That goes without saying though, Jim.

The public seems deliriously oblivious that the monsoon of cash is their own tax money. They’re way out of control in Washington.

So, if you take the cash for your clunker, it means you are taking on new debt, right? The government borrows the $4500 from the Chinese, and you borrow rest from a bank. Sounds great, right? What’s going to happen if you lose your job, because Obama’s regulatory and tax policies drive manufacturing overseas? Will you be able to afford that new car if Obama’s energy plan adds another $1500 to your utility bills? When the inflation from all this borrowing and spending starts, will you be able to afford food and shelter, on top of your new car payments and higher utility bills? Money doesn’t grow on trees, no matter what the Obama people are telling you, and when the check comes for all this spending, things are going to be ugly.

And what we often forget with these fabricated programs is that both the taxpayer-extracted giveaway money AND the money consumers spent on those cars will be money that will NEVER be spent elsewhere on other products. Whether those funds are cannibalized from purchases that would have been made on television sets, computers, recreational vehicles, a new roof or furnace, or new shoes for the kids, will never be known. But the JOBS that are lost as these funds are reallocated by government edict from one sector to another are a certainty. And all those administrative costs for those programs are just wasted and unproductive money, too. It gradually, but inevitably, saps the vitality from the economy, causing more and more lost jobs and economic stagnation!

I’d like to see a break down on who is buying these cars right now. How many are state of federal employees vs: civilians? Why would anyone go further into debt right now unless they’re sure Obamanomics isn’t going to cut their throat? If it’s people who can afford them great but they would have bought sooner or later anyway.

Man, the Republicans will not miss ONE opportunity to b i tch and moan. Why isn’t this party being ran by grown ups? Too many babies and no men.

If you guys want to win elections in the future I suggest you regain some respect for yourselves so then others may begin to respect you. Right now it’s the Republicans who look stupid.

And everyone who isn’t a zealot knows that.

GREAT POINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I see you have read Hazlitt and understand the “Broken Window Theory” perfectly!

muggins   August 2nd, 2009 - 1:54 pm

What surprises me most is that the cash for clunkers offer didn’t only go for vehicles purchased from the new Gu’vment Motors.

Woody   August 2nd, 2009 - 7:56 pm

FED UP, is right. Anyone who has read Henry Hazlitt’s work knows the stupidity of these government programs. Socialists are so short-sighted!

Hudson Hornet   August 3rd, 2009 - 5:54 pm

On the cash for clunkers, I’ll bet right now there are solid Democrats out there who would give you $9,000, double your money, if you could bring in a clapped out, beat up Obama.

Charlene   August 8th, 2009 - 3:28 pm

HAIL DeMint!! Finally someone with a backbone to criticize the most stupid program out there. Obama’s term keeps getting stranger by the day.
