Obama is using these individuals for his own agenda.
Obama does not have a clue to what is going on around the world.
I am a black man who thinks Obama is a racist and he is playing the white race.
I hope one day he is exposed even further..I am sick of this guy giving people of color bad name…
He is an elite who went to private schools, top notch colleges and still not happy.
What is wrong with America today? Where did my country go? Obama does not act like a president..

Jill   July 30th, 2009 - 8:31 pm

Not sure what the point of Crowley meeting with Obama and Gates was when neither man apologized to him for calling him stupid and racist. I wouldn’t show up for a drink with either man when they didn’t have the balls to apologize first.

Roger Weber   July 30th, 2009 - 8:32 pm

Fed up with Obama? Check out this song at: http://www.myspace.com/rogerweber

You’ll feel better.

White house waiter   July 30th, 2009 - 8:33 pm

I was present. Gates kept talking about the great inventions and accomplishments of blacks. He said blacks made peanut butter, the pyramids, the Roman aqueducts, the steam engine, Rock and Roll, and all these things were stolen by white boys. He said Ghengis Kahn and Napoleon were negroes, as were Cleoppatra, Hitler, and Attila the Hun.He kept calling the waiter boy. A good time was had by all.

Veritas   July 30th, 2009 - 8:33 pm

I like this guy. He looks and sounds like a no nonsense kind of person.

Albert   July 30th, 2009 - 8:33 pm

I think I like Obama to be on TV more often. At first it made me sick then now I think he exposes his weakness every time he appears on TV. He is always making news and soon people will grow weary of him. He is worse than Jimmy Carter far left than Hugo Chavez..

Eileen for Freedom/Liberty   July 30th, 2009 - 8:34 pm

America…so let us lay this all out!
====================================

1. First we have a black professional who blew a top when confronted by a white police officer who was just doing his duty in making sure that a house was not broken into.

In that process the owner/renter became obnoxious yelling out racist remarks at the white police officer.

The white police officer tries to settle him down to no avail and has to take him in for unruly conduct to an officer.
=============================

2. Then we have the leader of our nation…who gets before a television camera and while looking at the camera and without knowing any facts in the situation but just knowing that his BFF black friend was involved with a “white” police officer…and he says something completely degrading to the Presidential position he occupies. A position whereby he was elected to represent and protect “all” Americans…not just black ones.

He jumped back into his racist skin and spoke out of turn and lambasted an entire police force that is being paid to “enforce” the laws of our great nation and said that they acted “stupidly”!

So who needs to apologize here?
===================================

The two black racists are the ones that jumped to conclusions and went off…way off…and used racist and demeaning remarks about police officers in general.

The white police officer…was only doing his job!

But, again, America the two black racists are above giving an apology for their racism…that is why racism still exists within the black community because of poor examples and enablers like this!
==============================

A teaching moment? Hardly…more like a bad example of being egotistical in thinking you are a victim, yet again, and above apologizing for being wrong and being racist!

Just another day in the life of black America…the victims of police brutality!

Not in all cases America…and specifically not in this one!

conservativeandproud   July 30th, 2009 - 8:37 pm

Blue Moon? Really? Are u a girlie-girl or what.

Dude you did NOTHING wrong! You have NOTHING to apologize for! You don’t need any discussions with anybody. Stop being a tool! Grow a pair!

DCortez   July 30th, 2009 - 8:40 pm

Pointless waste of time Officer Crowley.

Captain Steve   July 30th, 2009 - 8:41 pm

sorry off topic, but. . .

To all the people that say Obama is legitimate, I would like to know if your decision was based on faith or facts? If it’s faith, I’m not persuaded. If it’s based on facts, show them to the world so we can evaluate them for ourselves!

If Obama has a long-form, why doesn’t he show it? If he doesn’t have one, why not? People that hide things, usually have something to hide. He works for us. We have a right to know! We have a right to demand it!!!!!!!!!!!! We need to send a message to Obama and to EVERY OTHER POTENTIAL VIOLATOR OF OUR RULE OF LAW!!!!!!!!!!!

OBAMA, STOP HIDING. SHOW US THE LONG FORM BIRTH CERTIFICATE!!!!!

Norm   July 30th, 2009 - 8:41 pm

They did a scumy thing to Crowley by ganging up on him. But since he’s smarter than they are by large factor, they actually needed 3 to 1 just to stay even.

Jamal   July 30th, 2009 - 8:41 pm

I would not agree to meet with those two racist. Obama Hates White people!

shaw   July 30th, 2009 - 8:42 pm

I agree, Jill. When Sgt. Crowley cited in his report that Ms. Whalen stated she had seen “two black men with backpacks”, when she apparently didn’t according to the 911 tapes. And, when Crowley stated that Prof Gates followed him out to the sidewalk when a photo was snapped depicting Gates in handcuffs on his porch being led out from his home, its apparent something’s not right in regard to recalling what happened.

It is unsettling to also see anyone charged with disorderly conduct in his own castle / home after the initial problem of the reported break in was resolved, as I’m sure all freedom loving Americans are somewhat concerned as well.

Obama said:

“I don’t know all the facts but that the Cambridge Police acted stupidly.”

Enough Said!

Obama is an IDIOT!   July 30th, 2009 - 8:44 pm

He BullShi!!ted the people for a year with his smooth rhetoric, now he opens his mouth and shows the world what a FOOL he really is!

Joe   July 30th, 2009 - 8:45 pm

^^ The point of the “meeting” was damage control for the One.

Great level of intelligence in the comments here. Must be another link from Drudge. Yep.

Rob   July 30th, 2009 - 8:49 pm

What a sad thing. He seems to have completely sold himself out, not by apologizing to Gates but allowing him to attack him on a professional and personal level and then agreeing to meet with him like this. He is treating Gates with more respect than he deserves.

S-bags in the W-House   July 30th, 2009 - 8:49 pm

I think Crowley has way too much class to hang with those two affirmative action racist buttlogs and the palefaced buffoon. He’s the only one that comes across as sincere. The chumps didn’t even drink their beer.

Truthhurtz   July 30th, 2009 - 8:50 pm

I like the fact Idiots are calling OBAMA racist. When He called the officers involved stupid. This included a black officer, a Latino and two white guys. Man Americans can be so GULLIBLE.

Liz_Ross   July 30th, 2009 - 8:50 pm

Wow. This guy has a great deal of class and he is a credit to officers like him across this country. We and his friends, family and colleagues should be very proud of him.

Perry   July 30th, 2009 - 8:51 pm

In my opinion Gates and Crowley acted “stupidly”.

BJC   July 30th, 2009 - 8:54 pm

I can only think about what would have happened if this would have happened to another “White Male” cop that hadn’t had race profiling experience and tried to save a black man with CPR. Obama and Gates thought they had themselves “A TYPICAL WHITE MALE” and wanted to pounce on it. If it would have been another “TYPICAL WHITE MALE” he would have already been fired for no reason.

Roger Weber, I have put your song all over the Politico site. I love it.

la   July 30th, 2009 - 8:54 pm

The point was very simple…get Obama off the hook and “equalize” the wrongdoing between Gates and Crowley. Obama saying that the two “listened to each other” implied that Crowley needed instruction of some kind.

Just as with Rev Wright, Obama can’t bring himself to acknowlege that anyone is wrong or “stupid” except 1) Whites 2) Police 3)America 4)Bush. He thinks that he’s put this behind him, but I hope the “stupid” video clip resurfaces many times during election season.

Tater   July 30th, 2009 - 8:56 pm

Did anyonr thing one of the two Black snobs would ever in a million years say they did or think they did something wrong? Not Me, I know snobs and their all the same. Crap don’t sink out of their rear ends.

Truthhurtz   July 30th, 2009 - 9:01 pm

I hope a cop carts you all to jail the next time you break into your own house.

Grey Stone   July 30th, 2009 - 9:04 pm

The fact remains. Had a black officer been first on scene at the professor’s home, the professor would never had treated that officer with such hatred as he did the white officer. Gates is guilty of racial profiling and all the haters who trashed the police officer, the 911 caller and called the black officer an uncle tom are equally guilty of racial profiling and race baiting.

Tater   July 30th, 2009 - 9:05 pm

Obama, Sharpton and Jackson are the three main reasons black racist act the way they do. I don’t know who the white racist are anymore and I’m black. Who are they? Rush? Beck? Larua? Mark? I never hear them say what race anyone it unless they are talking about what someone has already said. Dem’s are the racist and hate the blacks and the black Dem’s hate the white ones. They all hate the Gays. Dem’s live on hate. Without hate most wouldn’t have a job.

I want to hear Gates speak.

Please, Gates…open your mouth again. Please!!

Rupert   July 30th, 2009 - 9:09 pm

It’s quite racist of Obama to think he can put one over on an Irish cop by plying him with alcohol. Obama is playing to the stereotype! If they served watermelon or fried chicken, that would be obvious, but serving beer to an Irishman is OK.

This Administration has the most double standards of any in recent memory.

Rupert   July 30th, 2009 - 9:11 pm

Every cop from now on has to know that if he does his job there is a good chance that Obama will call him stupid.

ThinkingMom2   July 30th, 2009 - 9:13 pm

I’m disappointed to see an honorable police officer used for a photo op by people who insulted him and his mother, but he agreed to it.

flattoppiken   July 30th, 2009 - 9:13 pm

Crowley and the Cambridge Police Department are idiots. This whole production was set up to demonstrate
Obama’s coaching ability. They’re all idiots!

Tim   July 30th, 2009 - 9:15 pm

So, who paid for Crowley and Gates to come down to DC for a beer to participate in this sad excuse for a photo op to further insult the nation’s collective intelligence? If any federal tax dollars were spent…talk about insult added to injury!!

Dr. of African studies   July 30th, 2009 - 9:16 pm

I have a doctorate in Africa American Studies at an Ivy League College, and I am appalls at the reaction from the readers here at this website. A black man cant even relax after long jorneys in foreign lands without being accosted. Rev.Wright is correct, the chickens are coming home to roost for the gentrified white people of America. Thank goodness for fine African Americans like Dr.Gates, and President Obama for leading us out of bondage.

David Adams   July 30th, 2009 - 9:24 pm

Sgt. Crowley came across as a very well-spoken individual who is used to handling questions from an audience – even if it’s filled with reporters.
His answers were concise and showed he can think on his feet. he is a fine example of a sincere police officer.

Kramer   July 30th, 2009 - 9:25 pm

Why have a beer with two entrenched racists? After all the years attending a racist church what could Crowley possibly say to change Obama?

Hillary   July 30th, 2009 - 9:29 pm

Kelly King for President.
She is a Cambridge police officer who voted for Barack and will not do so again.
King stated that “he (Obama) should have recused himself and not spoken until he had the facts” about the arrest of Professor “Do you know who I am?” Gates.

Barry went to Harvard Law School? Kelly King sounds like she has more common sense than the president.
Guess they don’t teach that at Harvard.

Thank you, Kelly. No chip on that shoulder. You spoke “truth to power”.

flattoppiken   July 30th, 2009 - 9:35 pm

David Adams – Why was Crowley there? WHY? Why would his idiot behind go to DC and sit at a table with two
black racists and drink a beer? What would make a sensible man do such a thing. He is eating this up and feeding his arrogant
ego. He demonstrated what is wrong with the American people; no character, no back bone, no sense of what is
right and wrong. Crowley is a fool!!!!!!

Truthhurtz   July 30th, 2009 - 9:38 pm

Using the term racist..for this is a travesty. Its an insult to those who have lost their lives fighting for equality—both black and white. People sacrificed their lives to give others the right to vote, and own property. Using the term to describe an event of this lesser magnitude is beyond idiotic.

Obama said the arresting officers acted stupidly. Like I said..there were two white cops, a black and a latino. He then apologized to the entire police department. yet when it comes down to it– Some Americans love a good white vs black mud wrestle. I’ll leave you to your complaining and whining.

johnny maro   July 30th, 2009 - 9:42 pm

This is such a simple issue. Why is it getting so much exposure? I think perhaps to distract us from the pending failure of healthcare reform. It was an integral part of healthcare reform, but it has been dropped from the package. Where is the media? They are showing us a silent film about four guys drinking! Beer Summit is a clever name, but the headline should read something more like this:

“No Public Option: American Media Creates National Diversion as Healthcare Deforms”

DLB Texas   July 30th, 2009 - 9:44 pm

I scanned the comments and it saddens me how many contain racial slurs. Is it not possible to comment without that? If a Martian was visiting earth and wanted to know about the United States, he would discover that racism really is alive and well here. It can’t die as long as people, including WHITE people, harbor such hatred in their hearts. You can legislate and control behavior, but in the writings on this blog, it is clear that it is not only the President and the Professor, but Eileen with “…racism still exists within the black community because of poor examples and enablers like this”(and what about the “White” community???); Jamal with ” …Obama Hates White people!” (forgetting that Obama is also White); S-Bags with “”affirmative action racist buttlogs” ……and finally Rotney with ”

A so called “Dr.” writes the below with several grammatical mistakes on each line:

I have a doctorate in Africa American Studies at an Ivy League College, and I am appalls at the reaction from the readers here at this website. A black man cant even relax after long jorneys in foreign lands without being accosted. Rev.Wright is correct, the chickens are coming home to roost for the gentrified white people of America. Thank goodness for fine African Americans like Dr.Gates, and President Obama for leading us out of bondage.

Since you either have not yet graduated from high school, had an inferior, segregated education in the 1950s, or for some reason English is your second language, here are some helpful ENGLISH language tips that may help you.

I have a doctorate in Africa American Studies at (FROM) an Ivy League College (do not capitalize college), and I am appalls (ED) at (BY) the reaction (reacationS, plural) from the readers here at this website. A black man cant (can’t)even relax after long jorneys (spelling) in foreign lands without being accosted (spelling). Rev.Wright is correct, (about) the chickens are coming home to roost for the gentrified white people of America. Thank goodness for fine African Americans like (such as, like means not them but people like them)Dr.Gates, and President Obama for leading us out of bondage.

Certain people seemed to have forgotten already that Obama not only called the officers stupid, but then went on a tangent about racial profiling, therefore implying that cops are racist and “it happens all the time”. I think its time to end the black family reunion. Every year it is held in washington dc. If you are black you are invited. What would happen if we held a white family reunion, or a asian family reunion? If everyone wants to get past racial inequality, even though in this case Gates was flat out wrong as was Obama, then national events such as BLACK FAMILY REUNION should be put to a stop. http://www.ncnw.org/events/reunion.htm
Its sept 12-13 in DC this year.

Truth Hurtz   July 30th, 2009 - 10:16 pm

To the comment that Obama and the professor are racist—If one comment makes a man a racist or evil. What do you call those who spouted nothing but black jokes after Michael Jackson died?

To the point– when did we get so sensitive as a nation. People used to say wrong things all the time..they were verbally spanked and we moved on. I fear our nation has become so mamby pamby about everything.

Eileen for Freedom/Liberty   July 30th, 2009 - 10:17 pm

Dear DLB in Texas at 9:44 pm…you know I have always admitted that there are pockets of racism within the white community!

But the white community rose above racism in this last election and voted the first half black man into the White House to run this country…without experience and without credentials.

What do you call that? Do you still think that white Americans are racists?

But what was personified during this last public episode, was blatant…outright in your face racism by a black professional man who is a “teacher” and a black politician who is the “President”!

It was a poor example to all of America what these two highly educated men did under the guise of racism!

It took this country back years…what these two black men did!

By not apologizing to all police officers (both black and white) around this nation…they made a huge mistake and said to all racists in the black community that they were justified in their actions…they were not!

I observe and read more racism from the black community than anywhere else. They want reparations for past slavery that modern America has nothing to do with. They have achieved positions that I could not, and have not, achieved! They had all the opportunities and achieved great success in their own right.

They are in positions of influence over others and yet, here they are, both of them exercising and showing to all of black America it is above them to apologize for their remarks and that they fell, yet again, into the pit of racism and by doing so they are perpetuating racism.

If you cannot see that, you are as blind as they are!

That is what is wrong with black and white in America…the blacks refuse…refuse…to acknowledge that they are responsible for their own actions. They have to stop believing the lies that they are victims, which causes them to continue to be victims.

Their own people…black leaders like this Professor and the President are making them victims, yet again! Black leaders in America have become the new slave owners of black America…and the plantation…is the inner city!

When they didn’t apologize for their racist remarks…they were saying to young black men/women all over this great nation…you will be victimized and don’t apologize…whitey is the man!

Not true, America, not true!

Enough said!

Amy   July 30th, 2009 - 10:21 pm

My vote for Obama was a huge mistake.. He is wrost then GWB.. I thought I’d never say that, but Obama is ruinning our country..

to TruthHurtz1   July 30th, 2009 - 10:25 pm

Gates didn’t just make one comment. His entire career has been based on racism. Just look at his yale application. He more recently was called in as an expert witness in a trial where at the end a judge ruled against him because he said Gates was just wrong (and it was a black judge).

As for Obama, he went to Mr Wright’s church for 20 years. Mr. Wright is a racist. Based on that one statement Obama made on national tv, it showed his true colors. He is like minded as Mr. Wright and Gates.

If you can’t see that then you are blind. You ask how did this nation get so sensitive. How would you feel if you were falsely accused as was that police officer? I bet if you were in his shoes you would expect an apology.

TruthHurtz1   July 30th, 2009 - 10:30 pm

Amy. I have to ask..why do you think that?..Obama passed one economic stimulus bill. GW Bush Passed the first two (Both wall street bail outs in the trillions).

TruthHurtz1   July 30th, 2009 - 10:33 pm

Because if I thought like that, i would have to assume your friends/ workmates or others who have said racist jokes in your presence..would–by implication or association make you racist. And that’s just silly.

The president apologizes on camera. To do it again would feed the right wing media machine–IE Rush Dimbulb and Glen heck.

robert   July 30th, 2009 - 10:33 pm

obama and gates are racists and we shouldn’t have expected an apology from either of them. they are both harvard radical racist elitists. companies should not hire harvard graduates. it graduates racists like obama and professors like gates. harvard is a disgrace.

Larry   July 30th, 2009 - 10:34 pm

Well it appears not to have been a teachable moment because the President obviously did learn a thing. He is s till a racist and an ingrate despite all this country has done to him. Wonder if Sgt Crowley would have like to have gone to Harvard and Columbia for free…I know I would have. Yet despite neither Crowley or myself being treated that well by the country, we still love it. The POTUS…well he is still ashamed of tis great country and can’t seem to be convinced that cops do not exist simply to chase minorities through the streets

All of this is good, Obama looks foolish, his poll numbers are dropping like a lead zeppelin, but dang, this all hacks me off to no end…Here we listened to Obama for a year or two thinking to ourselves..”you know,..for a black guy, he isn’t too bad, he sounds nothing like all these other “black leaders” who are just one trick ponies who scream racism at the drop of a hat, nice for a change to see a black man who isn’t rediculous about making racial accusation at every turn…kinda,…kinda like Colin Powell…”
DOH!!!!! bad example… and there’s the rub, we, black nor white can discuss race without the divide growing deeper and wider..no matter how far we go in life, those things are ingrained in us…and it never gets much better, because we ALWAYS make a distiction in race…black this, black that, black, black, black,….latino, latino, whites, whites, whites ect. and we both believe we’re right, of course race had nothing to do with it vs. race has everything to do with it.oy..and the man we thought was above all that had a press confrence two weeks ago and at the end of it, he pulled off the mask he was wearing and revealed Al Sharpton who said the Cambridge police acted stupidly…I was angry and overjoyed at the same time!!! How dare he say that!!! and then,..He IS SO SCREWED NOW!!!! Let’s just hope this goes on and on till Obama’s poll numbers are down to 13 percent approval rating,…(btw, the poll numbers will never, ever go below 13 percent because….uh..eerr…oh, just read this paragraph from the begining for the explanation for that anomoly…

A cop’s job is to keep the peace…..not to administer punishment. This is what Crowley did when gates started acting crazy. Crowley defused the situation by taking gates into custody and the courts decided no punishment was warranted. Looks like the system worked as designed. If you act like a nut in public during a police investigation you will get arrested. The other option the cop has is to ignore the nut and hope nothing worse happens after he leaves. A cop can’t take that chance.

TruthHurtz1   July 30th, 2009 - 10:40 pm

No this is a teachable moment. It teaches everyone that race issues have not been dealt with. That Gates has allowed perceived and real slights to jade his mind when it comes to authority. And others fall back to their security blankets of racist slurs and condemnations. Fighting fire with fire only leads to more houses being burned down. I expected better behavior from the POTUS, our law enforcement and our educators. Believe me no-one came out of this looking good.

What a surprise. A bunch of white republican folks supporting a white cop vs a black guy. That is NEW. Way to pick a team and stick with it through thick and thin.
I wonder (and maybe you will too if you have a mind with an inch of an opening) how you guys would feel if some cop comes into your house investigating a burglary only to find out that you are in your own house…. then, instead of getting the hell outa there when you are obviously pissed about the police in your house (after they have determined that there is no crime), the cop ARRESTED YOU for being pissed. Maybe you even say a few unfair things (like “you are a racist”…. remember republicans, there are black cops too.) The point is, all you sheep are pissed about this because Drudge and bill o reilly say you should be and not because you’ve exercised any independent thought here. Really, you think he should have got arrested? What if he were white? Still arrested? Sure.

What ever happened to conservatives wanting the state to get out of their business? the cops are “the state” after all. I vote dem in (large) part because I actually want the 4th, 5th, and 6th amendments enforced (admittedly not at issue in this case as Officer Crowly didn’t violate it – but related as it involves police power). Those amendments are the ones that protect all of us from…. the cops. you know, our freedom. From the state. But, all your conservative justices are the ones that allow for all those “exceptions” to your rights…. But, go ahead and believe what you want. I just hope you keep your noses clean.

DaStupidVoteGop   July 30th, 2009 - 10:47 pm

I am speculating that “the teachable” element of this incident is an attempt by Gates and Obama to somehow elevate this incident into a national dialogue of two sides, with each seeing the same incident very differently because of race and perceived racism. I personally think Gates overreacted in the incident, based on what I have heard thus far. Having said that, I think Gates might eventually come to see this as something inside of himself–a Black Man’s fear of police–that he never quite fully admitted to himself. He reacted like a scared child instead of a proud professor. He is probably shocked that he lost control. Who is right and who is wrong? That’s a question for perhaps petty people wanting to keep score. I think Gates knows he overreacted, and he wants other Blacks to see that this fear is inside of them about the police–and sometimes it is very warranted, and sometimes it is not, as in Gates’ case–but I think it is too complicated to really teach something really palpable. I do hope I’m wrong. But, politics also tends to destroy these types of learning moments, rather than encourage them. Okay, you nitwits can fire your cannons at the bow of my ship now. Commence firing.

Obviously you just made that up! Or you may have confused them with the approval numbers for Nancy Pelosi and Congress…and actually THOSE numbers were as low as 12%!!!

So which is it, MESN? Did you lie? Did you make the numbers up? Or were you referring to Pelosi’s approval rating? We will wait for your answer!

Cambridge, Mass., police Sgt. James Crowley spoke after meeting with President Barack Obama and Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr., along with Vice President Joe Biden. Crowley described himself and Gates as “two gentlemen who agreed to disagree” about the confrontation that led to Gates’ arrest.”
——————-
First of all, why was Biden there? Maybe a three against one? I think that Crowley was the gentlemen because he had no reason to apologize and what I can’t believe is that neither Gates nor Obama gave that man an apology. You can see Crowley sitting up straight, a little on the edge of his seat, Obama laid back as if he’s at some picnic. Gates seems to still be angry and Biden looks to be talking as usual.

This is probably one of dumbest things I’ve seen a president and vice president do. If Crowley made the suggestion, I’m sure he meant it as one guy to another, hanging at the local bar kicking one back, not on the WH lawn with the vice president and the national media looking on.

Obama will do anything to get the media’s attention and try to use it as ‘learning experience’ — what b.s. that was too.

To DaStupidVoteGOP   July 30th, 2009 - 11:04 pm

My point exactly. To say racial profiling doesnt exist is ludicrous. But how is that problem addressed. To have an authority figure treat a person like they are guilty when they are innocent creates a lasting emotional scar. Apparently a grown man with Harvard degree reverts to overreaction. But isnt that how the innocent would react. “Hey Ive done nothing wrong” ” Why are you stopping me?” The guilty have no such compunctions.

The police were already convinced their was a crime in progress. And that is in their training. Gates who was frustrated at having lost his keys having to break into his own home–probably felt embarrassed to say the least. Frustrated escalates any situation. Catch anyone on a bad day and you will see the same–Gates should have publicly apologized then gave his side of the story. I once called the police thinking my neighbors house was being broken into–after 2 minutes the police came to my door GUNS drawn–And it took me by surprise. It was all a misunderstanding but it was quashed easily enough. I wish the extreme voices on both sides were on mute–so A real dialogue can take place.

I’m white and live in an ‘up-and-coming’ black neighborhood and I can tell you I have become an angry white woman after 2 years of living here. I cannot believe how racist blacks are toward whites. I could write pages and pages of the crap I’ve had to hear and put up with.

I’ve gotten to this place now where I give it back to them. They’re shocked because most white people try to ignore them, afraid to speak up. I’m not because I’ve had it!

I used to feel sorry for black people, afterall I was conditioned to feel that way by the liberal media, but after the riots in LA and how black people broke into stores to steal and then torch their own neighborhoods, without a care or thought to the store owners who were providing services. Going after any white person who was driving in the wrong place at the wrong time… This anger that that black people always blame on racism is not acceptable to me. Blaming all your problems on white people is not acceptable to me!

I learned that people like the Clintons, Jesse Jackson, Ted Kennedy, Charlie Rangel, et.al., just use the race card to get the black votes and money out of big business. They stoke the fire with the help of the liberal media–just like Obama did.

I’m not buying it anymore. You try to call me a racist and I’ll hold that mirror up to reflect right back at you.

The “Profiling” scam is a trumped up issuee propagated by the ACLU. They claim that based on population
demographics, a larger percentage of minorities are “stopped” by police, ie, “stereotyped” or “profiled.”
However, suspects are not investigated as a percentage of the population, but are “stopped” on the basis
of victim or witness complaints in regard to a crime. From Jan. of 2009, NYC statistics show that African
Americans represented 68% of those arrested for crimes even though they made up only 24% of the population.
The fact that investigators have been told that the “perp” was a young black man in a red tee shirt, doesn’t
send them looking for, and stopping an “appropriate” number of old ladies in baboushkas, one-legged pirates,
or Asians. When the press and the Sharptonite race mongers stops pimping for the lefty ideologues, maybe an
intelligent examination of problems can begin.

Gates and Obama have made their entire carreers about race, with endless race baiting and reliance on white guilt for advancement and admisssion.

Gates wrote in his application to Yale, “I once again find Whitey in charge of my destiny…”, and this managed to ensure he got into the school. Obama as editor of the Harvard law review? What a joke, the guy never wrote a single article. The job he described in his book where he is a big shot wall st wheeler, dealear? Research states that the most valuable person in a child’s life is the same-gender parent. Young boys growing up without a father is a terrible formula. Although rarer, young girls growing up without a mother is also equally terrible. The same-gendered kid really builds his or her identity strongly on the parent that is his or her same gender. That’s not a black or white thing. That is basic research that represents all people, regardless of race. So, yes, a two-parent family is vital. Research proves it.

He doubled the Bush deficit of 8 years in just six months. He turned a narrow economic problem in the financial industry into a need to save rats in northern California.

He’s foisted the biggest budget in history on us, beyond the so called stiumulus, he’s pushing the total destruction of our healthcare system, including virtual “Soilant Green” measures.

He wants to make gas 10 bucks a gallon, increase our electric bills and make us buy crud cars that we don’t want.

Pay attention, it’s all bad. But KatieKouric, ShakeyLeg Matthews, and Keith Olbamaman won’t tell you the truth… just listen to their Icon, Dan Rather… he want government to step in and “save” the news media because the news media is the watchdog over the government – IQ = 73 at best.

Boobama is hoping to appear unbiased and conciliatory but we all seen his true face! He might as well be a Black Panther? Should have apologized a couple days ago to Sgt. Crowley as well as all the policemen around the nation for his remark about profiling! The only reason blacks and hispanics are getting stopped is because they are out there slangin the drugs and doing the crime! The statistics don’t lie! I love how the beLeft has artificially skewed those statistics by including hispanics with whites! If you take the statistics and separate them you see how blacks and hispanics are doing 90%+ of the violent crime in this nation!

Total destruction of healthcare? Oh boy, we are the only industrial nation without universal health care coverage. We pay twice as much for it and tens of millions of us don’t have it.

Why haven’t the Republicans stopped illegal immigration? Because this is all about money. I imagine the British bankers who still run this country love it when Irishmen like Hannity and O’Reilly do their dirty work for them… and guess what? The British bankers and the other wealthy internationals don’t want you to have public health care at their expense. So, they want you to continue with this distraction.

Hey DLB Texas: According to some new age freaks, green martians are racist against grey aliens and reptilians, so who cares what they think about the US where whites are probably the least racist in the world.

It’s the blacks who are generally racist. Whites risk their lives in minutes by even accidentally driving into a mostly black area of a large city (it’s happened to me a few times). Try living in Hawaii (not really part of the USA–or other Polynesian Islands) as a white person. Try living in Africa as a white person. Not too many blacks in Mexico. Not too many blacks in Russia or China. As Michael Medved said, ‘Tolerance in the US is because of Christianity, not in spite of it.” Obama belong 20 years to a cult called black liberation theology which is racist against whites and pushes a stealth or bloody revolution. True Christianity transcends race.

Biden probably wanted to apologize but he didn’t want to get the demonic evil eye and bizarre threats from control-freak Obama.

Lynda   July 31st, 2009 - 1:49 am

Can we stick to the facts here?

The lady who called 911 did NOT say the intruders were black. She stated the facts about their actions: two men are breaking down the door of someone who’s out of town. (If my home were being broken into, I’d want someone to call the police.) The caller never said they were black.

The cops arrived and had NO idea who lived there. So they made a reasonable request: please show some I.D. so we can be assured you’re not burglars. They would have asked the SAME thing if the putative intruders were WHITE. Gates should have been happy to comply! The police were trying to protect Gates’ house for him!

Next, Crowley shows his bitter black racist worldview by adopting a rude, belligerent attitude toward the cops. Despite repeated requests, Gates refuses to show I.D., leaving the cops wondering if he’s an intruder since he was breaking through a door. Gates gets ugly and eventually, the cops arrest him NOT for breaking & entering, but for disorderly conduct.

Then, the president of the United States, who says race should not matter in any way, hears that a friend of his who’s black has been arrested at his own front door. Without waiting to hear the facts and make a thoughtful analysis of the facts, Obama jumps to conclusions based on RACE. In front of the entire free world, the president insults the police force, who were risking their lives to protect the private property of people like…Gates.

The second officer on the scene, also an African-American, defends the white officer and says he acted properly.

Other witnesses on the scene back up the white officer’s version of events.

In other words, both Gates and Pres. Obama are just plain wrong.

Obama gets in front of the TV cameras again but cannot cough up an apology, which is so clearly due. He ralphs out a Clintonesque phrase, saying he “could have calibrated those words differently.”

Translation: I acted stupidly! But Obama doesn’t have the balls to be a stand-up guy and say “I was wrong, I shouldn’t have spoken about it until I had all the facts. Please forgive me for insulting the police.”

Obama invites everyone for a beer, thus making himself look like Mr. Concilation and “just one of the guys,” even though his home in Chicago is a multi-million dollar mansion and he graduated from Harvard.

The beers are poured but STILL no apology is forthcoming. What a waste of Crowley’s time.

I agree with someone above who wrote:
>>>>Gates is a race hustler, nothing more, just like Jackson and Sharpton.
These charlatans don’t hate racism, they thrive on it. They love it.
It is their bread and butter. They see racism where it does not exist

White Avenger   July 31st, 2009 - 2:01 am

Here’s a comment for all the angry folks who accuse Obama of being a racist just because he sided with the White Police leaders.

When Obama said the multi racial group of officers acted stupidly, he was simply agreeing with those officer’s superiors who felt it was a stupid reason to arrest someone. That’s why they released Gates and dropped the charges.
I am a supporter of the police. They are here to protect us, and I don’t think they let real law breakers go free.

But not one person is angry at the police decision makers for making that decison. In fact, you guys are desperately avoiding that subject…praying that noone will notice. Is it because those decision makers are White, and this was actually a disagreement between a White officer and his White superiors?

jggrimm   July 31st, 2009 - 2:03 am

A lot of people, at the end of a hard day or week, sit down and have a few beers and talk things out. Then, they get in their car, start to drive home, get pulled over, and are arrested for driving under the influence. I hope that this de facto summit on race relations can evolve into a national referendum on the value of having a few beers, talking things over, and being able to drive home without the fear of arrest, incarceration, and financial ruin. Unwittingly, the President has now set the example. Have a big problem? Have a beer. Have two. Now, if we can just repeal some of the DUI standards, we’ll all be better off. Cheers, Barack.

That is what it is about, not racism, but directing resources for black people–that’s their only goal.

If I was this cop I would be super ticked off because he could have very easily lost his job if the smallest thing went different. Such as if the person who initially made the 911 call said they were black men breaking in, or the cop talked back to Gates after Gates said “your Mamma”. The press would have pounced right on that and made it a racial issue even though it wasn`t and the political pressure would have come down on his bosses and they in turn would have forced him to retire.

FormerPoliceSgt   July 31st, 2009 - 5:29 am

As a former (city) law enforcement officer, especially having been a law enforcement command officer, I consider it absolutely irresponsible and unprofessional that Sgt. Crowley, and/or any of his superiors, city and department, allowed the meeting with Obama and Gates to occur. It is an everyday occurrence that law enforcement officers across this nation are forced or required to arrest someone for the very same reasons that Sgt. Crowley was forced …and required… to do when he arrested Gates.

I say “forced,” because although a police officer might prefer not to arrest if he or she had an authorized choice, it is a common occurrence that police officers are forced to arrest someone in order not to set a (known) precedent; that if you resist enough, shout enough, threaten enough, and verbally abuse the officer enough, the officer will eventually just walk away. Not only would the law enforcement in the jurisdiction be compromised, but so would the authority of all law enforcement officers in that jurisdiction.

Additionally, police officers are commonly “forced” to arrest for minor violations in order to protect their jobs and livelihood. If an officer foresees that a citizen might file a complaint or sue, and the officer’s best defense is the unlawful actions of the plaintiff, I can guarantee you that the police department superiors and the officials of the governing body (city, county, state, etc.) will beat the plaintiff’s attorney in asking; “If you say the defendant did what you are now saying he/she did, then why didn’t you arrest him/her?”

I say “required,” because certain laws and/or certain departmental regulations deny the police officer the discretion to not arrest. As an example; some police agencies absolutely forbid an officer to give a verbal or written warning for a traffic violation, regardless how minor the violation. If the officer stops a vehicle, the officer is required to issue a citation for a violation.

By Sgt. Crowley personally meeting with Gates and Obama, via the coercing request of the President of the United States in an attempt to establish some type of Presidential “peace accord” over a local and minor law enforcement matter, is something that I would have laughed about and declared to be impossible had someone suggested the possibility before it became a reality.

What Sgt. Crowley has done by attending the meeting, is to have now established a perception, a belief, by many citizens across this nation, especially if the person is a minority, that if a they are arrested, or are about to be arrested, and they raise enough h-ll and accuse the officer(s) of racism and/or profiling, the President of the United States will intervene and the charge(s) will be dismissed.

President Obama, Gates, and Sgt. Crowley have (now) added just one more brick in the wall that all police agencies and their officers run against everyday that they try to do what the citizens expect them to do; their job.

The situation involving the arrest of Gates was a local police matter. Obama stepped way outside of his authority and the job for which he was elected to do. In doing so, Obama created a national calamity and set in stone the accusations by Gates that Sgt. Crowley is a racist and that Sgt. Crowley’s arrest of Gates was act racism. Hence, in the future all police officers that arrest a minority for a minor violation is a racist and their arrest will be for no reason but an act of racism y the officer(s). I would not be surprised if non-minorities begin to accuse minority police officers of the same.

Sgt. Crowley said he would not apologize for his official actions because he did nothing wrong. I have news for him. When he agreed to attend the “meeting,” and did attend, he has apologized in a quasi manner.

Crowley has also agreed to meet/talk with Gates in the future. If Crowley would study some of the writings of Gates, and read some of the comments Gates has made in the past, Crowley might just realize that his “whiteness” is an obstacle to Gates. All Crowley will be accomplishing is reemphasizing a (quasi) apology to Gates and implying to all citizens that his arresting Gates was inappropriate, and that any police officer that arrests any person for the same minor charge, especially if the arrested person is a minority, will be guilty of the same misconduct.

Yale application:

““As always, whitey now sits in judgment of me, preparing to cast my fate.” – Henry Gates

The primary culprit in this matter became President Obama. I am very concerned that he will be as reckless in (valid) national and foreign matters.

Despicable, that Gates and Obama don’t realize what they did wrong — blasting police for being racists, and stupid, and not realizing that they SHOULD apologize to him face-to-face. These guys (Gates and Obama) look for racism everywhere, and always assume the worst even when faced with facts that contradict their assumptions. Sad, very sad. The worst part is that it’s a pattern for Obama. He doesn’t realize how he and Pelosi are ruining our economy’s chances for recovery. Every action they take and propose is the OPPOSITE of what our private sector capitalist economy needs to get vitalized, re-invigorated, and free from the federal govt mandates, taxes, and restrictions (can’t even drill our own oil where most of it is!). Sad state of affairs.

JPFO   July 31st, 2009 - 7:28 am

I believe the purpose of the invitations to Crowley and Gates to a beer at the White House was intended to make Crowley appear a racist. How? I believe it was Obama’s hope that Crowley would decline. Then, we’d have a tidy little photo-op with Obama and Gates, post libation, lamenting Crowley’s decision to not join them, laced with racialist innuendo. After all, it was only a beer, right? This white man couldn’t even sit down with them for a beer, for goodness sake!

Crowley did the gutsy and right thing to attend. He, or the people advising him, saw several moves ahead. That he didn’t apologize for doing his job was also the gutsy and right thing to do. Others of higher pay grade who have been summoned to Obama’s White House after offending his sensibilities can’t say the same thing; Congressional Budget Office chief Douglas Elmendorf, for example.

dianeremarx   July 31st, 2009 - 7:29 am

Obama can’t apologize but wants to call this a ‘teaching moment.’ First of all, Obama stole that from Rush Limbaugh whom Obama likes to bash in the liberal media. Secondly, what ‘teaching moment’ was there? That a president and a Harvard professor can cry racism and when they’re wrong, they don’t have to apologize to anyone. Not the cop they accused of racism, not the 911 woman caller who has had death threats, and not the cops or white people. That, folks, is the only ‘teaching moment’ from this whole thing

And the other thing, when does our liberal politicians in Congress get up in arms and want to do anything when there is racism directed towards a white person? NEVER! But they were ready to do something about this when they didn’t even have the facts. And, what were they going to do about this Gates things when they thought there was policeman who was a racist towards Obama’s close radical friend Gates?

This whole thing was an embarrassment for Obama and Gates because now it is obvious to many people what Obama is going to play the race card any chance he gets.

*545 People*
By Charlie Reese —
Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.
Have you ever wondered why, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, we have deficits?
Have you ever wondered why, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, we have inflation and high taxes?
You and I don’t propose a federal budget. The president does.
You and I don’t have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.
You and I don’t write the tax code, Congress does.
You and I don’t set fiscal policy, Congress does.
You and I don’t control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.
One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices — 545 human beings out of the 300 million — are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.
I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.
I exclu ded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don’t care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator’s responsibility to determine how he votes.
Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.
What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits. The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.
The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.
It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million can not replace 545 people who stand convicted — by present facts — of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can’t think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.
If the tax code is unfair, it’s because they want it unfair.
If the budget is in the red, it’s because they want it in the red.
If the Marines are in IRAQ , it’s because they want them in IRAQ .
There are no insoluble government problems.
Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like “the economy,” “inflation,” or “politics” that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.
Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.
They, and they alone, have the power.
They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses — provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees. We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

Thanks for the very well written and reasoned summery of this whole incident. I have to admit, I personally find the above statement somewhat chilling, that Police officer should be forced to go against his conscience is very disturbing, and further proof that we now live in a quasi-dictatorship.

Truthhurtz,
Where did you ever get the idea that, “I could have calibrated my words more carefully” equates to an apology? You are saying that our racist president apologized but I always thought the word “sorry” was part of an apology. ‘10 and ‘12 cannot come quickly enough!

Don’t expect President Obama to apologize to anyone except our enemies.
There are three reasons a black man was elected President of the United States
1- George Bush.
2- Hilary Clinton.
3- And he spent 900 million bad mouthing the US= CHANGE…
President Obama went to a Separatist Church for 20 year
President Obama took over GM and Chrysler
President Obama is closing 3 or 4 thousand privately owned dealerships
President Obama is for Cap and Trade (more taxes)
President Obama is taking over health care
When the government controls everything will there be any liberals ?
Open your eyes and ears listen to the cries echoing around the world.
Cries to enter the United States and have a chance of a good life.
Liberals stop complaing and look around…

The battle cry has been sounded…. “Forces are taking away your god given rights and destroying your personal independence and freedoms.” Thousands of our ancestors, Black, White, Mexican, orientials and others have fought and died for this great country since the “Midnight Ride” of April 1775

The incident was unfortunate but let’s get this right. I am sorry that Professor Gates got out of line, I am sorry someone dialed 911 in error doing a “good deed”, I am sorry because Gates was out of line that the Police had to enforce the law. As a result of this incident, the road was paved for President Obama to show his true side and make a grave error in judgement. In any private business, President Obama would be rebuked and likely being the head of the organization be dismissed, fired, put on leave, etc. Instead, he called a meeting after the fact and who bought the beer. Officer Crowley, you got this one wrong. Please get it right….the TAXPAYERS! Not President Obama, he needs to learn whose money he is spending to accomplish his agenda. The people will be quiet but eventually will rise up and be counted for…..stop spending our money unwisely President Obama, Senators, House members, and all others. This is not about political party anymore and not about race.

Ylem   July 31st, 2009 - 8:06 am

Obama rushes everything, like his rush to judgement in this case. He wants to rush thru healthcare before we, THE PEOPLE, have the time to know what is in this bill. Our own liberal representatives haven’t even read it and don’t care to read it. Why? Because they don’t want debate because they don’t want the People of this country knowing what they’re doing. Why?

Look at the state this country is in. They caused it. They caused the mortgage loan fiasco, in fact some, like Dodd, were getting special loans from Countrywide as pay back for making it happen. What was happening on Wall Street is their fault. Wasn’t it Tim Geitner who was was the head of the NY Federal Reserve Bank? He wasn’t looking out for us, in fact, he allowed it to happen so he could ‘bail out’ his friends at Goldman Sachs but then didn’t bailout Lehman. Favoritism? You betcha. Just like Madoff, everyone thinks Geitner is a genius and no one questions anything he does.

No one seems to be looking out for us, the People. Obama and some of his liberal friends are transferring huge amounts of wealth and that’s all this healthcare bill is about, just like cap and trade and their ‘green’ agenda.

Don’t be fooled and don’t believe a word these crooks say. Pelosi now wants to blame the state-run media for rushing this healthcare bill. I guess she couldn’t blame Bush…

Anyone not already coming in with a biased agenda (yes, I mean EVERYONE commenting here who would never praise Obama no matter what he did) can see that it was a case of BOTH men – Gates & Crowley – overreacting. I can also assure you that expedient dismissal by the State’s Attorney of the charge against Gates, especially when the arrest was made by an experienced command officer, is highly suspicious.

He/she (State’s Attorney) put Sgt. Crowley, the police department, and the city, in civil jeopardy. Realizing the situation was high profile, the SA should have suggested that Gates plead “Nolo Contendre” and pay a fine, or go to trial.

Vo Reason   July 31st, 2009 - 8:13 am

Maybe Sgt. Crowley should have started the meeting with, “Hey Professor Gates, what do you what do you get when you cross a black, hispanic, red neck from Alabama, Harvard Professor, Angeleno, Jew, Catholic, Protestant, Muslim, Atheist, Polack and cop from Boston?”

Answer: It used to be an American – - now its a whole bunch of political agendas.

The problem is that Obama and Gates think we’re better off with the latter

White people are always fingered as the racist in the ‘race talk.’ They always apologize to black people too. Jesus! Why don’t they talk about how blacks are racist and always using the race card? Or Hispanic racism towards whites? Why does the press never mention black on hispanic racism or black on white racism or hispanic on black racism or hispanic on white racism or asian on white racism or asian on black racism? WHY?!

1. Being in your OWN home does not provide you an immunity to being arrested for committing an offense.
2. The Cambridge Police Department did not dismiss the charge, the State’s Attorney did…after having discussed the arrest with Gates’ attorney.
3. The charge(s) for which Gates was arrested is unversal regardless of how titled. Disordley Conduct aka Breach of Peace.
4. Gates should have also been charged with “Resisting Arrest.”

If Gates is not paying rent, it is highly possible that Gates’ rent-free situation is considered income by the IRS. If so, and Gates has not declared the rent-free home as income on his taxes, the IRS will care less of Gates’ elite status and that Gates mught accuse the IRS of racial profiling.

Based on my 69 years of surviving global warming and 33 years as a police officer, I can assure you that a full moon does bring out the loonies, and what goes around, does come around.

Not all criminals are totally stupid or haphazard in their criminal endeavors. There are criminals who get up and go to work just as a law abiding citizen does, and perform their occupations in a planned and competent manner as any law-abiding person does. Some criminals are so motivated, they will travel any distance to take advantage of a target of opportunity.

I can assure you that somewhere there are outlaws that are aware of the Gates incident. They (outlaws) know that now the local law enforcement agencies will be gun-shy about patrolling near Gates’ Harvard residence, and they know that because of the hell the neighbor that reported the possible burglary in progress has suffered, the neighbors will turn a blind eye to any suspicious activity around Gates’ Harvard residence.

This situation now provides a target of opportunity that any criminal worth his criminal salt cannot pass up. If I were Gates I would no longer feel safe in that house. If the house is burglarized and Gates is in the house at the time, he could be gravely injured or killed.

I have great respect for Sgt. Crowley, but I really wish he hadn’t allowed himself to be manipulated in this way.
That said, the reason BO accused the police of acting “stupidly” is because he lost his temper. He’s not as smart as the state media would have us believe, but he has enough sense to know that he should have kept his mouth shut until he had all the facts. But his hatred of whites is so extreme, that he simply could not help himself. I hope this entire incident opened some eyes. Note to all white folks: If you personally, have never bought, sold, or used slaves, you have NO reason to feel guilty about slavery. None. Afro-centrists like BO & Gates are using the guilt you feel to manipulate you into oblivion. Wake up!

DaStupid…

Red Herrings? apparently you don’t get the news, just the propaganda.

Harvard Law degree, sure, he would never have gotten into an ivy league if not for his race, you know that. Harvard discriminates more than just about any university. I know white people in DeVry who probably scored higher on placement tests than the Obamassiah. But that is irrelavent. Fact is, Bush went to Yale. But then, you will claim that was Daddy.

Bush increased the deficit with two wars, one of which most people were against. But his worst spending was that stupid bailout for the financials. Well, that was all the financials needed, but Obama immediately got 750billion in liberal spending to double the deficit. Like millions to save a mouse (i said rat sarcastically), in the Bay Area in CA. This crap does not stimulate the economy. Anyone with half a brain knows it’s closed loops spending. Take out of the pocket of produces who spenders and give it to non-producers (gov) to spend. Real smart government.

All economists did not say a great depression was coming, that’s just a lie. Few real economists thought the stimulus would work. It’s your main stream media BS again.

Healthcare? You’re getting your news from Michael Moore. We have great healthcare, most of the spending Obama wants to do is to insure illegals, and that’s a FACT. Read the statistics and the bill. The wealthy and elderly from those wonderful socialist systems come to the US for needed treatments, and depend on US drug makers for innovation. All that’s gone with Obamacare.

Cap and trade would make oil prices go up, and plastics and electricity, he’s in favor. Read the bill instead of watching MSNBC.

Not talking about the fairness doctrine, though his discussion around minority ownership in major markets will do the same thing. And the Dan Rather suggesting the gov “Save the news media?” is another reference to current events an MSMer wouldn’t understand. Sorry. Do the research before responding next time.

Once again Sgt. Crowley presents himself as a calm gentleman. I’m still looking for the Professor Gates media interview. I’m sure we would find him a gentleman too now that he’s done foaming at the mouth.

The country has learned of another racial problem in the US and it begins with people who fly off the handle because of their self righteous continuous rage. It’s scary to think this angry man is teaching in a well established school. Is rage being taught in our public schools? What kind of example is Professor Gates to our young men and women? Maybe we should study how our leaders promote the rage. We may find our young men are killing each other because of the “always victimized and angry” teachings from their role models. God help us.

Apparently just about EVERYONE on this thread, Republicans, Obama, Gates and Crowley are missing key points:

Obama – You are an idiot, and should not have commented because a) you’re the President of the US and this was a local occurrence between a private citizen and the police b) Anytime you preface a statement with anything related to “I do not have all of the facts”, the next thing out your mouth should be “so I will reserve judgement, and not comment at this time”

Gates – You are an idiot, the police office came there to follow up on a report of someone breaking into your home, simply show your ID, say thank you, and you’re done. As a member of the African American ELITE, you have NO IDEA of the problems that blacks deal with, when confronted by police, and you missed a TRUE moment of opportunity by resorting to general comments of racism. The probelm with blacks and police has NOTHING to do with race, Black cops ARE JUST AS RACIST as White cops when dealing with BLACKS!

Republicans – You disappoint me because a) I happen to be black and republican, and see this as an opportunity to address issues with public property and first amendement rights, instead you showed black that may have been on the democrat/republican fence that maybe you guys ARE a bunch of black hating racists. You have shown intellectual dishonesty here. b) I can not say enough about how YOU as WHITE republicans MISSED an opportunity to reach out to blacks, and show them that “YES, THE FIRST AMENDEMENT APPLYS TO YOU TOO, AND WE’RE GOING TO DEFEND YOU RIGHTS!”

Crowley – You have shown that THERE WERE issues with the arrest, and you sir, are at best a liar, and at worst, the racist that you were accused of being. a) You SHOULD NOT have arrested Gates, even though he is certainly an idiot once it was proved he was in his own home b) YOU VIOLATED HIS FIRST AMENDEMENT RIGHTS!!! He was in his own home and you arrested him!!! No matter how its spun, whether he was in his house or on his porch, it is HIS HOME!!! c) There are OBVIOUS problems with your arrest report, as it is inconsistent with the information given in the 911 recording. SHE NEVER MENTIONED RACE and YOU HAVE CAUSED THIS WOMAN TO LOOK LIKE SOMETHING SHE MAY NOT BE!! d) because of all of this, YOU DID BEHAVE STUPIDLY!!

Everyone on this thread – If you are on this thread and are republican and are mentioning anything other than THE VIOLATION OF Gates’ FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS, YOU ARE INTELLECTUALLY DISHONEST! If you are black and simply saying WHITE COPS are the ISSUE, you are wrong, BLACK AND LATINO cops are JUST AS BAD IF NOT WORSE.

Now everyone lets be real, there are definite problems with Blacks and police and its not simply that blacks commit crime at a greater rate, blacks are simply TRIED and CONVICTED at a greater rate. Police have been trained to behave a certain way toward blacks, whether it is police culture or training, it is definitely there. A MAN’S HOME IS HIS CASTLE, BLACKS OWN HOMES TOO, AND I FOR ONE PAY A HELL OF A LOT FOR MINE, SO WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO SECURITY IN OUR OWN HOME.

Bayonne   July 31st, 2009 - 9:44 am

Reading through the comments it’s interesting that most of the liberal opinions are from two individuals — truthertz and DaStupidVoteGOP — I see that a lot in discussion forums — it makes me wonder if the democrats are still paying “astroturfers” to promote the liberal agenda in these forums. The ironic part is that they always complain about a Drudge link when there are a lot of conservative comments, but don’t liberal sites also link to these articles? The fact is that the large majority of Americans identify themselves as conservatives.

My comments on the beer summit — Gates is just a guy with a chip on his shoulder — he was offended that Officer Crowley didn’t recognize someone as important as himself — Obama displayed more ineptness and racism than anyone involved — his actions throughout this debacle including the summit have put police officers of all colors at greater risk — if he truly was post-racial as he claims to be he would apologize. Crowley is a truly classy guy and a wonderful representative of law enforcement.

This guy is incredibly poised considering that he is being attacked by the highest levels of the US government. Obama and Gates so desperately want to make him out to be some kind of neanderthal. In fact, he is cool, smart, eloquent and, most importantly, believable.

Obama is an absolute idiot for keeping this story alive and putting this this man and his family through this. He looks as vindictive as Gates. He should tell Gates to shut up and drop the whole thing ASAP.

Obama does not seem to have a grasp of priority. The economy is sinking on his watch, we are digging ourselves deeper into losing wars in the middle east, he is under constant fire defending his citizenship and his eligibility to even hold the office and he can find the time to help harass a kind policeman, his family and the Cambridge Police Dept. with a swaggering, loud mouthed punk like Gates. Unbelievable

I certainly am not. The problem IS on both sides, however, I do not recall blacks enslaving whites in recent history so racist comments made by blacks against whites are similar to a poor man insulting a rich man; the rich man would be less affected. And before anyone harps about “slavery being in the past”, last time I checked, so was the holocaust, yet somehow Jews are given a pass. Nothing against Jews, just against the mindset that allows one culture to remember its pasts while complaining about another culture remembering, especially when the past that blacks have in American is FAR more relevant that what GERMANS did to Jews.

Imagine if you didnt know any facts, and you read a headline like,
“Prominent Harvard Professor and US President slander innocent blue collar worker”
Then in the story you read that the 2 call for a private meeting with the victim.

Lets not forget the Professor went on national TV to incite more hate based on a LIE!

WHAT A GIANT STEP FORWARD WE HAVE TAKEN AS A COUNTRY.

Everyone here sounds so angry. I’m still laughing! Yes it’s true. President Obama jumped the gun with his comment. For this, he should apologize!

But still – I wish we could have had such a great response to Racial Profiling when it was against blacks and latinos. Now that some racially profiled a white person, everyone is up in arms. Being mistreated based on your color isn’t so much fun, is it?

That’s good for business as I see it. In order to fight racism, one must first experience it! So hey white people. Now it’s your problem too! What are WE going to do about it?

Racism and prejudged bias will not go away until we all learn to understand each other. People are like songs. Every genre of music has good and bad songs. The best thing for you to do is to reserve your judgement until you, not only listen, but understand the music that you’re listening to. Ya follow me?

When I read through the comments left in response to this article, I read many disparaging comments about our first black president. This is racism in it’s purist sense. What other president has taken on so many issues head on? Maybe he’s not always right, but he truly has the interest of the American People in mind. Unlike, George W. who ignored the UN and sent the men and women of our country to war over weapons of mass destruction that never materialized.

We really need Michael Jackson now!

IF YOU WANT TO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE, TAKE A LOOK AT YOURSELF AND MAKE A CHANGE.

Otherwise, you’re just a hamster on a wheel waiting to die.

Peace! Fight Racism – Against Whites, Blacks and Everyone else.

Hey Truthhurtz,

Obama didn’t call anybody stupid. He said,”the police acted stupidly”. He was referring to the one handling officer in the case who was white. As Obama said, he didn’t know all the facts, but commented on the part he heard about. The white officer arresting a black man. Obama has brought our Country to a whole new level of low, by dividing it with race. The President acted stupidly on more than one occasion and, oops!, let his true color(s) show. He should apologize to every police agency in the nation for calling them racist. The Truth Hurtz even more when you pay attention, doesn’t it?

Lee   July 31st, 2009 - 10:52 am

@Racism4U

You were doing good until you mentioned 2 things; “he truly has the interest of the American People in mind” and “George W”. First, this is NO evidence that Obama has the American people’s best interest at heart, to the contrary, his “health care reform” is THE biggest take over of our freedom in HISTORY! Everything he does is RIGHT out of the socialism playbook. Second, George W. is NOT in office! Why is it every time Obama starts to show his inexperience people want to bring of George W!? He is out of office! Obama has spent more in 6 MONTHS that George W spent in 8 years!!! And to no effect other than an INCREASE in unemployment! In addition, he is dangerous because when he makes mistakes, rather that CORRECTING HIMSELF AND CHANGING DIRECTIONS, he continues down a path of failure until in effects us all! He was elected under false pretenses of experience and transparency, and we have seen NONE of this. He will not even openly debate with out seeing questions before hand. I would LOVE to debate him or ANY issue, WITHOUT his teleprompter!

Wow!

Yes – Obama made a mistake. Do you guys really believe that racial profiling doesn’t exist? Let’s call these posts what they are. Hate letters about President Obama because you didn’t like him to begin with.

One white person was wrongly accused of something! How many black people have been wrongly accused in the last decade? Hundreds. So the President Obama took your own gun and turned it on you. Now you’re mad! It’s not right, I agree.

But we can’t just pass the gun back and forth based on who is in power. We need to push for greater understanding. We’re supposed to be a melting pot. People – start melting!!!

E. Pluribus Unim! Out of Many, One.

These sort of things are just going to happen until the American people do something about it.

I’m sorry you had to experience racism. Now, like I said before, what are WE gonna do about it?

Anthony   July 31st, 2009 - 11:03 am

I also believe that Officer Crowley was treated unfairly in this situation. He presents himself as a well poised and level headed person. it’s not fair that he and his family have been affected negatively when he was just doing his job by properly investigating a potential break in.

Gates has used his bully pulpit to defame this officer. If anything is teachable it should be that Gates needs to realize the same thing that regular folks do across this nation: if an Officer of the law calmly approaches you during the course of the investigation you also calmly present your identification etc. and work through the situation.

Gates acted like a child in this situation and should apologize for hurting this man and his family. Gates is the one who has shown himself to be racist in this situation and Obama needs to look at himself as well.

Bayonne   July 31st, 2009 - 11:04 am

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

The equality of men rests essentially on their dignity as persons and the rights that flow from it:

Every form of social or cultural discrimination in fundamental personal rights on the grounds of sex, race, color, social conditions, language, or religion must be curbed and eradicated as incompatible with God’s design.

….. YES! RACISM IS A SIN. Every human being is made in the image and likeness of God. We are called to love and respect each person.

I know alot of times we say (type) things we don’t mean. And BTW, Obama is not a racist, and is NOT black, he is the son of a white girl and an AFRICAN, a white girl to YOUNG to have confered citizenship on him by the way. His goals are another ISM, Socialism. He believes that everyone should have the same. Problem is, when everyone has the same everyone is limited to WHAT they can have. I spent YEARS teaching myself technology, have worked as a CTO and at Microsoft, and now reap the benefits of my hard work. If another black man was too busy trying to be “cool” and hang on the corner, why should I have to have less because he does?!?! Obama can GTFO2H with that!

And I’m sure that MANY on here are reacting first, and thinking last. If you think about it, this is not about black and white, this is about black and blue or even WHITE and blue. There is a problem with police authority, sometime (many times) they over step their bounds. This is a problem! Last time I checked THEY WORK FOR US! THEY need to learn to be more respectful of ALL people. Unless your caught in the commission of the crime, there is a myth of innocence until proven guilty. They should AT LEAST try to make us believe there is some TRUTH to that myth.

People just because someone puts on a police uniform that doesn’t make them above reproach, and obviously something stinks here from the Cambridge Police. The 911 caller DID NOT mention race, but the police report indicated that she did! Why is that? Does anyone even CARE that there is a GLARING inconsistency there?

Dublds   July 31st, 2009 - 11:28 am

As was the case after 9/11, a police officer looks much more professional, genuine, and composed than our president or vice president when their a$$es are on the hot seat. Once again a police officer steps up, and does what he has to do even while being called every name in the book by people clearly not possessed of his level of class or integrity. This is why these 3 leeches who have spent their lives feeding from the public teat, even with the help of wealth and a bevy of assistants and advisors, can’t collectively muster up enough class to not totally look like the douches in the presence of a person of Crowley’s character. I’m sure the Great Obama thought that Crowley would be awed by his presence and bow and repent. But what has actually happened is that, by virtue of ACTUALLY LIVING UP TO WHAT HE IS SUPPOSED TO BE, Crowley has made Obama, Biden and Gates look like complete buffoons. Yet despite how obvious it is that Crowley has the high ground on this one, none of these sacks of dung could even offer an apology for making what were clearly false and hurtful accusations. Big mistake by Obama taking this meeting. Showing his true colors, who he looks up to, what THEY believe, and his narcissistic incapability to own up to a shameful mistake, is the worst PR move Obama has tried yet. I promise this will be the last “beermeeting” in the Rose Garden…

Crowley is a very classy man who, no matter how much pressure is put on him to do so by the media and the race baiters, will not say a bad word about Gates. Gates and the race baiters are trying to make him lash out so they can be justified in their own hatred and resentment. It’s terrible how Crowley was ganged up on. Our president and Gates still owe him a public apology. I pray for this man.

Albert:

Thank you for the comments based in reason. I am of the generation that totally bought into Martin Luther King’s totally logical and reasonable exhortation that we just a man “by the content of his character, not the color of his skin”. Quite, frankly I am disappointed these days in African Americans in general. When 97% of our African American citizens support President Obama and his policies, reason tells me that the majority of this unprecedented support is most likely based on something fairly obvious: his race.

Did African Americans listen to Dr. King’s words, and do they apply them equally to individuals of all races?

Alabama guy   July 31st, 2009 - 11:46 am

I do agree this incident went too far, however the only way to correct the mistake would have been to admit to the mistake. This would represent true leadership and charter however, in this case, the burden is all three with Obama and Gates bearing majority of the responsibility, and Crowley for no doing better keeping Gates from going there. Crowley was just doing his job however with Black leaders and scholars trying to use the race card just reflect their own ignorance to reverse race sensitivity. This is not the right message for our country as a whole to allow disrespect to our police despite who you are and to use the race card just shows how far even our black leaders will go to protect themselves.

Hey, we are all-human and will get excited at times… We all should be man enough to admit our mistakes. This would make us a better person, gain more respect from the public no matter what our race we are.

Hey, I am just an old white guy that has a lot of hope for Obama and think he needs to correct a wrong before it backfires on him and our nation.

notaclue   July 31st, 2009 - 11:48 am

Crowley is the guy I would I want to respond if my house was being broken into. The color of his skin, doesn’t enter the argument. A definite credit to those who wear the uniform. BO got caught being a racist, and tried putting out the political fire. Gates is a whiner who portrays blacks as victims, but has a degree and a mouthpiece in Obama. Biden was just there to even up things, so wouldn’t appear to be 2 against 1.If I was a black man, I would be ashamed that I shared the same skin color. Being an average “Joe”,I am proud to have friends of different race, who have our share of disagreements, but “race” would never even be an option to throw in each others face. BO and Gates should be ashamed of themselves for setting back race relations 50 years. Change…we can all live without.

You people say: “Why would officer Crowley have a beer with these ‘black racists’?” How stupid can you be? Here we have three men getting together to face their differences with respect, dignity, and restraint, and you people hate it!! You hate the fact that these guys are willing to look beyond their differences and put the past behind them. You want SO BADLY for this to be black vs. white… to the very end. Those of you who call Obama or Gates racists are no better than the Al Sharptons and Jessie Jacksons, and ‘race baiters’ you complain about!! Cops have a hard job, but they DON’T always make the right decision. This is one of those cases. Gates the college professor didn’t make the right decision. Obama the president didn’t make the right decision. Everyone acted poorly, and everyone got together to make amends. This IS a good thing. Those of you who would rather incite further discord are indeed what’s wrong with this country. These guys made up. It’s time to get over it. There is NO evidence of his IQ being any more than anyone elses, NOR are there ANY records of his academic successes or failures for that matter. Harvard is a VERY liberal institution that would CERTAINLY graduate a minority with honors even if they were NOT exceptional, just for the purposed of affirmative action. Not to mention to pacify the “anonymous” Saudi donor that facilitated Obama’s entry into Harvard in the first place!

I do not think Crowley is racist, but I think he let his temper get to him when Gates started talking to him. Cops ROUTINELY abuse their authority, and get away with it. The “teachable” moment here is that police need to be reigned in, and arrests need to be audited for abuse of authority. When cases of abuse are found the police need to be suspended without pay, and maybe next time they will think twice about it next time.

What’s the point of an apology? Apologies are among the most worthless things in the world. Obama should have kept his mouth shut in the first place. No apology is going to cover his foolishness. If I was the cop, I’d have refused to meet with him unless directly ordered to do so.

Shame on Gates for being a race baiter 40 years after the civil rights movement. Shame on the President for supporting it. They are spoiled children who scream ‘racism’ when they are acting like fools.
The civil rights movement got what it wanted. Now, calling someone a racist is the equivalent of using the ‘N’ word. Crowley did the right thing in arresting this guy. Both Bates and Obama should have apologized, but they did not. Beer summit -FAIL.

James Stubbs   July 31st, 2009 - 12:48 pm

Some people think that cops routinely abuse their authority. Some think that Crowley seems to be the problem here. Generally speaking, those folks don’t have a clue about what policemen face in the way of “outraged” citizenry – drunk, disorderly, abusive – every shift, every day. After awhile you just tend to enforce the law. If you’re disruptive, off you go. If you’re “above the law”, as Gates seems to think he is, tough rocks. The best case I know of involved a Florida State professor, many years ago, who thought cops were abusive and too peremptory. So he became a cop, in Jacksonville, FLA. After a couple of years on the street, he changed his tune in a major way, because he saw who the truly abusive are – and it isn’t cops.

David   July 31st, 2009 - 12:50 pm

To those of you fawning over how the officer comes across in this video.
He’s in front of a camera. Do I need to say more?

Palanie   July 31st, 2009 - 1:28 pm

Of course the two racists (OBO and the Prof) did not apologize because they meant everything they said. Obama is too arrogant to apoligize and hates the fact that he has had to address this issue further.

The only ones owed apologies are the white cop and the black cop. It is pathetic whenever a black person backs up the white’s version, they are called Uncle Toms or House Negros. They should be commended for telling the truth and having the morals to do so! Especially in this case when it was proven so well that the Prof and Obo were entirely out of line. He is the racist raised by Rev. Wright.

Amazing, the multitude of stories being stated about why Gates was arrested regardless and in complete contradiction of the known facts. Additionally, those that are ignoring the facts are also ignoring 2 very important facts; Sgt. Crowley was not the only officer present when Gates was arrested, and not all the officers that were present were white.

Lady liberty… What a powerful photo. Speaks tons. Gates may never openly acknowledge it, but I would wager that he too was aware that the only person who was cognizant of his disability and concerned about his safety was the very officer who had arrested him.

The racists should have apologized – they treated the policeman very poorly – Gates and Obama should get on their knees and thank God (not the muslim one) for men like Police Sgt. Crowley.

I LOVE how the world “racism” is thrown around so freely. I know how hard it is for white men, all that oppression against you guys. Oh, and white women who get to have their cake and eat it too; “Oh, I’m a poor minority, oh forget about my white husband who owns the company”. Charges of racism leveled against Obama, ok, he IS in a position of power and CAN affect lives, same is true of Gates, he is a tenured professor and they have an UNCOMFORTABLE level of power of people’s futures, but the typical black man, uh no.

Buckofama   July 31st, 2009 - 2:46 pm

If it was the BLACK guy in the position to sue and Bush was trying to moderate between them then there would have been a law suit. He should sue that black ba$tard and get some money out of it and give them some of their own medicine because they would sue you at the drop of a black hat. Sue that racist POS and show the USA what he really is and hit him where it hurts the most, the bank account.

Nickle Plate   July 31st, 2009 - 2:50 pm

I think everybody missed the boat on this one. Gates wasn’t arrested because of his complexion. He was arrested because he was OLD! In fact, his complexion probably saved him from getting tasered, as did the grandmother in Texas.
Seniors (from all walks of life) are the least respected and most oppressed segment of our society. They are considered unattractive and irrelevant. From a marketing standpoint alone, the world is youth focused.
Sure, Prof. Gates is a prominent and well-to-do personage (thus, the Media blitz) but, ultimately, IRRELEVANT!
Further case in point is that of the seniors that were removed from DiFi’s office by the L.A.P.D. I should say “lured” from the office so the door could be locked behind. How do you “lure” a senior? Maybe the cops told them they’d be eligible for free retirement condos in Ft. Myers if they left peaceably….

“Racism4u wrote: “The 911 caller DID NOT mention race, but the police report indicated that she did! Why is that? Does anyone even CARE that there is a GLARING inconsistency there?”

While I have your attention though… I’m not saying Gates was right. – I was always taught to respect the law no matter what.

But I do wonder how deep the rabbit hole goes.

I have questions that I hope you’ll answer. It’d be great to have a policeman’s point of view.

1) Are you really a former Police Sargent?
2) Can you categorically deny that a significant amount of Racial Profiling goes on?
3) If YOU were a black person, (even upper-class black people are somewhat apprehensive about racial profiling) and you felt that you were being treated unfairly because of your race, what would you do?

Lee   July 31st, 2009 - 4:08 pm

@Racism4U
It looks like FormerPoliceSGT credited you with my quote, but posed the question to me. I think his mind was just a little cloudy, thank God he is a Former Police SGT, hate for him to make that sort of “mistake” when filling out an arrest report.

And NO he CANNOT deny that Police routinely overstep their bounds, and that racial profiling goes on.

I guess I can be considered Black and Upper Middle Class since I live in an exclusive country club community, and YES I am apprehensive about police. Anytime a cop pulls you over and you’re black you wonder if this is my AMADU DIALLO MOMENT?

I guess Gates got off luck according to that line of thinking, I mean he was ONLY arrested, ONLY humiliated by the police, ONLY at risk of Police Abuse as is a risk ANYTIME you come in contact with the police.

To answer ur questions Racism4U, I was actually a robbery detective for a big city and your questions shows you know exactly what you are talking about. Racial Profiling goes on and will continue to go on, that you can be sure of. No matter how often a police chief denies the reality, profiling must occur because there must be a standard to work from. It is too bad there are some police officials who rest on profiling and resist looking at culture, religion, and personal freedom as priorities for “johnny citizen”. Black individuals are routinely treated unfairly in this nation, just as koreans, and puerto ricans, mexicans, cubans, chinese…..bla bla bla Old whitey still continues to run the show, and I for one who is white, disagrees with the system at large. We need a system that is diverse yet acceptant of the diversity to allow for progress and success. Those who want it just need to get together. There is good and bnd in all races because at the end of the day we are all humans made of the same crap that floats out in space. Greed, materialism, and lust drive the inherent needs of many humans, and until it is dealt with, we must find shelter. We are lost.

Anyone here watch amazing police videos?? Remember the episode were an old white guy was pulled over for speeding. He yelled at the cop called him all sorts of names. Then he ripped up the speeding ticket.

What did the officer do?

He wrote him another ticket then calmly told him if he did not pick up the previous shredded ticket he would cite him for littering. Did he arrest he guy for yelling at him??

NO!

This cop is more of a hero than Crowley. Oh yeah im threatened by a 78 year old black guy with a cane. Give me a break.

“The white police officer…was only doing his job”?? Nothing gates did was against any law. It’s a free country everyone has the right to yell at any cop and call him any name in the book while on their own property. Deal with it.

Yes I am angry and I’m a black woman. I didn’t vote for Obama and I’m angry that so many did. (Although John McCain wasn’t much of a choice.) He is an incompetent elitist and he apparently thinks that most Americans are stupid. He is more anti-American that Hugo Chavez and, if allowed, will destroy this country.

Henry Gates is a racist idiot. When a cop comes to you house to investigate a possible burgulary in progress you COOPERATE. It’s your house, stupid! Who else will come out to protect it? I am 65 years old and neither my husband (also black)nor I have ever been spoken to disrespectfully by a police officer. Of course, we’ve never been disrespectful to a police officer either. Generally, you get back the behavior you give.

My fervent prayer is that the 2010 mid-term elections will change the make up of congress dramatically and that as soon as possible we get Obama out of office. I’m only sad that he first president of african-american descent is doing such a terrible job that a well-qualified candidate of african-american descent – who might really have an opportunity to heal some of the racial divide in this country – will not likely have a chance.

Angry Black Woman   July 31st, 2009 - 6:03 pm

Oh, I forgot to add. Good for you Officer Crowley! Your did your job. You didn’t back down. And you didn’t let the POTUS and the Harvard Prof intimidate you. You wouldn’t consider running for President in 2012 would you?

FormerPoliceSgt   July 31st, 2009 - 6:11 pm

Don’t you just love all of the law enforcement knowledge and expertise that is being expressed by the anti-law enforcement laypersons? I find it absolutely amazing that many seem to know so much, when, in fact, they know very little.

I had to laugh at the conclusion about how the officer affecting the traffic did not arrest the driver for his conduct and the verbal abuse he laid upon the officer, and, therefore, provides indisputable proof that the arrest of gates by Sgt. Crowley was unwarranted.

Well, here is a surprise for you. The driver, regardless of his anger, obviously produced identification that allowed the officer to verify the driver was not wanted and that he was the registered owner of the vehicle, and….ready for this? The driver was arrested. The traffic citation the officer issued to him is technically considered an arrest without taking the person into physical custody. Additionally, when the officer stopped the driver for a violation, the fact that the officer restrained the driver’s freedom to drive on, was an arrest.

“Even though a traffic stop is not an arrest for all purposes, the Court of Criminal Appeals has characterized a traffic stop as an arrest in which the officer’s options are limited (take to magistrate or cite and release). Montgomery v. State, 170 S.W.2d 750 (1943).”

Gates was not driving a vehicle. :-)

Obama as a Racist
…President Obama was reacting on his basic instincts when calling the cop’s action ‘stupid’; i.e. whenever there is any encounter between a black man and a white officer, it is always and logically “racial profiling”. Therefore the white officer is at fault and must be a racist and acting stupidly.
…President Obama is exposed again on this one and there is no weaseling out of this. He wants the beer fest for the video/media coverage that will result; absolving him of his negative consequences.
…This incident had nothing to do with racial profiling, in spite of President Obama and minorities trying to capitalize on it and to make it so. I always marvel why Asians are NEVER included with the other minority groups. The Asians have greater language and cultural difference than any of the other so-called discriminated groups. Why do they not qualify for this special treatment?

To Lee July 31st, 2009 – 9:41 am:

Last I read from the First Amendment, it’s a right to *peaceable* assembly.

Strange how no media outlets will publish any other first-hand accounts of the event. Did the esteemed professor follow the peace officer out of the house and onto the porch to continue his yelling? Did the professor start to follow the peace officer outside the porch and towards the street?

It appears that the incident was loud and disruptive enough to cause several passers-by to stop on the sidewalk to gawk at what was happening.

Did the esteemed professor return to his porch before being allowed to wear the chrome- or nickle-plated bracelets?

Anyone who is not brave enough to wrestle with these questions really doesn’t deserve to be heard.

And the dissertation about the 545 people “running” this country is indeed brilliant.

Racism4U   August 1st, 2009 - 5:23 am

Ladies and Gentleman of the Jury:

I don’t want to talk about Obama. He’s guilty of acting stupidly!

…..but Dr Gates is a product of OUR America. That’s right. We made him. You ask yourselves – HOW DARE HE PLAY THE RACE CARD?

I’ll tell you.

Racial Profiling is alive and well in America. Accept it. It’s a fact. Just because it wasn’t the case this time, doesn’t mean that it hasn’t been the case for Dr. Gates many times before. Especially considering that he came of age in the 60s. Martin Luther King Jr. was killed in 1968. See what I’m getting at?

Racial Profiling, from MY PERSONAL PERSPECTIVE can be defined as the harassment of a person by a police officer because that person is a minority. How many times can one be discriminated against directly or indirectly before he/she learns apprehension?

Let’s compare him to the kid who gets beat up on the playground everyday. One day he’s going to either stop going outside for recess or he’s going to stand up to the bullies. According to known fact, Crowley was not THAT bully.

So what happened? Kinda seems like Gates is guilty of his own brand of profiling, huh? Even still, WE CANNOT BLAME GATES FOR BEING UPSET. WE MADE HIM.

We’ve worked him into a state of what I’m going to call “Profiling Anxiety”

“Profiling Anxiety” is Racial Profiling in itself. It says that white policemen are dangerous and that black officers are forced to play along. Obviously, as with all stereotypes, we can’t assume that all law enforcement people are this way, but how do we distinguish and what do we do about it?

Hmmm – Suddenly, it doesn’t seem like such a bad idea for Gates and Crowley to get together, does it? They might save us all from a mounting race confrontation. And where are we? Pointing fingers at each other through a computer screen. Follow their lead. Talk to people of different cultures. Walk a mile in their shoes. Not all black people are criminals, not all white people are racist, I know an Asian who failed math twice and a man from India named Victor who thinks he’s more American than you. He’s probably right.

Because the truth is, there are no blacks here. No whites, no Asians or Irish or Jews. There are only Americans. In order to be a good American, we need to practice acceptance. We’re supposed to be a melting pot. So start melting!

If you wanna make the world a better place….

(For the Benefit of Rotney Mofo King)

If you want to leave me comments in hopes of discussing my views with me, I’ll be happy to respond to your comments. I hope you’ll make a point next time. Even if you’re right, I’m not sure what this number says about all Black Americans. It could be the same 10 people doing it for all that we know. I know that’s extreme, but you get my point.

Many years ago, in the parking lot at our local mall/movie theater, a good friend of mine was the victim of armed robbery. My friend was white and so was the other guy. This turned out to be one in a series of armed robberies. Does that mean I should hate ALL white people? That’s an awful lot of hating to do and I like to do other things sometimes like read books! :)

What if I said that all white people (assuming you are white) are childish because you called me “asswipe”. Where would that get me?

If we’re ever going to have peace (I become more convinced that it’s not possible every time I come to this page) then we need to open up dialog between races.

As for you, Rotney Mofo King, You have to make a choice. Either you’re going to accept the people around you or your not. There are good and bad people in every race. If you’re not going to accept the people around you because of sweeping generalizations then you’re a racist. That’s what being prejudice is. Pre-judging. Obama did it and you all got mad. Make peace or breed hate. It’s up to you.

Cheers! :)

Sweeping generalizations? Black folk commit violent crime at a rate that is insanely disproportionate to their percentage of the population. If you fail to acknowledge that, and ignore the Department of Justice numbers below, you are ignorant beyond even the tripe you post here. I am not being racist, you a$$wipe, by using empirical evidence to point out the truth. You are an ignorant buffoon, when you say all races commit crimes.

Statistics from the DOJ. You’ll find that 52% of homicides are committed by blacks, 46% of robberies are committed by blacks. Of the nearly 770,000 violent interracial crimes committed every year involving blacks and whites, blacks commit 85 percent and whites commit 15 percent. Blacks commit more violent crime against whites than against blacks. Forty-five percent of their victims are white, 43 percent are black, and 10 percent are Hispanic. When whites commit violent crime, only three percent of their victims are black.

I WANT TO START BY SAYING. YOU’RE STILL MISSING THE POINT. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MY POST FROM THIS MORNING!

- Furthermore, you’ve proven your tendency to take statistics out of context.

But hey – Thanks for the link. II very much enjoyed your presentation of the information. This chart is 4 1/2 years old, but I’ll humor you anyway.

Here’s my question. Can I use this chart for justification of bias? Should I be able to accuse any white person that I want of trying to kill me on the job? According to your chart, whites are responsible for 70% of the murders in the workplace. 70%!!!! That’s the highest number on the page!!! I would think that a number as high as 70% might justify racial profiling.

But, as I said before, Just because 70% of homicides on the work place are committed by whites doesn’t mean that 70% of all white people are going to kill me on the workplace!!! I can’t go around saying, “I can’t work with him. He’s white. He might try to kill me”.

Oh – Statistics from the DOJ. You’ll find that 46% of homicides are committed by whites. I understand the ratios, but that’s still almost half. As far as robbery goes, I’d like to see a chart for white collar crime. Do you have one of those?

There are no saints. Your own chat says so. Sorry….

On a positive note, homicide in general seems to be on the decline. I’d be interested in seeing a current statistic.

You need more hope for the future. If you expect me to debate with you in an adult fashion, please refrain from calling me any more names.

Thanks,
Racism4u

P.S> Oh.. Your credibility remains in question. I’m still waiting for a link stating your NYC statistic. Did you make that up? Because I like NYC!! Send it here, please.

FormerPoliceSgt – I’ll play…

1) Officer Crowley lost his “color of law” authority the moment Gates demonstrated that he was lawfully in his own house. If he had any respect for the law, and the temperament that he was trained to have, he would have simply said, “Sorry for the inconvenience”, and walked out. NO MATTER WHAT GATES’ PROBLEM WAS!

2) Crowley was asked for his ID and lawfully had to produce it. Instead he found a pretext to entice Gates out into the “public”, experienced clever cop that he is. The only way he could lawfully make a charge of disorderly conduct, was to get him in public. I’m sure he considered assaulting him in his house, but that
3) The DA and maybe a judge (who cares about the detail) , two checks in our system, determined that the charges were unwarranted, at or before arraignment. Law genius that you are, you know that at arraignment, it was required that a facially lawful charge had to be demonstrated. Guess what, the DA wasn’t buying it, the charge was dropped in a hurry.

4) Who cares what Crowley’s Union brothers opinions are. Who cares what Gates attitude was. In this country, the police must have probable cause. Obviously, Crowley did not.

5) Crowley is lucky he didn’t get sued. Go ahead and look up the law of the 1st circuit concerning the 4th ammendment. Oh never mind, you play a cop on the web.

Good cops are the best that this country has to offer. Bad cops, like Crowley, who lack the self control only required to be average, are among the worst of this country.

The US Army has more self control and discipline in war zones, with live rounds coming their way, than too many police who abuse the trust to serve and protect.

Now get back to lecturing us all about liberty, capitalism, free enterprise, the 2nd amendment, tea-bagging, birther theories, and how the Sarah Palin/Bobby Jindal ticket is going to save america. These are subjects that I’m sure you know more about.
