Thats the whole problem with Federal government programs; once inacted people become dependent on them and then no elected official is willing to eliminate them or even reform them.

And the tax payer foots the bill and the congress keeps the programs going to buy votes and keep those that rely on the programs under their control.

It’s a vicious cycle that will only end when the entitlment rolls get too top heavey and the tax payers rebel or we vote the big government, big spenders out of office and risk the dependent masses rioting.

Medicare by itself, DOES SUCK! Ask any senior who doesn’t have a “suppliment” from a private insurance company. They say they pay 80%? They pay 80% of what they approve, which usually translates to about 55-60%. Medicare has lowered benefits or reduced reimbursment almost every year that they’ve been in existance. However, by law, the suppliments HAVE TO MAKE UP THE DIFFERENCE! That’s how Medicare has been able to keep thier rates somewhat stable, while the suppliment plans have been rising in premium. Who’s the bad guy here?

Most people don’t realize how Medicare really works, and this idea that it is a great system is just bulls**t. If the private insurance carriers stopped selling suppliments, seniors would be in DEEP S**T!

I retired from the company I worked 38 years for with full retiree insurance that I was paying my portion of monthly. When I turned 65 they told me to go apply for Medicare and the company insurance would only be a secondary payer after Medicare. They emphasized they would not be a Medicare Supplement but only secondary insurance.

That means it would pay nothing at all most of the time and only if the company insurance paid for something that Medicare did not cover. I had to go out and buy a Suppliment policy to cover the 20% Medicare does not cover in addition to the $100 a month for Medicare premium. My expense stayed about the same but the companies went way down.

That is what you can expect from most companies if this health package passes and becomes law – private companies will push people to the gov’t plan. Some companies still provide full insurance for 65+ employees who pay a portion monthly but that might end too.

What a total ass.
If it wasn’t for this and You Tube I wouldn’t see any of the nonsence from MSNBC either. I never watch them.

THE major difference between Medicare and the current House bill is that with Medicaid there are still private insurance companies left in existance.
Medicare users are still FREE to purchase private insurance to supplement Medicare (and improve the care they get). And there are enough doctors to go around.

That House bill is designed to eliminate private insurance over time and we will be stuck with the government option *ONLY*.

And if that happens the government will have total control over our health care.

I can speculate why the Congressman did not simply say “yes” it is socialism. He like so many republicans are wimps or unknowledgeable. Both social security and medicare are both collapsing. To pay for your retirement or your health care you have three choices: (1) pay for your own, (2) rely on charity of others to provide it for you. (3) steal or enslave others to get it (espcially use government to do the dirty work for you.)
An honest government would try to support options (1) and (2) above, but the opposite has occured where our government steals the lionshare of income of its citizens, and it has usurped the roles previously performed by charities. Thus, our government has tried to create an institutional framework to force all of us into option (3).

Are many Seniors dependent on these programs? Yes. Are they forced to participate? No.

If Seniors were a huge Democratic voting block, which they are not, today’s GOP would be advocating for the end of the purely socialistic programs known as Medicare and SSI. Hypocrites, pure and simple.

When SS started, few people lived much after 65. It was a safety net for the really, really old people. Now people regularly live into their 80s. However, Obamacare will take care of it.
There are two reasons SS is in trouble. One is that for it to work the way it was originally envisioned, you would not be eligible until you were 80 today. Two, while the Democrats had control of Congress for many years, they dipped into the SS surplus to make it look like they were not running a big deficit. Personally, I have paid into the SS system since 1950 and Medicare since 1965. I want my money back out of the system.

Instead of medicare we could easily have been paying that money into a future insurance fund, of our own choosing.

They can’t defend the current administration’s policies, so they have to trash the former to placate the few zombie leftist viewers that still watch that channel. They are pathetic to say the least.

Well, you made some important points, as far as the payback ratio for amount people put in, and how much MORE they could have made if they had invested their funds on their own. HOWEVER, your remark that “only freeloaders benefit” is neither true nor accurate. IF ONLY THE PEOPLE WHO PAID INTO THE SYSTEM BENEFIT, where’s the freeloaders? If you do not pay into Social Security, you get NOTHING. And only people who have paid into the system for a certain amount of quarters qualify for Medicare.

I have to figure the same reasoning. Who in their right mind would watch MSNBC? It’s no wonder why no one watches MSNBC. I can only wonder how long their funding is going to hold up with trash like that for an alleged news show. Frankly, having seen this garbage, I really have no wish to see MSNBC even hyperlinked to any other news oriented website. I don’t watch their trash and haven’t since I discovered what they are. Why would I want to see their trash via having it linked somewhere else?
