Health care is a human RIGHT.

each living being values its life, and even if we don’t think it may be much of a life, it is THEIR life and only THEY have a right to decide how it is going to be lived. we OWE them respect and dignity.

we have a MORAL obligation to provide health care to take care of these lives when they fall !ll, or need help to get back on their feet.

we have a MORAL obligation to respect the owner of any life’s wishes, and it is our duty as fellow beings to do our best to make sure that no life is lost unnecessarily. it is our DUTY to respect each other, and to give each life that we can as dignified and peaceful an end as possible when that time comes. no one should be left to d i e alone, frightened and neglected, when it would be so simple to ease that burden for them simply with our presence.

we are our brother’s keeper, just as surely as we are our own. this is a referendum about health care to be sure, but it is also a referendum on our national humanity and compassion. i hope the last thirty years of neocon disaster have not hardened our hearts so much that we cannot find a way to level the playing field about this most basic of human RIGHTS, so no one has to suffer in silence or become homeless any more.

BTW any hospital that receives Federal money CAN NOT BY LAW turn anybody away if they don’t have insurance. So it would seem that Health Care is provided already.

Nobody is turned away from the emergency room. This poor woman would be given the same treatment as anyone else.

I know someone that works at a radiation center. He said that they literally would give full radiation treatments for cancer to someone that is living on a park bench. They have been joking about how they have been giving this treatment for free, and now the government wants to pay for it. I know a doctor that said that 30-40% of people that he treats never pay their bills. He looks at it the same as doing charity work. He actually would like the government to pay for the bills that are not being paid now.

I don’t want to see anyone suffer. It think we do have a moral obligation to help others and decrease the suffering in this world. I just don’t think forcing someone to help, against their will, is moral high ground.

What right does anyone have to take money from one person to give to another? Isn’t there an ethical problem with taking something that does not belong to you? How can you make someone work for someone else against their will? Who has the right to take your money?

If you want to donate to help people, that is free will. If you want to take someone in off the street at your own risk, that is free will. If you want to pay for someone to have insurance, that is free will. The day you force someone else to do it, I would call that slavery.

JC you are right, it’s my life. My life wish is to never be a slave. My life wish is that my money will never be taxed to fund an abortion. My life wish is to live as I want without someone telling me what I should think, feel, or how to spend my money.

If YOUR life wish is to give away all your money to fund an insurance program, go for it.

Mental healthcare has no effect if the person refuses to take medication. We used to have a system where we required the mentally ill to accept care and medication. But liberals claimed it was against the patient’s civil liberties. As usual, liberals put us between a rock and a hard place by not anticipating the results of their actions.

How exactly will this “right” to mental health also guarantee medication of the patient?

I think I have a right not to see a person on fire. But rights conflict with practical realities. Creating a law does not guarantee a course of behavior.

If you believe you are Jesus Christ, I agree that you should have a right to the medication that will cure you of your delusions. I think you can find the drug you need at the veterinarian’s office.

Hey Jesus I love how you’re trying to use this poor womens story, that’s not even been reported on, as a club to beat other people with regarding the issue of national health care policy. Virtually nothing is currently know about this lady. She has nothing to do with politics. So quit using her as some sort of societal victim.

But hey, since you’re being accusatory. When was the last time you volunteered to work with mentally ill patients or volunteered at the local nonprofit clinics? When was the last time you donated money to medical charities that deal directly with patients like say Smile Train, or St. Jude. I’m guessing not ever.

You can sit on your soap box and scream about societal responsibilities. Your welcome to spew platitudes about human rights or the take shots at the ‘neocons’, but the superiority based on what you feel is tiresome.

In the end, it’s individuals that help other individuals Society/government, as a whole, can’t and generally won’t. So quit bowing to the alter of nanny government and get out there and make a real change in someones life who needs it.

Would like to think that the new healthcare plan will allow doctors to:

A) Get paid for what they do
B) Have less chance of horrendous lawsuits which…
C) …drive up our insurance rates.

No one’s saying you won’t get treatment. But these things don’t pay for themselves. If you want to maintain quality healthcare in America, not wait for hours with a broken leg because your hospital doesn’t have 24/7 urgent care, you might want someone to start supporting the healthcare system.

It’s overburdened. That’s the problem.

Having a pre-existing condition since birth…I think both plans miss the mark. The cost needs to be addressed.
My situation: Insurance companies won’t give me health care coverage. I have to piggy back on a company’s plan. Unfortunately, my health makes it difficult to keep a full time job (my health deteriorates). Cobra coverage is too expensive when I am between jobs. Also, my medical bills killed my saving account.
The government plan will be no better. My health care will be watered down to save on cost.
Both plans will view me a costly participant.
The cost needs to be addressed…..

For the person who said “health care isn’t a right”, I hope you don’t get a catastrophic illness.
You will get a quick lesson on how the system treat people with illnesses. You could get on disability if you’re health meets the requirements (hope it doesn’t take you three years like most people). Your savings will disappear if you have any left. Next…the retirement. If you have insurance or disability insurance, that only last till the expenses hit a magic number.

The only reason all these neo-cons are angry is because they are not in control. Do you know why conservatives really say that states rights come before federal law? Particularly in Remote or low population areas?

1. “Boss Hogg” style politics that scapegoat a person or group and are involved in corruption on the local level.

2. The sticks are a great place to produce or distribute illegal drugs, particularly moonshine and meth.

3. In very underdeveloped or rural areas, it is very easy to murder someone or commit illegal vigilante justice and not get caught. When my mother moved down to Georgia and we walked into a diner when I was visiting, I asked why there were wanted notices with pictures of roughly 15-20 murder victims in the local area and asked how long the perpetrators went away for.

She said no one was arrested, and I made her take the plane home with me.

So when the neo-cons scream about bigger government, what they are really worried about is their gravy train of lucrative local corruption coming to the end of the line.

Wow, I didn’t realize it was possible for someone to be a bigot against rural areas! Actually, small towns and “the country” have lower murder rates than large cities and less drug use. You don’t think it is easy to be a victim of a violent crime in a city? Wow, check out some statistics…rape, robbery, murder…occur everyday in cities…rarely in rural areas.

It’s true…druggies from the “city” sometimes come and hide out in trailers and cook meth, and usually burn themselves up or get busted…because neighbors turn them in for the smell.

As for the states rights issue…hmm…might want to research history and read the Federalist Papers. The system was actually designed so that states wouldn’t lose their right to a representative government…so that they wouldn’t lose all their power to an overbearing Federal government…and so each state would have equal powers relative to other states.

As to the corruption claim…seriously do a little research. There is just as much corruption and hypocrisy on the left as on the right. I can’t watch TV without seeing a Democrat lying about the people attending town halls. These are obviously first time protesters and average American citizens who are upset at the thought of socialized medicine. They are not paid professionals. Do paid protesters: arrive in ones or twos or with their children, carrying home made signs and wearing t-shirts with slogans written in marks-a-lot? Come on!

If health care were a moral imperative why didn’t you demand that the ROMAN government provide government run health care when you walked on earth 2000 years ago? Why didnt you heal every sick person while you were on earth?
