Gibbs Takes Shot at RNC Chair’s Speaking Fees

"How much did that interview cost, I wonder," WH press secretary Robert Gibbs quipped Tuesday. On Monday, The Washington Times reported that "Michael S. Steele, Republican National Committee chairman, is using his title to market himself for paid appearances nationwide, personally profiting from speeches with fees of up to $20,000 at colleges, trade associations and other groups - an unusual practice criticized by a string of past party chairmen."

Does he really want to go there? Should we start some lists of public speaking fees? If you get paid to speak, is what you say invalid? How much has Gore been paid to give speeches and interviews?

kolbee123   December 22nd, 2009 - 10:59 am

Your comments, howdie doodie, will come back and bite you when you go on your speaking tour after you and the other libs are kicked out of office.

Hey we’ve watched what you’ve done to the canary’s in your coal mine and we really don’t want your help maggot lair.

Doug H.   December 22nd, 2009 - 11:19 am

Wow, Can’t we stick to the point. The CBO can be manipulated without threat, just send them erroneous assumptions you know will not pan out. Then you get the numbers you want. The real issue is that democrats are ramming this down our throats and Steele is right. They are flipping us off. It’s strange though, they don’t seem to concerned about the raising the people’s ire. I fear they are not worried about losing seats in 2010 because they have rigged the system to make sure they win. AB- it is time to start digging on this!

iconoclastKM   December 22nd, 2009 - 11:30 am

Ooooh! Did she come, Gibbsy.

What say Nora? Didya? Huh?

Did ya?

FastFacts   December 22nd, 2009 - 11:31 am

Was that a pot shot for a pot shot. Gibbs made a pot shot at the RNC about the fees because they did it at the Dem Senators, so who’s the bigger man. They are both in a blame game and yet they are both culprits of the problem. The Dems don’t care about saving money through tort reform or allowing us to buy insurance over border. The Republicans didn’t either when they were in power or they would have passed something similar when they were in office. Hopefully they will learn in 2010.

If his speaking engagements are affecting his ability to do his job as RNC Chairman then I would highly recommend that Michael Steele consider either reducing his paid speaking engagements or stopping them altogether, if in “any way” it hinders his job performance as RNC Chairman. He makes $223K a year as RNC Chairman so if his job performance is indeed “taking a hit” because of these speaking engagements then the prospect of him losing that $223K a year job as RNC Chairman would be a far greater loss to him than any speaking engagement profits because it would ruin his image as an ‘ethical’ and fiscally conservative Republican and instead portray him as a money hound who only considered his job as RNC Chairman as a politically expedient way to personally profit from the “political machine” while raking in huge amounts of “extra” cash doing public speaking appearances and while possibly accumulating a “sub-par” work performance for the Republican Party as their RNC Chairman. In other words, is Michael Steele in it for “himself” or is he in it for the greater good of America and his own Republican Party – who hired him to do the latter i.e. to do his utmost to help the Republican Party first and foremost, as well as working for the greater good of America and NOT for his own self interests by lining his own pockets using political expediency as his method for personal financial gain. So which is it Michael?

temple62   December 22nd, 2009 - 1:19 pm

Both parties need a wake-up call on unnecessary spending which is not supported by the American tax payers. The die is cast and the ruling party has two choices – either switch parties before the election or stop approving spending bills in support of Obama’s failed progressive socialism. The Republicans need to shut up and find a viable candidate or they will be whining about Obama for another SEVEN years. Neither McCain nor Palin are viable candidates, didn’t 2008 teach you anything? This why Obama/Biden got elected, you handed it to them. The public did not want another four years of Bush’s failed policies either!
