“The lower courts’ belief that citizens should be reduced to racial statistics is flawed, and it only divides people who don’t wish to be divided along racial lines."

Outstanding! Great job! and we want Sotomayor as a judge in our court system? Not! she is the one who is racist.

Barry Bonds   July 16th, 2009 - 5:10 pm

This is pure trash! It’s like the Republicans are running on Atari 2600 systems and the Democrats are on Super Computers. I hope they keep this up. Maybe in about 20 years of Democratic rule we can erase the faults of the Bush Administration.

Barry Bonds   July 16th, 2009 - 5:21 pm

Anyone with an education knows that your real knowledge and understanding comes from being on the job. All a test will do is give you familurality with a subject, it won’t make you a fire, traffic or rescue situation genius. Sorry, this guy while being a firefighter is an idiot. Or atleast who ever wrote this b.s. speech for him.

“All a test will do is give you familurality with a subject.”

Right. And if you’re already very familuraluriiar with the subject due to your job experience as you noted, then there should be no problem passing the tests.

Barry Bonds   July 16th, 2009 - 5:33 pm

That’s assuming the test is based on job experience.

White America as the white’s knew it, is gone for good. They have done nothing good for this country since 1776. It would have been so much better if the founding fathers were black and brown.

If the founding fathers were black and brown you would still be living in mud huts, never having a written language and never having the use of the simple wheel.

In other words.. you’d be living in afreeka before the white man came.

Congratulations to Mr Ricci and Mr Vargas for stepping up to the plate and getting the job done!

You did a great job today! I was proud of you as Americans. All of your unit did not give up when you were denied your rights…you fought it believing in America and our Constitution and both of you held up just fine and were victorious!

America…why would this woman be confirmed when at least (3) of her rulings have been reversed by the sitting Supreme Court…does that not prove that she doesn’t have the right stuff to sit in judgment on cases that come before the Supreme Court.

America…call the Judicial Committee and tell them NO to Sotomayor…she is a racist, a bigot and does not care about the “little” man…she cares only of race and bigotry and can’t even judge the cases right that have come before her.

Call every day…America!

A job well done today by Mr.Ricchi. Can you believe this is the best judicial mind in this country today? How far we have fallen. Keep up the posts In memory, can you belive that a murdering, alcoholic old fossil with a brain tumor is writting our health care bill? Lock and load kiddes.

Observantminority   July 17th, 2009 - 3:37 am

What the hell! This Ricci guy can’t even read without using his finger to follow along like he’s in kindergarten. If he passed the test he probably CHEATED!!!!!!

And the firefighter sitting next to him looks suspiciously NOT white.

Observantminority   July 17th, 2009 - 3:44 am

So the guy next to Ricci is named Vargas? So Sotomayor discriminated against another Latino? The LUNATIC RIGHT FRINGE continues to display its looney track record.

John   July 17th, 2009 - 5:30 am

Wow. I love how the Left resorts to name-calling and the myopically useless derision of one mispronunciation. Just like they love calling Rush Limbaugh ‘fat’ and President George W. Bush ’stupid’, even though both of those MEN have achieved some of the greatest goals possible in any single person’s lifetime, under some of the most withering, relentless opposition on a national, even global scale, with time and energy to spare.
I have an idea: How about all of you naysayers go study hard over a long period of time for a difficult test to win an advertised vacancy in a government agency. Take that test and earn the right to fill that vacancy. Oh, and then put a smile on you face and walk away when somebody else gets YOUR job, UNLAWFULLY, on the whim of a personal agenda or even vendetta of ‘the powers that be’, persons who were NOT actually empowered to do what they just did to you…
Seriously, people! Where’s your compassion for the little guy? Y’know, EQUAL rights, and all that? Oops, can’t beat the elephant in THAT room. You must be at or in the wrong party.

Hmmm…What part were you listening to? What “job” did he “get done”?

Here’s the part of his testimony that I liked the best:

Sen. Specter: “Do you have any reason to think that Judge Sotomayor acted in anything other than good faith in trying to reach a fair decision in the case?”

Mr. Ricci: “That’s beyond my legal expertise. I simply welcome an invitation by the United States Senate to come here today.”

Ooops!

The Supreme Court was evenly divided in his case (5-4) suggesting that it was not a “slam dunk” like you may think and not even Ricci could suggest bias or ulterior motives on the part of Sotomayor. Sorry boys. There goes case against her. She’s in. Live with it and get ready for the Ginsburg replacement.

MidEastVet   July 17th, 2009 - 10:24 am

Observantminority – Yes – Vargas studied and past the test. It was the minority majority that was feared by the city – that the minorities would file suit because the majority of minorities FAILED the test. Pull your head out of your Observant minority rear-end!

LOD_NYPD   July 17th, 2009 - 10:28 am

Observantminority – you’re not that observant and obviously didn’t read the story – he is using his finger because he is DYSLEXIC you needle head – obviously you’re not that observant and clearly are part of the problem not the solution as well as symbolize the reason why the minorities FAILED the test! Crying cheat is the only thing ignorant people can state since they expect everything to be given to them without having to work for it – wait – you must have voted for Obama you dweeb!

Robert   July 17th, 2009 - 11:12 am

Seeing some of these comments such as a Republican issue is so laughable. Those individual who do that…how can we ever take you serious?

The firefighters who earned the right to advance deserve so. Those who didn’t, don’t. It’s that simple.

What gets me is the liberals are telling me in this case is that the minorities don’t have the capability to do it on their own. This is the same mentality they see on a national level. That is why some minority groups such as black as a whole have not advanced such as other groups. Their reliance on government and not themselves has held them back, and for those who have, and are conservatives, they are lambasted. The minorities who are liberals are no better that than the slave merchants who sold them in Africa in the first place by their own kind and even exist in other parts of the world today.

Every person has God given talent to do what they have the vision to do, not the governments vision. It’s time to wake up black america, the democrats have taken advantage for so long you don’t know which way is up only down. Many blacks are true role models, use them as example of vision and the hard work it took for them to get to the position (whatever it is) to achieve. The government didn’t hand them life. But the democrats are willing a do so daily to hand poverty stricken black Americans theirs.

Time to wake up, time to have vision, time to work hard and be what you want to be. Be your own person, not the democrats.

Target Man   July 17th, 2009 - 12:02 pm

“Just words, just speeches” Probably what our President would utter after listening to this American individual willing to stand up for what he believed was right. Who can find fault with the content of this man’s comments? I suspect only those who don’t have the guts to stand up for what they believe in and take the heat for doing what is politically not correct. I suppose also those individuals who don’t have the guts or determination to earn they way to a better life for themselves and their family’s. It is time for all of us to speak up and speak out against racism of ALL kinds. As unpopular as it may seem we are all Americans first and what is right is right. That my friends is NOT a white or Black issue!!

Mr Bonds: “Anyone with an education knows that your real knowledge and understanding comes from being on the job.All a test will do is give you familurality with a subject, it won’t make you a fire, traffic or rescue situation genius.”

While there is some validity to your claim, I contest that if tests are completely irrelevant, then Dr’s should also chuck Medical exams, etc. While on the job experience is critical, in life saving situations, one does not have the option of a “do-over” as Ricci explains, so he must understand the proper course to make an informed decision– and that comes from studying and testing.

And for God’s sake, stop it with the Bush bashing. Get over it! Your people won and you still can’t stop being angry and spiteful.

Mr. Nice   July 17th, 2009 - 12:21 pm

Any ruling by any court on the ethnicity of the contestants is un-American. America was D.O.A going into the 21st Century. The City on a Hill, gathered from all nations has proven & sealed the fate of the nations. “The People” shall not be self-ruling.

Why are people mad by this? Whether you are black or white you should see the merit in what he is fighting for. The best person for the job should get it regardless of color, if you have to lower standards to fill a quota that puts unqualified people in jobs and qualified people are past over. Why would a black person only want to get a job because of his race, and not because he is best suited for the job. If everyone takes the same exam then everyone should be held to the same standard. I’m sick of white people not being aloud to stand up for themselves without being called a racist. If we ever want to live in a world with equal rights then we have to stop giving things to people only because of their race and not because they earn it, what message does that send? A minority can’t get the job based on their own merit and have to be given extra treatment – take about inequality.
