CNN’s Cooper Apologizes for Not Challenging Sherrod’s Race-Baiting, Delves Into Husband’s Newest Controversy

Anderson Cooper apologizes for not challenging Shirley Sherrod last week when she labeled Andrew Breitbart a "racist" who wants to "go back to the days of slavery" on his show.

The CNN host then explored the latest controversy involving her husband, Charles Sherrod, and racial remarks he made at the University of Virginia, as well as questions regarding their involvement in a lawsuit against the Federal Government.

I guess that this leftist journalist is trying to get average Americans to watch him. Too late… You did not challenge her, because, you liked what she had to say. You did not miss the racist comment about Mr. Breitbart. And when did facts matter to you.

Now, that this story is going the Obama administration in some trouble. You come out and apologize.

Did someone call you from the White House Mr Cooper? Did you get offer to be 'the press czar?'

knobby05   July 30th, 2010 - 8:37 pm

what a liar the Sherrods group got 13-17 million and the Sherrods were the head and founders of that co-op, plus 150k each for pain and suffering. Why do all liberal reporters lie about everything

Spanky2   July 30th, 2010 - 8:37 pm

I don't see why any liberal should be expected to support their position based on fact.

It's all about feewings.

Suvrec   July 30th, 2010 - 8:38 pm

And the tide continues to turn first tingles now Anderson …

teapartyforever   July 30th, 2010 - 1:39 pm

feeling the heat from the ratings? you should be. it won't be long before the lame stream media (CNN) can't get an advertiser from a kool-aid stand (even though cooper drinks it all the time).

RRR   July 30th, 2010 - 1:41 pm

Why do I get the feeling that Breitbart and his lawyers have something to do with the statements of Cooper and "Tingle-Up-The-Leg" Matthews.

DiggyOrange   July 30th, 2010 - 8:41 pm

Mr.Sherrod says:

White man and Uncle Toms, hmmmm

You know what they say …. you can put lipstick on a pig , and its still a pig.

kmichaels   July 30th, 2010 - 1:43 pm

I have to say that both reporters did a pretty good job for the most part, except how they quickly minimized the race baiting that Sherrod and her husband are prone to do. Race baiting is racist too. Let's not forget that. When you assume that all whites are this or that, the same as saying all blacks are this and that, especially on negative subjects, then you are indeed a racist. And both Sherrod and her husband are known and frequent racists. Now, CNN is saying that the proof that Sherrod's husband is not racist is that he has been involved in fighting for black civil rights? God, that was a stupid connection. Of course many people fighting for black civil rights could easily be racist. Now, if a person has a history of fighting for rights of all people then that is different. But when the Sherrods have a history of fighting for and looking at everything via being black, then you have a racist in your midst. Especially if those two morons continue to bash whites in order to build up blacks. Which again they have a long history of doing.

And finally, thanks to Cooper for his fine apology. It seemed real.

kmichaels   July 30th, 2010 - 8:48 pm

The group got 13 million. Not sure if any of that went to the Sherrods beyond their 300k total that they got. I could easily be wrong but you would have to show some facts on how much if any of the money they got beyond the 300k.

nelan72   July 30th, 2010 - 8:49 pm

This might be the only way CNN could tell, fabricate, insult, molest, or slap the real American people. CNN you should look into a new media….Like coloring books with only two color crayons black and white.

Democrat_Decimation   July 30th, 2010 - 8:49 pm

Well, we can assume Shirley Sherrod is lying and her husband is DEFINITELY a racist. I'm sure Steve King will be called a racist outright for even questioning a Black Democrat. I truly don't like Sherrod's husband calling farms "plantations", when they aren't and saying only vote for someone who is Black. You can call yourself a Civil Rights activist, but MLK Jr. would be rolling in his grave if he heard what you said. So I don't call these people "Civil Rights activists", I call them COMMUNISTS.

DontTreadOnMe   July 30th, 2010 - 8:50 pm

You don't wish cancer on anybody. Just don't.

501republic   July 30th, 2010 - 8:51 pm

and at the end Breitbart comes out on top. of course they will not apologize to him because liberals dont think their standards should apply to themselves

kmichaels   July 30th, 2010 - 8:51 pm

First off the reason the Sherrods failed to get the loan is that they had no evidence of being able to repay it. They had mismanaged an unusually large farm into bankruptcy. Loans were based on ability to repay. There is no evidence of the size of the loans they requested or the size of the loans that the whites were receiving. The Sherrod farm was unusually large.

Vic_Vega   July 30th, 2010 - 8:51 pm

And I'll just stand there and laugh! Oops, meant that for journolist…

Davecat84   July 30th, 2010 - 8:51 pm

Yeah, Cooper. An apology will make everything better. /sarc

Another mouthpiece for the Journolist.

Davecat84   July 30th, 2010 - 8:53 pm

I'll bet Soros keeps them aloat.

knobby05   July 30th, 2010 - 8:53 pm

the 300k was for pain and suffering other families got 65k or less for that.

More to the point, out of about $1 billion paid out so far in settlements, the largest amount has gone to the Sherrods' New Communities Incorporated, which received some $13 million. As Time Magazine approvingly reported this week, $330,000 was "awarded to Shirley and Charles Sherrod for mental suffering alone."

Unwittingly, Charles Sherrod shed light on the how and why of the settlement in a speech he gave in January 2010. As he explained, New Communities farmed its 6,000 acres successfully for seventeen years before running into five straight years of drought. Then, according to Sherrod, New Communities engaged in a three-year fight with the USDA to get the appropriate loans to deal with drought.

Said Sherrod, "They were saying that since we're a corporation, we're not an individual, we're not a farmer." Nevertheless, the Sherrods prevailed, but the late payments "caused us to lose this land." In other words, the bureaucratic delay over taxpayer-funded corporate welfare payments cost them their business.

Then, thanks to their "good lawyers," said a gleeful Sherrod, who seems to have fully recovered from his mental suffering, the Sherrods successfully sued the government for "a large sum of money — a large sum of money." While saying this, he made hand gestures suggesting $15 million. The land itself was admittedly worth no more than $9 million.

Sherrod gave this talk to announce that the FCC had awarded New Communities a radio station in Albany, Georgia, still another race-based corporate welfare boondoggle. Before the award of this station, he added, the Sherrods "had no means of communicating with our people."

The "our people" in question, of course, are black people. With this new voice, the Sherrods will help "stop the white man and his Uncle Toms from stealing our elections. We must not be afraid to vote black."

Yes, indeed — these are just the people we want spending the money we don't have.

essequamviderinc   July 30th, 2010 - 8:53 pm

I WANTED to believe that Anderson Cooper might have had an honest moment. HA! What an idiot.

It was't a "farming cooperative" – New Communities was a Georgia corporation. And the settlement was over $13 million.

CNN is so CORRUPT. How could they possibly miss the $13 mil? Notice how they never – NEVER – gave the name of the "cooperative". CNN's Alinsky tactic – throw out a crumb or two to divert their detractors – keep them away from the big truth – about the $13 mil.

Andrew Breitbart is a HERO. There is no way Shirley Sherrod will sue Brietbart – the discovery process would destroy her.

PJ3usa   July 30th, 2010 - 8:55 pm

hehe first tingles LOL

AmericanParch   July 30th, 2010 - 8:56 pm

Wow, everyone is turning on Sherrod after hearing all sides. Does this mean Obama will after he hears both sides…NOPE. Just like the Cambridge Police, he still acted as if it were all the officer's fault. http://www.americanparchment.com posted many video of other anchors that are now apologizing to Breitbart or at least defending them. Even MSNBC's Chris Matthews is defending Breitbart, telling the rest of the story.

AMAZING HOW THE LEFT JUMPS ON STORIES JUST AS FAST AS THE RIGHT… OH YEAH THE LEFT JUMPED ON SHERROD'S STORY FASTER THAN EVEN FOX DID. THEN AGAIN THE CITIZEN JOURNALISTS WERE ALL OVER IT FROM THE VERY BEGINNING. BE A CITIZEN JOURNALIST AND GET THE TRUTH OUT. (As long as you are one that will report just the truth)… BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU READ.

Jamesb   July 30th, 2010 - 8:56 pm

Here is "Teagbag me NOW!" Anderson Cooper boy69 "faking right" but "going left", just watch.

He'll doubleback like Matthews did yesterday. Throw the TRUTH a bone and get back to backing the race baiters and race profiteers aka, the Sherrods. Watch.

kmichaels   July 30th, 2010 - 8:56 pm

I don't know about that. I wished that Sherrod would spontaneously combust right while
Obama was giving her a hard embrace, and on public television. It seems appropriate.
But then, that's just me.

nocer   July 30th, 2010 - 8:57 pm

It appeared to be fair, but was more damage control. If this story blows, they want to be able to say they covered it. Notice how Anderson brought up the Pigford case, but didn't mention it by name. They don't want anyone looking it up for themselves. Anderson also didn't mention the horrific amounts paid out in that settlement or Obama asking congress for more money to cover the claims. He also didn't mention the fact that there have been over 80,000 claims filed under this settlement for black farmers (and it continues to grow) while there are less than 20,000 black farmers in the US. He never said this is reparations under a different name. Classic non-coverage coverage. I liked your post though.

SmokeEmOut   July 30th, 2010 - 8:59 pm

Anderson, just do the reporting and let the chips fall where they may. You know where to look for info now – the conservative blogs as you said (admission #2). I challenge you and your people to find out more and get exclusive material rather than just skimming Breitbart's sites. Do something for your pay at CNN. It's a critical time in American history so don't get played again. Challenge everyone and challenge yourself to do an unbiased job. It's easy to have one side of an issue like you, but can you get both sides to trust your info and respect you? Does that matter to you?

PJ3usa   July 30th, 2010 - 9:00 pm

Something fishy here…. $330,000 for mental suffering.. well hell I have had a LOT of mental suffering from Obama in office ruining the nation. wheres my money?

Bill_Lumbergh   July 30th, 2010 - 2:01 pm

Cooper, who is likely a practicing 'Tea-Bagger,' (I have no problem saying that, because he was among the first to use the term in a derogatory fashion toward the Tea Partiers) is obviously not only desperate for ratings, but he's probably amongst the 'journalists' who see the writing on the wall for the Obama Administration, and will be amongst the first to jump on the Hillary '12 bandwagon.

knobby05   July 30th, 2010 - 9:04 pm

An announcement of Ms. Sherrod's July 2009 appointment to her USDA position at ruraldevelopment.org gives off quite a few clues:
RDLN Graduate and Board Vice Chair Shirley Sherrod was appointed Georgia Director for Rural Development by Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack on July 25. Only days earlier, she learned that New Communities, a group she founded with her husband and other families (see below) has won a thirteen million dollar settlement in the minority farmers law suit Pigford vs Vilsack.
What?
The news that follows at the link, which appears to pre-date the announcement of Ms. Sherrod's appointment, provides further details:
Minority Farm Settlement
Justice Achieved – Congratulations to Shirley and Charles Sherrod!
We have wonderful news regarding the case of New Communities, Inc., the land trust that Shirley and Charles Sherrod established, with other black farm families in the 1960's. At the time, with holdings of almost 6,000 acres, this was the largest tract of black-owned land in the country.
… Over the years, USDA refused to provide loans for farming or irrigation and would not allow New Communities to restructure its loans. Gradually, the group had to fight just to hold on to the land and finally had to wind down operations.
… The cash (settlement) award acknowledges racial discrimination on the part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the years 1981-85. … New Communities is due to receive approximately $13 million ($8,247,560 for loss of land and $4,241,602 for loss of income; plus $150,000 each to Shirley and Charles for pain and suffering). There may also be an unspecified amount in forgiveness of debt. This is the largest award so far in the minority farmers law suit (Pigford vs Vilsack).

What a douche. Forget Sherrod already. Where's the objectivity and evidence against the T-party? Where is their apology? Where is the challenge to the accusations against them — oh yeah, you were the ones fabricating them!

CNN is nothing but a bunch of homophobic baby-eating racists

White people and uncle toms! Sounds like sherrod is applying for a guest spot on the jeesssee and al tour bus. Black/white president, black congressmen and women, black ceo's, black sports superstars, millionaire black actors, black governors, black mayors, black sheriffs, black police chiefs, black Generals, black Admirals, black miliary e-9s, e-8s, e-7s, black newscasters, black weathermen, black airline captains, etc. Sherrod, tell me again about how whitey and the uncle toms have their foot on you throat. Just another racist socialist obama bootlicker. Nice suit you are wearing!!!!

mandinkawarrior   July 30th, 2010 - 9:20 pm

We don't know who look at this web site.Maybe she had seen this web site before this happen.

I came upon this website by mistake, trying to click on the Boston Herald.
Needless to say I was shocked. Most of the news threads were negative news threads about Blacks.
In the comments, blacks were called apes ,monkeys and worse.During that time they had a different system where your comments could be put in awaiting moderation.
None of those comments were ever moderated but people who did not like the overt racism and said so were.
It would be easy not to wonder if the person running this web site was not racist
Things have gotten better over here since the Sharrod incident.

As far as Charles Sharrod is concern,he comes out the civil rights group SNCC.It's fonder Stokely Carmichael, popularized the term "Black Power"
He might be still holding on to some hostilities from the past. But it was just a few days ago that someone on this web site basically said that Blacks were sub human and the comments were not removed.
Also a common practice for BB to put up mostly negative news threads about Black People.
Before you accuse someone of racism, people need to address their own.
IMHO,everybody black,white or whatever.

Mskaty   July 30th, 2010 - 9:21 pm

Mr. Sherrod is simply exposing the 'tribalism' so prevalent in the progressive movement. It's no big surprise except that now it's out there in the open.

Bimmcorp   July 30th, 2010 - 9:33 pm

How can Shirley Sherrod live all these years with a racist husband with a racist agenda and claim to have overcome her own racism??? I ain't buyin' what your sellin', Shirley…………

Common_Man   July 30th, 2010 - 9:34 pm

I agree. Too late. These mouthpieces for the left, and we know who they are, are never to be trusted again. Cooper may be expressing some regret now but I would bet heavily he has not learned a lesson from it and would behave exactly the same in the future if he knew it were safe for him to do so.

BillyDKidd   July 30th, 2010 - 9:36 pm

Poor CNN. Gasping for air are we? The looks on the faces of these reporters/commentators is classic!

kmichaels   July 30th, 2010 - 9:36 pm

You are most likely correct about damage control however the others stations don't seem to be giving Breitbart any
near the same sort of even remotely friendly coverage. No idea what Coopers motivations may be. It was interesting
that they at least showed the negative coverage of Sherrod's husband. As to the number of claims, i have heard different
numbers. The stories always say that there were more claims than black farmers. And with pigford II there will be even
more claims.

Common_Man   July 30th, 2010 - 9:37 pm

Joe Johns makes it a point to connect Charles Sherrod to the great Martin Luther King Jr. I don't remember Dr. King using the kind of divisive language Sherrod uses.

We have Huffington Post posers that call blacks all sorts of names.
Let me guess, you were stupid enough to think that they came from
conservatives? You were snookered honey.

And with the tendency of black socialists to claim that they saw this
and that bad comments, I am thinking maybe you are just lying again.
i say that easily because I have personally caught you in many lies.

And finally, you yourself are an anti-white racist so you have no
authority on this subject one way or the other.

Common_Man   July 30th, 2010 - 9:41 pm

I predict that Ms. Sherrod is going to regret bringing suit against Breitbart. Breitbart is in the business of exposing the skeletons in people's closets and it is clear that Ms. Sherrod has many. Should be fun for me though.

Subsalior   July 30th, 2010 - 9:42 pm

Common_Man   July 30th, 2010 - 9:43 pm

At least Anderson the professional tea-bagger got the tape on the air. Note how all the CNN reporters are black. I guess that is why they can get these hard hitting interviews with racist blacks.

Jamesb   July 30th, 2010 - 9:56 pm

Of all the worn out liberal tacks the "I'm liberal, I'm smart" is the one with the LEAST credibility.

It's ridiculous, particularly in light of the FACT a liberal president – Obama – is reduced to a blithering idiot without a teleprompter and refuses to release any actual evidence that he is indeed "smart". Smart? So far – not so much.

Add in the fact that various liberal policies are BLOWING UP in the liberal/Democrats faces and empirical evidence proves socialism doesn't work – and that makes your "we're schmart" argument that much weaker.

Shiori   July 30th, 2010 - 10:03 pm

PaBowHunter   July 30th, 2010 - 10:08 pm

It is quite obvious that both Sherrod's are very racist. She should never be hired by any government agency. Her hiring should be investigated by congressional hearings. Their awards via the lawsuit should be investigated by congress and the FBI.

Shiori   July 30th, 2010 - 3:21 pm

Yes, 100 is a three digit number. Good!

If you can hold your own in a debate with, Thomas Sowell, Andrew McCarthy, Mark Levin, Mark Steyn, Ann Coulter, Phyllis Schlaffly, Dennis Prager, Michael Savage, Robert Spencer, Walid Shoebat, Wafa Sultan, Bill Whittle, Andrew Klavan, Larry Elder, Jonah Goldberg, Walter Williams, etc., etc., etc., or even form a cogent counter argument to anything written by Edmund Burke, Ayn Rand or Milton Friedman, i.e. anyone with an I.Q. well above 150…

Oh that's right, Liberals don't debate or form cogent counter arguments to those of Conservatives / Libertarians; They only do tu quoque and/or ad hominem. With such a limited capacity, it may be best to simply remain a Troll.

HuckleberryTom   July 30th, 2010 - 10:22 pm

Thank you Knobby for presenting factual information. Of course you must be a bigoted racist to do so when the "facts" don't fit the MSM narrative or agenda, but it a whole lot easier to right wrongs when facts are presented and considered.

Diddian   July 30th, 2010 - 3:28 pm

In what basis can Cooper be believed? Throughout the 1990’s, CNN withheld stories of atrocities committed against the Iraqi people by the Saddam regime. CNN news chief Eason Jordan issued a public letter of explanation, contained in the following link:

http://www.honestreporting.com/articles/critiques/CNNs_Iraqi_Cover-Up.asp

An excerpt:

” In a shocking New York Times opinion piece, CNN’s chief news executive Eason Jordan has admitted that for the past decade the network has systematically covered up stories of Iraqi atrocities. Reports of murder, torture, and planned assassinations were suppressed in order to maintain CNN’s Baghdad bureau.”

So, what will CNN do now? Do they serve the truth or do they serve whatever ensures continued access to our own ruling regime? I know my own opinion about this after watching their show with the panel on racism (aired after Sherrod was asked by the regime to resign and then was invited back post-release of the entire video). That was just about as accommodating to the regime as it could be. It was like taking Obama breakfast after he fumbled the 3 a.m. phone call.

fantum   July 30th, 2010 - 10:37 pm

RACIST!

Whitey is supposed to run and hide when confronted with anyone shouting RACIST!… IT NO LONGER WORKS!

Most whites got over racism many years ago and in the process gave special privileges to blacks. Now many blacks still expect those special privileges, including getting their own way, whenever they holler RACIST!

The NAACP, ACORN and the Black Panthers are no different than the KKK, just a different skin color. They are a bunch of fools who cannot make it on their own merit so they inject themselves into the fringes of real Americans hoping to gain status by THROWING A TANTRUM.

Brietbart should post another video with a white actor and have him do the exact same speech, and change the word black to white, and use the word abolutionist instead of uncle tom. The condemnation would be swift. I condemn this racist.

br8kawy   July 30th, 2010 - 11:00 pm

I do not think it is racism. I believe it is frustration of the years of droning on about do as I say not as I do and p.s. I want a special handout and privileges. President Obama himself even referred to his own as "Mongrels'. Granted I understood his meaning that we are all of mixed races in this country (I have too many too list) but he could have definitely chosen a wiser description than a Senator Byrd description like mongrels. After all it was the years of PC indoctrination that prevented using words like that without being branded a racist. By the way, ever heard what blacks call whites? Spend a little time in a county jail. It is very enlightening.

Ya, something is definitely going on. Something has got these little putz's, Cooper & Matthews on the retreat. Their networks have to be getting a bit of pressure from somewhere. This can't just be them volunteering.

Andrew loves a good fight & taking on bullies. Maybe he has got them right where he wants them.

As an English major and a student of, in my opinion, the greatest writer of all time, these are faked lines by Mandikawarrior. The Mandika people were of Indian origin trashed by Karna, very badly.

BHO_UMM_UMM_UMM   July 31st, 2010 - 1:29 am

Is Anderson Cooter trying to turn into a journalist or something?

handleit   July 31st, 2010 - 1:30 am

Cooper you need to work on cleaning up your own pooper. Put on a diaper to catch the bloody mess. Watch out for a terrible disease of the mouth. I know the truth can hurt but it's only because I want you to hurt or repent.

Suvrec   July 31st, 2010 - 1:32 am

Him, hey you see all them Uncle Toms??

She, Dear Husband we are past those days, we have a black president and a huge amount of colored people in the White House, please refrain from using that term or others like it.

mandinkawarrior   July 30th, 2010 - 6:54 pm

mandinkawarrior   July 31st, 2010 - 2:03 am

Yeah right you are an English major and I am the leader of Venus.

You are just another one of the ignorant ranters and BB sheeple that frequent this web site.

The Mandinka are one of the largest ethnic groups in West Africa.
You post like you might need to cut back on the drugs.

cecil91   July 31st, 2010 - 2:11 am

His public speeches include racist remarks and he has been at it for 40 years. Whitey does it and he gets villified for 40 years. That's America.

imsailing2   July 31st, 2010 - 2:22 am

You know, this lying thing is not working out very well for you Regressives. Everything you said about this site is a bold faced lie. That's exactly why Breitbart went to this comment system. So we could easily see when lying Regressive plants like you get on here and make racist comments to try to make us look bad. Now we can spot you by your negative score very quickly.

I challenge you to find one racist comment like that on any of the threads that does not have a negative vote count.
And no, comments disagreeing with policy or a belief system are not racist, no matter how much you Regressives wish they are.

Your lying ass wouldn't know "humble" if your life depended on it.

mandinkawarrior   July 31st, 2010 - 2:31 am

LOL,good to see someone else come on this web site and get their right wing shorts in a knot.

marselluswallac   July 31st, 2010 - 2:32 am

anderson should also apologize about lying about fox news playing the clip before she was fired

kj1971   July 31st, 2010 - 2:47 am

Trust me, being African american, i've seen the 'blacker than thou' card being played time and again. It's always a defensive mechanism for them not being able to leave the gub'ment plantation. Slavery was directly written into the Constitution. FEDERAL laws existed barring us from doing everything from co-habitating in DC (thanks to that progressive hero, W. Wilson who RE-segregated the city after than evil racist Repulican Teddy Roosevelt dares to do otherwise) to ownership of houses to interstate travel. And these left wing clowns think i'm supposed to trust THEM? But that's the biggest problem with these liberals. They honestly think rights are to doled out like Halloween candy and that us 'colored people' should stand there and be grateful some white folk don't hate us. We are all born free children of God and no politician should be able to take credit for things they don't have a thing to do with.

ronfromflorida   July 30th, 2010 - 8:25 pm

AC you suffer from rich white boy guilt syndrone, come join the rest of us and live and work around these people and that wll wipe the smirk off your face.
Ask your self how all these other races from around the world risk thier lives to come here with nothing and almost immediatly leap frog over our own domestic black population both socially and economicly?
Mz. Sherrod and her husband a pair of Black racist held down by thier own bitterness and hatred.
