As a Catholic scholar in systematic theology let me offer a few salient features of Liberation/Political Theologies
of the 20th century(esp in Black/Africa, Latino mores):
1.All Christian truths, ideals, goals,structures must be seen through the pure(vs polluted)prism of
the "oppressed" whose Religious Experience reflects the way GOD sees things, and who are God's
CHOSEN PEOPLE(anawim/poor acc to Amos).
2. Tenet that GOD is ON the Side of the poor vs the rich, Black vs White and will punish Whites & Rich(as in Luke's
version of the Beatitudes). God Himself rejects private property, capitalism, rule of the majority and demands
a re-distribution of wealth & power from the rich powerful majority to the poor powerless minority–because
the rich have stolen the fruits of the labor of the poor.
3. Belief that JESUS Himself taught a Social Gospel of Social Justice like the Hebrew Prophets(esp Amos)
which includes the religious duty of social re-distribution of wealth & power and the rule of the majority
by the minority–even by the minority use of violence/revolution . Jesus urged revolt vs pagan Rome!
4. Liberation Theologies use MARXIST dualisms: the solidarity of the Righteous oppressed in revolt
against the demonic oppressors–this is doing God's work, fulfilling His Will!

Roman Catholicism(esp Pope John Paul II) CONDEMNED all of these tenets for more than 30 yrs–

I hear you. I drive a cab (in Tucson) and deal with the public all day. It's a challenge to be sure.
