Insurance Group Audit: Health Care Plan Will Raise Premiums

Fox News: Late Sunday, the industry trade group America's Health Insurance Plans sent its member companies a new accounting firm study that projects the legislation would add $1,700 a year to the cost of family coverage in 2013, when most of the major provisions in the bill would be in effect. Premiums for a single person would go up by $600 more than would be the case without the legislation, the PricewaterhouseCoopers analysis concluded in the study commissioned by the insurance group.

WOW—This needs to get out to the public at large. Think NBC will show anybody these numbers?? Doubtful.

This Health Care Bill–all five–are a total scam that’s going to cost the average family a barrel full of money.

Everybody needs to write their Congressman and Senators right now and tell them no more!!!!!

katy   October 12th, 2009 - 10:38 am

Good news! They finally grew some. No doubt with a little push from the American people!

Trent   October 12th, 2009 - 10:48 am

What a charade – Insurance companies WROTE THIS BILL. People started catching on wondering why Insurance companies just MIGHT be all in favor of people being MANDATED by government to BUY THEIR PRODUCT, so now they are creating some mock opposition for posturing. Oh, no, don’t throw us in the briar patch! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

kmichaels   October 12th, 2009 - 10:49 am

It does not matter who hired them, Price Waterhouse Cooper who did the audit is one of the top auditing firms in the world. It is a London based company.
And chances are that the costs will be even higher after just a few years of being in place. And the democrats of course will just use this as a stepping
stone to take more freedoms away from the people.

kmichaels   October 12th, 2009 - 10:50 am

Trent, you continue to be the moron supreme.

Does anybody know, much less care, who paid for this ’study’?

FastFacts   October 12th, 2009 - 12:21 pm

Is anyone surprised. The senate will tax insurance companies and demand they increase what they have to do to be a health company and yet they thought this would bring the prices down. They are very ignorant or just not thinking if they didn’t see this coming.

Poll out today on http://www.americanparchment.com – 44% Favor Health Care Reform, 50% Oppose.

H2K   October 12th, 2009 - 12:37 pm

What a surprise! The government will set the coverage benchmarks for the insurance industry (s3x change, HIV, low deductible, pre-existing conditions, etc), the state insurance regulators will continue to limit the choice of insurance companies to just a few, our taxes will subsidize the “free” government policies, the insurance companies will have to charge more, employees will bail out of private insurance and opt to pay the “fine”, people will bail out of the private insurance because of costs, and all that will be left is the government option.
Government will limit Medicare reimbursements, doctors will quite their practice because it is unprofitable, we’ll have a lack of doctors and and huge lack of specialists, expect huge waiting lines, expect rationing.

Let me ask you liberals a simple question that I’ve not seen answered adequately. Why is it that people in the UK have such horrible teeth?
Do you think that maybe there are a severe lack of dentists? Why is that?

Do you think we’re going to go down the same path? Why not?

what a joke!   October 12th, 2009 - 1:29 pm

BS. It would raise premiums for insurance companies IF insurance companies had to cover people they normally would reject. It’s a DECREASE for the healthcare system because sick people who can’t get insurance wouldn’t wait till they are near death and crying in pain before they go to the emergency room to get care.

The uninsured sick WILL get care one way or the other through emergency rooms who can’t turn them away or through reformed managed care. You are fools if you think you can just say well it’s not my problem and those people should go away, at least until you realize one day that you have become one of THOSE PEOPLE.

kmichaels   October 12th, 2009 - 1:29 pm

tom, does anybody know the quality of work this audit group does? So whoever paid for it is not meaningful. Especially since whoever pays for anything will have some opposition. The issue is reliability of those that do the work. Auditing firms are fairly unbiased.

WTF??   October 12th, 2009 - 1:35 pm

Well, seems to the rest of us that single payer was the only way to go after all! MORON GOP!

Trent   October 12th, 2009 - 2:08 pm

WTF?? – well, allow the nation to be over-run by an underclass and that no longer becomes an viable option.

WTF??   October 12th, 2009 - 2:11 pm

Notice that none of my posts ever make any sense. Yes, I am insane. Stark raving lunatic is what I am.

Really?   October 12th, 2009 - 2:20 pm

This study was conducted by the insurance companies. The same companies who refuse to give you medical care so they can take home millions of dollars in bonuses every year. You GOP morons believe it. How much money did these insurance companies pay your congressman? How many perks has your GOP congressman received from these insurance companies?

H2K   October 12th, 2009 - 2:40 pm

what a joke, WTF?? Really? Who’s the moron?
Who do you want to do the study? The current congress/senate doesn’t know anything about insurance and they are motivated for single payer so that they have more power over us. So, they’ll be against the insurance companies and will steer the outcome to however they want it.
You are throwing up a bunch of red herrings.
The government has created much of the problem with insurance companies. If the government would get out of the way, we would be able to have individuals buy insurance at better rates, you’d have insurance companies competing, and because there are over 1,300 insurance companies out there, rates would be driven very low. My guess with competition, the insurance companies couldn’t afford to pay exorbitant salaries and bonuses – because if they did, it would raise their cost of premiums and would make them non-competitive.
Remember lasik surgery and how expensive it as? Why is it cheap now? Competition.
Why is insurance expensive? Because of two things: 1) lack of tort reform – which causes doctors to prescribe more tests than are necessary and 2) state insurance regulators skew the market to set up a quasi-monopoly with too few insurance companies per market to compete.

For those that can’t afford insurance, give them tax incentives to buy their own insurance. Don’t do what you liberals do now with welfare and hand the underclass money and they end up buying big screen TVs and lottery tickets. Give them an insurance voucher and allow them to choose their own insurance. The companies will compete for their business and streamline their operations for efficiency.

Let the government do it? You will have one f***’d up system.

H2K   October 12th, 2009 - 2:45 pm

And to Really?
That is a ridiculous argument. If you have an insurance policy, they are LEGALLY BOUND to honor the terms of the policy. Liberals spread this absurd notion that insurance companies routinely reject valid claims. If they did, they would be sued out of existence. Some claims are invalid. Ever see those stings where a patient claims pain and suffering and the insurance companies investigate and find out the “patient” is training for a marathon?
As it turns out, the entity that rejects more insurance claims – Medicare – which is the government.

Really??   October 12th, 2009 - 2:54 pm

Actually, it was conducted by Price Waterhouse Cooper Auditing from the UK. Sorry if I was really stupid in my previous comments.

kmichaels   October 12th, 2009 - 2:55 pm

Really really is stupid
and WTF really is F’d up in his head.

kmichaels   October 12th, 2009 - 3:27 pm

The approach leftists take is to attack the messenger and ignore and avoid any discussion of the message or the facts therein. If the audit is incorrect, why can’t the leftists posting here show us how and why they are incorrect.

rover   October 12th, 2009 - 4:23 pm

obama will drive up the cost of everything insurance included on his way to ruining our once great country. Nothing new about that.

MUCK FEXICO II   October 12th, 2009 - 7:51 pm

I can not believe that the A-holes in charge of the land now can not put together the facts that the premiums WILL GO UP and there will be still….people without health insurance…

Teri   October 13th, 2009 - 7:49 am

This has ALREADY HAPPENED IN MA! I keep trying to tell people. Why doesn’t the whole country know about what has already happened.
