I love how they make it sound like talk radio is brand new. The liberals weren’t doing any better on the radio when Bush was in office. Well, if conservative radio was as powerful as they seem to suggest (no doubt it has some influence), I wonder if they can put forth reasoning why our president is Obama and why McCain was the Republican candidate.
If there were more liberal stations, more people would listen? Wow, how about the idea that many liberal stations fail in the free market? I’m in a major market and have seen several liberal talk stations come and go. The conservative station is still going strong with huge market share, and it didn’t go on air until long after we had a liberal station already in place and broadcasting. How might that lady suggest more liberal stations come about? Government take over? Government funding (already being done and not overly successful)? How about FCC take over and redistribution (in the works)?
No, let the free market work. People will pick what they want and it will become successful. If liberal stations don’t generate profits to stay on air (seemingly a contradiction), they have no one to blame but themselves for not marketing a product that people actually want.

I can tell you why liberal programs are not attracting as many people. My husband loves to listen/watch that stuff, so I have first hand knowledge. It is a victim parade. One after another. It makes me want to puke. I’ve never seen/heard about so many victims in my entire life. I don’t even consider most of them victims. They are more like weak, helpless complainers that couldn’t solve a problem for themselves if their life depended on it. The amount of learned helplessness out there is sickening. It is like torture to listen to. They would lose most of their viewers over time to suicide.

You don’t need a doctorate to know that the reason people listen to right radio is because they agree with what’s being said. I don’t care though I’m glad this country is free and that it was free. I don’t know if it will be in the future. Things could get really rough if we don’t stop spending, pay our debts, balance our budgets and become devoted to the founders. I always liked rush and as rude liberals can be, it is amazing how thin skinned they can also be. I don’t buy that they are more loving or empathetic either. If you think that taxing people heavily and then doling it back a little at a time through give aways is loving people then you don’t know how to love people. If you think passing a bunch of laws that will inevitably be violated and then harshly enforced is loving people you don’t know how to love people. Conservitaves know that loving people is securing freedom for people and limiting government and even better conservatives know how to respect people and their personal space and we don’t send government agents to get in people’s lives over matters of health care, education, personal safety, etc. Even in matters like homosexuality, we don’t go into people’s bedrooms and tell them what to do. They throw coming out parties and make public issues out of it when we were happy to be ignorant; then wonder why we don’t like it. I seem to recall better days when the reporters – sorry, now they are “journalists” – used to take offence at being “rolled” which was their term for being made use of for political purposes. Now they all seem to make a career out of it.
As for the left’s hatred of conservative talk shows; that simply reminds me of how the people in Jonestown must have hated the ones who would not drink the Kool Aid and had to be forced. Kind of like the story about a sighted man showing up in a country of blind people and then trying to get them to do something about bettering themselves. The blind people decided he was disturbed by the two orbs in his face which gave him visions so they cured him by putting out his eyes. That’s liberal thinking for you.
Come to think of it all liberals have been “rolled” as well. That is the only explanation for their point of view. They are either freeloaders and vote for the biggest welfare checks and other handouts or they have been duped into supporting Marxism Lite which is the only real description of liberalism. The truly committed Marxists view most liberals as “useful fools” and liberalism as a stepping stone on the inevitable path to socialism and then to communism.
Your typical liberal thinks that “social justice” is what the world needs. Think about that term, is there any other kind of justice? Could sole individual on a desert island be unjust? To whom? What they mean there is taking hard earned money from one person who either worked for it, or had parents who worked for it, and giving it to somebody “less fortunate”. Unfortunately “less fortunate” can cover a multitude of sins.
I grew up poor and now make about $200k per year as a consultant in the oilfields. I was not handed anything on a plate, I started at the bottom and sweat and got dirty but some people seem to think my earnings make me “fortunate”. It’s amazing how the harder I work the more fortunate I am. Anybody who wants the liberal version of “social justice” is just stealing from my family. Any other description of it is just gilding the lily.
If I see somebody in need I offer to help. I don’t often give handouts but I will help in any other way I can. I will decide where my charity goes, I don’t need the government to absorb 40% of the money they take and hand out the rest to people who think the deserve my money more than I do. That goes for liberals and, especially, small “r” republicans.
This so called journalism misses the obvious point by a mile. Leftist, liberal talk radio doesn’t work commercially. They can’t draw sponsors and collect an audience when they denigrate capitalism and refute the profit motive. In their view we’re all supposed to be so compassionate as to give up our earning, not just to those who can’t make their own way, but also to those who WON’T earn it themselves.
While on vacation this summer my wife and I made a point of listenting to liberal radio stations and talk shows during the 10-days we were away, the reason being was to see if they had merit and might offer-up a legitimate, opposing viewpoint. What we found generally was that the liberal talk shows and hosts were illogical and nonsensical in their arguments. Troublingly too, was the fact that most every host proved unable to debate an issue, take a listener’s call or provide comment without relying upon a healthy heaping of cursing, shouting, belittling and just downright nastiness. It was, to put it mildly, offensive and not at all compelling.
The mainstream media–increasingly, the fringe media–has over the years, become less and less reliable, more and more biased and therefore, increasingly less attractive to the majority of consumers. Poll after poll shows again and again that Americans are by and large, a right-of-center demographic, i.e. conservative-leaning. When I, for example, see and hear the likes of Pelosi, ObaMao, Reid, et al, and likewise, the media calling Tea Partiers, for example, anti-American, Astroturfers, right wing lunatics, etc., but in the same breath laud such phonies and hypocrites as Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Yassir Arafat and the like, it literally makes my skin crawl. It’s certainly not balanced or objective and worse, I believe it’s this lack of objectivity that is to blame for the increasing devisiveness we have been witnessing for some years.
Newspapers and left-leaning radio outlets are seeing and feeling the financial consequences, i.e. the bottom line, of the marketplace at work: They’ve been offering a service that quite literally fewer and fewer want and who instead, are turning toward a more attractive alternative, i.e. conservative talk radio, a better mouse trap as it were. If the left’s product is one no one wants the truly intelligent owner undertakes a workover to shape, craft and produce a better, more-appealing product–it’s basic Economics, Adam Smith and the Invisible Hand and it’s really quite simple.
Given that those on the Left fancy themselves such sophisiticated thinkers, academics, ad infinitum, one would think them capable of figuring out and actually applying such a simple precept. Unfortunately, it seems that even this is simply beyond their grasp.

They still don’t get it. When Rush Limbaugh came onto the scene 20 years ago, he was unique, a first. He was alone because no prominant conservative voices were heard on television or radio. Today he is one of many conservative radio hosts, albiet the most popular. Fox News is also wildly popular because they give air to conservative voices. If CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, etal would give airtime to conservative voices and points of view (not just the token Conservative but a conglomerate of voices reflected in their reporting) the name Rush Limbaugh might never have been heard. Fox might never have amounted to anything beyond an MSNBC. We listen because we identify with them and we hear our points of view no where else in the Media. If you want our attention, give our ideology a real voice.
I like talk radio and listen at work doing many tasks as an owner of a small high tech company. When long distance driving, the mental stimulation keeps me alert. Rush Limbaugh will tell you and I’ll verify that he is in agreement with the vast majority of his audience. This is the “secret” of his success. Conservative talk radio should be called classical liberal talk radio. The classic liberal believes in individualism, free enterprise, capitalism, government limited in scope, and listening to both sides of an argument before deciding what to do. “Modern” liberals believe in group identities, command economies, socialism, large government programs, and dismissing the other side of an argument as invalid. Therefore, listening to conservative radio talkers means hearing an intellectual feast while listening to liberal radio talkers means hearing assaults on the U. S. Constitution, excuses for bad individual behavior, sloganeering as in BUSH BAD, etc. In other words, liberals do not put forth their rationale for their positions so much as label their opposition Hitlerian. After a short while just a little of this drivel is all anyone wants to hear.
A ‘liberal & conservative’ interpretation is meaningful in that it defines two primary rationales of coexistence. Liberal, in the meaning of extending ones ‘liberty’ beyond any standard or status quo, and Conservative in the ability to manage ones own life and with the same ‘liberty’ without overwhelming or intrusive intervention from any group or government. The two are really the same but many times viewed from different perspectives and identified with different labels and in different context.
We as a people have lost this duality of balance, in allowing by proxy, others who do not hold the same goals in merit. Rather, they seek to utilize the conditional power of our Constitution by unconditional means.
I have also tried to just listen to the ‘liberal only ‘ stations for about two weeks and was dumbfounded by most but not all arguments, which seem to have a circular logic embedded. As an engineer it really grated on me a bit…. Some good points and bad of course along the way, however it was a bit like watching and listening to point and counter point arguments my mom and dad had years ago. (I won’t go into details ) but it was a classic theme of mom’s wishful hopefulness wanting it to be so, and dad’s objectiveness of how will this action effect my family now and later based on historical events.
Therein you have somewhat simplistic bifurcation of life strategies:
I want to Earn That. and conversely, I want to Have That.
