The "not so easy" solution would be to spend billions to build a wall from California to Texas which the illegals will eventually dig under or jump over. The idea of removing the INCENTIVE for illegals to come here sounds to me much cheaper and more likely to succeed in the long run. Think about it.

I travel through the Nogales border entry once every few months. Besides specific points, the Arizona border is wide open.
The point of SB1070 is to catch the criminals once they get to the cities. In Tucson, illegals don't even hide; they drive. It's different in Phoenix because of the Sheriff, I think.
The illegal immigrant problem needs to take place on the border; otherwise, regardless of what laws we pass, it's already half lost.

I think that is the correct hospital, I could not remember the name of it when I posted. As for the 80%, I had heard / read the 70% figure before but the last time I heard anything about that hospital I thought they were up to 80 now.

Build the wall, bring back the Afghan and Iraq forces, and secure the border — after we get an American President. Helping, actually demanding, that they solve their problems is what should be done if we do anything at all. Taking all their refugees and importing their criminals and corruption will have those cameras showing starving, murdered, raped, and kidnapped Americans.

And one I think is more than a gesture. I have long thought our troops in the mideast would better serve the country here on our southern border. And because it IS an international border an arguable case could be made for their "presence" on US soil.
Also DDR, it might help folks on both sides. Drug cartels outgun most local law enforcement in both countries, but not our military. They out fight many overstretched civilian law agencies, but not our military. We have the finest fighting force in the world. They would not be, I imagine, intimidated, out gunned, or out smarted by our trained professionals, and ipso facto, our troops might 'neuter' their threat of violence in short order, thus establishing a more stable environment in which authorities on both sides could begin the hard work of closing off both the flow and the "fear based" need to try to cross into the US.
DDR….your plan could be PART one of step one. A wall, if built, won't be built in a week or month. Until it is built, we must be able to guarantee the safety of the workers building it. PART 2 would be to engage Mexican law enforcement folks to do the same on their side of the border….but this is sticky.
How to get Calderon to care about the safety of border citizens. How do we get Mexico to participate in this? For decades we've poured money to them for this…and for decades that money has been pocketed by corrupt officials in the capital city, the gov't in central Mexico. How do we get Mexico to do it's part to help secure the border states whose towns are in a real sense no different from the border area between Pakistan and A'stan, staging areas for drug cartels and coyotes…housing their drugs and "human goods" they intend to smuggle into the US?

Once again Obama "assumes a sterotype". They have brown skin, are poor, and foreign, ipso facto they will vote Democrat. Many if not most Hispanics here, and in Mexico are strongly family oriented, deeply religious and mostly Catholic, very moral and upstanding, AND CONSERVATIVE both in their view of society AND gov't. They distrust gov't, they manage their budgets, instill values such as a strong work ethic, honesty, and responsibility in their children. They do not, in short, fit the liberal mold and those I have met and have asked, distrust Muslims and find Islam deeply offensive, especially in its treatment of women and children.

The fence is important, but about half of all illegal immigrants came here legally, but then they overstayed their visas. We need to make life so uncomfortable for them that they want to go home.
How about they can't rent an apartment, get a cellphone, sign up for utilities, fill prescriptions, etc. (a lot more restrictions), without proof of valid residency.
E-Verify does NOT solve the problem. It helps, but it is easy to beat.
The way it works is this. The employer gets a SSN or ITIN from the employee along with a few other bits of personal info. The data are entered into a system online and then in relatively short time, approval is returned.
The way illegals get around this is that they borrow green cards and/or SSNs/ITINs from relatives or friends, use them, then leave the job before they get caught.
The way they get caught is when a SSN or ITIN shows up in multiple 941-A quarterly tax reports. It might take several months after the end of the quarter for the IRS to process the data. Then they send out a request for more proof of legal residency. The whole process can take 9-12 months.
By then, the illegal is on to the next job – and starts the process all over again.
Also keep in mind that a lot of illegal immigrants work under the table or for their own friends and family, who aren't using e-Verify.

I wanted to be certain of what or who you are referring to in your final paragraph. Was this a reply to someone else, or to my original post?
Reason I ask is twofold. One, I was not only born and raised in Texas but worked for 5 years in Terlingua and Lajitas, both of which sit on the Rio Grande and are a $2 boat trip away from Mexico. I've been shot at from the Mexican border side of the river myself, and know many of the ranchers down there who constantly battle coyotes and waves of illegals crossing their land, who cut their fences, tunnel under their land, steal their livestock, rob their homes, and steal their ranch vehicles. We spent a great deal of time working with DEA, INS, DPS and Texas Rangers in the area and were privileged to hear their thoughts and discussions about problems re illegal immigration. I currently live in Tucson, about an hour's drive from the Nogales border crossing, and live on the south west side of Tuscon which is predominantly Hispanic, so I have a pretty good "firsthand" knowledge of Mexicans, legal and illegal, of Mexican culture, Mexican gov't, and the problems of US border enforcement.

I believe my post is very clear about what I'm attempting to do which is to find workable solutions to the problem. No T.S., I know you're a fellow Texan (obviously) and you KNOW what you're talking about. Some of us live right next to the problem, and deal with it daily. I respect your opinion, and there's room for disagreement on this issue.
Most people think we can't logistically send 15 or 13 or whatever million people home. That doesn't mean we can't pick out who is here illegally and litigate some of these misguided ruling that recognize and equate non-citizens with illegal aliens. Services beyond emergency medical should ENDED and trhe "anchor baby" loop hole should be recinded.
The LESS comfortable it is here for illegals and the crime wave they spawn, the sooner we can deal with LEGAL citizen criminals and take of that mess. MS 13 and 18th in LA and Los Aztecas (our local crime wave) includes both illegal and legal criminals.

Yes, the aristocratic European Spanish that rule Mexico are doing an ethnic cleansing of as many of the Indian blood laborers as they can by encouraging them to go to America, work, send the money back to Mexico (billions), and stay in America as long as possible and live off our infrastructure at American taxpayer expense.

In fact back in the 90's the West Texas borderlands and really up to an hour's drive into Texas, mostly open ranchland for grazing cattle, was peppered with all kinds of radar devices, dishes, night detectors that allowed border patrol to quickly locate groups, at least those traveling above ground, so helos could round them up and turn them back.
I don't know if these radar tools are still in use……I know in AZ Ft Huachucha may use them and drones as well as a couple of hot air balloons with radar able to reach deeper into Mexico.
I also agree politics is the driving force behind either using or not using them. Bush may have eased up on their use for all I know, believing his guest worker program would cause the traffic to diminish on its own. I just don't have that information.
What we all know is that the US can secure our border. And when it becomes more politically expedient to secure it than not, they will. Till then, those of us on the border and near the border….. DUCK.
Also, on a side note, since it's come up about Eisenhower using US Military down here, as well as at least two other presidents…..the issue has been raised. US Military is NOT ALLOWED UNDER LAW to occupy US SOIL. now obviously this LAW has been suspended to allow these presidents to in fact deploy US troops, so do you know anything about that as far as what law had to be "suspended" or how these presidents did it legally?
It may as you say boil down to Obama having every right to ask this law be suspended, but not doing so. Or have we passed newer laws that prevent a president from doing that? Again, I just don't know. But if we did know, then we'd truly know this is all just politics, or we're never gonna be able to use the army to plug the leak.
Also, for that matter, what CAN the National Guard legally DO on the border? I heard someone discussing this issue and apparently even the State National Guard is limited in what they legally can and cannot do within a state. Again, is that because laws have not been "suspended" or cannot be suspended.
Questions worth answering before we jump on our horses and ride off in all directions. We really need to know the LEGAL limits of federal and state authority re the border deployment and security and the president and congress to MAKE SURE it's not just politics, but may be laws as well.

TexasStomp commiserates with the invaders out of a spirit of human compassion that their own country/government seems to lack. That's all well and good, EXCEPT the United States CANNOT AFFORD to take on millions of LOSERS (sorry, but that's the harsh reality) running away from their own society and government, only to have said LOSERS bring all their problems and costs into OUR system/society.
Yes, it is dreadful, a crying shame, that the Mexican/Central American/South American governments cannot seem to (or don't want to) get their sh*t together and create a society WORTH LIVING IN.
