‘Cookie’ Anyone?: White House May Track Visitors to Its Web Site

Washington Post: The Obama administration is proposing to scale back a long-standing ban on tracking how people use government Internet sites with "cookies" and other technologies, raising alarms among privacy groups. A two-week public comment period ended Monday on a proposal by the White House Office of Management and Budget to end a ban on federal Internet sites using such technologies and replace it with other privacy safeguards. The current prohibition, in place since 2000, can be waived if an agency head cites a "compelling need."

I hope someone has made a FOIA request for those e-mails going to the white house. The ranting of libtards about their neighbors to their lord and savior would probably make for one funny azz book.

Occams Razor   August 12th, 2009 - 9:55 am

At what point will the public (of which a majority still approves of Obama as a president) begin to fully associate him with these dreadful policies (considering that a majority disapprove of his stances on the economy, healthcare, and government spending)? If that happens, conservatives will have a good shot in 2012.

So where are all the libs who railed against the patriot act? This is far more intrusive.

Calm down you tinfoilers.

Almost every website in the world will put cookies on your PC to track you.

Why shouldn’t White House track you? It’s their website, they pay for it. If you don’t like then don’t go there and don’t get informed on the truth behind nationalized healthcare.

Keep your mind closed and mouth flapping at the townhall meetings and you’ll never learn anything.

doogle   August 12th, 2009 - 10:45 am

So, when a terrorist visits the Cash For Clunkers website to see what kind of rebate they get if they trade in their gas guzzling 1987 Dromedary Camel, the goobermint slips a cookie into their computer so they can keep up with him?

Wow, I feel sooooo safe & protected now.

to Anexio   August 12th, 2009 - 10:50 am

Aleftio – some answers for you…

“Why shouldn’t White House track you?”
—–Because it’s against the law.

“It’s their website, they pay for it.”
—–It’s not their website, it’s OURs. And, we pay for it.

“…don’t go there and don’t get informed on the truth”
—–There’s little or NO truth there anyway.

“Keep your mind closed and mouth flapping”
—–Thanks for upholding my right to free speech.

Anexio (Mr. Ass-Talker), do you know what the White House website is trying to do is
completely “FASCISTIC”? You don’t know that, because your nothing nut a goddamn serf
to the government or you probably work for the government Anexio (I could smell a rat
thousands of miles away from Anexio, and your not fooling me for one bit). Anexio, since
Obama wants his braindead supporters (like you dumbass) to report anyone who’s being
critical on his Cuba-like healthcare plan to report them to the WH’s website, and make
no mistake about it Mr. Ass-Talker-Anexio, what Obama is trying to is ILLEGAL, it violates
the 1st Amendment, and this could lead to Chairman Obama being IMPEACHED for attempting
to trample on all of our (including yours Anexio) 1st Amendemnt rights.

BTW Anexio, I assume you NEVER read the novel written by Sinclair Lewis, “It Can’t Happen
Here”, in that novel Lewis writes the fear if a Right Wing Populist dictatorship would
emerge in the US government, in that novel Berzelius “Buzz” Windrip is a US Senator (just
like Obama) who runs for the presidency on a populist-ticket, he wins the election, about
months later President Windrip begins to outlaw all the freedoms in this country, takes
over specific industries (just like what Obama is doing and what Bush did before he left
office), and very people stops him for what’s doing. Now all of a sudden, we have a
Left Wing Democrat dictatorship by the name of Barack Hussien Obama, he took over the
banks by nationalizing them (remember, Bush did the very samething to, that’s why Bush
was a fiscal-socialist), took over the automobile industries, and now wants to take
over our healthcare system, which BTW is the best healthcare system across the world,
despite it’s flaws, errors, etc. Anexio, apparently you DO NOT see what’s going on
around you, and that’s why the folks at the town-hall meetings are expressing their
rights to freedom of speech and have had it up to here with these liars, grifters,
cheaters, empty-suits, empty-skirts, etc.

Liberalism is a Mental Disorder!!!!

Simple solution in your browser:

Accept Cookies: Never.

Consrvativ_KDH   August 12th, 2009 - 11:23 am

Anexio ~

Shouldn’t your name be Anorexio? Because you are so skeletally thin on sense…

Or perhaps it should be Anoxio…because you certainly speak as though no oxygen is getting to your brain.

You read to many novels. As for the rest blah blah blah.

Maybe you too should start writing poetry. Lots of talent here on Breitbart!

Again Anexio shows his hate…He is an example of the Germans who closed their eyes to Nazi programs as long as it didn’t effect them.He is just as brainwashed as all the SHEEPLE who go to rallies in support of Obama as he creates programs that will hurt them too..It’s as though they are celebrating the man who will ,in the end, hurt…or even support committees who will deny them health care when they are too old to be “Cost Effective” to the Govt to help them.

This “Cookie” thing this IS NAZISM…IS SOVIET Tactics. ..IS against the LAW…IS against the Constitution. And they are LYING about keeping records and names and e-mails…They must by LAW do this…And Obama laughing about it is an example of his Lies and arrogance…DON’T believe ANYTHING Obama says…or any of his supporters..or anything anyone on MSNBC,CNN,ABC,CBS,NBC, the N.Y.Times etc….say in support of Obama’s Socialist programs and death Committees…

Be strong…Stand Up…Fight Back…be a Patriot…God is with us…not Obama and all his atheist friends in GOVT..in ACORN/SEIU and the media.

Other   August 12th, 2009 - 12:39 pm

I have no problem with them enabling cookie propagation, provided they modify the law properly. It’s not like they cant track your presence on their sites anyway, if they want to.

Cookies are so trivial.

poetopoet   August 12th, 2009 - 1:04 pm

Hi, everyone out there, there was show called Howdy Doody, a puppet show, and his pal was Bob Smith, his string puller and recently, know as Bill (Bob Ayers) has come back to life, in a rerun, to haunt us on TV. Obama admits to knowing him, at the tender years of 8 eight years old, but failed to acknowledge his direct and in your face allegiance to him, by the way of Chicago politics; who Mayor Dailey would indorse. My hat pin was reserved for, not Dan Rather, an opportunity I still regret, as seen in a recast, replay, whatever.

I ask of you out there, are you the dummy that believes Obama, was ever innocent?

Whats the fuss about   August 12th, 2009 - 1:32 pm

Why all the fuss? Just delete the darned cookie. If you don’t know how or don’t do it anyway you need to get some training or quit surfing the internet. Use Mozilla Firefox, they make it very easy to do. Even IE makes it easier now but Firefox is much faster.
Google is far more intrusive and gather far more info if you don’t delete the cookie. Use Ixquick.

Thanks to Anexio   August 12th, 2009 - 1:40 pm

Commenter should visit the link provided by Anexio. You will understand what the New Black Panthers are all about. The 10 demands are right out of the communist playbook used by Bill Ayers and Frank Marshall Davis and prof Gates, the commie pals of the big ZerO. The panthers are a commie group.

kmichaels   August 12th, 2009 - 1:41 pm

So now we know what Obama meant by more transparency. Obama wants to track complaints against his plans. Obama wants your medical records accessible to anyone. Remember the liberal biitching about Bush tracking Terrorists calling into America? But somehow this is ok for Obama to track US citizens, what they do, etc, etc. Wow. Some transparency eh?

kmichaels   August 12th, 2009 - 2:09 pm

For those saying just delete the cookie. It would be too late by then. The info from the cookie is already recorded at the White House. You deleting it on your end is pointless. Yes, you can prevent cookies from being placed on your browser, but then that means that the White House prevents you from sending info to them or voicing your complaint. There was a good reason that cookies were not collected by past presidents. However the current president wants to know exactly what the opposition is up to. He even asks his supporters to spy on their neighbors and send emails reporting what they are up to in regards to dissing his great and wonderful plans.

kmichaels   August 12th, 2009 - 2:12 pm

Remember the dems complaining that Bush had the nerve to record foreign calls into the USA by the NSA? Funny, no dems complaining now about Obama spying on his own citizens. Funny how that works. I guess privacy is no longer a valid issue to these idiot democrats. Of course even the previous complaints against Bush were feigned. It was all about trying to make him look bad while he had the nerve to record phone calls from known foreign terrorists. What is the reason Obama is recording US citizen information again? Not to protect America but to protect himself. Dems are such obvious hypocrites.

Eileen for Freedom/Liberty   August 12th, 2009 - 2:14 pm

America…may?

You know these sleaze balls are!

Be careful, America, “change” has taken place in our White House…a criminal “change”…not the one that average Americans expected when Bilderberg Bush-Obama spewed his lies during the campaign.

He brought “change” alright…and Americans are just waking up to this reality of what kind of “change”!

Do not visit their sites…that is what they want you to do! Always do the opposite of what “they” want…that will be the right thing to do!

======================

THE REVOLUTION OF THE SILENT MAJORITY – SILENT NO MORE!

2. GETTING INVOLVED

Hey, Anexio , since you trust Pres Obama and his admin so much– why don’t you volunteer to test the H1N1 ( swine flu) vaccine. I think that Congress and the administration should be the first to test it out– to make sure it is safe for the rest of us. Viel Glueck!

To IDIOT ANEXIO   August 12th, 2009 - 2:56 pm

Anexio spewed: “Why shouldn’t White House track you? It’s their website, they pay for it.”

Idiot. THERE ARE LAWS AGAINST THE FED GOVERNMENT SPYING ON INDIVIDUAL AMERICAN CITIZENS AND STORING INFORMATION ON THEM; THIS HAS BEEN TRUE EVER SINCE WATERGATE!

kmichaels   August 12th, 2009 - 2:58 pm

A simple solution for free care. Take all the Obama supporters and have them donate any extra money they have to pay for the insurance on these poor and needy people. There are millions of supporters so we should have billions and billions in donations. Right?

EXCELLENT SUGGESTION FOR ANEXIO   August 12th, 2009 - 10:23 pm

Someone wrote, “why don’t you volunteer to test the H1N1 ( swine flu) vaccine. I think that Congress and the administration should be the first to test it out– to make sure it is safe for the rest of us. Viel Glueck!”

GOOD THINKING!

P.S. We sure as he11 are *not* going to follow any orders from “ON HIGH” that we should get a ‘HINI’ FLU SHOT! The way things are going, WITH ALL THE LYING & CHEATING & DESIRE TO “CUT COSTS AND MAXIMIZE ‘COMPLETE LIVES’,” those shots could be CONTAMINATED WITH SOME DEADLY VIRUS THAT WILL OBVIATE THE NEED FOR HEALTH CARE REFORM!!!

Larse   August 12th, 2009 - 11:18 pm

For all you nuts that are afraid of the government putting a cookie on you computer, just solve all of our problems and just turn you computer off :D

But don’t worry, they track you through your cell phone anyway. Your’s is probably “on” right now!! Soon we will have those little RFID chips implanted in us too!

BTW – That webcam on your laptop… Are you sure the government is not watching you right now :D And that microphone, you don’t think Microsoft really lets you ever turn it “off” do you :D

Why is you computer always transmitting and receiving data when you are not using it?

You had better get a sledge hammer and destroy the thing right now!

Harry deleting cookies from the browser does not work they will be recreated from the hidden files that are on your computer. Yes, I think the powers to be want you to believe in browser cookies and give you an easy way to delete them. It’s just great to defuse the real situation, give the computer users an easy way to delete cookies and then they think they have beat us at our own game.

But here is the reality of it all – When you surf the interent -web sites not only place the easily delete cookie on your machine but also a hidden cookie in a file folder that is generally marked as a hidden folder. With this approach these so-called cookies exist FOREVER on your machine. Delete that cookie sounds easy, but don’t worry there is another one in a another folder just waiting for you to do that. If you don’t believe me try the software Qusum at http://www.qusum.com and see what is on your machine, its free. I wrote the app because I got tired of cleaning up my folders once a week talk about a bunch of #$%#@# on my machines. Some of these cookies even had my passwords and user name stored in a non-encrypted file that I could plainly see with notepad.
