It was the result of an awkward equipment set-up in the makeshift Nashville studio. In fact, Wallace did the same supposed “eyeroll” at least three times later in the show: After a clip of Kit Bond before he introduces the Sunday Panel; after a clip of Palin’s convention speech before the last Sunday Panel segment; and after the pre-recorded interview with Mark Skoda. Yes, I re-watched the show after this stupid controversy emerged.

Wallace apparently watched the live feed of the show on a screen to his left, and when a pre-recorded clip ended, he glanced from that screen to the camera, then back to the screen (where he probably saw a live shot of himself looking off camera). Each time he quickly looked back at the camera and started addressing the audience or the Sunday Panel.

This was most noticeable after the Palin interview, because it was early in the show. Wallace was more subtle with his furtive glances later in the show, because he had already seen on the live feed that his transitions weren’t smooth.
