John the farmer was in the fertilized egg business. He had several hundred young layers (hens, called pullets and eight or ten roosters, whose job was to fertilize the eggs. The farmer kept records and any rooster that didn't perform went into the soup pot and was replaced.
That took an awful lot of his time so he bought a set of tiny bells and attached them to his roosters.
Each bell had a different tone so John could tell from a distance, which rooster was performing. Now he could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency report simply by listening to the bells.
The farmer's favorite rooster was old Butch, a very fine specimen he was too. But on this particular morning John noticed old Butch's bell hadn't rung at all! John went to investigate. The other roosters were chasing pullets, bells-a-ringing. The pullets, hearing the roosters coming, would run for cover.
But to Farmer John's amazement, Butch had his bell in his beak, so it couldn't ring. He'd sneak up on a pullet, do his job and walk on to the next one. John was so proud of Butch, he entered him in the county fair and Butch became an overnight sensation among the judges.
The result…The judges not only awarded Butch the "No Bell Piece Prize" but they also awarded him the "Pulletsurprise" as well.
Clearly Butch was a politician in the making. Who else but a politician could figure out how to win two of the most highly coveted awards on our planet by being the best at sneaking up on the populace and sticking it to them when they weren't paying attention?
And you can be sure we won't just end it, we will win it. Lets elect new Congressmen and restore the Old Dear Republic we love.

According to this morning's Wash. Times there are still some 50,000 troops in Iraq including Seecial Ops who are to some extent still engaged in combat. Further the Iraquis have a supposedly trained security force in excess of 200,000 men. If America wants to it can kill every body in Iraq but it cannot make Sunni's love Sheites. Nor can it permanently eliminate corruption in their government. I say we have done about all that can be done with a bunch of desert hill billies. So, get the hell out.

Even though there are 50,000 soldiers still in Iraq, and there continue to be casualties of our brave military brothers and sisters, Obama has made political points with his leftist base. I'll bet if you ask the average urban Obama voter, they'd think the military is actually "out" of Iraq.
Me personally, I'm with Mr Right above. Iraq is a shi.1thole that should have been dealt with by Daisy cutters instead of brave men and women. We can thank Colin Powell for the fact that we didn't take out Saddam back in 1990/1991 and avoided this. Over 4,000 troops died due to that terrible decision. Civilians, too.

Isn't it funny that he doesn't mention that this tentative deadline was promised to Iraq's President in 2008 by President Bush. He would not give a timeline because he did not want to strengthen Al-Qaeda but at the same time that deadline was President Bush and it was Bush that won the war. Everything that went on in the war after Obama changed the policies was his fault, the deadline though was not changed and so is Bush's 'fault.' Obama has little to take credit for. If he wants to take credit he needs to keep Iraq safe and remove our soldiers the 50,000 that are still in Iraq. The day the last brigade left Iraq http://www.americanparchment.com has been showing flashbacks of what was planned by Bush and what was changed by Obama and Obama has little to be credited for.
Maybe that's good news – 'I pledged I would end this war as president' – could that mean that he doesn't expect to be president much longer?

I agree with your comment. They are trying to jerk the armed forces around by keeping them there without allowing them to vote. They indeed, are the ones MOST important in our voting process. They have little other options in voicing their opinions…since they are hushed from any negative comments while enlisted.
I’m a firm believer, that any person, whether Military, Fireman, Policeman, or any person who risks their life in the PROTECTION of this country, should have all the major benefits this country offers.
Of course, soon I’m sure our military will be replaced by the Islamic militants our guys are now training.
And we will be ending your war against the American people in November!

Why is it so hard for the left to admit that we've won the war in Iraq? That the war is winnable in Afganistan? In his entire 5+ minute speech he couldn't make that concession. I can only assume that by admitting victory they would also be lending some credibility to the idea that the cause was just.
While I don't believe that a village full of Iraqis is worth the life of even one of our service members, I do believe that what we've done in Iraq is above reproach. We've brought democracy to a nation of people that have been held in the grip of tyranny for much too long. It's up to the Iraqi people to fight for that democracy just as we fight for ours. If the Iraqis give up that fight then they are doomed just as we are.
