Demo: New ‘Taser X3′ Zaps Three Targets in a Row Without Reloading

AP: Older Taser models now used by law enforcement agencies and civilians throughout the country have to be reloaded after one shot, which can be a problem for an officer who has missed a target or has more than one suspect to subdue.

Notice in their “safety” demonstration they have two people there to help the electrocuted people to the padded floor. They always have spotters in these safety demonstrations. Of course in real life the tazed person’s face or the back of their head slaps the pavement as they come crashing down. So, it’s like the cop gets to electrocute you and essentially kick you in the head in one go.

After the revolution comes, I think these Taser executives will find themselves the objects of much amusement.

Count me among the people who object to these on humanitarian grounds. Seems to me a waste of electricity when just one bullet would do the job.

In China they call these devices, cattle prods. Indicted thug Bernard Kerik makes money off of these “less than lethal” but a lot of times lethal devices.

Why were three women used in the demonstration and men assisted them to the ground?

Gandhi's Fist   July 27th, 2009 - 4:16 pm

I’m ordering one tomorrow!

What irks me about this is not the device itself, nor the people who carry it daily. I wish my department let me carry it.

What irks me about the Taser is the fact that some people will moan and wail about how “inhumane” the Taser is, while absolutely failing to provide ANY alternative at ALL. Oh, wait, we DO have alternatives. Pepper spray, night sticks, and firearms. I’ve -seen- people fight through pepper spray; heck, I’ve fought through it myself. Relying on pepper spray is how officers get killed. Nightsticks and ASPs can quite easily inflict -major- injury through blunt impact trauma; it’s how they’re designed. I have yet to hear anyone advocate getting beaten by a baseball bat as “more humane than a Taser”; the same applies for nightsticks and ASPs. And the firearm… well, that’s certainly not even in the realm of “less-lethal” force.

I can’t carry a Taser right now. Believe me, if I could, I would. But for now, I am limited to my bludgeon and my pistol, because the Taser isn’t “humane enough,” and the pepper spray is so “humane” that I could -still- get killed by a suspect even after using it on him. Yeah, that ain’t gonna happen; I’ll defend my own life first, and worry about the suspect later. The Taser allows an officer that freedom without worrying about killing the suspect.

You whiners and criers make me sick. This new Taser is nothing but a tool, and a fine one at that.

(PS – By the way, for all those who will point out the relatively few deaths associated with Tasers… to a man – or woman – those suspects were either high on drugs, had pre-existing health conditions that the officers could not have known about, or both. In many cases, such as with meth addicts, the suspect would likely have died as a result anyway, caused by overtaxing their already drugged system by fighting the officers.)

In the hands of I’d say most Officers, a marvelous tool that saves the lives of both officers and potential offenders. But the potential for abuse is there. If officers are told the use of the tazer HAS to be only in self defense, or to disarm a proveably violent subject, then fine.

I also note that without tazers, some Officers seem to be more willing to talk rationally, rather than issue commands. They don’t want the situation to escalate where they have to deploy lethal weaponry.

Mr. Smith…

I think the police should go on stike for 30 days. The General Public will appreciate you a LOT more upon your return.

And don’t worry about those of us that are “prepared”. Hopefully, we’ll get along just fine will your gone. I got a feeling Bill above would not fare well at all.

Thanks for your service, and I hope you get tasers soon.

As one of those “dumb sadists” who carries a Taser at work (correctional facility), let me assure you I am neither dumb (Master’s degree) nor a sadist. I still talk through most situations, because I can and I am most often effective at that level. The Taser is a wonderful tool to have in the toolbox. Fights and resistance have dropped to almost none since we have begun carrying Tasers. The actual Taser option (the method shown in the video) has only been used about 6 times in the past 4 years since we got them (I don’t have access to the stats at the moment). The stun portion (like the old stun guns) have been used more often (pain compliance). Just pulling the Taser out or even placing the hand on the Taser is usually enough deterrent, thereby thwarting any type of groundfighting, which is where inmates and officers get hurt. In the instances where it has been used, the individual has been either on drugs, alcohol or in some other type of altered mental status. If you have ever had to fight someone with some type of mental disorder, you know they can have awesome strength and agility. About 7 years ago, we had 4 officers hurt fighting with such an individual. He is normally a nice, compliant guy, but something set him off. With a Taser, he would likely have been subdued quickly without injury.
Tasers are great tool, but like ANY tool, without proper training and discipline, it can be misused. In those cases, remove it from the individual toolbox, not all toolboxes. We haven’t banned hammers because some nut killed his family with one, right?

Gandhi's Fist   July 28th, 2009 - 3:29 pm

Well said Guido! Trouble is, libs live in a fantasy world of unicorns and butterflies, where criminals who do what ever you tell them to do and the rivers run with chocolate. They just don’t get that the taser are safe alternatives to greater–perhaps deadly–force.
