Finally a Pop Star Who Gets It: Jewel Has Praise for Palin

Recording star and fellow Alaskan Jewel had a great, and probably unexpected answer for Larry King when he asked her about Sarah Palin.

I'm underwhelmed not exactly a ringing endorsement.

Palin Jewel 2012…. Yummy

BeEtLjOoZ   September 2nd, 2010 - 5:24 pm

I'm speechless. Thank God there are some in entertainment that know how to use some tact when asked about someone that they may not agree with politically, and then go on to say same something nice about them. Kudos to Jewel. O.K. not entirely speechless.

JoeKidd   September 2nd, 2010 - 5:34 pm

San Diego loves Jewel! So do I! You betcha!

Rebas_Thgil   September 2nd, 2010 - 5:36 pm

I love that about Sarah too, Jewel. Good on you!

DrEdu   September 2nd, 2010 - 5:38 pm

1.- Sara Palin is supported by Virtue.
2.- Virtue is not to be found among the Hollywood types or the Democrats.
3.- Therefore it is idiotic to expect praise for what is GOOD among those who despise Goodness
4.- On top of that 97% of the cute people in Hollywood are like gorgeous colorful parrots: all looks, NO BRAINS.

Good for this chick to do the right thing…but I do not take cue from the beautiful idiots!

wilmac   September 2nd, 2010 - 5:49 pm

What does Alaskan Women are Candy Women mean??
My pop culture jargon is a little rusty.
im reserving by judgement until i know what she just said.

CBrooks1976   September 2nd, 2010 - 6:08 pm

Yes, you are.

Left has claimed for years that anybody who disagrees with women or minorities are racist, sexist bigot.
Now that they are faced with a woman they disagree with on everything it's difficult hide what hypocrites you people are.

_Son_of_Liberty   September 2nd, 2010 - 6:12 pm

Uh ohhhh…. she'll be getting black listed now…

But I think she's awesome.

dividingbyzero   September 2nd, 2010 - 6:12 pm

What do they disagree with her on? Does she have any stance? Besides taking the profits from greedy oil company parasites and distributing it to the people? What conservative principle is that – care to point it out?

yossarian22   September 2nd, 2010 - 6:12 pm

"Can-do women" , I believe she said, although it could have been candy women and if that is the case I am in the same boat as you.

xmlrider   September 2nd, 2010 - 6:15 pm

Good for Jewel!! Very refreshing! The cliche is that artists will always take a 'liberal' stand. Fact is, the press just never gives the mic to the right people – If Larry knew how she would answer, he wouldn't have asked the question.

gwar5   September 2nd, 2010 - 6:16 pm

The left will do anything to trash Palin. Rush Limbaugh is 100% right —- the left will tell you who they fear…….

It's disgusting out there to see how they've ratcheted up the hate against Palin. They more they hate her the more I like her. Too bad for them.

LagunaLucy   September 2nd, 2010 - 6:22 pm

While Jewel thinks Alaskan women are 'can do' women, she doesnt agree with all that Sarah Palin stands for… It seems as if she is patting herself on the back as well by being 'from Alaska'
I remain on the fence about Jewel…

rocoll   September 2nd, 2010 - 6:22 pm

handy women. if youre being serious, i believe it was Alaskan women are handy women.

sachablue1   September 2nd, 2010 - 6:34 pm

AWWW………..
So sweet & entertaining—–she's a Doll-Face……thanks for posting !

Quayle2012_KNOT   September 2nd, 2010 - 6:50 pm

Since reading the Vanity Fair writeup on Palin, I enjoy her even more, and fervently wish she would run for President. However, she'd have to be unusually clueless to think she could get anywhere on the national stage. She'd drive the GOP insane, but it'd be double the fun with a Bachmann/Palin or Palin/Beck ticket. Either one would hopelessly splinter the Republicrats.. They couldn't attack the "substance" of her ideas, which would be a joy to watch.

Roger   September 2nd, 2010 - 6:56 pm

Oh, so simple you pretend to be.
Palin stands for government not being in the way of the people. She stands for people having the freedom to succeed without being told they aren't allowed. She's for the people actually owning the country, and if something is sold that money going back to the people, not the crooked elite like Obama that wants to pad the union pensions after bad management ruined the pension accounts. Like the auto unions that got a chunk of the car companies, the SEIU friends that get stuff, and now the latest the teachers unions getting a hunk out of this last jobs bill.

Palin does have some great ideas, just ones you can't wrap your mind around.
Schmuck.

When I hear people speak ill of Sarah Palin my response is, everything you know about Palin, you learned from her enemies. Keep that in mind.

Roger   September 2nd, 2010 - 6:59 pm

Of course you feel that way. I'm so glad you are so supportive.
And I'm sure the Senator from Alaska felt the same way until Miller took her out in the primary.

Tuco   September 2nd, 2010 - 7:06 pm

Classy and beatuiful voice. Not to mention she hooked up with one tough cowboy.

Finally home from the long drive to the rally, 11 days 5851 miles total. An amazing journey.

with a post like that….let me guess…projection??? The only desperation I see right now is on the Democrat/Progressive side….about to get an a$$ kickin in November!!! "Let's Roll!!!"

poor dear,…you belive everything you read ? you must be very stupid, and uneducated.

BobbyGG   September 2nd, 2010 - 7:32 pm

You would actually have more credibility if you and other Liberals would stop calling those you disagree with/dislike names. Shows a bit of maturity. Give a try there big guy.

Roger   September 2nd, 2010 - 7:37 pm

Of course not, perhaps you didn't realize I was using sarcasm?
If you were uneducated and not intelligent enough to spot that… no wonder you are trying to throw that at me.

I do have to admit I think his last phrase is good, that they should talk about the substance of her ideas. It hasn't happened yet and it would be a nice change.

ChiTownTom   September 2nd, 2010 - 8:56 pm

Sounded like "can-do" to me…

inspectorudy   September 2nd, 2010 - 9:00 pm

Compare Jewel with the mindless nit wit Ellen Page from "Whip It" or "Inception" when asked about what she felt was the thing she most wanted to change in the world. She called Bush/Cheney evil and Palin a monster. Why would she show how stupid she really is for no apparent gain? Why do actors seem to have no restraint in their views of others when they crave only good attention from the same people?

Hard Worker   September 2nd, 2010 - 9:04 pm

Jamesb   September 2nd, 2010 - 11:05 pm

The oil belongs to the state and royalties are paid to the state by the OIL companies. Louisiana, Texas and ALL the drilling states work it like that. Do a little research, or read something once in awhile.

Jamesb   September 2nd, 2010 - 11:11 pm

I'm bending my "no Wiki rule" but the info is accurate:

"The Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation manages the assets of both the Permanent Fund and other state investments, but spending Fund income is up to the Legislature. The Corporation is to manage for maximum prudent return, and not—as some Alaskans at first wanted—as a development bank for in-state projects. The Fund grew from an initial investment of $734,000 in 1977 to approximately $28 billion as of March 2008. Some growth was due to good management, some to inflationary re-investment, and some via legislative decisions to deposit extra income during boom years. Each year, the fund's realized earnings are split between inflation-proofing, operating expenses, and the annual Permanent Fund Dividend."

Jamesb   September 2nd, 2010 - 11:21 pm

KNOT!

mg24   September 2nd, 2010 - 11:24 pm

Are you really this dense? Greedy oil companies? Do you realize how many people have jobs and are able to provide for their families because of what you call 'greed?' I know I'm probably wasting my time, but without those 'greedy' companies and 'rich' people, the government would have no money. Are you aware that the government does not actually generate any money? The companies provide a product or service that people want. That's how they make their money. They are not parasites. The government and lazy ignorant nim-wits on welfare are the parasites. Next time you want to pretend you have two brain cells to rub together don't use words you apparently don't understand.

Davecat84   September 3rd, 2010 - 12:04 am

She doesn't completely agree with Palin politically, but gets her.
Meh.
At least she's not providing fodder for Vanity Fair.

The_Businessman   September 3rd, 2010 - 12:05 am

Jewel deserves a lot of credit for not bowing down to fear of her peers. Actually, they aren't peers, they are wannabes.

joymc   September 3rd, 2010 - 3:04 am

When she had that TV show with John Rich, I wondered if she was conservative. (is that still on) It was sort of a C&W talent contest.

joymc   September 3rd, 2010 - 3:07 am

Because most of them are:
1) Highly subject to peer group pressure
2) Emotionally about 12 or 13 years old (arrested development)
3) Not very knowledgeable
4) Heedless nincompoops
5) Seeking attention
6) Suffering from various personality disorders

joymc   September 3rd, 2010 - 3:18 am

It woud be interesting to see if the RINOs and spineless establishment republicans could cross the aisle and support real conservatives as easily as they cross the aisle to consort with the democrats on their agenda.

joymc   September 3rd, 2010 - 3:27 am

I totally LOVE IT.

OldmanRick   September 3rd, 2010 - 4:36 am

Jewel isn't wrong. Alaskan women say it like it is, and are intelligent to boot..

KevinT633   September 3rd, 2010 - 4:50 am

Knew there was a reason that I always liked her

kdizzydaze   September 3rd, 2010 - 5:06 am

Unfortunately, all you have probably ever heard from her are five second sound bites of her saying something that sounds quite simple.

In fact, if you actually listen to an entire speech (or more than a five second snippet), you would actually hear some of her ideas and find out she is actually a rather intelligent person.

But judging from your comment there is really no reason to discuss any further. YOu have a mindset about her that someone trained you on and that is that.

Really what we are at is a crossroads where we can argue all day and in the end, you will only believe about Palin what your people tell you. Because of that, we really cannot go into any greater detail or deeper discussion.

kdizzydaze   September 3rd, 2010 - 5:10 am

that a$$ kickin' needs to extend decades beyond November 2010.

And I am certain you have noticed how the arguments from the left are swings in the dark based on what they all heard at their latest televised nightly rally on MSNBC or CNN.

By the way, these arguments are all based in faulty logic and absolutely zero fact.

Their debating abilities remind of what Father Merrin said in describing the devil in the Exorcist – the devil will try to confuse you by mixing the truth with lies – do not listen. Of course, these "devils" use about 98% lies and 2% truth (they at least get the names right when they smear).

My Man Ty Murray is married to the coolest chick there is. She is really a Jewell.

Tango2niner   September 3rd, 2010 - 6:25 am

My pleasure. Yes, unlike so many entertainers, she still has her head on straight. It shows a level of maturity not often found among the so-called 'Stars'.

I loved the reaction of the girl when she learned who 'Karen' was, and the guy at the end was priceless.

malachi_e_deus   September 3rd, 2010 - 6:37 am

Oh you hater, you.

We know you and your type, lacking all the qualities Mrs. Palin has but that you'll never achieve, poor boy.

God bless America.

edro3111   September 3rd, 2010 - 6:58 am

It's refreshing to see ANY celebrity have the guts to side with the Conservative side. Jewel is to be congratulated. Hope more and more will come out and speak up.

As far as Sarah Palin, I don't care for her. She's basically turned into a publicity hound and somehow a spokesperson for the Tea Bag movement. Any attempt to have her run for Prez next time will be a loss for the GOP. Find someone with REAL world knowledge and experience!

H2K   September 3rd, 2010 - 7:01 am

Does she sing? Anyway, I like her!

iMark   September 3rd, 2010 - 7:25 am

you're a douchebag with no taste.

iMark   September 3rd, 2010 - 7:28 am

What an intelligent and insightful set of facts you've brought to light. Your logic is indisputable. You even used the word 'therefore' as if anything you say stands to reason.
What a joke!

iMark   September 3rd, 2010 - 7:29 am

Sarah is not exactly what I would call intelligent.

iMark   September 3rd, 2010 - 7:32 am

When referring to Sarah Palin, Alaskan Women and "Can-Do" women mean "Completely out of touch right wing zealots".

iMark   September 3rd, 2010 - 7:33 am

I think she'll do just fine without your support.

iMark   September 3rd, 2010 - 7:34 am

She's leading in what??? You're an idiot. She's not running for office. She's just a news anchor now. Just like that repulitard Rush.

Addie   September 3rd, 2010 - 7:39 am

She's at least smarter than the guy in office now. He can't even string a sentence together without a teleprompter.

sachablue1   September 3rd, 2010 - 7:40 am

Yes-
that could have been any Kareoke Bar, in any town–
all those "faces" are familiar.

it was sweet, how the crowd was so supportive of "Karen".

Am not familiar with this show-
however, YOUR link deserves the "Feel-Good" Clip of the entire Breitbart site, this week …..
it has "Warm & Fuzzy" written all over it—
i've saved it, for whenever a "Happy Fix" is required.

Hope everybody watches it…
Jewel IS a Jewel—such a beautiful soul…..down-to-earth, yet downright divine !

jsazsmitty   September 3rd, 2010 - 7:46 am

The venue that Jewel excells in is Country music, the fans are grounded in America and the traditional values of God, Family, Country and Duty. Try as they might the lemmings of entertainment complex have little sway over the Country Music fans. Jewel has a soul mate for a Husband who is equally talented in his chosen path and is grounded in Americana, Ty Murry, a Texas Cowboy from Stevenville,Texas, for those who aren't aware his accomplishment on the back of bucking bulls is legendary. They make a class couple.

AL__   September 3rd, 2010 - 8:14 am

_Son_of_Liberty   September 3rd, 2010 - 8:29 am

She has my support 500%

iMark   September 3rd, 2010 - 9:36 am

, … and you should look up the word "percent"

iMark   September 3rd, 2010 - 9:37 am

have you ever considered that the 'right person' is part of a dwindling minority of zealot lemmings.

independent76   September 3rd, 2010 - 10:13 am

The problem is that there are so few politicians with charisma. Love her or hate her, Sarah Palin commands attention. Republicans have a reputation for only running "old, white dudes" and Sarah is neither old nor a dude, and her husband gives her some "not white" street cred (weird, I know). If she could get herself together and sound just a tad more put-together, without losing her AK charm, I am starting to think that she could be electable. Her "mama grizzly" thing is sheer brilliance, her scattered college background helps (how many of us went to more than one college? – and the media just can't let go of it, making them seem even more elitist), and she has managed to turn the constant media attacks to her advantage by pointing them out without looking like a whiner. Even if she did all of those things accidentally, it is impressive. As for experience…well, the senate and house are filled with experienced politicians, and look where that got us? (I'm not endorsing Sarah…I am waiting to see who else runs before deciding where my vote will go, but I do like a good discussion!)

My take wasn't that Jewell sided with conservatives, but that Jewell remained was supportive of women with a "can-do" attitude.

Stewartsmall   September 3rd, 2010 - 10:35 am

At the same time you are getting to love Feisel Abdul Rauf and Daisy the Con more and more??????

LilyMayJones   September 3rd, 2010 - 12:22 pm

That little Jewel! My granddaughter loves her music so and now to think that she like our Palin. I'm gonna start buying her records..they still do make records?

JustLurkin   September 3rd, 2010 - 1:11 pm

She's from Alaska. She has no fear.

JustLurkin   September 3rd, 2010 - 1:36 pm

Hey, dimwit, Obama is the poster boy for cult of personality. And, unlike Sarah, he has to read his entire speech, WORD FOR WORD from the teleprompter, or he freezes up like the animatronics at Disney when a circuit breaker trips, and he somehow is more creepy.

You can't stand her? Try to ignore your hate and compare her to your messiah straight up. Here's a clue: when she writes on her hand, it doesn't compare to droid-boy reading his entire speech word for word, or someone else's speech when the geniuses running the prompter screw it up. HE DOESN'T SEEM TO NOTICE.

JustLurkin   September 3rd, 2010 - 1:38 pm

Your hate is clouding your thinking.

JustLurkin   September 3rd, 2010 - 1:39 pm

Again, look up "sarcasm". Do yourself a favor, save some embarrassment.

JustLurkin   September 3rd, 2010 - 1:42 pm

I don't care if she does not support Sarah, she showed some class and manners, and found some common ground. She also had something good to say about her as well. Remember what mom used to say about "…not say anything at all."
