As usual, Charles gets to the heart of the matter. Mr. Obama cannot make a decision because he is used to a controlled outcome to make him look smart and when that isn’t guaranteed, he won’t make a decision or will cast about for someone else to blame when his wrong-headed decision goes bad. What has he made a good decision on so far…..TARP?…Automobile industry?…..Banking industry?…..Housing?…..

“Does this fool have a spine?”

Who? McCain or Krauthammer? McCain, no. Krauthammer, only metaphorically speaking. He lost his spine in a car accident but he bravely fights for Israel to the detriment of the US every single day. I’m sure he wishes he could dance along with his Israeli colleagues who danced for joy while filming the WTC collapse.

Obama was supposed to bring in a fresh change. He talked a lot about a “new age of self-responsibility”. Neithr Obama nor the Democrats we put in office are acting responsibly. This is absolutely unforgiveable behavior on their parts. Just disgusting.

It means do you believe the US Constitution is the law of America or, are you going to continue to try to tap into your neighbor’s wallet, subvert the Constitution and follow the EGOTISTICAL MARXIST OBAMA and his corrupt Congress?

The blaming others schtick does not go over well at all in my workplace, and probably in many otyhers. We are evaluated on results, and we are responsible for our work. We can even be held responsible if someone else screws up and we do not say something or help fix the issue.

Obama would have benefitted from having a real job. It would have improved his character. Too bad for him that he is going to find out during “on-the-job training”.

Mami908   October 28th, 2009 - 10:38 am

Krauthammer complains too much. Like on Afghanistan, Obama has nearly doubled the troop levels in 9 months.

Obama approves Afghanistan troop increase- February 18, 2009

“About 38,000 U.S. troops are currently serving in Afghanistan.”
http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/02/17/obama.troops/index.html

And only a week ago:

Gates nearing his own decision on Afghanistan
http://cletuswilbury.newsvine.com/_news/2009/10/22/3413728-gates-nearing-his-own-decision-on-afghanistan

part of the reason for concern:
Army Is Worried by Rising Stress of Return Tours to Iraq – April 6, 2008
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/06/washington/06military.html

“One example of the pressure has come in Afghanistan, where the Pentagon has been unable to meet all of the commanders’ requests for more forces, in particular for several thousand military trainers.

Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates told reporters on Friday that he expected that the United States would be able to add significantly to its deployments in Afghanistan in 2009. But to do that — and to increase time at home for soldiers between deployments — probably would require further reductions in troop levels in Iraq, Pentagon planners said. ”

Some of these problems do relate to past decisions, like why we haven’t sent more troops to Afghanistan. Part of it is we are still working under the 2009 budget, passed by President Bush.

Charles Krauthammer is an extraordinarily brave man. The criticisms of him above are without any merit whatsoever and, as usual, rely on out-of-context comments for reference.

Obama is a weak leader for whom political expediency is the only concern.

My son (USMC infantry – machine gunner) came home two weeks ago from deployment #2 in Iraq. Rumors are circulating about where his unit is going next. It would not surprise me at all to have to watch him go over there. He told me that if they need people to go and ask for volunteers, he’ll go. He’ll be joining his cousin/best friend, a West Point grad in 5th Stryker.

Stop them from what? Living in peace? We are the one invading their country. If we stopped wholesale murder of civilians and overthrowing other countries and simply closed our border this would be safer than stirring up hornet’s nests while allowing anyone who wants to into the country. Don’t you get it – your government profits enormously from your LACK of safety. Even with all we do to antagonize other countries we still usually have to cook up our own excuses to go to war. Gulf of Tonkin is a fine example but not an isolated one.

wws   October 28th, 2009 - 11:31 am

here is *my* prediction of what he will do, based on my own analysis of his character in previous situations. In a way it’s better than the plan to destroy America that some have envisioned; but it may also be worse.

I strongly suspect that Obama has led a life in which he has *always* been able to find the easy way out, and up till now this has always worked for him.

Look at his biography – sure, his mother’s troubles are well documented, but at an early age he went to live with his wealthy hawaiian grandparents, one of whom was a bank vice president. Come on – even as a kid, he lived the dream that the rest of us could only fantasize about. He went to one of the best prep schools in the state. Then he partied his way through his undergrad degree at Occiental – notice how the records have never been released? (well, there’s that possible Indonesian Exchange Student thing) But he presented well, and he got someone big to clear his way to Harvard (he didn’t do it on his own, no way)
Now I want to make a point about his Harvard career that I haven’t seen made before, because I think it is a very close parrallel to what is happening with Obama’s Presidency:

At Harvard, he became editor of the Law Review through a *combination* of grades and a popularity contest – but although you know he didn’t produce any articles, most don’t quite realize the significance of this. The *reason* that Editor of the Law Review at any law school is so prestigious is that it gives *that* person the right to pick and author the most prestigious and significant research that may be open at the time. This in turn is used as a hiring marker for the various judicial clerkships and big Wall Street firms – the successful author of a lead article will literally have his choice of positions.
It is *Unheard* of for someone to rise to this position and then to just kick back and do nothing at all but coast through a years worth of meetings with his feet on the table – but that is exactly what Obama did. He *never* wrote anything, and although I haven’t verified this, I suspect he is the *only* Harvard Law Review editor who has *never* written any actual research. It was an astounding failure, but not just a failure – it was a total lack of effort.

*This* is why he never went on to any senior judicial clerkship, which he should have done, and why he never went to any big law firm but instead ended up with some community activist group in Chicago. Potential employers looked at his record and saw a very glib and well spoken screw-off. Well, guys like that are a dime a dozen in this world. That’s why his legal career failed.

He still had his gift of gab and good looks, which is always useful in machine politics. Since then, he’s had a helping hand pushing him from one legislative office to another – he’s never actually had to do any work. He didn’t have to raise the money, other people did that, he didn’t come up with the strategy, Axelrod did that, he didn’t have to build the organization, other people did that for him. He has *never* had to do anything in his life besides show up and take the easy way out. Somehow he managed to ride this incredible run of good luck all the way up to the Presidency, and he has never in his life had to do anything but show up, smile, and say some vaguely reassuring words to his fans.

And now, for the very first time in his life, he has to face the reality that there is no easy way out. He has literally never been truly responsible for *anything* in his life up to this point – Heck of a time to think about growing up!!! I suspect he’s going to do the same thing as he did at the Harvard law Review – now that something is being required of him, I think he’s going to put his feet up on the desk and just pretend that everything is going to work out. And when it doesn’t he’ll search for someone to blame rather than fixing anything, which is always the other easy way out. And when that doesn’t work, he’ll find a way to quit, if not literally, then at least in real terms. Just as he did at Harvard.
That’s my prediction. What is Obama going to do when things get really bad? He’s going to make Herbert Hoover look like an activist, that’s what he’s going to do. Because he doesn’t have it in him to do anything else, and he never did. Oh, he’ll have plenty of underlings that will try stuff – Emmanual and Pelosi and Reid, oh my. But they’ll all be at cross purposes and all be at each others throats while Obama is smiling and waving and pretending that Prosperity is Just Around the Corner. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if, by 2011, he doesn’t start finding ways to spend most of his time outside of the country.

Now how we deals with his own supporters once this administration collapses into incoherent incompetence is going to be the most interesting game to watch. They’re already starting to figure out that things aren’t going well – when they finally realize they’ve been snookered by a false messiah things could get very ugly indeed.

ProudMarineMom   October 28th, 2009 - 11:36 am

The horse is already out of the barn, Rex. Our “invasion” (your word, not mine) started when my son was in middle school. His mission is to help restore peace, not disrupt it. One of his jobs in Iraq was patrolling around schools so the kiddies could have some semblence of normal life. That, and clearing IEDs from outside shops and mosques. He keeps sending them OUR money while they continue to defy a variety of laws by expanding settlements when they need to be abandoning them IF they were honestly seeking peace. Obama groveled at AIPAC. All our candidates are determined by CFR/AIPAC at that level. That is why we are cutting our own throats AND paying for it with our support and aid to Israel.

“Simple minds engage in simple reductionisms.”

Simple as Occam’s Razor, yes.

Charles Krauthammer is an excellent political commentator. We don’t even allow our OWN troops to do that HERE! Imagine a foreign one doing that. There would be no shortage of excuses to allow it – that gang rape after the homecoming dance in California, for example.

“That, and clearing IEDs from outside shops and mosques. What don’t YOU get about what Marines do?”

These IED’s – how long have they been used? I don’t recall much of a concern about these before our invasion. Sort of like all the “insurgents” that appear after we invade someone’s country. Those “insurgents” would be farmers if we weren’t there. Who is the problem?

Our troops are there guarding the poppy fields. The Taliban are the ones destroying them.

And I’m sure William of Ockham’s principle would have led him to believe the “Protocols of the Elders of Zion” too?

Stooges who cite Occam’s Razor would give appearance of intelligence. But when they cite William of Ockham’s principle to buttress idiot conspiracy theories on the inside job of the 911 terrorist attack, or Zionist conspiracies, they simply show their idiocy multiplied.

Next you’ll try citing Einstein’s physics to lend support to your idiocy. But that won’t work either because idiocy is not made credible by citing credible people. IDIOT!

Rexter   October 28th, 2009 - 1:13 pm

“And I’m sure William of Ockham’s principle would have led him to believe the “Protocols of the Elders of Zion” too?”

If he spoke to Nuttyahoo and see how we have an Israeli citizen who served a foreign military as White House Chief of Staff and saw things like Madoff, Bear-Sterns, and Goldman Sachs he would.

I’ll leave you with some excerpts from Einstein:

“Among the most disturbing political phenomena of our times is the emergence in the newly created state of Israel of the “Freedom Party” (Tnuat Haherut), a political party closely akin in its organization, methods, political philosophy and social appeal, to the NAZI and FASCIST parties. It was formed out of the membership and following of the former Irgun Zvai Leumi, a TERRORIST, right-wing, chauvinist organization in Palestine.

The current visit of Menachem Begin, leader of this (“Freedom”) party, to the United States is obviously calculated to give the impression of American support for his party in the coming Israeli elections, and to cement political ties with conservative Zionist elements in the United States.

Today they speak of freedom, democracy and anti-imperialism, whereas until recently they openly preached the doctrine of the FASCIST STATE. It is in its actions that the TERRORIST PARTY portrays its real character; from its past actions we can judge what it may be expected to do in the future.

A shocking example was their behavior in the Arab village of Deir Yassin. This village, off the main roads and surrounded by Jewish lands, had taken no part in the war, and had even fought off Arab bands who wanted to use the village as their base. On April 9 (The New York Times), TERRORIST BANDS attacked this peaceful village, which was not a military objective in the fighting, killed most of its inhabitants – 240 men, women, and children – and kept a few of them alive to parade as captives through the streets of Jerusalem.”

Rexter I think even Obama would think your version of the war in Afghanistan was messed up. They (our troops) are trying to help prop up their own emerging government. The insurgents do not want Afghanistan to succeed so they keep killing civilians in order to discourage them, and keep everything in chaos. We are also training the Afghanistan police and are there to help protect the population. And I am surprised you are not aware of Obama’s new policy of not allowing our troops to return fire if there is any possible chance of civilians being killed or injured.

Although this is admirable, it is costing us more deaths, and making the attacks more frequent, and deadlier. THEY don’t care if they kill civilians, they don’t value life. It is a lose, lose proposition for our troops and the death toll just keeps rising. And how about some respect, and compassion for one of our military moms who has to live in fear for her son everyday? Obama needs to stop blaming Bush, and either give them the troops they need, or get them out of there. He has spent more time attacking Fox than discussing our situation in Afghanistan. – Christ.

eh, Krauthammer is just another big tent conservative. i don’t know why warfarism has become synomous with conservatism. the framers would have been outraged with our keystone cop approach to foreign affairs. by allowing these corrupt lawmakers to make preemptive war at will, without declaring war, we’ve sacrificed our liberties; enslaved our children, grandchildren, and so forth with trillions in debt; and have made slaves of ourselves with a fat, totalitarian government that gives us laws like the Patriot Act, supposedly to contend with a terrorism problem THEY caused by meddling in the affars of unstable foreign governments. With the necons we get warfarism and bigger debt; with the libs we get welfarism and more taxes. if Krauthammer wants the troops to be safe, he should be demanding their immediate return home, and then let the world know that the policeman is off-duty.

mick   October 28th, 2009 - 1:33 pm

Hey Rexter, here is some truth for you:

Romand Emperor Hadrian destroyed Jewish Jerusalem, plowing the city under and filling the furrows with salt. He renamed it Aelia Capitolina, in part after his own name, and built a shrine to the Roman god Jupiter on the site where the Holy Jewish Temple had once stood.

But he also chose to rename Judea with that of the hated ancient enemy of Israel; the now long extinct Philistines. This was done as a lasting insult to the Jewish people. Hadrian thus renamed the land Philistia, later Latinized into Palestina and, in time, becoming Palestine.

We should note that the Philistines were known as the “Sea Peoples” whom, it is believed, originated from Crete. They settled along much of the south eastern Mediterranean coastline and certainly had nothing to do with the ancestry of any Arabs — despite the deluded imaginings of the late arch terrorist, Yasser Arafat.

The usage of the Hadrianic term, Palestine, was subsequently absorbed into the lexicon of the Church, which has continued to use the historically incorrect term, Palestine, when referring to biblical history in maps and literature: often replacing the word, Israel.

Interestingly, when the Crusader King Frederick II obtained a lease of much of the Holy Land from the Egyptian Sultan, Al-Kamil, including Bethlehem, Nazareth and Jerusalem, he called it the Kingdom of Jerusalem.

When Great Britain was awarded the Mandate for the territory in 1920 by the League of Nations, it immediately employed the term, Palestine, on both sides of the River Jordan.

The British term became the geo-political usage for several decades and the Jewish community was obliged to use terms such as the Palestine Post for today’s Jerusalem Post and the Palestine Symphony Orchestra for today’s Israel Symphony Orchestra. The historically correct name, Israel, was finally revived after the reconstituted State of Israel proclaimed its independence in 1948.

No such place as Palestine existed in Christ’s time or at the time of the biblical Jewish Judges or Kings. The Jewish patriarchs, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, never lived in a place called Palestine, nor did any of the biblical prophets. Canaan would be accurate for patriarchal times but the Canaanites, the Philistines, and a host of other pagan tribes had already long disappeared by later biblical times. Indeed, as we know, no independent state called Palestine has ever existed in recorded history, certainly not an Arab one. Palestine – like, for instance, Patagonia or Siberia – has always been merely a geographical area.

Those still believing in historical correctness, not the dubious and transitory concept known as political correctness, might wish to urge publishers and writers to restore historical correctness to the nomenclature in their works.

It is sad to witness glaring historical errors in such titles as: Palestine in Biblical Times; Palestine under the Time of the Judges; Palestine in the Times of the Kings or Jesus’ Palestine, when a geographical territory called Palestine did not even exist during those times.

After all, we do not write of Alexander the Great’s journey through Bactria as Alexander in Afghanistan. Nor do we describe the invasion into Carthage of Scipio Africanus as Scipio in Tunisia. So why use the term, Palestine, to describe a historical period and location when that word had not yet been invented?

Surely the use by authors and bible commentators of a name that never existed until at least 135 AD can finally begin to be corrected.

After all, historical correctness must always trump political correctness. American Thinker

It’s a shame those Palestinians don’t understand the truth of history, that Jerusalem was Mt. Zion, and those who now occupy/own it, have roots there going all the way back to 2,000 BC. It’s a shame isn’t it? Palestine is a modern word, never a nation, and never will be. Deal with it!

“They (our troops) are trying to help prop up their own emerging government.”

Emerging from what? The destruction we reined down on it? We pay to destroy it and then pay to protect a puppet government that we “build” for them. Know who Smedly Butler is? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smedley_Butler He put it succinctly – war is a racket. The war machine works awfully hard to make sure that message isn’t passed on from generation to generation.

“Although this is admirable, it is costing us more deaths, and making the attacks more frequent, and deadlier.” I wasn’t aware of that policy but if they weren’t there at all it wouldn’t be an issue to begin with. What do you want – Americans to be more hated for killing innocents? Is that safe? Funny how Bush’s “Hearts and Minds” slogan was just a line and you still don’t get it.

“THEY don’t care if they kill civilians, they don’t value life.” You think David Rockefeller does? How about Paul Wolfowitz? Madeline Albright? They don’t care if either Americans or foreigners die – it all advances their goals towards GLOBALISM. You like our troops being used as pawns?

“It is a lose, lose proposition for our troops and the death toll just keeps rising.” That’s how unjust wars turn out and they knew that going in. The point of war is, among other things, to waste resources and justify scarcity and grab more power and money for the government. All that has happened and you are still being distracted with this oldest trick in the book form of magician’s misdirection. Read Creature from Jekyll Island.

“And how about some respect, and compassion for one of our military moms who has to live in fear for her son everyday?” By muffling my criticism of a corrupt system that has placed her son in danger in the first place? Not on your life.

SEIG HEIL! SEIG HEIL OBAMA! SEIG HEIL!

Jana   October 28th, 2009 - 2:26 pm

I appreciate your time in discussing this line by line Rexter, but it is a mute point at this time. It is what it is. We entered into war looking for WOMD and ended up trying to “make the world free for Democracy” -but unlike South Vietnam who ASKED for our help, and the Indo China Treaty that required us to render assistance, we were not invited.

On this point, I agree. However, we are there. Obama thinks we should be there as well, HE put more troops there this year. Regardless of the ideology behind what started the war, we have to address the situation as it stands today. It is wasted effort finger pointing, and looking back at this point. All I am saying is, Obama needs to make this his TOP priority. Not the Olympic games, not Fox news, not his health care.

We rushed three stimulus plans through because “We had to act immediately”, I find it curious that Obama has not addressed this situation with the same passion. ‘He SHOULD have had a plan in place in the first place’ if he considers himself different than Bush. (and if you say the situation changed, then you have to give Bush the same break on strategy gone awry.);)

It’s Hammer time. His comments are spot on. I think Charles is on Obama’s list now. Rexter, that is bad Carma bringing up a handicapped statements like that. Worse then the mirror thing I bet. Attack statements and views not physical disabilities.

BJC   October 28th, 2009 - 2:44 pm

Obamanation will only claim responsibility if it’s for something going good. If it’s going bad it has to be someone else’s fault. The economy in a slump, Bush’s fault…economy showing sign of improvement, Obama’s plans working…economy back in slump, Bush’s fault…Obamanation polls high, smart Americans ready for change…Obamanation polls down, FOX and dumb Americans…I think you see the pattern here as the list could go on and on.

OMG   October 28th, 2009 - 3:36 pm

Don’t know why anyone is surprised. That is what to expect when you elect a person to public office whose only jobs have been “community organizer” (read that to mean ‘trouble maker’) and College Professor (read that to mean ‘resident marxist’).

America got what it deserved since so many stayed at home given the choice of candidates or voted against their better judgment.

I feel like I’m living in a parallel universe. Messiah was elected president partly out of white guilt, partly on his “coolness,” and partly on the fact that the press had turned the American people against Bush and Repubs.

But “coolness” does not equal competence. Almost every day, Messiah says or does something that shows him to be totally out of his level of competence and a laughingstock even here in Oregon, one of the blue-est of blue states. My only hope is that the damage he causes before being kicked out on his rear is minimal and fixed by the next president, Dem or Repub.

If you blamed others at your Job, would you still have one today? Even it some of those Mistakes were yours and yours alone. What if you told your boss to “Shut Up and Just Let me Clean up YOUR Mess.” Would you still have a Job? Also for the Military Lawyers out there. Does Obama as Commander in Chief fall under the UCMJ? If So, he has violated a bunch of Military Laws. Maybe we could get him Court Martial-ed. Just Wondering.

Im on board with WWS however it leads to a moral quandary of which I’d like feedback from fellow conservatives. Obviously, we never walk away from a fight but considering the present situation with a manchild in office who is incapable and unqualified to lead our military and will only continue to place them at a disadvantage; surrounded by the likes of HRC, who only today, commended the Pakistani leader on his terrific job of fighting terrorists (ref: Bush to “Brownie” doing a great job after Katrina) why not bring the troops home? Do we stick to ideals and continue to watch our bravest die? Yes, I do sound like an anti-war lib but in this war we have no leadership. There is nobody supporting our troops either at the White House or congressional level. Unfortunately, this isn’t Washington crossing the Deleware while the Continental Congress fidgets over whose in charge. We have a president and congress who I believe are purposely using our troops in such a way to further seperate themselves from Bush so as to forever pass along ever-lasting blame on the previous administration. Unless you can figure out a way to fight this war while maneuvering around Obama, Biden, Clinton and the rest, as a conservative, I say we bring them home. For God sakes, Obama’s own Secretary of Defense, Gates, is pleading with his own president to get involved! How pathetic and embarrassing. What say you?

Obama lies – Soldiers die

billwhit   October 29th, 2009 - 4:14 am

This Pantywaist of a President is getting Americans and our Allies killed by his pussyfooting around! Obama hates our military and anything that resembles True America. The only thing that Odumba has done is beat our Jimah Carter as being the Worst President Ever! He has lied about everything, including his birth and records, and Odumba and his Ms Ugliness are nothing but racist blacks!

Impeach this asswipe!

When you are in the corner and have got no money to get out from that point, you will have to take the loans. Just because that will help you unquestionably. I take consolidation loans every time I need and feel myself great just because of it.
