Was at the rally today. I started counting people, stopped at 48 or so.

The photo that shows a pretty good sized crowd was taken semi-early. It was filled in pretty tight all the way back. It thinned out a bit going back towards the Washington monument but then there were a lot of people gathered up at the hill at the base of that monument.
What you don't see is how many people were in under the tress, out of the sun. We were on the left side under the trees with a lot of people

To say there were two competing ralleys today is like having the Rolling Stones and some High School band happen to play in the same city and say there were two competing concerts. It was an incredible experience and that was just watching it on Cspan! I will watch again tonight! It felt like I was revitalized and reborn! To keep an open mind I watched Sharpton also. What a bunch of demanding people! I don't think any of them had a clue as to what MLK meant! SEIU and LaRaza were there singing SiSi puede along with the AFL/Cio all crying about the injustices in the inner cities. Looking for more gobt money. It was pitiful. Sharpton is pitiful. Watched Beck and Sharpton on CSPAN and Facebook. The contrast between the messages was right there for all to see. While the media (CNN,CBS,ABC,NBC, Politico) all comment on the "whiteness" of the Beck crowd, they make no mention of the "blackness" of the Sharpton crowd. The speeches/presentations were also incredibly different. Sharpton's negativity and smallness is emphasized, because it was put up right next to Beck's message of "honor". Having marched in the south in 60's as a white college student from UW-Madison WI, it shocked me to see a complete lack of honor demonstrated at the Sharpton rally. Speakers asking the crowd to call their congressmen and ask for more money, the constant reference to "black" Pres Obama and "black" issues negates all that Dr King stood for, and that we risked our lives for during those years. Beck clearly refers to the original civil rights movement as the colonies struggle against British control. Sharpton can't seem to realize, professional victim that he is, that anyone else ever struggled…and made it.

Today from the stage, Beck said the official capacity of the Pool area is 200k and the field was 250k. Looks like that makes it a conservative 450k in attendance.

Sharpton organized enough people to fill a football field. There is a huge difference. And don't even ask Beck where the diversity was in the crowd because the same diversity numbers were found in either group though the opposite majority. Does that really matter though.

My family and I think that it is preposterous that someone would try to coerce us to pay reperations when none of us ever owned or benefited from slavery… But I guess that doesn't matter much to anyone else. I am a libertarian through and through (what the earliest colonials endorsed) and it sickens me that Beck picked this time and place for this restoration. I guess it was naive to think that he might have been above the neoconservative movement….
