Dems Refuse to Sign Pledge to Read Health Care Bill Before Passing It Into Law

Let Freedom Ring: By close of business on Monday, July 20th, we will release the names of those who have signed, those who have declined to sign and those who have failed to respond. We will then begin targeted publicity campaigns thanking those who have signed and taking to task those who have not.

This is an excellent idea! They should have done this with the stimulus package.

H2K   July 20th, 2009 - 1:41 pm

This was a brilliant tactic by the republicans. If like Obama says we’ll have improved health care under his plan, there should be no trouble in signing it. Right? Right?

Teach them English   July 20th, 2009 - 2:19 pm

Who says they can understand the written word. They know it is crap – they just don’t want to have to answer the question later down the road “didn’t you know what you were voting for?”.

Make no mistake, both parties are guilty of this. Solutions are easy but won’t happen because then they won’t be able to sneak legislation through in a dishonest manner. Neither party want’s transparency of process.

innominateuser   July 20th, 2009 - 2:21 pm

Dr. Mary Pat Jordan, I think you might be the whack job here. Exactly what’s wrong with reading a bill before signing it? Why would this be something limited only to the realm of “right wing” people? Are you saying that “left wing” people don’t need to read bills before signing them into law?

It’s sad that people like you are so blinded by the “right vs. left” argument. What we’re talking about here is ensuring that laws are read and understood before signing them into law.

I shudder to think that you, as a “Dr.” of something, would not read a patient’s medical report before performing surgery, or would not read a student’s final paper before assigning a grade.

Dr(?) Jordan,
What is wrong with asking someone, who represents you, to pledge to accept
the same health coverage he is forcing on you? By the way, don’t shout.
Your “cute” statement and “hold my breath” shows that
you aren’t much of a thinker. I take it that you are not a physician nor
educator.

OK “Dr.” now you’ve completely exposed yourself as the wacko amongst us. What does Bush have to do with any of this? If anything, this is about supporting Obama’s desire for “more transparency and accountability” in government.

Stay focused there.

tango   July 20th, 2009 - 2:43 pm

So Dr. Jordan, are you trying to say when you bought your house, financed a new car, accepted a job via an offer letter with details, applied for a passport, bought an airline ticket, etc, you didn’t read ANY of the details or contracts before signing or completing the transaction? You just took the word of the person or organization that wrote those documents that your interests were fully covered and there was nothing in there that could be harmful to you?

I very much doubt that you signed major contracts without reflection, analysis and consideration for what you were doing so to make sure your interests were protected. So why is it outrageous to ask our legislators to do the same? That’s what they’re supposed to do. Protect the interest of those who voted for them!

Dr Pat is a perfect example of hateful stupidity which is at th heart of the the Democrat party and all those on the Left. Ignore her…Everything she says is hateful.Just like Garofalo….Olbermann and Matthews and Maddow…. and every G@y Org in the country along with every Atheist Anti-Christ groups in the country. They hate America…They hate those who worked hard to make it..They hate the traditional family…they hate the unborn…They support deviance….they want open boarders and want a World Govt which is totally anti-Christ and totalitarian.
The Dems not promising to actually READ the bill and post it as was promised…and IS their JOB…shows how Evil and treasonous they really are. Lies are their way of life…just like Dr.Pat….Pelosi and Reid etc….
But Obama…their Messiah is an extremely Evil man….he is all lies. he may even be the Anti-Christ.
If you want to save your soul…and our country…stand up to these haters…Say what you believe…don’t be afraid of them…We have God on our side…and the true American way and the Constitution.
Vote these Commies out come 2010 and 2012…before they pull not only our country to the gates of hell….but also our souls…and our children’s souls to Hell.

Any member who refuses to read the bill that will totally cripple the health care in this country..should be fired and lose any tax payer benefits they get.
And further the American people should have at the very least 72 hours to review the bill..and decide if they want socialised medicine.

America…did not Bilderberg Bush-Obama run on this statement?

That he wouldn’t sign one bill that has not been available for all to read at least 72 hrs ahead of time?

He lied, again, America! He lied, again!

But we need to hold the Democratzi and him to this promise.

Make them sign this document…it was a campaign promise made…now they own it and should sign it!

When you call them daily…tell them to sign this document and own up to that promise!

Do not forget to tell them to ask for that “original” birth certificate under lock and key in Hawaii! It is the only way to get rid of him legally before he destroys our great nation from within!

I think it is ingenious! We voted for representation. They have not really been representing the average American. They have been representing private interest groups, lobbyists and have been under pressure from Obama & co. to vote for their legislation — or else! The dems threaten the other dems with withholding funds for re-election campaigns etc. Newsflash– have you Dems looked at the polls lately? Americans are NOT in favor of the present health care legislation, they were NOT in favor of the the automakers takeover, they were NOT in favor of the baillouts and guess what they trust Republicans, yes Repulicans on 8 out of the 10 top issues facing the nation. I don’t think the campaign dollars will help.
If they can’t agree to read legislation , they don’t belong in Congress. We are keeping track of what they are doing. This is what we need to keep reminding these reps about. The only thing 98% of them care about is being re-elected. We are sick of the deceit and lies. Let Freedom Ring– that has a wonderful sound to it.

I pledged to work tirelessly with my friends and neighbors against any representative who refused to sign this pledge to make sure they no longer had their job.

It is a small thing to ask our representatives to DO THEIR JOBS and know what they are signing. The vast majority of representatives in Washington have a legal background and would never allow a client to sign a contract they had not read first, why should we expect any less?

Mr. O. promised that Americans would have *FIVE DAYS* to read any proposed legislation before they voted on it. (*MANY OTHER PROMISES WERE MADE* as well; but right now, let’s focus on the SO-CALLED HEALTH CARE REFORM BILL, and MAKE DAMNED SURE THAT MONSTROSITY DOES *NOT* GET PASSED!!!)

THIS IS AN EXCELLENT FIRST STEP TO TRYING TO REHABILITATE THE LIARS IN OFFICE. MAKE THEM SIGN IT, OR KICK THEM OUT! HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE. EXPOSE WHO IT IS THAT IS LYING TO US AND CHEATING US OUT OF FAIR REPRESENATION AND THE PASSAGE OF *JUST*, WELL-THOUGHT-OUT LAWS THAT SERVE ALL AMERICANS, NOT THE CHOSEN FEW…

THIS IS IMPORTANT STUFF; THEY ARE NOT IN GRADE-SCHOOL; THEY ARE MESSING AROUND WITH OUR LIVES AND HEALTH, AND THEY NEED TO KNOCK OFF THESE RUSH-JOBS–AND BY THE WAY, WHY DOES EVERY FRIGGIN’ BILL THAT COMES ALONG HAVE TO BE 1000+ PAGES SO THAT MOST PEOPLE WILL *NEVER* EVER READ IT?????

REMEMBER THE CAMPAIGN SLOGAN, “GET IN THEIR FACES”?!

Time to take him at his word and GET IN THEIR FACES on these pie-in-sky REFORM BILLS they are trying to ram-rod through at OUR (taxpayer) expense.

America cannot afford EITHER the Energy/Cap & Tax bill nor the Health Care bill. The time has come to STOP CODDLING the *OFFENDERS* in our society and start EXPECTING PEOPLE TO GROW UP AND LIVE RESPONSIBLY. PERIOD.

If either of these crazy Bills passes, we will see even worse calamities in our country than we are presently witnessing and enduring. If you have not called your legislators today, please do so now. Keep those phones & faxes ringing! And make sure they understand: They HAVE TO sign this PLEDGE to READ THE DAMNED BILL BEFORE VOTING or they will be OUSTED, permanently.

Two days before the election, now-President Obama promised: “When it comes to health care, we don’t have to choose between a government-run health care system and the unaffordable one we have now. If you already have health insurance, the only thing that will change under my plan is that we will lower premiums. If you don’t have health insurance you’ll be able to get the same kind of health insurance that Members of Congress get for themselves. And as someone who watched his own mother spend the final months of her life arguing with insurance companies because they claimed her cancer was a pre-existing condition and didn’t want to pay for treatment, I will stop insurance companies from discriminating against those who are sick and need care most. That’s the change we need. That’s why I’m running for President of the United States.”

So, America, just what sort of health care plan has Barack Obama promised us?

Morons   July 20th, 2009 - 7:37 pm

“I will not vote to enact …”

The bills is what, 450 pages? So the joke here is that any one supporting it has to read all 450 pages themselves, but you can vote against it in complete ignorance and call yourself an effective representative of the illiterate public? If I found out any member of Congress took the time to read the entire thing themselves I would be amazed (and rather insulted that they wasted time on the tax-payer clock reading something that can be summarized). What happened to the Republicans being against government waste? There is a reason we pay so many pages to work for our congress people, and no it isn’t just the lattes (see Idiocracy to get the full joke). If you think this “pledge” is anything more than politics as usual, you are a moron. If it were intended to be a meaningful, watchdog-type proposal it would read:

“I will not vote one way or the other …”

YES! THIS IS WHAT I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR. ACORN TAUGHT US LAST ELECTION WHAT WE GET IF WE JUST SIT DOWN AND DO NOTHING. It gets tiring sometimes I’ve been staying up until the wee hours of the morning to blog and send messages in hopes of helping defeat this mad man at the helm. Please join me. If everyone took 30 minutes a night we can defeat this tyrant.

Yes Acorn is mobilizing as we type. We as Americans have to take back our country. Obama has called on his ACORNITES to get on the blogs to push Healthcare and work for elected officials for 2010. Look, we know how to blog to. I hate to listen to liberal lies but I am going to force myself to go on websites that are liberal and see what’s up. Check this one out folks, http://www.dailykos.com I suggest all conservatives check out this site, have an input. I have joined and will be visiting often. We can’t keep our heads in the sand we need to fight fire with fire. Visit and see. It’s not against the law to blog and believe me you will be enlightened. It will show you just how much you have to fight for. More important who you are fighting against. We have no time to sit back and think someone else will fight our fight…It’s up to YOU! Put your face out there like ACORN has, we were taught last year how they do it. It’s not hard, just show up for the fight.

(website above will show you which states ACORN democrat candidates are behind or close. They expect ACORN to get out and make some noise, so let’s do the same for the Conservatives that might be from your own state. I’m willing to send money to other state candidates to help conservatives fight against ACORN)

Look, the reason why Dem legislators won’t sign this pledge is this: the moment you agree to sign one pledge drawn up by a right wing wacko who can’t stand it that Obama won, you have to sign ALL pledges drawn up by right wing wackos who can’t it stand that Obama won. Once one pledge gets signed by one or more Dems, there will be pledges drawn up for every reason under the sun, to the point where the legislative process will grind to a halt. It’s all about setting a precedent. Thank you for allowing me to enlighten you.

Congressman John Fleming (Louisiana physician) has proposed an amendment that would require congressmen and senators to take the same healthcare plan they force on us (under proposed legislation they are curiously exempt). Congressman Fleming is encouraging people to go on his Website and sign his petition (very simple – just first, last and email).

I have immediately done just that at: http://fleming.house.gov/ . Please urge as many people as you can to do the same!

If Congress forces this on the American people, the Congressmen should have to accept the same level of health care for themselves and their families.

Thanks.

Democratic Senators voted against a proposed Amendment that would require them and their families to join the public plan which Obama wants to impose on the rest of us!!

Senators Don’t Want It Either.

In the health debate, liberals sing Hari Krishnas to the “public option” — a new federal insurance program like Medicare — but if it’s good enough for the middle class, then surely it’s good enough for the political class too? As it happens, more than a few Democrats disagree.

On Tuesday, the Senate health committee voted 12-11 in favor of a two-page amendment courtesy of Republican Tom Coburn that would require all Members and their staffs to enroll in any new government-run health plan. Yet all Democrats — with the exceptions of acting chairman Chris Dodd, Barbara Mikulski and Ted Kennedy via proxy — voted nay.

In other words, Sherrod Brown and Sheldon Whitehouse won’t themselves join a plan that “will offer benefits that are as good as those available through private insurance plans — or better,” as the Ohio and Rhode Island liberals put it in a recent op-ed. And even a self-described socialist like Vermont’s Bernie Sanders, who supports a government-only system, wouldn’t sign himself up.

Brad In Cleveland   July 21st, 2009 - 5:10 pm

Imagine, people freaking out because someone asked an elected official to actually read a piece of legislation before he votes it into law. Am I the only one who thinks that the very idea that they would vote on this, or any other bill, before reading it is insane? To be honest it’s indefensible. Right wing, left wing, doesn’t matter. What matters is what’s best for the country and I can’t think of a single circumstance where not reading the bill would be better for the country.

Dear Senators, Reps...   July 22nd, 2009 - 1:54 am

PLEASE COPY & PASTE THE FOLLOWING TEXT (between dotted lines), OR SIMILAR TEXT, AND SEND VIA EMAIL OR FAX TO YOUR SENATORS & REPS, TO PROTEST THE UNREALISTIC HEALTH & ENERGY BILLS. YOU CAN ALSO PRINT IT OUT AND SNAIL-MAIL IT. DO THIS ASAP!, IF YOU WANT TO PRESERVE OUR BELOVED COUNTRY!

===================================================================

Dear Legislator,

I am completely against the current ram-rodding through Congress of two very significant pieces of legislation: healthcare reform and energy/carbon reduction. I urge you to VOTE NO on both Bills. These issues are too important to be rushed through without a thorough discussion in the public realm. We need to get it RIGHT, not just get it done! Additionally, both of these bills appear to be way too complex and expensive (and with too much pork, especially the energy/carbon bill).

1. On healthcare: It’s one thing for the government to regulate private enterprise, another for the government to get into the healthcare business. We don’t need everybody in the country on Medicare! We must preserve private enterprise and try to reduce taxes, not increase them. And please: no illegal aliens on my tax nickel! Finally, any provision that would take benefits away from our SENIOR CITIZENS in order to try to finance this Health Bill must be removed, and any “END OF LIFE” COUNSELING that would try to pressure SENIORS into foregoing health treatment must be not only removed but strongly CONDEMNED. This Bill is a legislative nightmare that must not pass.

2. On energy/carbon: Where are the nuclear power plants, the obvious low-hanging fruit? Nuclear is not the dangerous proposition it perhaps once was (look at France, et al.). For starters, there are numerous approved sites that could be expanded or up-graded (or where this is no current plant at all). And I am highly dubious of carbon trading: From what I can see, it is not working in Europe (Scientific American). Also, the major emerging markets (China, India, etc.) are not going to participate anytime soon. Further, WHY PENALIZE HOMEOWNERS, many of whom are under-water with diminishing home values, with a scheme to force them to upgrade their houses before they can put them on the market for sale? This Bill is ill-conceived.

Please take seriously my concerns, as your response to the above will determine whether you will be removed or voted back into office next time around.

Thank you for your time in reading my concerns,

Sincerely,

An Irate American-Voter-Taxpayer
