Government’s ‘Cash for Clunkers’ Program Suspended After Just One Week

AP: The Transportation Department called congressional offices late Thursday to alert them to the decision to halt the program, which offered owners of old cars and trucks $3,500 or $4,500 toward a new, more fuel-efficient vehicle.

Another Failure   July 31st, 2009 - 4:44 am

Another glittering gewel of government incompetency. First they go in there at the EPA and change the fuel mileage ratings to eliminate a bunch of so called “clunkers”. Then they suspend the program after just one week. What a bunch of democrat idiots that pushed this thing through without reading it. A bunch of their voters just got crapped on once again. They ought to be used to it by now.

And they say they can run healthcare?

If the government can’t manage a minor program like this, how can they possibly manage health care?

I love the spin MSNBC put on this “report”. The fact that the O-we-screwed-up-again administration suspended the program wasn’t even mentioned until the end of the report…and then only as a casual remark. (Shoot, I was even all ready to go out and trade my gas-guzzling clunker in for a new fuel-efficient car…until the reporterette said it had been stopped, he he he.)

If I was an auto dealer that had placed (expensive) ads for this upcoming weekend hoping to pull in some C4C business, WHOOPS. Around my town, ads have to be in by Tuesday for color printing. The remaining Demwit, liberal, Obama azzkissing auto dealers got screwed and thrown under the bus of Hope & Change. Also gonna be a lot of angry folks with those ads in hand looking to buy a new car this weekend that are going to be disappointed.

You’re right on the money bud. I can see it now…

“I’m sorry Mr. Smith, we are all out of chemotherepy this month. Come back next month.” Or,

“NURSE, NURSE, Crash Cart to Room 1432, STAT!!! Patient is experiencing heart failure!”…”I’m sorry Doctor, the lease payment on our Crash Carts wasn’t made this month by the National Health Control and Evasion Council, and the medical equipment company picked all of them up.”

I guess not enough people buying from Government Motors. The libs had to pull the plug once they discovered the peasants were supporting the evil capitalists.

“So far it’s getting HIGH MARKS…..” What an idiot! Free Lunches / renamed wellfare / taking advantage of Al Gore Religion is more of what it is.
The fact that this stupid Administration came up with this dumb idea with no real though says it all. And these people are supposed to run our Healt Care?
Wake up people! Term Limits NOW! Vote against anyone who’s been in their position for more than 4 years regardless of party!

Have to agree with most of the posters…..Hard to believe this administration can’t manage a program. Just a glimpse of the future folks!

It's a great program!   July 31st, 2009 - 1:21 pm

This is just proof of an incentive program that is wildly popular and will help to stimulate the economy. It’s no different from incentives from private corporations that take off and have an even bigger response than was anticipated. It’s nothing new and it’s certainly not evidence of bad manangement.

This is an incentive program not healthcare.

I am poor, I voted for Obama and he is offering me $3000,00 of some person’s tax money. I dont know the guy. Probably some fat rich white guy so no big deal for him if I get some of my entitlements that are rightfully due me since I did get off my fat arse and vote for Obama after all. You see, it is incentive for me to keep voting for the democrats who do a good job justifying stealing from my rich neighbors. Hey, they are not very nice. They had a barbeque and refused to give me and my friends some of the food. Hell, there were only twenty of us and I am sure they had extra. That is why Obama should help us out here next time we are hungry. I was afraid that if we took the food ourselves we might get arrested. But if Obama has the government take it for us then it is legal. That is why I like Obama. This is a wonderful incentive program.

kmichaels   July 31st, 2009 - 3:37 pm

That’s funny, I’ve seen about 75% of these “rich fat white guys” taking advantage of the program, even though they opposed it and still do. They were purchasing in disguise of course, just like all the right wing nutjobs hiding behind their plastic Jesus.

kmichaels   July 31st, 2009 - 3:38 pm

Just kidding, the only people I saw taking advantage of this situation was people with Obama/Biden on their old cars being traded in.

kmichaels   July 31st, 2009 - 3:40 pm

You see, it was an obvious joke since rich white guys usually drive brand new cars.

Barry Obama   July 31st, 2009 - 3:44 pm

Like I said before, I misspoke when I said that we had to spread the wealth around. So dont for a moment think that giving poor car owners 3000 dollars of somebody else’s tax money is the same as spreading the wealth around. And the stimulus program was not spreading the wealth around, and free health care is not spreading the health around. And I did not bow to the saudi king, I have no idea who Ayers was. I dont know any Larry Sinclair. I did not call the white police stupid. I did not hear Wright say anything anti-American, I was never a muslim and I did show all valid documentation of my past. Just ask me. I will give it to you straight.

HELP ALL OR NONE...   July 31st, 2009 - 5:22 pm

HE11, WHY DON’T THEY GIVE THE SAME CASH FOR CLUNKERS TO *ALL* PERSONS WANTING TO TRADE IN THEIR OLD, DECREPIT, SMOG-PRODUCING CARS, NOT JUST TO IDIOTS WHO BOUGHT BIG, GREEDY GAS-GUZZLERS??? Plenty of OLD cars on the highways are spewing huge amounts of smog-producing toxins because they’re old and worn out and inefficient. Most of those cars barely pass smog-tests, but people are too poor to buy new cars.

HELP THEM, TOO, NOT JUST THE SUV-IDIOTS!
