As someone who manages a university department that supports both PC and Apple computers for faculty and staff this story makes perfect sense to me. I’m certian the security people must be required to use some Apple products in their jobs – because if I had the opportunity to put three bullets through and Apple product for any reason I’d take it in a moment.
I want a still pic of that thing so I can add it to my collection of pictures of exploded, melted-down, smashed out of frustration Apple device that aren’t causing anyone grief anymore.

Having lived in Israel for most of my life, allow me to shed some light on what happened.
It is a common security practice in Israel when a suspicious, unattended bag or box is left in a public space, for the bomb squad to block off the area, move everyone back to a safe distance, and send in a robotic, gun-mounted, remote controlled bomb disposal device. We call it the “duck” and the first step in bomb disposal is to fire a few shots into the suspicious package. If it does not explode, it is then opened with the mechanical arms and unpacked at a safe distance. Once the package is deemed safe, it is repacked and taken to the nearest police station. If the owner is present for any step of this, they can claim the bag, at which point they must open it themselves to demonstrate that it is safe. This almost never happens (the owner is usually too embarrassed). Terrorism is a serious problem in Israel, and common unsuspecting citizens are the number one target, so we are all thankful that our country actually takes real and effective measures to protect us from these threats. The American girl left her bag unattended in an airport, it could have been stolen and then it wouldn’t be reimbursed. She is an idiot.
