Why not LOWER the pay of Congress – that makes 4X what the “average” American citizen makes!!

I think morning talk show hosts are way over compensated, The government needs to step in and correct this tragic abuse!

It would be wonderful to see Harry Smith take a cut to $249,999 to lead the way to income equality in big nedia.

If we are limiting executive pay of companies the American taxpayer bailed out. The tax payer should have the ability to limit anybody that works at any government level,federal, state, county, city, township.
In reality the taxpayer owns these entities as well. I would start wih congress not only their pay but what they make outside the chambers.All the book money,speaking engagements etc while still in congress should be under watched. I bet the union people in our government that cover alot of so called civil servants would be yelping.

Why don’t we just take every business owner out and shoot them? Isn’t that a way to achieve what you useful idiots are really trying to say? These anti-American, Marxist loving, absolutely stupid idiots, capitalism hating, freedom hating, racist, drones are dangerous.

I have the best idea yet. Make our legislatures PART-TIME employees. They have overseen the destruction of massive amounts of wealth in this country. Many are corrupt. Many have been unregulated. Fannie Mae. Freddie Mac. The list of waste and abuse is long. Limit the paychecks in the House and the Senate NOW! The American People are begging for it.

How about this idea?? How about we cut your pay to 50% of what you usually make Harry. Would that work for you? I’m sure you make more money than you need. Let’s start with you Harry…

In addition to cutting, and limiting the salaries of all members of Congress, why don’t we also include all of the salaries of Hollywood actors, and directors too? I mean, they make way…….too much money. I mean it makes a lot of sense, if they are starting at the top right?

Why not? How, in the name of God, could we allow the school system to fail so badly as to not teach the fundamental values of freedom, democracy, and private property.

As a minimum all schools should require a course concentrating on the Bill of Rights taught by a patriot, not a union teacher. WHERE in the tenth amendment does health care, salary control, czars, and most any other goal of the current socialist administration appear?

ONLY those items that are specifically permitted are for the feds — the rest are reserved for the states.

If the Socialists want to do away with the Bill of Rights, at least they could do it legally. Pass an amendment, and get it ratified. Otherwise, hands off!!!

We need a governor, any governor of any state to just say “NO, not in my state, and not on my watch!”

At least half the states will follow his lead. The other half, well, they had their opportuinity…

place by 90% and make it against the law for anyone in Hollywood to make over minumum wage.

i have little problem with them coming in and setting pay for companies that were bailed out..and i have little problem with them keeping the employees of these companies on the books, or making the companies pay the Govt back, but i do have a major issue with them trying to set the comp of other companies that they dont own. regulate specific items, dont screw the rest of us out of market based pay

Approximately 25 of the people slated for “payroll justice” have already left their respective firms for other companies. In time, all will leave for other companies. If one can earn 30 million dollars a year elsewhere or stay where he is for 200K, what do you think he would do? The Socialists have not yet attached this penalty to the person so that it would follow him, but I’m sure they would welcome the chance.

So, who takes over when they are gone? The second string OR worse yet, Socialist appointees. And if the second string takes over and fails then the Socialist appointees will take over for certain. Look at GM and Chrysler..

I don’t like taxpayper monies being used to pay bonuses, but a Socialist takeover of these companies is far, far worse than taxpayer monies paying bonuses.

This will become the “camel’s nose under the tent” — before you realize it the whole camel will be inside.

I’m on board with others here who suggest that we do a little moving of commas in the pay structure for Celebrity Talking Heads like Smith’s ignorant arse. If we’re capping salaries – we need to start with Hollywood, MSM, and Sports figures.

It’s not the place of Congress to sit on an ivory tower and dictate to private enterprise every detail of how they are to conduct themselves.

Ms. Warren IS correct in saying that there is a compensation problem in this country. It’s not right when a handful of decision-makers receive millions while at the same time laying off or firing employees who have no say in the matter.

Creating an environment where this is possible has been the very reason that the GOP has spent the last thirty years painting labor unions as corrupt organizations only interested in collecting dues and electing Democrats. (Democrats who promise to make things better and then botch it for everybody.)

Common, George Williams, I second the motion. Doing that to Hollywood, MSM and sports players would make tickets affordable, and gain respect for the sports venues once again. As for the MSM, I’m not sure how that would benefit the people, but it would sure be nice to do to them. Drop their salary to say $50K/yr for sitting on the duff and looking at a camera, sweet!

Do you have a 401k? Where is that money invested? Chances are great it is in some kind of Mutual Fund. These mutual funds invest in large and small corporations. Who do you want running the corporation where “YOUR” money is invested? The best and brightest board members money can buy OR a board that has their salary dictated to them by a politician? It just kills me to hear someone cry foul about big oil companies making insanely gross profits. But when they open their quarterly 401k statement they are happy.

Do you own stock in a publicly traded company? The goal of owning stocks is to buy a share and sell it at a higher price. Real simple. Ok… Do you think the government should be allowed to set salary caps for board of directors of these publicly traded companies? It is the share holders that keep the board of directors honest and the execs answer to the board. Duh…

Should the government have a seat at the conference table with the board of directors? In a sense that is what would happen. It is just stupid to tell a board of directors their strategic plans should be to seek long term profits and not take risk under the premise of protecting our economy. Every company is different. Some make widgets and some make thing-a-ma-gigs. Strategic plans are different for different companies. Some need to take risk while the market is ripe… I hold no MBA but it is just common sense. The share holders are ultimately responsible for the board of directors and executives pay. If they are happy with the returns on their investments I see no problems with any executives pay.

Gorio and George Williams have it wrong too! If you are upset at the salaries some athletes are knocking down. Dont purchase thier paraphernalia. Don’t atted games. This is your choice. I applaud an athlete. If he has the talent and ability to be the best and demand the most money Then they deserve it. It is your demand for sports that sets their salaries. Do you think the owners of these teams pay these salaries because they like to watch a game? NO they are in it to make money. This is what America is all about. Capitalism.

Good conversation and since the mode of the day is for the most ineffective and overpaid departments of the government to reasonably address these issues, they should set the example.To cost taxpayers costs the numbers of Senators should be limited to “one per state” and the “representative to two per state”. In addition the administration and congress should sell all provided transportation and out source their travel paying for it out of their pocket. You can purport to be on a cost cutting mission unless these sectors are willing to set the examples for the “change” that is “hoped” for.

Even if we thought wage-control was a good idea, it has been tried many times before and has failed. Why would anyone seek to revisit repeated failure? The market is too complex to be understood or controlled by any politician, mathematician, scientist, whatever. And it’s very sensitive to artificial forms of persuasion. Any intervention can have disastrous, unanticipated consequences. But the most bothersome thing about what these two ignorant lumps are suggesting is that they are blatantly ignorant to the fact that wage controls is a tried-and-failed proposition. Next they will be talking about price controls. A free market is the true reflection of the people. It is happening all over our nation on job losses. With so many out of work there are no salaries to take taxes out of…who is going to pay for all of these Democratzi bills?

Seems to me the original constitution stated that the president and every politician would only be allowed to be paid per diem! Not one job was a salaried job. Then they gave the raises because WE WERE NOT WATCHING like we are now.

Now all of congress only works Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursday mornings, and are back in the air on their way home Thursday afternoons. So they are 1000 times overpaid. What happened to no taxation without representation? We are taxed to the hilt and not one of our states have any representation from these corrupt thieves.

Not only do they get this great salary for doing nothing but trying to figure ways to screw us, they get it for life along with all their pensions, medical and dental, and whatever else they can steal.

Impeach them all.
