Sandra: in answer to your question. Yes, it will pass. Yes, the shine will rub off of Obama with these people that adore him. But, this kind of mind set that is being taught does not help the children learn how to think about their leaders. When Obama fades they will be looking for the next “god” to idolize. The next one could be, not a president, but some small time cult leader like Manson. It makes them susceptible to that way of thinking. Secondly, it is not good for the country to idolize a man, because a man as President can change a lot of laws with that kind of cover. Think “patriot act” or patriot act time ten. And by the time the shine is off and people realize he is just a man well….it may be too late. This applies to any country. Look how fast Chavez moved or frankly what is happening in any South American country right now. I, frankly, don’t want that in the USA.

Okay so this song doesn’t really disturb me, much. They aren’t praising him except saying he has gotten so far and so can I. This is fin but that other one really disturbs me, more than just the praising the president but what they are teaching the kids in the song, “equal pay, for equal work” that is just wrong, there are different education levels you may have reached, different skill levels, different jobs, and different stress levels. There is no such thing about equal pay for equal work unless you are talking about overcoming the problem of pay difference between gender and race, other than that it is just wrong. We aspire to succeed and that philosophy will take that away.

The previous video was a travesty, and the principal of that school should be fired, especially considering all the ridiculous amount of sickening pro-Obama activities that by all appearances she was having the kids do.
This one bothers me, but it is nowhere near the level of the last, and I can more or less buy the kids actually writing this and doing it on their own, with a bit of help. I mean I loved Reagan back when I was a wee tyke, and I can see familial influence probably being a big factor in this one. Not to mention the main theme is essentially work hard and you might become president along with America Rocks! Not all that objectionable.
Still politics should not be in the classroom in general, so while I think this is a bit inappropriate, I think it was a well intentioned attempt to involve the class. A benefit of the doubt I do not accord the NJ video.
Back to the civility issue. I know that a lot of us are angry at what has been happening. That is good, Lord knows we have good reason to be. But the attacks on Sandra really do not speak well of us. We win these debates based upon the strength of our ideas, and sinking to the level of the average HuffPo poster is not going to convert anyone.
People, people, haven’t you heard the saying, “don’t feed the trolls”? They feed off of engagement, especially the name calling and insults. there is a huge difference between swearing alegiance to your country and prostrating yourself to a person. Whereas I do agree that this video is not as offensive as the one from New Jersey, it is indicative of a dangerous trend. Did they get permission from the Estate of Dr. King before they published excepts of his speech? I frankly don’t thinks so… the I have a dream speech is copyrighted work; I find the use of his speech as a STATIST PROPAGANDA tool is reprehensible and the teacher(s)should be fired immediately!!!

Today at the White House Easter Egg Roll, dozens of children “from the stricken Gulf Coast region serenaded First Lady Laura Bush with a song praising the beleaguered Federal Emergency Management Agency.” To the tune of “Hey Look Me Over,” the kids from Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama sang:
