Gingrich: ‘I Aim to Win a Sweeping, Decisive Election in 2012′

"I believe if we are the alternative party, not the opposition party, we have a chance to take the house in 2010, I aim to win a sweeping, decisive election in 2012, and we will not win that election as the opposition party, but we could win it as the alternative party. And frankly, Obama is showing you the danger of running as an opposition party, not an alternative party because he pretended to be a centrist who would accommodate many broad values when he ran as a candidate, he has since proven to be part of a machine, and as a result the disillusionment is much deeper than it would have been if he had campaigned openly and accurately on what he intended to do."

You MUST be talking about the present baffoon in the office he doesn’t deserve or respect. Either that or your two observations of yourself are true. Newt would do a wonderful job as pres….GO!!!!

Gingrich,   January 26th, 2010 - 1:17 pm

Thank you for speaking out. The people need to hear how the Republican Party can take the house in 2010 and have a decisive election in 2012. There needs to be more than hype but solid plans. The people bought all of Obama’s hype in the 2008 election, now BO is using some of the ideas that McCain presented during the elections, you know the ones Obama critized during the campaign but now considers much more viable as his own. Republican’s need a solid candidate for 2012 if you are the guy, start making your case so we can review the important issues with you. Republicans want a conservative candidate, who can beat the manchild. Liberals are still drinking the coolaid and are blind to Obama’s faults so do not pander to progressive ideas. Liberals are not your audience. Speak to the conservatives and disallusioned independents.

jason   January 26th, 2010 - 1:31 pm

Let me tell you something Newton.
YOU will not stategize OUR revolution. If we had listened to you we’d have a Pro-Abortion, Liberal RINO in the seat from NY. YOU and the Republican Party failed to support a Conservative. The cover has been blown.

YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM – and all RINOS will be dealt with in Nov. as well.

Get back to the basics, Freedom – Not NWO, you Molech worshippin’ HACK.

TAKE THIS HEADLINE DOWN! I don’t like Gingrich but this is misleading and the kind of trick I’d expect from the left.

He does NOT say: ‘I Aim to Win a Sweeping, Decisive Election in 2012′

Listen to if 10 more times if you have to.
Instead of “I AIM” he says “UH, AND”.

Come on people!!! Don’t turn this site into something like Media Matters.

CallaTeYa!   January 26th, 2010 - 2:34 pm

I could have sworn, last I heard, Newt signed on to the Grab-n’-take thing. Newt’s not what he pretended to be 20 years ago. Don’t need Democrat light. Don’t care about a Republican–need conservatives.

SILQUIN   January 26th, 2010 - 3:02 pm

The reason why Obama ran as someone HE IS NOT and mostly on policies he had no intentions of implementing is because if he had HE WOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN ELECTED POTUS. He threw the bait (enhanced by a mindless liberal media) and the American electorate swallowed it whole! HE lied then and he has continued to lie and lie for a solid year. Everything that comes out of his mouth is a lie or a half thruth at best. He thinks that by reading his teleprompter and delegating the job of governing to his left wing buddies, he will keep everyone in the bag.He “missunderestimated” (Bush dixit) the unbreakable, freedom loving spirit of the American people. Barry Soetoro: YOU ARE FIRED and have nine months to govern. For the ensuing three years you will have ample time to find yourslef a new gigg more suited to your teleprompter reading skills.

Mustang Sally   January 26th, 2010 - 3:21 pm

Newt, you are a plastic banana.

Let’s see…Newt, you abandoned three wives for greener pastures.

Newt, you threw away Biblical Christianity.

Newt, you praised Obama. You elevate RINOS while bad mouthing REAL Conservatives, especially your vitriolic unsolicited comments regarding Rush.

….sorry Newt. Please! Go the way of Arlen Specter.

….sadly your (new) religion will meet him in the afterlife.

Sean   January 26th, 2010 - 3:22 pm

Listen carefully. He does NOT say “I aim to win a sweeping, decisive election in 2012.” Instead, he starts to say “I…” and then interrupts himself. This is a more accurate rendering of what he says: “… we have a chance to take the house in 2010, I, and to win a sweeping, decisive election in 2012.” What Newt says is right on the money; Republicans can retake both houses of Congress and the White House if they simply show how they’re different from Dems instead of opposing them.

H2K   January 26th, 2010 - 3:33 pm

What’s wrong with being the opposition party, Newt?
In my mind, a stalemated president, congress, and senate is the best thing for America – except when it comes to national security.

The man born: Newton Leroy McPherson, you are a phony.

You enlist canard, distortion of facts, dishonesty, dissimulation to advance your agenda….which is yourself.

You are a man of marital infidelity.

You are a man of religious infidelity.

You are a phony political operative.

You enlist devise in order to manipulate and FOOL the people.

John Adams   January 26th, 2010 - 4:21 pm

Newt routinely likes promiscuous media intercourse.

Newt supports the RINO machine.

Newt is a puffy man that consorts with the liberal media.

Newt has no particular political, marital, or religious fidelity.

He has breezed through marriages of three women.

Newt abandoned the Biblical religion that served him in his former political ambitions.

Newt has gratuitously bad-mouthed conservatives – including Rush Limbaugh, and taken nasty swipes at Sarah Palin.

Newton Leroy McPherson, has forfeited any remnant of respect he might have retained as the standard-bearer of the conservative congressional revolution of 1994.

Go to Chappaquiddick Newt!!!!!!!

Sai Chai   January 26th, 2010 - 4:47 pm

Newt, you had your turn and your chance -a BIG one – and you blew it. The Republican Party in the polls still rates lower than the Democrats. Do you (and they) not get it that we don’t want RINO’s like you back in office? Please speak out when you have something intelligent to say, but please stay in retirment. We don’t need re-tread politicians. Real FISCAL AND SOCIAL CONSERVATIVES can only be done harm by your running for anything except dog catcher.

Humbert Humbert   January 26th, 2010 - 4:49 pm

In the words of Vladimir Nabokov who wrote “Lolita” -

“What’s not to like about Newton Gingrich?”

Nabokov, in all his fiction, writes with incomparable penetration about delusion ….

“Even Lolita, especially Lolita, is a study in tyranny”.

Newton Gingrich is a study in how RINO-Republicans have been seduced into conniving in their violation on Conservativism.

George W. Bush and Senator Rick Santorum. Or, Chistopher Shays, Wendell Willkie,…. Mike Huckabee, …Thomas E. Dewey, former Senator Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island,….Dwight D. Eisenhower, Richard Shelby, ….Richard Nixon, and Gerald Ford…..or, …………. Lindsey Graham, John McCain, Chuck Hagel, or Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan and the governator of CA.

Sam Spleen   January 26th, 2010 - 5:57 pm

Newt Gingrich lives in a protected swaddle, in a world bubble of sophistical Hannity style media adulation that does not reflect real conservative America.

He is clueless as to how intense the dislike, or, extreme aversion to him personally, or the repulsion to his pandering to the liberal media runs.

Newt’s disfavor and disgust among Conservatives is profound.

Whatwhatwhat   January 26th, 2010 - 5:59 pm

Well, at least you nutbags can tell the truth about rethugs and conservatives not being an alternative. Not one single poll shows conservatives or rethugs more popular than Democrats. The American People know you’re not an alternative, you’re a nutty fringe bunch of T-baggers.

Oh…and Scott Brown is pro-choice by the way.

Joe Ryder   January 26th, 2010 - 7:51 pm

RogerCfromSD   January 26th, 2010 - 9:18 pm

Newt does not speak for this Conservative. If anything, his desire for relevance is only going to muck things up.

So, let’s cut to the chase: No, Newt. The GOP will not be all “big tenty” any longer. It will be about principle before party.

If “Moderates” want to be accommodating, let them join the Democrap Party. The GOP will stand for core Conservative values, or we will form our own party and fund that.

After the McCain fiasco, we will never again be dictated to, or have our nominees selected for us.

Oh, and Newt, take McCain and his useless daughter with you.

Lee__   January 26th, 2010 - 9:46 pm

Newt could serve a conservative administration in some form, but this guy’s time has past with way too much sucking up to liberals. How about ambassador to Venezuela or something.

Buford T Justice   January 26th, 2010 - 9:47 pm

The day I saw Gingrich on a bench with Pelosi lying to us about manmade global warming was the end of Newt.

Run along, Newt, you’re not welcome here anymore!

Greg Zotta   January 26th, 2010 - 9:54 pm

Newt tell us something we don’t already know. The American people are waking up to the radical agenda of the Obama administration and the Dems/Statists. Common Sense Conservatism is rising again and the Statists day is coming in November. Talk about Bill (The Rapist) Clinton and the economy. He happened to be President at the right time when the Internet was just taking off. Whitewater was a crooked land sales scheme, where they ripped off a lot of people. The Clinton’s did not go to jail. Bill and Hillary loathed the military. Don’t forget all of the bodies floating around the Clintons, Vince Foster, Ron Brown, etc.
I question if Newt Gingrich is a real common sense conservative Republican? Below is why I question him.
Gary Gill was running against Missouri 3rd District Democrat Representative Dick Gephardt and he was leading in the polls until Newt praised Gephardt. Gill ended up losing the election.
Newt made the Contract with America that helped the Republicans win the US House in 1994.
What did the Republicans do after they won the US House in 1994?
In 2005 he teamed up with Hillary Clinton on National Healthcare and claimed she would be a formidable candidate for President.
He stated the Era of Reagan Conservatism is over.
He did a Climate Change commercial with Pelosi.
He teamed up with Sharpton on education.
Newt backed Dede Scozzafava in the New York Congressional race.
Newt was on Greta and commented to her, “You strengthen yourself by attracting more people than by driving them away,” implying that you must compromise your conservative principles in order to expand the party.
I believe you stand on conservative principles & let the people come to you.
Is he positioning himself to run for President as a middle of the roader?
Yes.
Greg Zotta

Ive read all the comments here..I have kinda followed Newt over the years and I think he is extremely thoughtful. yea he has some Washington baggage but i like the way he analysis problems and breaks them down to their basic components and suggests ways to make it better. do i like all his ideas ? probably not..but i would be a fool to waste his insight when given the chance to have it.

Alternate? Opposition? What are you talking about? You should just Go Away! My sister has pictures of you and your ‘girlfriend’ when you were still married to your wife at a Dean Ornish seminar in Berkeley, CA. The pictures, as one might say, are quite revealing and leave nothing to the imagination (and you passed her off as your sister…) What a cheater you were! Can’t forget about that, can we, Newt? Especially when you profess to be such a do-gooder…sorry…maybe another lifetime…

New Newt is Neutered   January 27th, 2010 - 12:12 am

Gotta give Newt props for the “Contract With America” during the Clinton “reign” (ughhh… that guy still makes me sick) but he certainly has changed since then – not in a good way. Get back to your roots Newt before you are just another despised RINO footnote in American history. And don’t EVER talk crap about Reaganomics if you want to win another election as a Republican. As of now I would never vote for you in a Primary.

SanFranciscoGo   January 27th, 2010 - 12:12 am

I lot of Conservatives are wondering how a good Republican got fooled by Scozzafava…

Also, Conservatives are a little tired of those “surveys” that we get the mail. You could ask
for donations in a more sincere, less patronizing way and we are tired of being “CSPAN”ed, by anyone.

New Newt is Neutered   January 27th, 2010 - 12:16 am

… btw, it was not Clinton’s or Newt’s infidelities that are my main gripe… those things can be forgiven and forgotten… but ideology is another matter. Screwing your interns and secretary is one thing… screwing America is an entirely different ball of wax. Just my 2 cents.

eor   January 27th, 2010 - 12:36 am

Calvin&Hobbes   January 27th, 2010 - 1:41 am

I kept giving Newt Gingrich the benefit of the doubt, but after backing Dede Scozzafava in the New York state Congressional race, that was the last straw.

Just another RINO.

A McCain wanna be.

quivive   January 27th, 2010 - 2:11 am

Newt while not perfect is right more often than not. This country is starving for a pragmatic leader. Newt is cut from that clothe. He would govern like a conservative. Not a progressive like McCain but more in line with Reagan. He would deal with the problems at hand. Folks, next to Reagan he was best conservative leader we’ve had. Good things happened under his speakership in the mid 90’s from a balanced budget and welfare to a roll back of congressional perks. The 2012 draft of conservative candidates is packed. However, the job will be even harder than when Reagan jolted us back on track. But this country will once again thrive. The current President no matter how hard he tries can’t stop us.

badcrow   January 27th, 2010 - 6:15 am

Sorry Newt, but you could’nt get elected dogcatcher.

And if the rest of the Republican Party thinks their going to ride their RINO candidates in on the coat tails of the T.E.A. party outrage–they’ve got another think comin’.

We want real conservatives that are NOT compromisers, and are not beholding to the special interests.

Reduce all taxes, at all levels, now. Without reductions in services or performance of Gov’t. You have enough of our money, plenty of cash to do what needs be done, make government smaller and more efficient, and STOP THE CORRUPTION!

I’ll tell you one certainty about the 2010 and 2012 elections. If Republicans ignore the people, and try to foist “compromise,” or “left-center” candidates on us, they will be crushed!

ANN   January 27th, 2010 - 6:36 am

Just GO Away Newt !!

NOQTR4TR8RS   January 27th, 2010 - 8:05 am

I haven’t forgotten. As Speaker of the House, Gingrich repeatedly failed to uphold his oath of office by failing to defend the Second Amendment. He was rated “D” by Gun Owners of America, and that’s just not good enough. I will do everything in my power to see to it that Gingrich never serves in elective office again.

R Nelson   January 27th, 2010 - 8:53 am

Ok, I’m fully in the tea party camp, very, very conservative, and I will acknowledge that Newt has made quite a few mistakes. So I certainly understand much of the criticism and disappointment expressed in the comments above. However, consider folks, that what he is saying might be true. Granted he is too liberal to my taste on a few points, but we don’t have a shot at winning the 2012 election and getting the manchild out of office without ensuring that the message is sufficiently positive and sufficiently substantive rather than merely oppositional. So, don’t support Newt as a candidate, fine, but the man is brilliant and the conservative movement needs him as badly as the Colts need Peyton Manning.

C Gergen   January 27th, 2010 - 9:28 am

As a conservative I would never even consider voting for this guy. He is a Washington insider just like the rest of them. He has no shot at winning and should aim at being support staff at best. His day came and went and he missed it. If the conservatives let him run we’ll have Obama for 4 more years.

Buford T Justice   January 27th, 2010 - 9:47 am

Judging by the comments so far, I’d say Newt’s trial balloon has gone limp.

Miz Cleo   January 27th, 2010 - 9:50 am

EARTH TO NEWT: YOU WILL NOT BE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!

I am a conservative who would never vote for NG. He is in denial about his past, present and future. I have no confidence that he could lead this country.

Sorry sweets, you’re done.
John Thune/Palin 2012!

Democrats should pray that Newt is the Republican candidate in 2012. Republicans will be doomed! But, Newt can take heart knowing he will have DeDe Scozzafava’s vote. Not mine!!

Samuel Smith   January 27th, 2010 - 10:18 am

I agree with the above comment, to a certain degree. I don’t know much about Gingrich..haven’t researched enough. From what I hear, I don’t like him. But I’m telling you something, he’s right on the money!

I am a DIE-HARD CONSERVATIVE. And I analyze political landscapes, as I’m sure you all do. I can tell you–and I’m sure you’ll agree with me–that the large majority of American people are sick of negativity. That includes lots of things. Negativity includes grand fraud, petty political disputes, unfaithful people, back-stabbing friends, murders, kidnappings, bad hair days, Obama vs. Congress battles, the economy, the wars, you name it. We’ve all been hearing about negative things for a LONG TIME. So, in order for the conservative agenda to win, we need to have a strong, firm, moral man who knows his principles, and we need to run him on a positive, looking-towards-the-future platform. We will WIN THOSE BATTLES. We will BRING OUR BOYS HOME. We will FIGHT THE JIHADISTS. We will LET CAPITALISM RULE! We will PROMOTE EDUCATIONAL HELPS. We will CRACK DOWN ON CRIME! Et cetera.

NEGATIVITY WON’T WORK IN 2010 OR 2012!!!!!

Will R   January 27th, 2010 - 10:39 am

The last thing this country needs is another rino like Newt or McCain. If McCain had his way, he would legalise 30 MILLION illegals, and there would never be another Republican or conservative elected in this country again.

3) Term limits on ALL elected officials and a revocation of all elected officials retirement perks.

This would be my contract with America.

2) A 10% reduction of ALL federal social programs each year for the next 25 years.
3) Term limits on ALL elected officials and a revocation of all elected officials retirement perks.

This would be my contract with America.

Let me add the reduction of the powers of the EPA and a review of ALL rules and regulations.
The NEA stripped of national level powers and reduced to only state level.
ACORN disassembled and ALL the other names they go by AFTER they are audited.
The Fed suspended, audited, THEN shut down and ALL money produced and maintained going back to the treasury dept.
More inspectors to look for Medicare/Medicaid fraud.
ALL VA AND military facilities inspected and improved or SHUT DOWN!
I’m sure I could think of more but it’s early…….

Newt wants a new contract with America.Hmmmm he should work on keeping his contracts with his wives first.I used to like him untill he tossed a woman dieing of cancer under the bus.A few years later EDWARDS does the same thing.Thats the catagory I place him in now.John Edwards and Gingrich are 2 peas in a pod.

Kitty Soma   January 28th, 2010 - 8:51 am

He’s quoted wrong. He says “and uh…” not “I aim”.

Newt,
Do us all a HUGE favor and don’t waste your time and money running for ANY posistion in the Republican Party, as you are NOT WELCOME HERE.We are in the process of weeding out the RINOS and that includes you. What gives you the idea that you could actually win in 2012????If you went out on the streets in America and asked the voters you would get a resounding NOT NO, BUT HELL NO. You have had your day and and squandered it badly. You have acquired the ‘jimmy carter’ disease. Each time we think he is back on his peanut farm he shows up on television and says something that reminds us all of what a TERRIBLE president he was.Take an aspirin and don’t call in the morning or any other day of the week. Stick a fork in Newt, HE’S DONE!

You wrote as though the Contract With America was not a good thing and nothing was accomplished. I beg to differ with you. Spending was cut, we had growth and Bill Clinton got the benefit of the “projected surplus” which today is still used to beat Republicans over the head because Clinton left a humongous surplus.
As for the divorce papers he supposedly delivered to his wife in the hospital with cancer, I don’t figure any one on these boards were there nor were they privy to this couples private matters and for all you know perhaps she wanted the divorce. Perhaps she was the one who instigated it.

I think Mr. Gingrich is awesome. He is one of the few leaders that works diligently at preserving
our Country with the freedoms allowed by the Constitution. As we are witnessing, there are so
many misguided and power hungry leaders. I would hope that he would run for office. I believe he
would unify our Country which is what we so desperately need!

In reading all the past comments regarding Newt may you be reminded of the old saying,
“those that are without sin cast the first stone”. I don’t think anyone
living is free of wrongdoing. What is important is if we learn from it. Mr. Obama
may be leading us down a path far worse affecting many more lives. Who is the better
of the two?

Lisa   January 28th, 2010 - 1:47 pm

Jesus, anything has to be better than the “Community Organizer in Chief” we have now. Let’s just hope there is an economy to save in 2012. With all the damage that’s been done in a year, midterm elections in 2010 can’t come quick enough!!!

Hilda S   January 28th, 2010 - 7:21 pm

With all due respect to Mr. Gingrich, I agree that he would be a poor choice for the GOP in 2012. His comments are accurate but Mr. Gingrich is very much an opportunistic politician. I would not trust him to give reliable leadership to the Republican Party and I am very much relieved to see others share a similar opinion.

Newt
The current anger with washington is with all of the current seat holders. Republician & Democrat you are not listening. WE WANT REAL CHANGE IN WASHINGTON.
Change is what elected Obama. I refuse to give money to either party. WE should vote all of them out and start over. Term limits were the begining of the anger.
Term limits was the seed that has now grown into a tea plant. The old ways of doing things will not change until all seats are replaced along with the office personel who keep writing legislation we don’t want or need. Washington has to play by rules which all of us are subject to. Pay raises on merit, insurance is equal within pay rank
no special deal for the ruling party or because you are elected to office. How can you talk about any issues if they will never have an effect on your life. Come join us in the private sector.

eddie333   January 28th, 2010 - 8:54 pm

Newt, if you ran for dog catcher, I still wouldn’t vote for you.

henryKnox   January 29th, 2010 - 9:52 am

Newt is too attached to the party. We are tired of being told to back progressive Republicans. We will support the conservative candidate regardless of party and we will throw out the progressive Republicans in favor of candidates that respect the Constitution, the rule of law and free markets.

jppuruzi   January 29th, 2010 - 10:59 am

My, it is true…. Liberals are angry and miserable. Conservatives are happy and forward thinking.

shar   January 29th, 2010 - 11:40 am

I will vote for Newt anytime and anyplace if it will get the Messiah out of office. Anyone and anybody can do better that what we have been getting. We have a man that lied his way in the to White House and all his adminstration lied also. Now we have to get him out. Michelle Obama says she is not leaving the whitehouse for about 10 years. She will run for office if she has too. Do we want some of that. This person has yet to prove she is proud of her country and she was serious when she said. it. I am sorry but the scrowl on her face with thousand dollar shoe and clothes while people are being lied to everday is enough. Washington needs to clean house and I will vote for the stronges person up there that we can vote in. My favorite would be Scott Brown as I think he a breath of fresh air and what all the American people would like to se.
