outside,” Harvard prof told Cambridge cops
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2009/0723092gates1.html

JULY 23 — Here are the police reports detailing the confrontation last week between Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. and Cambridge cops, who were condemned last night by President Barack Obama for acting “stupidly” in arresting the African-American scholar. Cops responded to Gates’s house after neighbor Lucia Whalen reported spotting “two black males with backpacks” trying to gain entry to the home (Gates, returning home from a trip overseas, and his driver were contending with a stuck front door). The Cambridge Police Department reports, authored by Sergeant James Crowley and Officer James Figueroa, quote an incensed Gates yelling, “This is what happens to black men in America!,” and, when asked by Crowley to speak with him outside the residence, Gates replied, “ya, I’ll speak with your mama outside.” A disorderly conduct rap was filed against Gates, but quickly dropped by prosecutors. Gates is reportedly considering legal action against the Cambridge police. (3 pages)

Officer doing his job: “Sir, I’m so and so, a police officer responding to a report of a break in of this residence, can you plese step out and show your id so we can clear this up.

Ignorant Prof: “Why because I’m a black man in America? No I will not compy to your request!”
IN his mind: You racist white cop! Now bow down to me or I’ll cry to the media and get the BO brigrade on you ass.

wha wha wha and on this BS goes.
That prof is a very ignorant man and so are the media outlets that support this kind of ’sleazy’ ignorance to the max.

Scott Shaw   July 23rd, 2009 - 11:53 am

The interview does not match with the police report(Thesmokinggun.co) which was written by several different officers. The police man , of course followed him into the house. Why ? Because he doesn’t know the person who he requested ID from , and that person could have got a gun or knife to bring back. The professor omitted his racist remarks from the interview , and cleaned it up to give a different picture. The women interviewing was partial to the professor , coloring the interview further. She was supposed to be neutral , but was adding to the story with character references. The interview was doctored to make the police wrong in their actions. My opinion was that they were following procedure to the letter. What made a simple incident into an arrest was the black man’s loud , and crude behavior . He brought it all on his self.

And yes, he could of arrested you without a warrant.

You are wearing you race as a chip on your shoulder. If you expect others to be racist, then you will find it easily as a fabrication in your own mind.

Barry Bonds   July 23rd, 2009 - 1:01 pm

Anyone who take a police report word for word should be thrown off a 1 story building. Not enough to kill you but shake you up a bit because you’re living in a fairy tale world. Of course the story conflicts with the police report, do you think the police are going to admit that they arrested the man for no reason? Wait, the cop did admit that he arrested this man for no reason. If you people read the report it says he was being loud and tumultuous in a public space. Sorry but a mans porch is NOt, I repeat, is NOT a public space. Sorry. Also a good indication that the cop was wrong: the charges were DROPPED! No they aren’t pending, they were DROPPED! That means the D.A. says they aren’t interested in prosecuting a non-crime. So that’s a fail for your Super Cop.

Kenny C   July 23rd, 2009 - 1:07 pm

There’s more to this than we know….who knows what really went on in that house….bet He’s looking for some bucks……reminds of those scum bags who jump on a bus after an accident to get money

Are you sure that is how it happened? He pulled out the race card before showing his ID. You can tell he has a chip on his shoulder and is a very loud and vociferous person. This is evident by watching this bias interview from CNN. Now he wants to get paid for this behavior in the name of others?

I would love to see the video of this arrest. I would bet the White House he was NOT cool, calm, and collected. And I would bet the White House HE WOULD HAVE DONE THE SAME THING IF HE WERE THE COP!! Of course it makes better news to portray the poor trodden black man when in reality had he acted like he was as educated as he is…the result would have been nothing to write home about. Liberal news…liberal views…liberal spin. The End.

f14fixer101   July 23rd, 2009 - 1:49 pm

Gates has conviced himself, he got confrontationly with the police officer in his own words. With no disrespect by the officer up to that point. “Why are you not responding to me? Is it becauce your a White Police Officer and I’m a Black Man?”. And now he claims he’s the victim? ALL RIGHTY THEN!!! How come he keeps going back to his color? Listen to the police officers recounts of what happen there are a video and a sound bit with local news and a morning show. And there were several other police officers there too, some at least one was black by his recount. What does the officer have to say? Listening to both side you can make up your own mind. It’s pretty clear who was in the wrong.

peter c   July 23rd, 2009 - 1:55 pm

This same so-called Racist cop gave Mouth to Mouth to try to save Reggie Lewis a Bl@ck Celtic great some years ago….If he were a racist he wouldn’t have done that.

No….Gates is who acted like a racist…a spoiled punk…an Elitist Harvard Racist phony….Just like his follow racist and Harvard elitist Obama. 88% of Boston supports the Cop in this…even liberals who read the Boston Globe overwhelmingly support the Cop.

And Obama who spent 20 years in a Racist Church…who himself won’t show any I.D. showed his Racism last night.

We NEED to vote ALL Dems out come 2010 and their lying Messiah Obama come 2012…or we are all screwed….and it won’t matter what color you are..Michele Obama ran a Patient Dumping Program at the U .Chicago Hospital….and guess who was dumped? Bl@cks!

How long do we have to endure this fake racism stuff before we are all truly equal? I mean we have a black president. My ancestors (beat up Irish) had nothing to due with slavery. I just am tired of hearing about it. I may become angry and with racist black people’s help may become racist myself.

Sean R.   July 23rd, 2009 - 2:01 pm

Hmm, typically when topics like this one and many others appear on Andrew Breitbart’s
website, normally you’ll see morons like Ignorantminority, Anexio (Mr. Ass-talker)
etc. post ignorant BS and blame white people for their own problems. Folks, I happen
to be a black-male myself and posters like Ignorantminority, Anexio, etc. DO NOT
serve minority people like myself any better, I may be a black person, but I have
NEVER used my skin-color as a weapon, I use common-sense, and I have NO respect for
people who use their race, skin-color, religion, ethnicity, etc. as a weapon!

Liberalism is a Mental Disorder!!!!

Andrew   July 23rd, 2009 - 2:04 pm

How is it possible that a man as intelligent as Professor Gates can be so stupid.

Reggie Greene / The Logistician   July 23rd, 2009 - 2:08 pm

We have three observations about the Harvard professor incident:

1. We find it interesting that the fact that this was the professor’s home was evidently not established early on way before the dispute escalated;

2. We find it fascinating that the versions of two members of society, who most would ordinarily view as responsible and honest citizens (this obviously does not include politicians), would vary so dramatically from a factual point of view.

3. Finally, considering that the reading and viewing public were not present at the scene (and thus have no first hand knowledge), and that there is no video tape to our knowledge of the sequence of events and what was said, how so many have formed conclusions, and made assumptions, about who did what and who was wrong.

4. There are some things which Professor Gates might have considered upon the arrival of the police, no matter how incensed he may have been.

Mike B   July 23rd, 2009 - 2:09 pm

It is obvious that professor Gates has a chip on his shoulder. Through his lenses every action towards him by a “white person” is suspect of being a racist act. In this simple example of a suspected breakin HE has to inject race into the situation to be the victom that he somehow needs to be to vindicate his view of the world. For an educated man he is a sad example of the problems facing America concerning race. I am afraid Obama is not too far behind him in his views. Sounds alot like Rev. Wright doesn’t it?

Jeff   July 23rd, 2009 - 2:20 pm

Fools of kind stick together! The black homeowner is in the wrong and is still making stupid statements “now I know how vulnerable black men are” How about ‘now I know what happens when someone fails to co-operate with a legitimate police operation’
Now the half black president sticks up for the black side even when it is in the wrong. Stupid and stupider.
What is really going on here is the police officer should have recognized the important black man and accorded him some special privilege and this is what the president is calling stupid because the policeman did not recognize the important black man and therefore he is stupid.

Sam   July 23rd, 2009 - 2:21 pm

Ken   July 23rd, 2009 - 2:54 pm

The sad thing is that Gate’s accusations reinforce in many blacks’ minds how racist our society is. You can see the response of many of the black audience members agreeing with a man that obviously has a chip on his shoulder. And Soledad’s performance is embarrassing. This segment seems like a CNN infomercial for Gates.

I love the passion white people are showing. They know the cop is wrong. They know cops abuse their authority and they know cops are trained to deal with high stress situations like professionals but yet they excuse this type of behavior. None of you were there but you’re sure the cop is telling the truth, the WHOLE truth and NOTHING BUT the truth. How sad the unified state of white America is…. are none of you courageous enough to say that what the cop did was wrong. You don’t arrest people in their homes because they make controversial statements. It’s like saying the cop can arrest him for burning the flag within the comfort of his home. This cop is stupid and anyone who supports him the light of the evidence is obviously racist, bigoted and/or stupid.

BB   July 23rd, 2009 - 3:34 pm

Gates is a Racist!!!

Al   July 23rd, 2009 - 3:35 pm

Alternately consider the charges of racism if 1)the Gates house was being robbed by actual black robbers 2) a neigbor reported it 3)cops responded 4)the robbers said it was their house and 5)the cops took their word and left without IDing them.

For the likes of race-baiters like Gates, I suggest Police Departments start using a “Do Not Respond” notice. It would work like a “Do Not Resuscitate” notice: Those who sign it would relieve the “racist” police from responding to any police emergency at their premise that does not jeopardize the safety or property of other people.

David   July 23rd, 2009 - 3:45 pm

This is a clear case of RACISM, Gates is nothing more than a racist! I would EXPECT the police to have handled the situation exactly as they did. They had probable cause to enter his house and follow him because he was a burglary suspect! What if it wasn’t his house and instead of getting ID he was fleeing out the back door! The suspect description was of a black male and Gates is a black male, cry over the fact you are black all you want but if the suspect was identified as a Hispanic male and it was me in my house I would not cry foul, I would applaud the polices diligence! Enough of the racism from the black community, you have no more complaint now that the President is a black man. GET OVER IT!

David   July 23rd, 2009 - 3:52 pm

As a response to the steroid cheating Barry Bonds, My comments are based completely on the words of Dr. Gates himself, I am not white and I just call it as I see it. Your comments further prove the point that racism in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is a problem caused now more by the black community than the white. Enough of your sense of entitlement, there hasn’t been slavery for 100s of years and it wasn’t/isn’t my problem! I and the people of the US don’t owe your community ANYTHING. It is time true equality is allowed to happen and people just work for what they get, in all communities, NO MORE HANDOUTS!

I agree with the interview. Black men are vulnerable. They are vulnurable to other black men. Anyone who has read any FBI reports on violent crime in the last 40 years knows blacks are murdered, robbed, assaulted, and raped by other blacks. It is over 90% in most of these categories.

Dorrie ny   July 23rd, 2009 - 4:19 pm

This is racism at it’s very worst..every time a white police officer tries to do his job and it involves a person of color it is called racism. When a person of color commits a crime against whites or his own it is called ???what????.. Suppose his home was being robbed and the police did nothing, would that racisim because it was the home of a black man??? Should police stop doing their job, if the crime involves a person of color??? What do they want?????

Lets consider the situation as it occurred:

While the policeman was looking at the id of a man standing behind a kicked-in front door of a home just reported as being broken into, and trying to figure out who the hell he was, this “intellegent” Haverrd professor immediately stated that the policeman was not “answering” his questions quickly enough because “he” was a black man.
How about he was “any” colored man who was in a house reported as being burglarized, standing behind a kicked door, and he had an enormous chip on his shoulder, and chose to “express” himself in a manner not unlike the good Reverend who told such a compelling story to his congregation, prompting the good prez Obama to ditch him asap.

Is it just clear to me that this Haverrd guy is the racist, and this is his hail mary pass at an opportunity to stick it to the white man, and it has been caught in an awkward, bumbling manner but none the less, caught in the endzone of a longshot legal opportunity for the professor, which he will no doubt exploit to the fullest?

albeit, with his brethren Jessie and Al at his side.

AlexB   July 23rd, 2009 - 4:48 pm

Let’s deal with facts, not baseless opinions.
Did two man force entry to the house?
If yes, then the report was accurate and the officer was there doing his job.

But after it was proven that Gates was the owner of the house, the officer should have apologize for the mistake, although it was not him who made the mistake, I think the apology is the proper thing to do to defuse the situation.

But since he didn’t he bears partial fault for what happened, he was probably pissed by the yelling and crude attitude of Mr. Gates, but I would think he should have acted professionally and tried to put himself in the place of Mr. Gates, imagine being accused of burglary inside your own house.

I would note though that Mr. Gates was out of line for saying that the officer didn’t know “who he was messing with”, that was a threat and would likely make anyone use his/her authority to make a point.
Should the police be reprimanded? No, absolutely not!
Should he apologize? I think it’s too late for it now, but if he does, it should be privately and not publicly, there was obviously a mistake, although it was not the officer’s, he’s the one in charge, he should apologize for the false report and suspicion, but not for the arrest.

…the beauty of all this is that the President of the United States of America, representing all of us, in his arrogance and inexperience, once again has lambasted one of the defenders of the laws of our country, without knowing the facts, thereby adding another limp to the crippling moral of the defenders of our country.
Could that be his plan? He’s a pretty intellegent guy, isn’t he?
If the decision making prowness or lack there of in a comment of “racism” by a “president” who is “black” about a situation that he has no knowledge of, exists at the top of
the govermental leadership ladder, what argument can be made to defend the ignorance of the people he is placing in positions of authority who are making decisions and comments of their own?

How many of his current decisions regarding other issues, ex:, economy, terror, are being made with this same technique of not knowing all the facts but immediately responding like he does?

James   July 23rd, 2009 - 5:09 pm

Professor Gates is well known in the Academic Community as a Pompus Racist Ass! I’m sick of it. I’m black, born in America and I’m sick of all the black Racists. Yes that is what I said “Black Racist”. I am ashamed that you Professor are the same color as me. Get over yourself and the next time you are asked to show your i.d. and you do this, I hope they throw away the key. As far as POTUS Barak O’Bummer, he needs to shut his mouth too! He knows nothing, is nothing, will amount to nothing. P.S. I hope someone breaks into your home Professor and steals you blind. And yes the cops will be there to help you because that is what they do. Professor Gates you are worthless!

go to factcheck.org. They have plenty of pics of it. Different angles, etc to show the stamp.

kmichaels   July 23rd, 2009 - 5:15 pm

How can a guy be proclaimed an expert and a great thinker when he is obviously a shallow thinker that does not give the cops any credit for behaving exactly as they should in a similar situation. He called him racist for investigating a reported break-in. It is that simple. He did not thank the officer for protecting his home, like most decent people would do, instead he shouted racism because some lowly white cop did not know who he was messing with. God, liberal professors are so mind numbingly stupid so very often. No wonder why studies coming from liberal colleges are thought to be so unreliable. Because we have self-serving idiots like Gates writing them.

Keith   July 23rd, 2009 - 5:28 pm

From a cops perepective.

1. You ask for ID because you have been told someone broke into the house.

2. The person who you do not know walks back into the house. You don’t know if he is the owner, you don’t know if he is going for a license or ID or going to grab a gun so you follow him.

3. Then you get a guy in your face yelling about illegal search, wanting your badge number etc and as you walk away he follows you and he says “gets in his face”.

4. This continues outside and acording to other reports you try to extricate yourself but he continues with the yelling, threats of who is is, etc.

5. You arrest him for Disorderly Conduct.

As an officer I have had similiar situations. Some are in fact the home owner. Some are not and were arrested for Breaking and Entering because they were not who they said they were. In addition, the citizen knows who the cop is, he has a badge and uniform. The cop does not know who the civilian is because people, good and bad do not wear name tags stating their name and/or their intent. One screw up, one second of inattentiveness, and the cop gets an Inspectors Funeral and his wife gets a flag and a bunch of useless words spoken by some political hack.

Obama, the Mayor, and the Police Chief should have kept their mouths shut, the PD should have initiated an investigation, and everyone should let the facts speak for themselves. And it all could have been solved by these few words:

Thanks Officer for responding to the complaint. I have my ID inside, do you mind if I grab it? Here you go. Thanks again and have a great day!

Instead, we have the professor in his own words: “In his face” Hey Professor, perhaps there is a lesson in here for you

thommyboy   July 23rd, 2009 - 5:43 pm

Harvards enrollment should drop significantly after this event!

Would you want to be taught by this racist?
Will the information received by this ass be of value to the outside world?

Is it worth the money you would have to pay to listen to this guy talk about the white man?

These are the guys that are keeping racism alive and well in the USA!
Good going professor, you have just set back progress for black people another 5-7 years.

Wait, thats what they said Dave Chappelle was doing,….

at least he made people laugh. What you did professor, makes people want to throw up.

Eduardo De La Torre   July 23rd, 2009 - 5:52 pm

I think both men had an ego trip. It’s just that one of them has the badge.

Even though I personally would never raise my voice at an officer, it’s not against the law and, once the officer saw Mr Gates lived there, why not defuse the situation and call it a day?

CommonSense   July 23rd, 2009 - 6:01 pm

Derek,
You are mistaken – there are many pictures there, but of a document that anyone can get after the fact.
Barrack Obama was not born Barrack Obama – it was Barry Sortero and back in 1961 they didn’t refer to peoples skin
color as African – if the question was “Race” then why white for the mother?
Anyway – it’s not a “Real Birth Certificate” i.e. mother and fathers name, hospital name, doctors name etc….
And even if it was his father was a British Subject at the time so he’s not a Naturalized Citizen as described in the Constitution.
You should read some of the wording about it. Here’s a little bit:
“4. December 24, 1952 to November 13, 1986
If, at the time of your birth, both your parents were U.S. citizens and at least one had a prior residence in the United States, you automatically acquired U.S. citizenship with no conditions for retaining it.

If only one parent was a U.S. citizen at the time of your birth, that parent must have resided in the United States for at least ten years, at least five of which had to be after the age of 16. There are no conditions placed on retaining this type of citizenship. If your one U.S. citizen parent is your father and you were born outside of marriage, the same rules apply if your father legally legitimated you before your 21st birthday and you were unmarried at the time. If legitimation occurred after November 14, 1986, your father must have established paternity prior to your 18th birthday, either by acknowledgment or by court order, and must have stated in writing that he would support you financially until your 18th birthday.”

ICONIC FREEDOM   July 23rd, 2009 - 6:05 pm

“he was trying to figure out who I was…are you not responding to me because you’re a white police officer and I’m a black man?”

This is totally racist!!!

Gates is clearly a racist – why would he ask the officer such a question? Why would Gates IMMEDIATELY think it’s about race?

There are a myriad of reasons the officer didn’t respond right away.

Gates immediately went for the race card so he could appear to be the victim.

baxter   July 23rd, 2009 - 6:05 pm

You put it all into perspective as an officer, Keith. It is the risk that each of our officers face each day. Instead of thanking the officer for checking on him he does this kind of stunt. And how embarrassing for our president to spout off with no knowledge. Kind of makes you think of what else he spouts off on and doesn’t know about. Shame on the president for such an emotional reaction.
What would the scenario be if there had been a burglary and no one showed up? Think on that, professor.

His story is so convoluted. He is a liar!
If it doesn’t makes sense it’s usually NOT TRUE!
His lead in irrelevant stuff designed to create symphaty.
He Says… I told him I live here. I’m a Harvard Professor…

What has being a Harvard professor to do with anything unless you expect
that being a professor makes you better then anyone and to give you a leg up.

If he was truly mistreated it would not matter if he was a professor
or a garbage man it would be wrong either way.
He was not mistreated.
He created a situation because he has a racial chip on his shoulder.
Shame on him! This country need unity not nonsense like this.
He is just like a women who cries rape when she wasn’t.
It makes it hard for true victims of rasicsm.

shipley130   July 23rd, 2009 - 6:52 pm

This makes me realize there are a lot of people that don’t want black people to be responsible for their actions. I’m shocked that a highly educated, assumed responsible black person would act in this manner. How about saying something like “Thanks Boston PD for checking out a possible crime being committed at my home”.

poetopoet   July 23rd, 2009 - 7:07 pm

I called my little Binkie, to say Harvard Yard will never be the same, we might have to move Binkie, I heard there is black man living in our neighbor hood. Binkie is hood a bad racial word? The Cambridge police had put to put him in hand shackles to restrain him, the you know who. Binkie will our new tan from Fiji, confuse use with them, Binkie lets go to Saint Tropez early this year Binkie.

Fang   July 23rd, 2009 - 7:18 pm

This incident is a dream come true for a man who makes his living on RACISM. This is what he does, just like Al Sharpton and the Rev Jessie Jackson. These frauds have bee stiring up RACISM for decades and using mafia like tatics to badger corporations to pay up or else. They all should have been charged with extortion and locked up long ago like the crooks they really are. But,thanks to their liberal and media enablers they’ve been allowed to parrot this nonsence for years and get away with it. But you know what? People aren’t buying it anymore. Even their so called fellow ‘black men standing up to racism’ are starting to see this as the money grab it is. Any black man with any sense of self worth should not fall for this charade.

Barry Bonds   July 23rd, 2009 - 7:23 pm

We all agree Gates probably is a jerk and probably a little arrogant. Now the question is does that behavior constitute a crime? No. Which is why the charges were dropped. The cop who is suppose to be a professional at dealing with the public lost his cool and showed force when it wasn’t necessary.

The professor might have been wrong in an civil sense and the cop is DEFINITELY wrong in a legal sense. Again, which is why the charges were dropped.

lvtalon   July 23rd, 2009 - 7:33 pm

————————————————————————————-

What’s the argument here, that the officer is unjust in his response because of his badge? The officer had no ego, just the opposite, he put up with a lot of abuse and did not retaliate.

Why expect the police officer to defuse the situation? He did nothing wrong.
Gates could have defused the situation if he’d stop yelling insults and being belligerent which he should not have started in the first place. You’re blaming the victim, Gates was wrong, not the officer.

Fang   July 23rd, 2009 - 7:33 pm

Barry Bonds,

Spin again. The officer was acting in his authority to arrest someone being disruptive and causing a PUBLIC disturbance. Read the police report. The police can drop charges if they want because THEY CAN, not because of admittance of wrong doing. There was no LEGAL ERROR, based on the report, on the part of the officer. And YOU don’t know WHY the charges were dropped.

This Man is a Professor? No wonder this Country is in the shape it’s in- I pity the Children who are being brainwashed by this imbicile.

bubb   July 23rd, 2009 - 7:57 pm

The guy was drunk. The cop should have just dropped his ass right there. I have lost all respect for this race. Why do blacks have such an attitude? Straighten up your act and you will be treated accordingly.

Fang   July 23rd, 2009 - 8:07 pm

Allright bubb,

Keep YOUR racist comments to yourself. Better yet, get a life. Yes, this kind of conduct is tiresome by those who use it routinely for their OWN PERSONAL GAIN. BUT, don’t condemn an ENTIRE RACE. 40 years of explotation on the part of liberals, media, black activists and the misguided have brought us to where we are. ‘CONDUCT OF CHARACTER, not the COLOR OF SKIN’ is what the dream was about.

Double A   July 23rd, 2009 - 8:51 pm

I have read the report and if the officers report and even if the officers report is 60% correct,
we got a big racist teaching our kids at Harvard. This guy is a fool and I believe he wanted
to be arrested to prove his claim amongst his peers, students ect… Dont think for one moment
that racism is un planned or spontaneous. White police have one hand tied as the blacks provacatively
scream racism. I live in S. Florida and quite frankly, I see alot more black officers and they
cuff white guys all day. Blacks are picked up by the hour for numerous reasons but since Obama
got elected, they( blacks) claim they arent guilty due to their “brotha” Obama. If society is
going to fall for this kind of BS, then you will have white offers conveniently not make calls
and fail to expediciously help legitimate victims of crime. The black race baiters had better find a
different game to remain a victim in society as their crying wolf all the time has a predictable
outcome.

yeswecantax&spend   July 23rd, 2009 - 9:08 pm

This guy, Gates, is a total fraud. He was just looking for his own little black man crusade so he can get himself in the spotlight. Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, etc. This behavior will NEVER give him the kind of respect that he seems to think he doesn’t get as a black man. The ‘yo mama’ talk is a complete embarrassment to him, Harvard, and respectable black people. He needs to shut up and get out of the spotlight. What a shameful representation of academia…not surprising that he is buddies with the racist, Obama. When will these guys start playing the LEADERSHIP card instead of the race card?

rob   July 23rd, 2009 - 9:21 pm

Remember cops are very intimidating. The officer should have never followed the man into his home, that was wrong. As for Gates and Obama claiming racism, this too is wrong! When cops do something wrong they will lie to cover their a– because they are human! Believe it because it’s true and the judge will always gives the police the benefit of the doubt. BUT there ARE corrupt cops out there and this cop had absolutely no right to follow this man into the man’s his home uninvited. Then again, Janet Reno broke into a home at 4:00AM in Florida and grabbed a minor child at gun point and arrested all the adults who were present. I wonder if Gates supported that intrusion on those peoples personal liberties. In fact, I think they were of Cuban ancestery, so I wonder if Gates would say that was a racist act by Reno and Clinton’s Justice Department?
.
In defense of the cop, I also think that Racism has become too subjective a term. It appears that Mr. Gates may believe that anyone who disagrees with him and is a different color, is likely a racist. It appears Gates has his own stereotypes and bias’ and gets a pass because he IS black. This is the ugliest form of racisim. Mr. Gates would do well to remember that in one’s effort to kill a monster (racism), it’s possible to become a monster (racist).

Concerned   July 23rd, 2009 - 9:28 pm

I don’t understand why an educated, open-minded person like Professor Gates has to jump to the conclusion that this is a racial issue. It sounds more like two men, both with a little too much authority, struggling over egos. I think they were both wrong. Gates reacted based on his assumptions about racial profiling and some apparent dislike of authority. The officer reacted because he didn’t like his authority being challenged and was on an ego trip.

It’s incredible that the media, the leaders of our country, the intellectuals and most of the rest of us make such snap judgments about race when so many other variables were at play.

Fang   July 23rd, 2009 - 10:16 pm

Rob,

“The officer should never of followed the man into HIS house”. How would the office KNOW at that point that is was GATE’S HOUSE? YOU assume that the OFFICER had ALL THE FACTS. He was responding to a report of a breakin IN PROGRESS and the WITNESS was PRESENT when the officer made his approach to the house. The problem with this ARMCHAIR response is that EVEYONE THINKS THEY HAVE ALL THE FACTS. READ THE POLICE REPORT. The officer HAS to act in a way that protects himself and the communnity. Put yourself in HIS shoes. If every police office has to put himself under this kind of srutiny for EVERY call…then ANCARCY will take place. THAT is precisly what the SOCIALIST ELEMNETS want. Don’t call them democrats, progressives, liberals, feminists, eviromentalists, ‘equal rightests’…..they are SOCIALISTS. THEY want to erode DEMOCRATIC society to replace it with their agenda. BLACKS are just a tool they use to create this divisiness. THIS is the larger issue at work here.

Barry Bonds   July 24th, 2009 - 9:33 am

Fang, sorry but your home and your porch is NOT a public space. And the charges were dropped, based on the evidence presented, because there was no crime. Now i know you have a vivid imagination and you have cooked up 1,001 different scenarios, involving Russian spies, crazed monkey’s, and an ‘84 Beetle, as to why the charges were dropped but it’s all there in black and white. The cop was wrong and stupid. Plain and simple.

poetopoet   July 24th, 2009 - 10:43 am

This is Water Gate for B.O. aka B.S., own stupidity. Professor Gates just had a break in at his house; the reason why he could not use his front door. And when a thoughtful female neighbor witnessed a break in at his side door, she called the police. This affirmative action scholar’s confrontational behavior with the officer; at first refusing to identify himself, then going into an endless irate shouting at the police; and warned twice, by the officer to calm down. Professor Gates followed the officer out the door still shouting obscenities at the officer, like “your white ass mama ill meet outside”; just as Mass. Senator J. Kerry’s will known plea “do you know who I am” yes indeed we do now Professor Gates, you’re an angered black man (don’t mess with) going no where fast in life. You over stated your affirmative action credentials, insulting the very person sworn to protect you, no matter your blackness or ignorance. You cheap s.o.b., fix your front door, maybe this would not have happened, unless you planed and knew it would go down this way. Now that’s what I call affirmative action Professor Gates, causing and initiating a racial incident, a black president made a judgment upon, calling the officer stupid. Yes he was stupid for protecting your useless black ass, push it further Professor and a lie detector will condemn you and all your black sympathizers, in a court of law.

Hmm when the cops kill someone or throw an old lady on the ground, its such a small glossed over issue. The media and the cop inions call it justified and people forget it.But when a black man gets harrased lol the president has something to say. This is ridiculous, this man is a scholar they say, well then he should know better.Check the FBI crime statistics,I don’t like cops,I think they don’t understandthe law.But I can forgive their caution when it comes to black suspects.I’m not being racist I’m just pointing to science.Look it up yourself. Its more newsworthy to tazer an old lady than to arrest someone who ws seen forcing a door.Maybe the cop was out of line although I don’t think so in this instance. But when some whitekid gets killed by a cop or an old lady gets abused wheres the prez?Obam is a fail like no other.I’m luvin it

Lou   July 24th, 2009 - 5:57 pm

Can you tell me why a police officer who taught a class on racial profiling was not the victim. I think he would know the appropriate thing to do. Gates picked the wrong cop.

Fang   July 24th, 2009 - 8:55 pm

Barry Bonds,

It is a PUBLIC disturbance even if you are on YOUR property. It’s the PUBLIC’s perception, not where YOU stand. The other stuff you had to say is just nonsense. Quit smokin crack.

Common Sense Wrote “Barrack Obama was not born Barrack Obama – it was Barry Sortero and back in 1961 they didn’t refer to peoples skin”

Barrack Obama was born Barack Hussein Obama II (From his Father), not Barry Soetoro. His Mother’s 1st Husband was Barack Hussein Obama Sr. Her Second Husband was Lolo Soetoro. When she married Lolo, he Adopted Barack and had his name Legally Change (in Indonesia) to Barry Soetoro and then registered him into a Muslim School. The School also had a Christian (Catholic) side to it, but according to Barry’s Teacher and Classmates, he was a Devout Muslim attending Quranic Studdies. Made his Muslim Step Father and his Communist Mother Proud. His Sister Maya Soetoro (Born of Lolo Soetoro and Stanley Ann Dunham Soetoro) was born in Jakarta, Indonesia. Somehow Maya Soetoro has the SAME Hawaiian Certification of Live Birth that Obama has.
