"Here's why tort reform is not in the bill: when you go to pass a really enormous bill like that, the more stuff you put in it the more enemies you make."

For fear that their own best friends, the trial lawyers, might be upset, dems decided it was better to piiss off the taxpayers, the doctors and the patients. But of course, not their bloodsucking friends. Dems dont want to fix things, they want to control things.

kmichaels   August 27th, 2009 - 10:43 am

Dean is such a pathetic fduck.

tom   August 27th, 2009 - 10:45 am

…..I used to live in Alexandria. Jim Moran has an ear made of sheet tin……how could he bring howard the duck and not start World War 3……

kmichaels   August 27th, 2009 - 10:48 am

The real solution to health care

1) Less government
2) Tort reform
3) Cross state competition (dems disallow cross state competition right now, even though they know that it hurts the public, but it helps their friends)
4) Deport illegal aliens ASAP (and do more to keep them out)
5) Less politics in approving drugs
6) Group rates for everyone
7) Get rid of pre-existing clauses in insurance figuring out some way to spread the costs so that one insurance company does not take the bulk of loss

Corrupt cowards. America IS under attack – wake up those around you who are still asleep.

OH Those Darn SISSY DEMS   August 27th, 2009 - 10:57 am

They could not fight their way out of a wet paper bag if their life depended on it!

Let’s send them PACKIN in 2010!

joe   August 27th, 2009 - 12:03 pm

Dean Translation: The trail lawyers lobby is our main source of cash, no way can we kill the golden goose for them and thus us. How do you think Michelle (Obama) pays for those $500 sneakers or the $50K a week vacation rental home, it is because she is looking out for the stupid little people and we don’t want to get the stupid little people mad.

Notasheeple   August 27th, 2009 - 12:05 pm

Funny how you have to show an I.D. to ask a question but not to vote….Go figure…
The politicians are exposing who they really are and “We The People” are realzing what a bunch of bums they are. The fact they are trying to shove Socialism/fascisim down our throats will have huge consequences for them in 2010 & 2012….We need to fight their Fascist agenda at every step…. Cap/Trade, Healthcare, Civilian-Army Corp, Assault on freedom of speech, and the list goes on…..

At least we should give credit to the man for his apologies at the end. That was graceful.

So now are the right wingnut loonies going to get all we weed up that there is not “enough” reform in the health care act! :D

Aaron   August 27th, 2009 - 12:55 pm

Tort reform is the simplest, quickest way to bring down health care costs. Texas has proved it. That one measure would not cost the taxpayer one single dime. Doctors have poured into the state of Texas because of that measure, costs have come down, standards of care have went up, access to care has gone up. There is a whole list of measures like that that could be enacted right now that wouldn’t cost a penny, such as portability of insurance, quicker drugs to market and reductions of mandates on what insurance plans have to offer (meaning giving a pick and choose plan). Why not try those first before starting a social program that can never be reversed?

Scott   August 27th, 2009 - 1:01 pm

Republicans should quickly author the Jim Moran voter ID check for the next election. I’m sure Moran would vote against it.

Democrats want to take health care away from our elderly citizens rather than risk

the chance of upsetting trial lawyers (ie, losing their campaign contributions).

I thought everyone had to have some “skin in the game”. Oh wait, not trial lawyers, they’re the referees.

If the government can regulate how much a doctor can make, and that’s what they’ll be doing through single payer”, then trial lawyers should be regulated how much they can personally make for a case.

Vince-from-Scamwow   August 27th, 2009 - 5:10 pm

So let me get this straight, Dean is afraid of the trial lawyers, which make up .00001% of the population, but he is not afraid to p*ss-off the 180,000,000 conservative voters who form the tax base for this country?
Idiot.

Tony From NJ   August 27th, 2009 - 5:43 pm

Lets see, Dean stands up and is not from VA, but will talk down to the good people of that state. Then he bows down the the lawyers… I hope you people wake up and see where they stand. IT’s not for you or me.

kmichaels   August 27th, 2009 - 5:51 pm

First off Larse, ignorant putz, we dont wet ourselves. That would be your idiot kid president, Dean, and you. You seem the type. After all, isn’t that your comrade that just said he was afraid of Lawyers? My gosh, the democrats are afraid of lawyers of all things. But I digress. TRANSLATION: It’s easier to cr@p on all you little people than it is to fight lawyers. How disgusting. How spineless.

Ryder   August 27th, 2009 - 9:55 pm

It is UNBELIEVEABLE to me that politicians are STILL NOT GETTING THE MESSAGE.

It’s the ones that are standing AGAINST the bill that are the genuine, grassroots Americans, with legitimate concerns… while it is the “supporters” that are manufactured by the government… bussed in and handed identical pre-printed signs. Those are not true Americans with a concern… they are bought and paid for, attending as part of an organized effort to silence, dillute, and crowd out the groundswell that opposes this marxist agenda.

Billy-Mays-From-The-Grave   August 27th, 2009 - 10:10 pm

Send all the lawyers up to me and I’ll oxy-clean them and send them down to keep Teddy & MoonWalk company. By the way, Mary Jo says hi!

dee   August 28th, 2009 - 11:30 am

The real reason is because the vast majority of the dip sticks in DC ARE lawyers!!!

Joe   August 28th, 2009 - 3:14 pm

Wanna see the pols get really nervous?? Ask them to put tort reform and term limits to public vote. How can Washington possibly fix this when they can’t get the things that are on their plate sorted out. The SEC was built to oversee Wall Street, there’s some well spent money eh?? But let’s trust them to get this right. This is less about Obama and more about the “old guard” in DC, while I did not vote for him and still wouldn’t I do believe that he has good intentions but will not get anywhere while the old pols are still lining their pockets. I live in NYC where we have the stellar Charles Rangel presiding over tax law and the breaking it??? And sadly we as Americans are not quite outraged enough to push back rather we follow along like sheep. I lived overseas for a number of years in countries where someone had the same right to sue you in court but if you were found innocent they had to cover your costs. Think about how that one little move would change things on a broad scale here.

Stephen   August 31st, 2009 - 12:00 am

Dean, should fear public backlash in 2010 mid-term more than lawyers…. Very short sighted

[...] You know, this admission may have justified the entire town hall thing, right there: [...]
