I do not see the justification in any of those videos for armored police to attack non-violent protesters with clubs. I personally watched identical behavior at APEC in Vancouver in 1998. It was disgraceful then and it is disgraceful now.
If the point is the break up the demonstration, then the reasonable thing to do would be to pull out various demonstrators a few at a time, tie-strap their arms and remove them from the area. Beating non-violent people only seems to lead to violence.
