Inner City kids cannot elevate themselves in any way as long as they remain in the inner city. Not only due to gang violence and hostility toward achievement, but also due to the pitiful curriculum in public schools and disproportionate administrators to teachers ratio. These schools are kept open despite the high failure rates to serve teacher’s unions filled to the brim with tenured failures, while the competent teachers’ protests fall on deaf ears. District school boards are often corrupt and self serving, ensuring their high-back leather chairs and large screen televisions are paid for while the students who cannot speak or write in complete sentences are made to take useless mandatory ‘courses’ in Sewing. Yep – sewing. Not as a part of Home Economics, as a stand alone class. The bright side is that fairly recently, Inner City single mothers are beginning to move out of government housing into the suburbs; they are tired of fearing for their childrens’ lives everytime they get on the school bus. [Although, this too has it's problems, as this exodus often brings with it visits from friends and relatives who are gang members]. The suburban public school curriculum is not much better, but at least school violence in the ‘burbs is the exception, not the rule. Where I live, there has been at least one youth murder a day since January of this year, Including an electrical engineering college graduate who was shot while celebrating his success in a pub. He was murdered over an argument over a girl.

So…what good did Obama do in Chicago and for Illinois? To be presidential, I would think that you would have left a positive mark on the last political scene you were involved in. What is the crime rate? What is the overall unemployment rate? What is the youth unemployment rate? What is the teen pregnancy rate? How many businesses are flocking to Chicago? How many are leaving? What is the incarceration rate?
Like ACORN was a stain on Obama – that he tried to distance himself from, so will be Chicago and Obama will distance himself from the crime rate.
We had one of these on a small scale in our mid-atlantic state. The current governor was the mayor of the capital city. Crime was increasing. Budget deficits were increasing. One person complained that it was student to teacher ratio. Utah, the most conservative state in the USA has worse student
to teacher ratios yet produces above average students. It is because all of the community works together with two involved

The Belleville bus incident was another another recent clear case of violent machismo being a highly regarded trait in the Black community; a beat-down of an outnumbered and defenseless schoolmate, conducted to the cheers of most of their fellow students. The father of the aggressor came to the defense of his boy instead of vowing to work with him to change his behavior. Just pathetic.
I would be terrified to be a black parent right now. They should stand up and join together to elimiate the violence, and find among themselves leaders who will steer their society to a higher plane. But why do that hard work when you can just blame the schools, the police, or racisism?

When my family came to Miami from Cuba we lived in the “inner city”. Neither my brother nor I joined gangs because our parents ( note plural term. My father actually was there ) were our best role models. More often than not, they whipped out a can of whoop-ass and installed respect, discipline and other values that are foreign to today’s “liberated”, single parent house but no “home” kids. The main culprit here is liberalism. This used to be a God-fearing country full of righteous people. Today, God has been driven out of the home, the school, the workplace, and government. The ever-present ACLU is always there to sue at the very mention of the word God. I remember people thrashing their records after that useful idiot John Lennon proclaimed that the Beatles were more popular than Christ. Contrast that with Kathy Griffin holding up her Emmy. or whatever, and saying “This is my god. Jesus, suck this”. How lovely. Recently Westchester, NY has been deemed “segregated” and settled a lawsuit with the feds. Ahhhhhh the dangers of taking federal money. Apparently low-income housing should be black housing. No other color or race is included in the case. Affluent towns have to build 700 units and rent them to black people or be fined by the federal government. Just don’t know how this will all work out.
We have to go into these hell holes and clean them out! Put 1/2 of them in prison if we have to. Forget drugs. Using a gun in a crime — life imprisonment. (I am a card carrying NRA member by the way) Aggravated assault 10 years. 2nd offense 40 years. Increase police presence to occupation levels. Tough if they don’t like it.

is it just me, or didn’t the guy who got killed come over to the melee and take a punch at one kid who was trying to leave the melee? shortly after taking that shot, he got clocked over his head by the guy with the board, and then another guy took a sucker punch on him as he was falling to the ground.
there is another version on line that is wider on-screen and shows him more clearly taking a punch at someone right before he gets hit, but he doesn’t appear to be an innocent by-stander by any means if we are talking about the same guy.
i also don’t understand why the media seems to uniformly accept the video operator’s proffered story that he was just shooting film. they guy was clearly enjoying what he was seeing, and i am not altogether certain that he didn’t come with his sister specifically because he had been told that he could see a fight.

No matter what color these children were, no matter who was or wasn’t an honor student, no matter who was a gangster or a thug; a child suffered a brutal, tragic death. A CHILD. Justice is swift in Chicago. A judge sentenced them to 5 years probation already. As part of their community service, they got jobs with ACORN. They were also required to do religious counselling in Reverend Wright’s church.
