The GOP has been crushed by multitudes of sexual scandals. They’ve lost 2 straight elections with what could arguably be called mandates. They lost 2 or 3 of their top presidential candidates for 2012. They’ve lost their their conservative “vision” as evidenced by the 11 trillion deficit run up under Bush (google “bush 11.5 trillion). They are out of power and have been hijacked by the extreme far right where Limbaugh has made himself a force and made it virtually impossible to win general elections — which are won in the center. Their base is shrinking (google “gop shrinking”) and is evidenced by their leadership’s decision to elect Michael Steele to try to appeal to minorities. They have no leadership at any level — even the Young Republicans found themselves embroiled in a nasty racial tryst two weeks ago. Michael Steele continues to make major political gaffes and has yet to show any fundraising prowess or that he can expand the GOP — which, incidentally, should be his primary objective. They are desperately trying to find any weakness or misstep by Obama, Pelosi, Reid or the Mainstream Media (MSM) to fire up their base and to gain traction somewhere against Obam, such as the copgate and now health care reform.
The Party is unfortunately done. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: The GOP is shrinking. It IS the party of the Old South. It has not evolved in personnel or ideas. It’s idea of trying to reach out to minorities is to hire Michael Steele as RNC chair. Mr. Steele didn’t even with the Black in either of his contests in Maryland, one with Bob Ehrlich, the other, against Ben Cardin. He couldn’t even win PG County, the richest black county in the country! He’s inept. Additionally, the GOP position on Immigration will turn the off against Latinos. That is why Lindsey Graham is making is public knowledge that he is going to vote for Sotomayor. The only problem is: the damage is done. Latinos feel she worked over too bad and some lines of questioning by the senators were perceived by a lot of minorities as more than provocative!
The GOP has NOT infused new talent that can keep their pants on (Sanford, Pickering, Craig, Stanley, Ensign, etc), keep their mouth shut, (Limbaugh, Jindal on volcanoes), keep from backloading a $5.27 billion budget state deficit, WITH SPENDING CUTS INSTEAD OF RAISING TAXES, then bailing out and announcing he won’t run for re-election, which is particularly despicable! (Pawlenty); keep from flip flopping (Romney), keep one female companion at a time, (Gingrich & Guiliani) or safely make it through a Katie Couric interview (Palin). It has not captured the imagination of the new voters, and is saddled with the unfortunate confederate south. Because of it’s unsavory past with minorities, the possibility in our lifetime of it becoming diverse it out of the question. It has not evolved and will continue to self-implode. Incidentally, Pawlenty presided over the I-35W bridge that collapsed and killed 60 people. He cut government infrastructure spending that led to work NOT being done on the bridge. Scarier still, he is still doing government cuts…and the other bridges have not yet been addressed!!!!! The state of Minnesota does NOT have term limits. Mr. Pawlenty got out while the getting was good. His poll numbers in Minnesota?? Lower than Bush’s: 32%.
Even Tom Davis of Virginia, John McCain (yesterday), Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and John Zogby said the Party is in deep trouble.
This is why the GOP wants to defeat Obama so badly and FOX news is helping conservatives dive right off the cliff with GOP by their inability to tell the truth.
