If I want subliminal p.c. "multiculturalism" I'll watch CNN, a Disney movie, or read a textbook. They should just hire one transsexual mulatto and then they wouldn't need the token white guy, black guy, woman, and homosexual. It would certainly save them money.
I imagine when they picked judges the conversation was, "Okay, we need to cover gender, race, and sexual orientation since this is "American" Idol. Find me a white guy that sounds intelligent, a black guy that sounds urban, a woman (preferably Latino), and an endearing non-flamboyant homosexual that won't offend people." When it should have been, "This is a singing competition, we need to find the best judges we can."
Actually she may be no technical expert, but she consistently finds talented performers just from youtube videos and brings them to her own show. She's had all the young talented kids from Britain, America, etc, Got Talent appear after seeing their youtube videos, and other "talent" shows as well.
In that respect she is true to her statement she likes encouraging young performers and likes helping them get their name and talent before the public via her show. I can also see how it would be hard to criticize someone on camera in front of a huge audience…..we can't all be Simon, lol, and she was obviously more interested in finding obviously talented performers and introducing them to her viewers. Nothing wrong with that.
I do find the references to her sexual orientation both out of place on this article and just cheap shots.
Do what you like. I think she's a talented, principled person who has done no harm to anyone that I can see and really helped many talented people through their appearances on her TV show.
Oh and uh…Rangle is a real life heretosexual.

So as not to hurt everyones feelings, let's give them all a trophy, proclaim them all as the winner, do away with the word competition, and give all 6000 contestants(oops, this is not a contest), lets call them equal participants, a singing contract. Now, no one gets their feelings hurt and ellie can go about business of luring little girls into her dressing room! At least that is what the national education association and dept of edumacation would recommend. While they are at it, maybe they can round up some illegal aliens to appear and have them sing somewhere over the rainbow in spanish, maybe that would boost their self esteem and help them through this turbulant time that is upon them!

What a crock. Her success means there are tens of thousands of other would be hopeful actress that failed. Does she comprehend that for every winner there are thousands of losers? Does she not believe that failing develops character? What makes someone push on? What provides motivation and separates the strong from the weak?
In the face of failure, having the courage to get back up and move forward is what builds character. This world is logical – not one built on emotions.
