Holy crap, when was this from? I definitely missed that one. I’ve been a huge fan of the Stern Show ever since I was a kid. Howard’s politics are kind of hard to pin, he’s basically a libertarian at heart (he did run a surprisingly strong campaign for NY Gov as a Libertarian, finally withdrawing and throwing his support to Pataki) but he really presents himself as basically a populist on issues where he doesn’t see how it affects him. I do believe Howard is an honest guy, but he obviously doesn’t pay too much attention to politics unless it directly affects him, so I’ve never taken him all that seriously on political issues.
I remember him being a big Bush guy for several years after 9/11, and slowly turned on him right when the MSM told him to. I wasn’t all that surprised however when Howard was basically the only one on the show that still wasn’t convinced by Obama leading up to the election. I remember one day hearing him say something like, “I’m sick of Bush and the Republicans, but Obama is clearly going to raise my taxes a lot, and I already pay well over half my income as it is, it’s not like I’ll have any money trouble, but how much is enough?” He still went with Obama anyway, probably to make his new, hot, young, wife happy. I’m glad to see he’s wising up though. Howard commands a dedicated audience…

Haven’t listened to Howard in years, (think I just outgrew him) but from my memory of his rantings I would say that Stern was more libertarian than anything else. He said he has voted for both Dems and Repubs, (and who amongst those of us who are not blind faithful followers of either have not?) are there really other serious choices folks? I believe Stern is for fiscal conservatism and social liberalism. Keep government small, Pay the damn bills on time, spend the taxpayers money wisely, and let people live whatever way they want and do whatever they do, AND LET THEM TAKE PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR OWN ACTIONS! ….That’s what we should all want. Live however you want to, just don’t tread on me.

Clearly Stern chickened out because 3 months later he ended up voting for Obama (although somewhat reluctant). He wasn’t exactly Obama’s biggest cheerleader. I can remember right after the Jermiah Wright stuff came out, Stern was fuming about it and vowed that there was 0% chance he would vote for Obama. He hated Obama at that point….that was until Hillary lost the primary and he pretty much had no choice but to succumb to the peer pressure from his fans, co-workers and family and vote for Obama.
What’s puzzled me though is how much of a cheerleader he has become for Obama ever since he won. First it seemed like he wasn’t too crazy about him, then he wins the Presidency and Stern is defending him time and time again and trashing FOX News, Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin endlessly.
If you’re conservative, don’t even bother tuning into Stern. His endless vicious rants about Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh are enough to make you want to drive your car off a bridge. He’s so incredibly bitter about both of them.
What’s funny about Stern is that right after 9/11 he was Bush’s biggest supporter. He wanted us to go over and bomb the hell out of the Middle East. But then around 2004 or so, he slowly turned against Bush (When it became popular to do so) and he supported Kerry for President.
Stern’s politics are strange, because he’s not a full-fledged Liberal, although he’s pretty much Liberal on most “Social” issues (Except for The Death Penalty), and he’s pretty conservative when it comes to “Fiscal” issues and “Foreign Policy”
Anyway, this Audio is 2 years old and he didn’t even live up to his word anyway. He ended up voting Obama and to this day still cheerleads for him and trashes Palin and Limbaugh regularly.
