The situation was so dire that Cooper was the only person out of hundreds standing around picking their butts who could help…all while the camera man never stopped filming to pitch in. If one more p.o.s. “celebrity” comes on tv to tell me how sad the situation is in Haiti and that I should give to their charity, and so forth, I am going to freak out. Holy crap, I clicked through to another video at CNN and this camera crew just happens to be going by when a rescue team needs a vehicle to take a victim to the hospital. They have a brand new truck, plastic still on the seats and they go hauling ass through the city. Lo and behold the city you see them drive through appears devoid of the utter devastation that they have been showing us.

Why, in videos that are supposed to be disturbing, and where blood is visible, can we never see just where the wound is? The victims are always whisked away. Also, why does the blood always look like orange-red paint? Isn’t blood that is exposed to air dark crimson?

After seeing so many staged videos by the Palestinians and Iraqi Insurgents over the last eight years, I view any “dramatic footage” with a cynical eye.

Sorry, but some of this just doesn’t add up. To RogerCfromSD, fresh arterial blood will be bright red, and even a relatively minor scalp wound will cause what appears to be an alarming amount of bleeding. The thing that disturbs me is that Cooper deposits the boy at a trash heap and then he’s left standing there stunned while the cameraman gets a good picture of him. He isn’t crying or in panic, but then Cooper begins this, “It’s OK,” business. The kid’s injury looks real to me, but Cooper’s behavior is so fake.

Sheesh…. Everyone stand back and let go of the bitterness for a second.

First, not a single person here knows any facts beyond what the camera caught. The story was about looting and concrete chunks being hurled about. After a deep breath ask yourself if it may be possible that Cooper watched what he considered to be an innocent kid get nailed by an errant throw and reacted in the moment… I fully realize that this is speculation but it is equally devoid of solid evidence as the accusations of a staged event.

Second, a man’s actions in situations like this are nearly impossible to predict. Cooper may be an inarticulate jackhole on a TV stage but a guy that reacts with actions when something happens in front of him. How many here have seen a car accident happen right in front of them and just driven right on by without checking to see if everybody is ok?

Look I happen to think that Cooper is an absolute twit when it comes to most of his broadcasts (except when he was the host of “The Mole”…. I miss that show). With that stated, I have worked with people that I do not respect as individuals but they have shown uncommon character in situations where other men find it acceptable to turn their gaze to avoid the scene.

Will CNN use this footage to boost their ratings? The sun rises in the East if I’m not mistaken. That doesn’t mean that Cooper staged the scene. It doesn’t mean that he didn’t either. What is clear is that the kid was hurt and the American in the crowd was the only one with the dangly bits to do something about it. I commend him for that.

JaySC, et el, if it was really a good and selfless deed, AC would never allow it to air. That little clip was not a live feed and had to go through all the editorial wickets before it was displayed to us sheep–including their goofy, grandstanding, spare the innocent children intro. But AC sent it along and CNN dutifully aired it. If that’s his notion of altruism then he’s getting all he deserves with the negative comments.

That’s how Anderson gets all his dates, but that kid is a little old for his taste.
