DNC Uses Flag Desecration Video to Raise Funds

Fox News: One of 20 finalists in the Democratic National Committee's "Health Reform Video Challenge," the video shows the Los Angeles-based graffiti artist "Saber" at work, according to a copy of the video posted to YouTube. The DNC is using the splattered Old Glory to pick up some change, asking for donations to air the winner of its contest. "[T]o put the winning ad on national television, we'll need folks to chip in and help cover the cost of getting the ad on the air," the DNC says on its my.BarackObama.com Web site, which hosts its Organizing for America campaign program.

I’m sorry, but I don’t think this is a big deal at all. It feels quite nit-picky, and I think there are more than enough legitimate reasons to oppose the current healthcare reform plan other than to bash a video made by an artist.

kdj   October 29th, 2009 - 9:53 am

Good thing they were all about bringing the parties together to get things done. That won’t upset conservatives at all. Maybe they’ll use that one and alienate some more moderates and Independents too.

kdj   October 29th, 2009 - 9:55 am

mattyc, I don’t think anyone is worried about the fact that an artist made a video. I think they’re pointing it out that the DNC is holding a contest for creating propaganda and chose this as a finalist. The contestant was just making a point that it might be a bad call. And it probably is.

H2K   October 29th, 2009 - 10:00 am

Now, I would also expect to see the video of the business end of used toilet paper in a DNC-approved ad. They are always so cool! Flag desecration, hip hop, rap, children’s chants to the leader, all over the top and all “oh so hip”!

If you don’t respect your country’s flag, then you don’t respect your country.

And, that is a VERY BIG DEAL!

Are you that selfish?

FoxxyLady   October 29th, 2009 - 10:37 am

Interesting that death is the major theme of this obvious health care propaganda video but nothing is mentioned about the millions of babies who are killed in abortions. And let’s make sure they specifically highlight late term abortions…you know that’s when they have to murder the baby before they abort it.

Disrespect for the flag seems to be a constant thread in all lib/hippie/Democrat/anti-American protest. That the DNC chooses to ‘honor’ it just means they’re showing who they really are.

I have lost all respect for the Democrat party and all that claim to belong to it through their ACTIONS through the years. This is but another example.

I suppose we could get into an argument about symbolism and then trade jabs attacking each other’s patriotism, but then we’d be getting away from the real issue. And getting away from the real issue is exactly what throwing a fit about this video does.

As I stated in my first post, there are plenty of legitimate things to complain about in regards to the current reform legislation.

Did they promise you hope and change only to find out that what they ment is you stand in line with your hand out hoping they give you some “CHANGE”?….Well have we got a deal for you, come get in on the craze that is sweeping the nation, “DUMP THE LIARS” all around america people like you Democrats, Republicans and Independents are stickin it to the man. Now I know what your asking?; will it cost much, will my friends and family like it, does it come with a warrantee The answer is YES… YES… and well… er… no. Freedom is never free but worth any cost… over 11 generations of Americans have loved it…. and well when its broke you have to fix it. Now your wondering… Gee it sounds good but how do I get in on it…. EASY Speak Up Loud and Often, Demand Respect, Demand Answers.

Paul Wolfowitz   October 29th, 2009 - 11:56 am

Don’t you schmucks know you are living under and Israeli flag? BTW, send more Americans to die in Afghanistan before you start that next war for us in Iran.

kmichaels   October 29th, 2009 - 11:57 am

matty, the real issue is more than one issue. In this case the issue is that the DNC chooses an anti-flag video to represent their views. That means that one of the issues is that the DNC has a bizarre view of America that tends to denigrate America at the same time they are proposing a socialistic solution for what they consider the problem. The fact that you can’t see this set of problems that the DNC has means you are just part of that problem.

kmichaels   October 29th, 2009 - 12:00 pm

Bad news for anti-jew “Wolfowitz” new poll shows anti-Jew sentiment in USA is at an all time low. You are even a bigger irrelevant minority than before.

mattyc   October 29th, 2009 - 12:11 pm

kmichaels –

please don’t include me in the problem. You have no idea who I am or where I stand on anything. I won’t generalize you either.

My point is that the GOP, many conservatives and those who consider themselves “right of center” tend to pick the wrong battles. In the end it feels petty, unjustly pious and just a huge time waster.

Typically, you only have a short time to make your point to a listening audience. If the time is used to bring up sideshow issues while the real problems are largely left untouched, then the mission of the opposition has failed, while the ruling majority has succeeded.

I say choose your battles carefully, and make sure the battles you choose to enter are those that have the greatest impact for your particular point of view.

When there are much more important things at stake than the flag, my opinion is to leave the flag battle for later and pick it back up when the larger problems have been laid to rest.

“desecrating” the flag is not the problem, it’s a symptom. Treating the symptom only helps on the surface, but in order to get rid of that symptom forever, you must get to the root of the actual problem.

Hitler   October 29th, 2009 - 12:11 pm

You are wrong, as usual, kmichaels. The fact that you see this insignificant event as an issue is the problem. Not everyone has to march lock-step with you to love his country.

kmichaels   October 29th, 2009 - 1:00 pm

mattyc, you are most definitely part of the problem. If you don’t have respect for the country and your only concern is to let socialistic backwards programs pass into law quietly with no complaint then you sure in hell are part of the problem.

kmichaels   October 29th, 2009 - 1:03 pm

The book burning seems to be coming from the liberals that want to shut down real Americans that dare to complain about anti-Americans at DNC denigrating our country in order to push socialism. Sorry you book burning freedom of speech squelching liberals will not get your selfish way on this one.

Name calling gets nowhere. But I will point out that the stars and stripes is indeed the flag of our country. And it was first carried in the revolutionary war (1776). It is not a military flag. Each individual unit of all the services has their own ‘battle standard’. Personally I could care less if some retard wants to spray paint the flag and then write ignorant claims on it. Just dont come to my house and desecrate the flag I fly year round. You’ll get 11 rounds center mass.

Okay, I won’t criticize the video, nor the artist. But I will certainly criticize a United States President who hosts a flag desecration video on his website, hand-chosen by some of his trusted allies.

GOP –

thanks?

I think my biggest problem is just spewing a bunch of words instead of thinking out a logical response. My advice to you is to work on your response.

Frankly, I’m tired of the blaming, name calling and whatnot.

I can’t remember the last time there was actually an honest debate about anything.

I’m ready to clean the government house from top to bottom and just start over. Our current system is such a corrupt, game playing joke.

ynot4tony2   October 29th, 2009 - 2:40 pm

To the user calling themselves “GOP = Gay Old Party”

I’m sorry, but the last thing I need is lessons in how to be civil and how to not be ignorant from some tool who uses “Gay” to insult millions of people he has never met.

Have you realized what a joke you are yet?

mattyc   October 29th, 2009 - 2:43 pm

ynot4tony2 –

that’s not my point. My point is to ignore the stupid things and really zero in on the things that matter. There are plenty of legitimate things to criticize, and typically, if you ignore the stupid things, they will go away.

The problem right now for the right is they’re giving WAY too much attention to the stupid things. If the right would focus on the bigger, more important things instead of getting bogged down with the former, I think there would be much progress made.

In fact, I argue that if you deal with the big things effectively, the lesser things will also be dealt with in the process.

Those who are foolish enough, to not speak out about the tiny sympotoms (in persuit of the larger problem) they see all around them, are the very same people who act amazingly astonished when, in the end, they find that those symptoms where actually the problem.

can you give me several examples from history to make your case?

eveh   October 29th, 2009 - 3:49 pm

I have no use for this group of people at all. I knew there are a few who have good human and family values but lately they sure seem to be few and far between. Most of the Obama followers are a sorry excuse for Americans. But then again, they hate America and all it stands for apparently. I hear Cuba is taking in idiots and so is venezuela.
IF you voted for Obama just to have a black President, when you have to pay a fine for not having insurance and realize that your Utilities is going sky high because of “going green”…and there is no handout but a tax hike…let me know how that is working out for you.
And if you are a Christian, not a pretend one, a real one, and you voted for these man knowing about Rev Wright and knowing Obama’s stand on abortion and knowing he is in bed with the Gays on issues..shame on you. You should have waited for a person with more integrity. This man has none. There, I’ve had my say. I know it won’t change any minds but It sure makes me feel better.

doogle   October 29th, 2009 - 3:54 pm

mattyc – What do you consider to be a “big deal” or “the things that matter”; which “battles” would you CHOOSE to fight; what are the “points” you want to make to the audience with the limited time you’d have; what are the “legitimate things to complain about”?

We already know respect for America and her flag are not any of the above to you.

Please enlighten us…

dina little   October 29th, 2009 - 4:31 pm

That was so retarded.

Early Cuyler   October 29th, 2009 - 4:34 pm

We probably need to get a new flag, one with a hammer and sickle on it. Look at the people in the White House…we’re all Communists now. Hopenchange!!!

mattyc   October 29th, 2009 - 4:34 pm

doogle – first off – there’s absolutely nothing in any of my posts that show any disrespect for the American flag or America as a nation.

1. Politicians who will not be honest (in any party) – and there are plenty

2. Special interests that get more attention in DC than constituents

3. Getting ourselves deeper and deeper into debt as a nation instead of reevaluating and absolutely cutting out wasteful spending

4. Favoritism of certain corporations depending on who is in the White House

5. Regulating the wrong things the wrong ways (i.e., housing market)

6. Using billions and billions in resources (while going further into debt) to bring “democracy” to the Middle East when that will absolutely never work

7. Not expanding energy research to find better oil resources, nuclear resources or effective alternative resources

8. There must be some type of healthcare reform and tort reform

9. Forcing our politicians and leaders across the board (military, etc) to answer questions clearly and openly, instead of continuing to allow them to skirt issues and get us stuck in difficult and often situations that are impossible to win

10. Standing up against government corruption. Between lobbyists, pork, politicians, and the wizards behind the scenes who can cover up anything, it’s time to clean house.

When I look across the political landscape, I hear lots of talk and little to no action. If action is so difficult to actually produce, perhaps there needs to be a reevaluation of how things are done. I’m convinced that every politician on Capitol Hill is more concerned with staying in power than caring for the people of this nation. Everything is a talking point, everything is grandstanding, but nothing is getting done.

My original point about the video above is that it’s simply a distraction from the major issues that are crumbling the national foundation, and have been for some time. Citizens are too often like sheep, following whatever whim they’re convinced to follow. I’m not interested anymore.

I’m cynical and skeptical. When I see a politician on TV or read quotes in an article, I generally do not believe one word. I’m tired of feeling this way, but as long as we continue the way we are going, I don’t think that will change any time soon.

So there you go – the above list isn’t complete, but they are things that I deem incredibly important and quite possibly more toward the root of our problems. Yes, some of them could still be considered “symptomatic”, but I’d argue they’re more toward the heart of our issues than a video where an artist paints over a painted American flag.

As I said in another post – if you deal with the root, you’ll get the branches.

John   October 29th, 2009 - 7:18 pm

To those who think this is no problem and this kind of propaganda ok then I suggest you find another country to live in, RESPECT THE FLAG, THE COUNTRY, AND HAVE RESPECT FOR THOSE THAT DIED FOR THIS FLAG TO KEEP YOU FREE.
People like “mattyc” need to talk to those who fought to keep this country free. SO YOU DEFACE MY FLAG YOU WANT TO DEFACE MY COUNTRY AND YOU ARE ASKING FOR A FIGHT. THE DNC HAS NOW STARTED SOMETHING THEY CAN NOT FINISH EXCEPT BY LEAVING THE COUNTRY AND GOING TO CUBA, RUSSIA, OR CHINA, LET THEM DO IT THERE.

Rock   October 29th, 2009 - 8:00 pm

Please read mattyc again, his points are correct, however I might suggest given there are so many problems, and we are hamstrung with a Judicial system that is in bed with the left, many are left with the feeling that there is little chance of turning this disaster around. Each area is a potential powder keg with a fuse waiting to be lit. Which one is hard to tell but at some point I fear someone will light one and everything changes. Why the left keeps pushing is the only question. As for the Flag I put mine up every day, and put it away each night, if some fool feels the need to express his liberal leanings he may find he has no pole to fly his junk on.

doogle   October 29th, 2009 - 8:07 pm

mattyc – All good and valid points…you’ll get no argument from me on any of those.

But, I will not ignore people that deface the American flag.
